the Passport suits my intended use .I bought it to back up all my files and it worked like a charm .should any of my drives fail or my computer crash ,I still have everything on the WD Passport.It's a good feeling. M.W.Tuch

The product is good, very easy to use, just plug in and work on my two laptops. I don't have to eject it and it won't corrupt data while other drive will complain or lost data. The only thing I am not quite happy is the sync program is not easy to work with, but I don't use it often. The price is good for a 160G version, since this is what I need. I don't need a 1T version may be it is relatively cheaper. No power supply need is one of the most convenience things this product provide. The speed is fast, I would say for most of the photo copy work.

Product arrived on time and well packaged. Am currently using it exclusively as a Time Machine destination drive for a MacBook laptop. Easy to use (plug and play) but required complete erasure to be configured properly for Time Machine so you'll need to migrate the preloaded software first or you will lose it. The bundled software was Windoze compatible only so I didn't mind losing it.Portability and reliability make up for near glacial speed of the USB connection. Allow several hours for the first backup; my 45GB back up took about 10 hours to complete.

The WD Passport Essential is a fine portable hard drive, but it does NOT work on the Mac PowerBook G4, regardless of the stated specs.To all Mac PowerBook G4 Users: The G4 doesn't have enough power in the USB port to power an external hard drive. You must purchase an external hard drive that connects through FireWire or has an external power source. I prefer the LaCie Little Disk with FireWire.Thank you, Amazon, for the easy return.

I CANNOT GET IT TO INSTALL, I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT WESTERN DIGITAL AND THEY DON'T EVEN RESPOND TO MY EMAILS. THERE ISN'T ANY INSTALLATION DISK, NO INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND THE PLUG AND PLAY WON'T PICK IT UP. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM AMAZON AGAIN.IT WAS A TOTAL WASTE OF MONEYL. LINDA STAMPER

I removed the software and manually manage all my files for this hard drive. I use it as a main drive for my music and photos. The small size is great for throwing in my purse or pocket as I take it with me all the time to rip music for my friends' computers.

Product is great, very small in size so doesn't take up a lot of room. Plenty of room for my pictures and music. Shipping was very fast too!

Product needed some set up from their technical support department. Once set up its as easy as copy and paste. Qucik delivery and no issues to speak of, other then needing the original tech support to get it going.

For my first external harddrive, this one gets the job done. I haven't had it very long (a month) but it hasn't been finicky and I can easily transfer my information over to it. It is compact and light so it is easy to carry from place to place if I need to. So far, no complaints.

This external hard drive is simply great, light to carry and perfect.It handles roughness good and it's size is just great.I recomend WD "my passport" in any of it's presentations, sizes or colors.Buy a neoprene protector or something cause the black one gets stained with fingers and dust.

I bought this product to back up my laptop and it does the job! It does not require a seperate cable for power - simply the usb cable. I havn't had any errors with it so far. The only flaws that I don't like is that the usb cable is short, and that it has its own program to copy programs (which I find it useless since I just copy and paste the files into the hard drive). Other than that, it's nice, slick, portable, and USER FRIENDLY. Recommended!

Pros: Easy to carry. Fast and efficient. After 1 month - no problems to report. The passport also looks wonderful. Nicely designed caseCons: Easy to scratch the surface. Carrying/protective case is a must. Due to its small size, perhaps easier to damage.Summary: A good buy.

I'm very pleased with this purchase. The drive is quite portable, and extremely easy to use. I've had no problems with it at all, and like the file transfer speeds. For some reason, the Western Digital software that comes installed in this drive won't install on my pc. So I really have no idea whether there are some good features I'm missing out on. For this reason, I gave the product 4 stars out of 5.

THe WD Passport external hard drive is light weight, compact, and easy to carry around. I have other external hard drives but I find myself using this one the most because it is easy.Thus far I've not had a problem with it getting power through the USB cable but my laptop batteries rarely get run down below 50% reserve. Most of the time my laptop is plugged into an AC outlet.This is great to store pictures, movies, or any data you don't wish to put on your hard drive or comes from another machine.

I've had this product a little while and have used it a small amount. So far it's worked fairly well. The only problem I've had with it is that when I tried to remove some files from the Passport, it deleted them from my computer's hard drive too. Luckily I had them backed up on another CD so I didn't lose them for good, or it could've been pretty devistating. So be on guard!Besides that, it's worked out pretty well for me so far.

Looks like it will work OK on my Windows XP machine because I did not load their stupid software and the Google junk programs or Sync software. - Win XP machines ask you in advance if you want to use their program or not - you have option to "Do Nothing" (HIGHLY RECOMMEND you select: "Do Nothing"). - On my Windows 2000 machine the unit immediately took off on "autopilot" - BIG MISTAKE!!! Took me two hours and numerous "lock-ups" to get their Sync program and two other programs and related files off my machine.

I had some issues initially getting this running. It requires either two USB ports or a powered USB hub. But now that I have that sorted out it has been working great. I'm not using the sync software. If you transfer over a folder or file and then delete the file from your other drive it will delete it from the WD next time you sync them. I got this so I can move some files and folders off of my laptop and free up some space. But it is nice and compact, smaller than I was expecting but that is a plus for me.

Well, this is a really good device, it is fast if you want to play from it, but the transfers is really slow, and if you do it with the software it is worst.
