I purchased this drive to use on vacations - I acan download sd cards from my Osmo Pocket and GoPro directly to the HD to clear them off. Then I use it with Lumafusion on my ipad pro. It makes a perfect combination allowing me to make 4K videos without a laptop. Feels like the future. So far it has been very reliable.

Nice idea but this thing just plain sucks. Have had to do resets daily. Drive goes “offline” 95% of the time. Slow as hell response time when it does work. Hate this thing. Maybe I should have got SSD version. Would return but return window was only 30 days after I bought it and it’s been 2 months. Stay away.

this is what I was looking for a long time !!!!!!!!! backing up SD card was nightmare and I am not sure how many I lost. This one is awesome - just plug it and sd is backed up automatically.

Cannot be happier with my purchase. I am in a place where there's no wifi nor data signal. Add my movies collection on it and I can watch all my movies via a wifi connection from the HD to my tablet. Usually can watch 2 full movies before battery runs out. Have not try to connect 2 device at the same time yet. But if possible, it will be a great gadget to bring on road trip, so the kids can watch whatever they like in the back.

Battery lasts about 4-5 hours using both wifi bands (2.4 and 5). Heavier than my Seagate Wireless, about 50%.
The real problem is the MyCloud software to use it!! I have over 5,000 files on mine and searches have been a major problem. First, they are far slower than my Seagate which indexes its files. Second, searches often fail to locate a file searched for! (Example, I asked for a search for "Johnny B. Goode" using just the word Johnny - the search failed. So I purchased FileExplorer Pro from the Apple App Store. It found six files in less than a minute that contained the word Johnny.) Third, it wants me to use MyCloud.com which I do not have an account for and asks me to login and no means to start an account. Fourth, wireless transfer speeds are slower than my Seagate as videos stutter sometimes during viewing. (That's why I run wifi Band 5.0).
I thought this drive with more features and a longer battery life would replace the Seagate. Guess not just yet. I have to add that the Seagate Wireless app is worse than the WD MyPassPort Pro wireless app.

This is the bomb-diggity folks! It has it's own Wifi hotspot and can upload your photos to it from your wifi-enabled device without any difficulty. <<<<<HIGHLY RECOMMENDED>>>>>

Do not purchase this product!!! I have used both the Seagate Satellite device and the WD version of streaming and have been terribly disappointed by the reliability of the WD product. Within (4) months I have now had two complete failures and wouldnt you know they both have happened prior to big flights...I’m done thinking that a new device will fix the inherent issues.
Prior to another complete drive failure the device will lock up and not stream, you essentially will need the reboot the device 4x’s for a single device stream...terrible product and will not be ordering again!

Very frustrating and disappointing experience. The device worked properly for a week. Then it just stopped. Nothing could revive it and the technical support from WD couldn’t touch it. And this was the SECOND time this happened. Makes me think that the technology is just not there yet for Wireless External Hard Drives.

It’s good to store your pics on anywhere but if you want to transfer video files just forget it. It doesn’t allow you transfer video files on your phone or tablet. If you gonna buy this for video storage, transfer from your phone or table please don’t. It might give you a huge disappointment.
