This drive fits neatly into the extra drive bay in most tower computers, adding three terabytes of extra space. It simply plugs in, powers up fine, and is automatically recognized by the system. I formatted it and copied all my files from Drive C to this new drive D. I use it as drive D as file storage only, keeping just the Windows operating system and applications on the original C drive. Doing it this way means if my computer crashes and the C drive needs to be reformatted, none of my files on Drive D are lost.

I keep a mirrored RAID array on one of my computers for all of my photographs. I installed two of these this past weekend. After 4 days, no problems. I'll update if anything happens. Much faster throughput than the two elderly, long-discontinued Maxtor Diamondmax 10-250gb I had been running and finally ran out of space on.

I use this drive in a Synology NAS, and it works great. Fast, quiet, and cool. A big upgrade from the old drive I pulled from an old desktop.

Phone-support by WD was aweful. Trying to tell me that these drives were made for business use and not for a PC...then they were trying to blame it on my new up to date motherboard..

i bought this to be a storage drive for my games my blue 500 i bought was getting filled to the brim with my projects i have an ssd boot drive. this drive did the trick its very fast and has normal temps hope it last a while.

I purchased 6 of these for my DS1512+ and it works like a charm. No DOA's and the speed is fine for what I use it for. I use my DS1512+ for file sharing and also for my ESXi lab.

Put five of these WD RED 3TB drives in a Drobo 5D attached to my 2011 27" iMac via Thunderbolt. The drives are super quiet and from what I can tell pretty fast even though they are "intellipower" (i.e variable speed) and not the 7200RPM that some of the more speedier drives spin at. Pretty happy with them as the drobo 5D is 4 feet away and I cant hear the drobo or the drives!

Using two of these in a home made VMWare ESXi 5.1 host coupled to an Adaptec 2805. So far no problems and speed is good. Having cache on the controller along with cache on the drive really helps writting speed.

I am using this HD as a data disk inside my desktop computer, not in a NAS box.Packaging was impressive, Prime shipment was on time. Full format took about 4 hours.No errors, no noise, no problems. I will buy more from Amazon.

Western Digital 3 TB WD SATA III Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive, Red WD30EFRX [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging]I could use 4TB disks but they are very expensive by now. When I bought them, in August, first I tried 5x 3TB HGST's but I didn't. I bought different models of 2TB HGST disks but I was not satisfied.Then became available WD RED for NAS, 3TB, and cheaper than the 2 TB HGST. I returned the HGST and bought WD RED 3 TB. It is for home use ( documents, photos, music...). I have a Diskstation 411+ with 4 WD Caviar Black, working very well since September 2010, and my family can share photos.The 1512+ is going to be the main NAS and the 411+ the backup. High now I'm transferring data from one to another.Every thing is working well.

bought this cause I'm getting close to filling up my main harddrive. instal was a breeze (though i have a good amount of experience with computers). installing it was kind of annoying but easy and had nothing to do with the hdd but rather the way its done in windows 7. works fine and havent had any problems with it.

This may be great for NAS devices, but seriously, why not as just a drive.So, all the bullet points for the Red line of WD drives make it sound like my kind of desk top drive, but sadly after spending several hours trying to get it working I went to MicroCenter, got another drive, 2T drive and it worked right away.Again, from my sample size of 1, if you have a iMac, and are looking for a WD drive, stay away from the Red line.

There is nothing wrong at all with these hard drives. I put two of them into a QNAP T-269L as mirrored drives. Until one of them fails, I won't know how good they really were. However, response time on my small office network is much better now than when I had a WD 4-drive NAS (a Sharespace, no longer in production), so I'm happy.

I wanted to HDD 's for my Synology DS213 and originally bought some WD Black drives, but upon installing them found they were too noisy to use in my setup. I exchanged them for the WD reds and couldn't be happier. They are close to silent and are fast enough for my needs (streaming and storage).

I got a pair of these for my Synology DiskStation. They're working perfectly and I have no complaints. They installed fine, paired up in RAID-1 just fine and have been working flawlessly since.

These drives have really impressed me. They run cool and are very quiet. They hit the sweet spot... cost to value ratio. 3 year warranty.Perfect in my Qnap Network Storage Server (TS-219PII-US).Like any disk that is going to be used for high availability data access and archiving, they should be thoroughly tested before being put into service. All hardware fails. Back up your data regularly.

It is a hard drive. It is as advertised. I plugged it into the NAS and formatted it. I was woe to discover, however, that it was in fact a 2TB drive and not a 3TB drive accidentally placed inside of a 2TB packaging.

Purchased this to install into a Kanguru eSATA enclosure and attach to a DVR. Works great. It's attached to FIOS box and now we have plenty of HD capacity. Never had any trouble recording two streams and watching a third - it hasn't hiccupped once.Shipping note: Arrived in excellent condition with decent packaging.

I bought the 3Tb model to use in my Synology NAS. The unit failed within two months. Fortunately I had a backup of my data so I was able to replace the drive without it being a major catastrophe, just a major pain in the butt. Its time for me to find a replacement for WD Red products.

This drive is dedicated to backups for Windows 7. It is quiet and works so far. Surprising how fast one can fill up a 2TB drive. I may switch my smaller drives to this one.

I purchased seve of these, six to put into a Netgear ReadyNAS 6-drive NAS box. Very easy setup and installation. All of the drives work well and finish their formatting faster than expected. I bought an extra drive in case of a failure, but not sure I'll need it. I like the warranty as well - 3 years.

I have 3 of these drives installed in a Synology DS409+ NAS. These drives are extremely quiet, and they seem to be running much cooler than all the other regular drives I have installed in the NAS and the expansion unit. They are perfect for a NAS, and do the job well.

I purchased 5 of these drives to put into a NAS. Of the 5, 4 worked correctly. I had to RMA one of the drives. 4 out of 5 is terrible!

Just like Bemused Thinker I bought this for my Synology 213 and after 2 weeks one of the drives started reporting SMART errors. Thank goodness for Amazon's great exchange policy. Beware the quality of these drives.

I purchased two of these after I knocked my external E-SATA Blac-X drive off the shelf and killed the drive in it. I simply dropped this into the Blac-X and ran my backup routine and haven't looked back. The drive has worked flawlessly and is very quiet.

Really not much more you can say. Received it in working condition, compatable with the ReadyNAS Pro Business. Popped it in and I'm good to go. Plan on buying more when I need the space.

Replaced failed desktop style drive in my Sinology DS209. Upgraded drive size while at it and these appear to be doing fine after a couple of weeks installed and running both file server and security station for 2 ip cameras and receiving remote FTP from 4 others.

Great HD for a NAS, I ordered 8 of these 3TB for my Synology DS1812+ unit. I've been using WD for years and have always had good luck with them, and these also come with a 3 year warranty and 24/7 tech support if necessary. I would highly recommend these drives.

I purchased these drives about a month ago and I have zero complaints. The technology that they're using is close to their RE3 series, though it costs much less and they run cooler in my NAS.I'm extremely happy with the purchase and will purchase more when my three year warranty runs out.

Drive has been installed a month or so and it is working fine. I have it in a NAS box that is running FreeNAS. It was recognized easily and replaced a failing drive in the array without issues. I have run a couple scans on the drive since then and there have been no errors or bad sectors.

Longtime, 25 years, user of WD HDD. They have always performed well. Replacement for a 500MB. Putting my music and video collection on HDD. All the jewel boxes, VHScassettes, audio cassettes and LP's can finally go into storage and I will actually be able to find what I WANT.
