I noticed some confusion about what exactly this devise is used for.The main purpose of this is not to upgrade to 802.11n from 802.11g, although it can be used for that, and you will be getting faster speeds with n. (N has far better throughput reliability, speed, and distance--with a caveat.) It is to be able to use the new 5 GHz band to connect to your wireless router--and you most likely will be getting faster speeds with that band too. But the main reason you may want to do this is if you live in a heavily congested wireless network area. Your neighbors' internet networks might be interfering with your connection to your wireless router.Set n on 5 GHz only in your router homepage, and you will be getting the fastest speed out of your connection possible, along with the least amount of interference. While n is supposed to give least distance, if you have your connected devise in a straight line from your router you shouldn't see a dropoff.I live in a place where there are at least ten internet networks in close range. In the evenings, when I try to stream movies at times, there is significant lag in them, even to the point sometimes that they will stop completely. I have tried changing channels in my router software, and it may help for a time but inevitably, someone nearby will decide they want to use that same channel, and again, there are those annoying glitches in the evenings when I'm watching a movie. It seems I and my neighbors are both using the same wavelength to connect wirelessly to our routers. So this devise comes to the rescue. Along with this, you will be needing a dual band wireless router, one that not only uses the usual 2.4 GHz band, but also the 5 GHz band. With some routers, you must choose one or the other at a time, but other routers allow you to use both at once, and that is the kind you want. That way, you can switch back and forth from one to the other at will with this little adapter. NETGEAR Wireless Router - N900 Dual Band Gigabit (WNDR4500) is the one I have and recommend. It has great versatility. This devise comes with a USB cable, so that rather than plugging it directly into your USB port, you can plug the cable into your port, then plug the other end of the cable into this. This allows you to move the adapter around and find the place where it finds the signal the best. Also the adapter itself is longer than the usual flash drive and may for some people be too long to be convenient, if it is sticking out of the side of your little laptop for example. It also comes with a mini DVD to install the drivers and utility. While you can simply plug this into a USB port and let Windows find and install the driver for it, you still need the utility that makes it work and that can only be found on the DVD. After installation of this utility, the configuration page pops up on the desktop. You then click on Network in the tools section, and you will see a display of all the available wireless networks. You then select the target network name and click Connect to build a connection. You are then shown a window where you enter your network password key. Finally, you see a screen that shows you are now connected to your network via the adapter. This devise works flawlessly for me. In about five minutes, I had it setup and linked to my dual band router.I ran a speedtest comparing the 2.4 band built into my netbook (Atheros Network Adapter), and the 2.4 band on the TP-Link Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter, five times with each, with the following results:with TP-Link adapter:25.06, 5.12 ( download speed, upload speed)18.53, 5.3227.55, 5.2229.32, 5.3025.86, 5.18without:29.78, 5.3528.62, 5.2229.69, 5.2025.44, 5.2025.01, 5.195GHz band on the TP-Link:29.86, 11.4229.73, 11.4029.76, 11.4731.01, 11.4528.06, 11.48I don't find the results between the two network adapters in the 2.4 band significantly different, and the differences can be accounted for by natural variations in the internet traffic in general.Pros:+ allows switching at will to either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band+ included cable to attach to USB port is nice touch+ easy setup, simple well written quick start guide+ reasonably priced+ good distance reach+ reliable and problem free+ 24/7 technical supportCons:noneFew electronics companies offer 24/7 technical support, but TP-Link does. You can contact them for immediate help at any time at:TP-LINK Support Teamsupport@tp-link.com(866) 225-8139Since I have Windows 7, I didn't need to update the driver, but some people with Windows 8 may need to update the driver for this at the TP-Link.com website. There may be one issue with a 5GHz band, and it is this. You may have a problem if you do not have all 5GHz hardware. However, for video streaming or using a server for backups, 5GHz is the way to go. This will make your computer accept 5GHz, but what about those other devises connected to your router. In other words, make sure your dual band router can use both bands at the same t

The TP-LINK TL-WDN3200 Dual Band Wireless N600 USB Adapter is the best external wi-fi adapter I've ever read about or used. As soon as I had it installed, it connected within seconds and immediately I had a 300 Mbps connection, which doubled my current 144 Mbps wi-fi connection that I get from my Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230. I tested it and it downloads/uploads much faster than the Centrino and similar devices I've used on both desktops and laptops. It comes with a small sized CD so if you have a slot-tray styled CD or DVD player, then this won't work, you'll need one with the regular slide-out tray. Otherwise, you can simply download it online from TP's tech support website, and this preferable anyway since this is how you'll get the latest firmware or software for this device. If you install this by using simple plug and play, Windows 7 (in my case) will install a generic Windows driver which works but it won't give you the full effect of this hardware's capability, so make sure you either install the driver and software that comes with this, or simply download it as mentioned in the previous paragraph.Installation is quick and easy and it works immediately, haven't experienced any dropped connections and I've had it for several weeks now. The included software is pretty straight-forward and is easy to use, simply click on the Start menu then go to programs to access the TP-LINK wireless manager, within that you can control connection parameters, security, etc.The only downside is that it's fairly long, so on a laptop it may be a tad cumbersome if you're moving your laptop around as it may bump into something, but if it's for a desktop or tower PC then installing it on the back will keep it out of sight and won't interfere. This is a very minor complaint though, chances are if you're looking at buying this to either improve upon existing wi-fi or to simply add wi-fi to your device, then this is what you want, period, because it delivers in spades.Build quality is solid in case you happen to drop it on the floor or smack it accidentally. All around a great wi-fi adapter. This is my third TP-LINK device and I realize that it's not a well-known company as of yet, but so far I've seen nothing but top-notch quality from this company. Their wi-fi routers/switches work amazingly, don't get hot at all (unlike many networking devices), use very little power and have tons of advanced features for the IT gurus out there, but at the same time they're easy enough to install and use for the novices alike, and this device is no exception in terms of quality and ease of use. If you need a strong wi-fi signal, then look no further.

This review is for the TP-LINK N600 Wireless Dual Band USB Adapter, Model Tl-WDN3200 Ver 1.This USB Adapter works great. The box contains a mini-CD to install the driver (and utility if preferred), a 3.25 ft USB 2.0 cable, the instruction manual, and the USB 2.0 wireless adapter. The driver installs in 3 minutes (if installing wireless utility also) or less. The length of the adapter is 3.25 inches long with the USB head, and the adapter protrudes 2.75 inches when plugged into a laptop/desktop. You don't need to plug the adapter directly into the port on a laptop/desktop, but you can use the included USB cable and connect that to the adapter. So, the advantage of this adapter? The 5 Ghz. While most routers use the 2.4Ghz spectrum, some have started using the 5Ghz spectrum, and some home phone systems also use 2.4Ghz or 5 Ghz. In your current wireless network, you may have been experiencing a slowdown in speed caused by interference from other wireless devices in your house that use the same spectrum, or by your neighbors' wireless networks who are also using G or N networks. As the wireless range capabilities are increasing in the distance that a wireless signal can travel, there may be a greater chance for interference. But that's why this device can help resolve that issue by getting onto a spectrum that is different that most other devices and wireless networks. This device connected to my network at 300Mbps, while my laptop's original card was a G network card and only capable of connecting at 54Mbps. You need to understand that unless you are upgrading from A or B network speeds, you are not going to notice a difference in the download speeds of accessing the Internet and downloading files from the Internet. What you will notice a difference in speeds will be communication between devices on your own home network. If you have multiple computers sharing data in your own house, that speed will increase. But not your internet surfing. The Internet surfing speeds also depends on whether you have an N wireless router. With this device you will experience less or no interference at all from other devices and you may be able to increase your Internet surfing speed if you were experiencing interference on your network using your old wireless network card/adapter. You will definitely see an increase in the speeds between devices on your own home network. The adapter installs quickly, works great, it's easy to setup profiles and connect to networks, and offers all the security features you need to access your wireless network. 5 stars.

I've now got a few TP-Link devices and must admit that I quite impressed with them. For the price there really isn't much on the market at the moment that can compare. The TP-Link USB wireless adapter is a breeze to setup. The included CD contains everything that you need and you don't really need to even look at the included instruction booklet. This wireless adapter covers the gamut of commonly used wireless speeds and has the added 5Ghz that appears to be becoming quite popular at the moment.I tested this device on a number of configurations. First with Windows 7 with a G based wireless router. Next I tested with a wireless N Router then I set my N router to 5Ghz only (as opposed to the standard/more common 2.4Ghz for wireless N). Every time the TP-Link managed to connect and worked flawlessly. To test the 5Ghz mode I copied a large file from one system with this TP-Link attached, to another system that was wired to my router on a 1 Gigabit connection. On smaller files you don't really notice that much of a difference, but you do when you start to transfer over larger files. It is quite noticable the time saving.I then repeated these tests using Windows 8. Although the device isn't specifically Windows 8 compatible and there are no Windows 8 drivers (at the time of writing this review), it worked fine with the included Windows 7 drivers. So yes it works with Windows 8, just not with a signed/approved windows 8 driver.I then tested range. I have a 3 story/level house with my router on the top level and had no problems getting a good signal in my basement through all the concrete, woodwork etc. This is also partly due to the router that I use and not just the wireless card itself, but I wanted to see if the card would pick up the signal which it did.The size of the TP-Link adapter is a bit larger than a standard thumb drive but not large enough to become a bother.Overall I can't really see any negatives about this product and for the price I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything that even matches it, never mind surpasses it.Recommended.

The TP-Link N600 is a very well made adapter, construction is top notch but it does feel like its a little bigger than it needs to be! I love the dual band type N gear; it really can speed up your wireless experience and make life a lot easier. The N600 installed very nicely under win7 and linked to my router with no problems and I instantly saw a nice speed increase on my Laptop, it now rivals my iPhone 5 during speed tests. My only complaint with the N600 is the range. I find the connection degrades when I get past about 27 feet, but the speed is fine so long as I am within the 27ft mark. I find the range issue to be very odd given the fact that the N600 is larger than a typical Wifi USB adapter and therefore should have a very good Antenna system built into all that extra space. I guess that the issue may boil down to shielding and cross talk interference between the 2Ghz band and 5Ghz band. Since I am using mine about 20 feet from my router I have no real problems but be warned if you're planning on being 40 ft away this unit will probably not work! I am not sure if there is a Dual Band Wifi adapter on the market that works further than the N600 so this still might be your best choice in the dual band market.Tech Note:Keep in mind that a good USB port system has a limit of about 500ma of current so most products try to stay comfortably under the limit so as not to fry your motherboards ports. In most designs current is limited to about 250ma so that's not a whole lot of power to work with! When you consider that the N600 has two transmitters and two receivers it comes as no surprise that they probably had very little in the way of spare power to work with and that may be why the range is a bit limited. If this is the case and the N600 is performing better than most of the other units on the market my score should be 5 stars but for right now this is my first dual band adapter and the Range issue forces a point deduction.

A USB wireless adapter is a quick and simple solution if you have an older computer without an internal wireless card. Unlike an internal card, there's no fussing around with removing your computer's case or unscrewing anything - just plug this adapter into a USB port, install the drivers, and you're good to go.The setup is super quick with a simple installation procedure (it uses a shockingly small mini-cd, but don't worry, it fits fine in any standard CD/DVD tray). This TP-Link adapter is also dual band, so it will work with 2.4 or 5 Ghz wireless networks. After installation, the software quickly detects all the available networks in range and shows the signal strength. Connecting to any given network is as a simple as clicking "connect" and typing the network's password. Be sure to check the "connect automatically" as well box or you'll have to select the network and re-enter the password every time you turn on the computerWhile the adapter can plug straight into a USB port, it also includes an extra USB extension cord for if you want to set the adapter on a desk and not have it sticking out of the front or side of your computer where it can be jostled out of place. So far I've got no complaints with the N600 wireless adapter, as I haven't had any dropped connection problems, even when playing online games like Guild Wars 2. If you need to make your computer wireless and don't want to install an internal card, this adapter will solve your problem with minimum fuss.

Okay, so this is the deal. I have a home computer, built in network card and have been getting 100Mbps connection speed. I thought this would be great because it says 300Mbps. So I plug it in and install it. However, I'm running Windows 8, but the install disc only covers up to Windows 7. So, I go online to TP-Link's website and download BETA drivers for Windows 8. Was a bit confusing to try to install the drivers because what the instructions say and what the actual screen shows is completely different. But, I compared the connection speed of my built in LAN card and it says 100Mbps. I disconnected my RJ45 cable and plugged in this Wireless USB device and after configuration, I'm only getting 50Mbps!! My Linksys WRTG router is a 2.4 Ghz. This product states at that speed, I should have 300Mbps. Not sure why I'm only getting half of what I had with my built in.I will have to do some troubleshooting. Maybe there is a setting I need to configure. It's a decent card for getting to the Internet. But, if it is not doing what it states, is it really a product you'd buy?I gave it 3 stars as of now, because set up was easy, and it did connect without problems and I'm on-line with no problems. But, until I get answers to my question from the manufacturer, I'm going to leave it at 3.UPDATE:I sent an email to customer support and I still have not heard back from them. Their drivers for Windows 8 didn't work and the connection speed is still half of what I have when I use the built in Network card. Which happens to be 50 MBPS. So, I dropped my rating from 3 to 2 stars.

Installation of the included drivers and utilities went well, although once that was complete the configuration utility said it couldn't find the adapter. An unplug and replug of the USB cable seemed to solve the problem without having to reboot or tweak the network configuration. I've had to do a similar unplug/replug one other time in the last couple of days. Other than that it works fine and gives good signal strength to a router about 70 feet and two walls away. Streaming movies run without issues. Speed tests show 10.4Mbps downstream, 3.6 Mbps upstream. The included USB extension cable is nice, lets me move this somewhat large adapter off the directly-attached USB port and put it in a better position to get signal.Update 1/18/2013 - Seems to always happen this way. Right after I buy something, a better/cheaper version pops up. In this case, another vendor had the TL-WN722N, bundled with a "UC100" USB cradle, for about the same price as I paid for the TL-WN721N. I'm still happy with the 21's performance (despite the occasional need to unplug/replug it to the USB cable.) But I think the 22 is better because it includes an external antenna, promising better signal strength, and the included cradle keeps the adapter from flopping around in some unattractive fashion. With the 22 I get 26Mbps downstream, 4.06 upstream. Clearly the better choice.

The TP-Link dual-band wireless adapter will allow you to connect to just about any wireless network currently operating, from the oldest "A" and "B" networks to cutting-edge 5-GHz "N" doohickeys. As you would expect for a modern wireless adapter, security is fine, with the current state of the art WPA2 system supported. So from that standpoint, you can't go wrong.I have two quibbles; the first is that it's a little bit on the large side and will stick well out from your USB port--although the extension cable that came in the box with it can help with that. The other is only applicable to some readers; I wasn't able to get the unit to work with Linux--neither my Ubuntu laptop (running 12.04) nor Fedora 18 (which has an up-to-date kernel). As with most things Linux, this is likely to change over time as whatever driver is necessary to support this unit is incorporated into the kernel; but for the time being it's not working.
