After Tech Support got things going, I went to transfer a file by USB cable. It crashed. I restarted, and had to reset, and eventually was successful. I then wanted to test using Wifi transfer with another larger file of photos. Came back 20 minutes later to find an error message. Tried to re-start the process, and drive gave me various error messages, basically could not access the files. At one point, all the blue lights started flashing on the unit, I don't know why. I tried to connect back via USB, and this failed, as well.
Somewhere along the line I got fed up and decided I would return this. But of course I have to erase the disk, because some files had already transferred.
Now the disc won't even let me move the files to trash OR even wipe the drive completely clean using Disk Utility. It will not allow access via WiFI or by USB. The disk will not mount at all and I get error messages when I try to erase or recover or repair the drive. What a piece of junk.
I have already printed out my return label, but tomorrow I"m going to have to call Tech Support again, and spend another hour, just to have them wipe this drive clean before I return it. Since the blue light has been flashing for about an hour, unable to mount disk, I don't know if they'll even be able to do that.
Thank you MyPassport Wireless Pro, for wasting 8 hours of my life.

Work fine with SD memory and XQD memory reader.
My Passport wireless Is a Hard Disk Drive with battery, be careful when the disk is in operation doesn't move the HD. If you shake a HD when read or write, could break the disk. The most of bad comments could be realted to this cause. The software is basic but work fine.

2. The battery has issues. I fully changed it and turned it off. Overnight, the battery lost power down to 77 percent. The battery fully charged appears to last 4 or 5 hours. I am afraid to keep it plugged in as there are reviews elsewhere of the lithium battery bulging through the case.
I am going to return this. It is not doing what it was marketed to do.

Pros:
-This thing works as advertised.
- It was easy to set up.
-I installed Plex without incident and it worked really well as a Plex Media Server. I purchased it so that I could use it a media server in the house as well as on the road in the car/hotel etc..
-My kiddos were able to connect to it with their tablets to stream any of our collection of movies or music.
-I was really looking at this device as great solution to some of my electronic needs on road (media, camera sd chip backup, etc..)
-If you don't need it to be on for long periods of time it is a great device.
Cons:
WD left of some key bits of design that will forever limit how well I can use this device as I intended. The instructions should have explicitly noted that the unit should not be plugged into the charger while in use. While connected to the charger the unit is always trying to charge the battery which gets very hot and shuts the whole unit down to protect itself. Then after just a short while the battery is cooked and no longer takes a charge. We barely got to use it before it became unusable.
I just wish the unit was smart enough to manage the battery charge and run the unit. Or maybe they should have provided a separate auxiliary power option that allowed for continuous operation. A 5 hour car ride was all it took to cook the thing off.
WD was excellent and quick to offer warranty replacement. I will unfortunately have to modify how I use the replacement device and let it run until low battery before it goes back on the charger. This will severely limit my intended use. So close to perfection as a portable NAS and Media Server....for a few hours anyway.
Other Thoughts:
There are so few options to run a portable media server to date that that I will tolerate the shortcomings. I don't think any other similar device actually advertises Plex compatibility. If you plan on using this as an extended use media server in your home or on the road just don't charge it until it needs it.

I did not try any of the other functions. I am returning because of the USB problem.

Now for the negatives. First I ordered a 3TB drive and received a 2TB drive. I had to contact Amazon support and they quickly fixed the problem, but it was a hassle. Once i got the 3TB drive I updated to the latest firmware and recommended in comments, but continued to have connectivity issues. The drive will randomly start blinking all of the lights and the drive is not accesible. It is not easy to turn off at this point and I have had to do a hard reset to get it to work again. Also it is spotty on connectivity to my mac when plugged in via USB. Sometimes the drive shows up, more often than not it simply doesn't show. I can see that a drive is plugged in with my computer hardware monitor but the drive does not show up in Disk Utility. Often I have had to give the disk to my friend with a PC so that the disk can be scanned and fixed before my mac can view it again. Also if I try to use the SMB (samba) share to see the files I find that it is painfully slow often taking 20 secondes just to see the contents of a folder. Also, I have never gotten Plex to work. I have all my videos in mp4 format so they should not need transcribed, yet I cannot get the app to work. The first 2-3 times i tried to install PLEX it got stuck somewhere in the installation process and never finished. After waiting hours I had to force reset the device and try again. The last time it says that Plex was installed but that is also when the blinking issue I mentioned above started. Also I never got a single video to actually play over Plex.
Maybe my unit was faulty and that is why I had these problems. Overall I am pleased wth WD products I have used and this this product has alot of potential, but am sad that my product has not worked as I had expected.

Just to note that the small USB power adapter only has an attachment for the US, no other adapters are included - although there are empty slots in the packaging - clearly to accommodate additional adapters. I didn't and don't plan on using the power brick anyway. Extra adapters might have been useful though.
You will have to set aside a little time to set things up - though simple steps - to get everything running to your requirements. I have used the drive for a week and found it to be very useful for both backing up media without having to bring out the Macbook Pro and for watching movies on our iPads. Having only had the drive a week I am in the habit of checking to make sure all the files are there after an auto-import just to make sure, especially if I put the same card in a few times with additional data added on. Each time it creates a new folder with many sub folders buried in them which makes checking files that have been auto-saved a little tedious.
All in all I am happy with this product but I went into this knowing what I wanted and what this drive delivers. For the travel that we do, it works great.
Mine was pre-formatted as ExFAT.

Before a year product create a bad request 400157 and completely stop functioning. Fortunately I was using also cloud backup so I have recover some of my photos but unfortunately not all of them.
Before stop functioning it was also not stable and connecting the disk was not easy easy either.
My experience unfortunately It’s not a useful and reliable product as it was said on WD’s ads and should be stay away from this series.

Well, I'm a professional photographer and I wanted to love this My Passport Wireless Pro 3 TB so much. Alas, there's too little feedback on the sparse interface of the unit which requires turning on and constantly monitoring the app to see what's going on. I don't care about the audio\video streaming and I think there's a huge market for this for photographers but the biggest problem is the backups. Sometimes it works, sometimes it just picks up half a dozen photos from a shoot. I wait diligently for the lights to all glow and wait. The unplug the SD card carefully but nothing - maybe just a few photos are backed up.

Where things really started to break down was using the app (connecting was not consistent) , viewing footage (4k basically never worked), browsing folders with lots of media. The wifi connection in general seemed flaky, so it made previewing media totally unusable.

Well, tried a replacement, and got through the connection issues. Note; had to use a computer to get started, as phone software wouldn't accept the password again. tried it for two days, and had too many failures and complications to trust it in the field. Too bad, great idea, bad execution. Ive attached a screen shot of latest fubar showing my 3TB drive with 5.1 available. This is after it got into a situation where all but a couple hundred GB were available, had to hard reset to factory to get back to normal. This latest was just plain funny.
