We had an old pc that didn't have wireless built in. This was a great way to make it wifi ready and allow for the fastest speed available with n standard and 5GHZ. It was easy to set up and has been working well since then. I would recommend this product.

I've been having great success using this to connect my PC to the wireless network in my house. Worked out of the box with both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Also, it came with a little USB extension cable, which helps plug it into cramped USB slots.Occasionally (usually just after the computer boots up or wakes from sleep mode) it needs to be unplugged and replugged to be detected, but I've yet to have it suddenly stop working while I'm on the computer.

The building I live in has free wi-fi but the signal in my apartment is weak. Service was really slow. Because this adapter is a dual band device when I hooked it up to my computer it made all the difference in the world!! Highly recommended.

Update November 11, 2012:Changed Stars from 3 to 5.Retested this adaptor both on an encrypted connection, and an open wifi.At this point, on ArchLinux, adaptor worked flawlessly. The reason for the change may be improved Arch software.Original review follows:For those of you who are looking for a USB wifi adaptor that is well supported by the Linux kernel, this unit is a definite possibility.I used this unit for a long time with Arch Linux. And until very recently, it worked fine. Suddenly, it was problematic. I worked to troubleshoot it for some time, without luck.I determined the device would work fine in a new install, but somehow it would fail in an updated system. As you may well know, Arch Linux gets updates continuously.Buyer beware.Steve.

Just plug it in and it will work for you in seconds. Fast setup. My wireless router only got 150Mbps so I can't say how fast it is.

Have been using it for 2 years since my builtin laptop adapter stopped working; very reliable so far and great speed. Able to get signals anywhere from my house; far better than a mini USB adapter that I have. Probably the negative reviewers had issues with software installation or setup; for me, it just worked once the drivers are installed and no issues since then. If you are looking for a good USB adapter, this is highly recommended based on my experience.

I debated about getting the Onkyo UWF-1 Wireless LAN Adapter (currently $25.45 ) and the TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter (currently $15.91) and this TP-LINK TLWN721N Adapter (currently selling for $7.99 at Frys). I decided on this cheaper option. What did I have to lose?This little adapter works like a charm with my Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver, for much less money. By the way, my receiver sets about 25 feet (next room) away from my ATT U-Verse router. I get between 85 - 95% signal strength. The unit comes with a USB extender cord for placing the adapter behind the receiver, if desired.I would highly recommend this adapter, at least for the kind of use that I have explained above.

The internal wireless adapter stopped working on my laptop and this works great as a substitute. Have had it for 4 months and haven't had any problems with it. My only complaint is that it's a little bulky but for the cost I can't really complain.

No complications whatsover with the installation and setup for my Windows 7 64-bit systems. Recognized by Windows immediately, and with a wired ethernet connection as backup Windows Update loaded the Atheros driver automatically. Updated manually to the TP-Link Website's posted driver following that and there have been no hiccups. Internet throughput is NO different than if I was plugged in...although I haven't tested the data rate within my LAN (D-Link DIR-655) yet. Signal is good everywhere I've tried -- so not a bad deal.

At first I was very apprehensive because I was not very familiar with TPlink and their products. The price was also very dirt cheap ~ $11.00 which did not instill any confidence on my part about the product's reliability and workmanship. I am extremely happy I made the purchase anyway as the item has performed superbly for me for the past week or two. My computer is on the first floor of my home and the router is on the second floor, and there is no problem with the signal strength no matter where I go in the house. I have used it for skype, netflix, online gaming, etc and it has never dropped the signal or locked up in any way whatsoever. I have thrown everything I can to get this adapter to choke but it refuses to and all this with full bars to boot...it never goes below the full bars. If you are on windows 7, just plug it in and windows will install the driver automatically...easy...done. If you are one of those who must have the latest drivers, it is available at their website and that is what I use although the built in windows drivers work fine but I only tested it for about a day.

I bought this item about 1.5 months back. I am using it in Windows XP. However this is a useless device as the connection gets lost every few seconds. The problem is not with the network because my laptop gets excellent signal all the time without interruption. SO I suggest not to buy this crap!

Bought this to work with my Western Digital TV Live Plus Media Player so I could connect via WiFi. Unfortunately its version is 3.1 and the WD needs 2.0 version. I'm going to keep it anyway because I might need it for a PC that's not connected to the internet. When I loaded it onto my Dell XP it was very easy and worked perfectly. This just wouldn't work with my media player. Decided to connect player via RJ45 Ethernet cable instead.

I bought this USB adapter mainly beacause I want to connect my Nintendo DS to the Internet without lowering my Wireless network security (Nintendo DS only accepts connections with WEP encryption). So I tried to configure the device in Windows 7 and couldn't because Windows 7 doesn't allow you to create SoftAP's with WEP or no encryption at all, the minimum setting is WPA2.In order to solve this issue I installed a Windows XP virtual machine and there it worked flawlessly. The included software made the confiuration very easy and the manufacturer's Website has a little tutorial explaining this device different modes.To conclude, the device is very cheap and works as advertised, just be aware that you need Windows XP in order to create a SoftAP with WEP encryption.

I bought this for one of our legacy desktops that I occasionally update Windows or surf the net. Went to the Big Box retail, and left gagging at the cost. Went to old tried and true Amazon, and found this little gem for around $10. Easy install, even gave me the choice of installing the driver or driver AND utility. I choose driver, since the windows network interface is easy to navigate. My only regret is you can get the N version of this adapter for a couple $$ more. Didn't spot this until today. Oh well....I made my purchase based on searching for a high percent of positive reviews.

I bought this usb adapter after reading Christopher J. Davlin's review. I plugged in the usb adapter in my Linux PC, powered it on and it "saw" the wireless adapter. I configured the adapter to connect to my secure wireless LAN. It would connect via WPA security but only for seconds before disconnecting. I then used the wired eth0 adapter (to conect to the Internet) in order to run Update Manager. Once Update Mgr completed, I re-configured the wireless adapter, rebooted the PC and magic, it connected to my wireless router with WPA-personal security. It is a stable, secure connection. This adapter works well with Ubuntu 11.04. Thanks Christopher for taking the time to review this product!

Should work, good company, but in my case CS could not tell me how to get their router and this adapter to talk to each other. The adapter did not link immediately to the router, I tried to help, but listing the adapter as the primary resource would then shut off the wifi G of my computer. I could get G back if I uninstalled all utilities of the adapter. I'm sure it works for some folks, but not for me so far.

I purchased this based on two factors: it's cost and it's recommendation for Linux. The cost was great. However, it does not work for Linux. I thought it may be plug and play (based on another review), but it did not work for me with either Fedora 14 or Ubuntu 10. Of course, my next option was to see if I could get it to work using standard Linux approaches. Unfortunately TP-Link does not support Linux (the product description omits Linux as a supported operating system) and Atheros, the chipset supplier, has awful support. They provide a Linux driver that is non-functional (I tried on two different PCs, and others have reported the same problem). So, I strongly recommend AGAINST purchasing this item for a Linux system.TP-Link TL-WN821N 300Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter

I ordered and received mine end of April 2011, having been a fan of TP-Link for a while and checking the WDTV hardware compatibility list. But I found this adapter doesn't work on the WD TV, because this is "v3" of the hardware which uses a new Atheros chipset and is not certified (no drivers present on the WD device).I'd like to think WD will add support for this in an upcoming firmware, but I am not sure I want to keep it to find out. So may return this before the 30-days are up.On a side note, I love TP Link stuff and I tested the performance of this by plugging it into my notebook and it connected to my TP Link 300mb router and was excellent signal strength and speed.

I bought it for my new Windows 7 desktop and have had no problems. It installed easy and it works all right. Bot sure about its distance limitation though as my router is just 10 feet and 1 wall away.

It took longer to sort through the choices available in a usb wireless dongle than it did to install it. Works fine at 50ft from the modem and came with a usb extension cord. Am using on a desktop with XP pro.

Lo compre para poder transmitir v?deo desde mi pc a la habitaci?n y la velocidad no supera los 50 mbps, las pel?culas se ven cortadas, mientra que si uso el laptop que viene con wifi N integrado no tengo problema alguno y la velocidad supera los 120 mbps.I bought it to stream video from my pc to the room and speed not more than 50 mbps after some seconds of fluid playback (around 30 seconds) the movie became a slide show, while if I use the laptop that comes with integrated wifi N I have no problem and the speed over 120 mbps .

We are currently using 5 821N adapters in our workplace with 1 TP Link 1043ND, no hiccups, easy to install, works great on windows xp pro and 7 pro 32-bit.Comes with extension cable, adapter is not for laptop use because of the size, but great for desktops. 300mbps speeds are archived if router setup properly, N only 40mhz width. must be close to the router to have archive the best speeds.the only CON will be that the length is so-so to have 300mbps archived

I was in need to two USB adapters, and didn't feel like spending $30 each. I thought for less than $30 for the pair, I would give these a shot.Setup was simple with the included CD. The range is great, and speed it what you would expect. All in all, these are fantastic little units at a great price.

Had a laptop with a bad network adapter. This was the most cost-effective replacement to get wifi. Wish I would have just bought this before I paid to get the laptop diagnosed. Much cheaper than OEM replacement. Easy to setup. Bottom line is that this wireless G adapter works as it should. Recommended.

As a linux user primarily, I had had limited luck with similar items from Medialink, D-link and Ralink. This one, which uses the Atheros guts, is the most linux friendly of the bunch, and also works great with Windows 7. At last I can use my desktop with wireless that just plain works, regardless of which version of linux I use. To be frank, there are some linuxes that still don't work with it, but they are now the minority. All the big name distributions work flawlessly with this, and with linux getting better and better on a daily basis, this will only improve. No drivers to install... (unlike windows) just plug it in and it sees your available connection(s). Now that's what "plug and play" should be... not plug, insert cd, wait a few minutes, reboot, THEN (maybe) play. Sheesh!

I've had a Wireless N Router for some time now, but I always had a Wireless G Network adapter built into my laptop. I figured I'd go for the upgrade, because I could use a better signal with the extended range. I did my homework. I read reviews on EVERY Wireless N Adapter on the web. I came across this TP Link one, and figured it was the best bang for my buck. Well, that couldn't be further from the truth.Prior to using this network adapter, I had a 54.0 MBPS connection -- the standard for a Wireless G. After hookup, It went down to a variable rate of 14.0 MBPS to 27.0 MBPS. The speed was more than cut in half! I thought I did something wrong, so I went through the installation steps again, and even did research online as to what I may have done wrong. Turns out, nothing.So the speed was cut in half, but what about the range? Didn't increase a lick. This was actually a DOWNGRADE from the built-in Wireless B/G router I had already installed on my computer for free!I'm appalled at the misleading reviews on here, as they were most likely planted. Avoid this adapter at all costs!Oh, by the way, none of the software passes Verified Windows tests either. Throughout the installation, you constantly get "Warning!" pop-ups.**Updated, December 22, 2009**I've been using the adapter now a few weeks, and I mistakingly blamed the TP-Link Adapter for the slow down in the connection. It actually had something to do with my router. I now get speeds of 108.0 MBPS, so my internet speed DOUBLED. I'm happy with my purchase now, and can recommend this adapter.

This wireless n USB adapter works well with my TP-link TL-WR941ND wireless n router and gave strong signal which I did not have when I used my old linksys g router and the build-in wireless g. However, when I used this n adapter with my old linksys g router, it gave weaker signal than my build-in g receiver in my desktop. Must use with n router.

I purchased this item because, I needed a wireless USB device to connect to my D-link broadband router. This was a mistake it did not work at all, and the system software had to be updated upon arrival and installing to my Laptop. The service department was very nice in understanding my problem, they are aware of the problems with the compatibility of their OS and MicroSoft Windows 7 OS. I purchased a D-Link USB N type adapter to see if this will solve my problem.
