Picked this up because there are few devices I own that are not wireless and need more ports that what I have available on wireless router. This was very easy to setup! I simply plugged it into my Charter Modem and off it went, no configuring or restarting of anything in my house. The speeds are great, and only limited by the device you are using. I have connected my TP-Link Wireless router to this and had no problems there either. Worth the purchase.

There are devices that I really need to have them wired to the router instead of wifi. This network switch is great for sharing one ethenet cable going to the router. The switch operates at gigabit speeds. Have this in my family room to connect the Squeezebox (internet radio/music), PS3, HD DVD player, and A/V receiver. There is no need to access the control panel in the browser. You simply plug your devices in and everything works--true plug-n-play.

I prefer wired ethernet connections wherever I can have them throughout the house. This switch has noticeably sped things up on my network. Transferring large files between devices and playing video from my NAS is faster. And at the time of this review, you can't beat the price. I also love that this switch is energy efficient and it shuts down power to ports that are not being used. I have enough power hungry devices! Setup was literally plug and play. This is a great way to future-proof your network at a great price.

My home network has a bunch of connected devices. I have a Synology NAS station, three printers, my Mac Pro. When I got my third printer, my router didn't have enough ports, so I needed a switch.The TP-Link TL-SG1005D 5-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Desktop Switch works great. Basically it is a plug and play device. I just plugged everything in, "turned it on" and it worked.The only complaint I have, voiced by others, is I wish I could tell when I'm getting gigabit speeds from the device, but in most cases, it is really not that important.

Having run my computers on a wireless network for so long I had forgotten the speed I was missing until connected this hardwired network. This desktop switch is very easy too set up and works so well. It is nice too see a high quality product that performs as advertised for a decent price. This 5-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch also does not heat up. I do not have a meter but from the spec and the lack of heat generation from the switch I believe in its advertised function of energy saving. If you are looking for a desktop switch I would recommend this.

This TP-Link provides five 10/100/1000Mbps ports. Truly Plug & Play, this unmanaged switch allows the transfer of large files instantly with all the reliability IEEE 802.3x provides. When the computer or network equipment is turned off, this product will power down by up to 75% to save power. This switch has no cooling fan that makes its operation quiet. This allowed me to expand my wired network at a fair price without any hassles. It works perfectly and meets all of my demanding expectations.

I can't say much about this little switch except that it does it's job and it's an excellent value. If you're in the market for a switch there's no reason to pass this one up. If you've got a mixed network of 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) equipped machines, this will not only provide your network with switching and throughput your Gigabit machines can take advantage of, it will also improve the performance of your Fast Ethernet devices by providing store-and-forward switching. It has improved throughput on my mixed-mode network considerably even though I only have one device with a Gigabit network card. Streaming videos from my desktop Plex server to my Roku and from iTunes to my AppleTV is now totally seamless, without buffering or either device dropping off the network.I should note that my Roku and AppleTV were previously connected by 150Mbps wifi, and my new setup is connected as such..Desktop (Plex media server/iTunes) > TP-Link Gigabit Switch > DSL gateway/router > Cisco 10/100 Switch > Streaming boxes(Roku and AppleTV)

Unmanaged switches are wonderful for the tech-unsavvy who want to plug extra devices into their network. All you do is plug an ethernet cable from you cable modem, DSL modem or wireless router into one of the ports, and all the rest of the ports are on your network.It works perfectly.I have honestly never heard of TP-Link before this, but they gained my trust with this product. Great consumer-grade gigabit switch for under $30.

Good basic 5 port gigabit switch. Inexpensive, compact, easy set up and energy efficient.However, it is lacking a very important feature for me. Not included in this design are LED's that tell you whether you are connected at 10/100 or 10/100/1000.I don't want to be running speed tests or checking software settings TO SEE IF I am running fast Ethernet or gigabit.All my other switches I have used have these diagnostic indicators and for about the same price.For that reason, I am awarding 3 stars.

Pros----------------1) Less than 20 bucks.2) Works well and tested at full gigabit speeds.3) Perfect for your LAN setup next to your cable modem to split connection to all your rooms in the house.Cons-----------------1) 5 Ports actually mean 4 usable extendable ports since 1 port is usually used for uplink which means you can at most link to 4 rooms in the house. It would be nice to have more ports. The housing does support at least 7 ports.Summary:------------------If you need one, get it. Super cheap and works as advertised.

I have been using this switch for a couple of weeks. Luckily it is plug and play because the instructions are for a different model 8 port switch. The speed is good for the PCs I have hooked up to this switch. I did have a problem with my wife's MAC, it does not work on this switch. I tried different ports and then I even ran a different cable, still did not work. So I put my wife's MAC back on the main router and it works fine. Kinda confusing.It is definitely faster than the 10/100 switch we were using.

I have internet connections in all rooms of my house but I was doing a setup where I needed 4 connections in one room. I got this unit, connected it to the wall and connected the four pieces of equipment to it. All of the pieces worked from the start so I was very pleased. I ran the speed checker and I had 100MBps.If you are looking for a cheap (emphasis on cheap as it also looks cheap) switch, give this one a try.

As of now, it is the least expensive 8 port Gigabit switch available on Amazon. I have used multiple Netgear, Trendnet and D-Link network switches. The only one I had problems with was D-Link switch.Some people are saying that this switch does not always perform at Gigabit speeds, but in my short use, I have not seen any problems so far. As of now, if you need 8 port network switch, this is the one to go for.

This unit is bigger than any switch I've had before, but it needs to be because it holds more input/outputs than any of the others. Most switches are for 4 products. If you have 2 computers, 3 printers and a Direct TV modem, you've already exceeded that capabililty. Up to now I've been using 2 switches, with one pulling off the other. This new TP Link makes it much easier. So I can surely recommend it.

As network gear goes this is a great little device. You plug it in and go. No fuss no muss. It auto detected my cable from my dsl router, so when I plugged my nas to it along with with my PC, it was getting internet, and gigabit speed for NAS to PC, all without needing to tweak any settings. Could not be happier with this product. It does exactly what I was hoping it would do when I requested it.

I got this to replace one of the switches by another brand that went bad. I find that the TP-Link performance is exactly as advertised and I see that the case doesn't get too warm. I look forward to testing the longevity of the product, I will post an update if I have problems. In this situation if you don't see an update than that is good news as the switch is still going strong.Happy Shopping!

Theres not much to say about these desktop switches -- it either works to deliver its advertised speed, and remains up, or it doesn't. This switch does the job. I swapped out an old Linksys desktop switch at my office with this one, and it worked flawlessly. TP-Link may not be as well known as its competition, but they've been delivering affordable network solutions for years. Would certainly recommend!

Lots of complaints about the noisy fan. I have the 16-port version that is a few years old, and I can confirm this. But the latest information on the TP-Link web site lists this model as fanless for hardware version 7.0. Is hardware version 7.0 what is shipping from this seller now? Can the seller confirm that what he is selling is the latest or at least the fanless model? Other than that, the 16-port TP-Link has served me well for years. I'd like to replace it with the fanless 24-port model (if it exists). I don't see any other avenue to ask this very important question before I make my purchase. Please advise. Thanks.

This item worked great until it fried after only a week or so for no known reason. I am guessing it was a fluke, but worth mentioning. I really noticed a difference in the wireless speed before and even more so when I had to switch back to my older slower switch. It is very possible that someone in my house did something wrong to fry it so not sure I want to blame the quality of this product.

I bought one of these to connect to my Apple Airport Express router. My Airport Express only has one ethernet out port, which was connected to my PC. I have a nearby DirecTV DVR that I also wanted to bring online, but couldn't due to there only being one ethernet port on my router.I wanted to find a cheap, quality solution to connect both devices, along with a few other devices in the entertainment center, and this TP-Link switch was what I found to work best. Very cheap, 1000MBps (Gigabit) speeds, and 5 ports. Best of all: no configuration required! Plug it in and you're done.If I'm ever in the market for more networking gear, TP-Link is definitely a solution I'll be looking to.

I've moved most of my home theater equipment to hardwired ethernet connections rather than wifi, to reduce buffering delays. I've got this switch connecting my blu-ray player, Xbox 360, and a home theater pc to my network. I've not noticed any drop in speed with the switch in place, it's quiet, and it runs cool. What more can you ask for in a switch?

Very hard to write a long review for this; once upon a time, if you had one ethernet port and a bunch of devices you wanted to connect to the network, you'd buy a hub. For light traffic that was fine, but a even a rudimentary switch like this one sends packets only where they're intended to go, and performance is going to be better. This device is about as low-end as they come, but it works and the pricing is astonishing. $18? How is that even possible?

I've got a number of devices to connect between computers, printers, music, and home theater... this is a nice solid device. Plug in and go. I'm impressed to see gigabit at these prices.The lights are clear to see. The box is ok. I've also got a white Asus gigabit switch that is a little more unobtrusive.Overall. Fine product.

This unit is definitely worth the small cost you have to pay for it. Installation was a snap, and after hooking up 4 computers I did not have any dreaded network issues thus far!!! Which is a HUGE point for me as I was dreading all sorts of network connection issues with this or any new network device. This thing works, works fast, and works well.

This is an excellent little switch. It runs cool and quiet and does the job. Being unmanaged is also a plus, especially in a small environment and situation. The speeds are quite good and haven't noticed any slowdowns or bottlenecks. As with most switches, longevity is a plus and I trust the TP-Link brand to last a good while. Highly recommended.

I'm upgrading all the 10/100 hubs and switches in my network in anticipation of equipment with gigabit NICs, but already I can see the difference that replacing a couple hubs with an unmanaged switch can make. It may not be as stylish as some brands, but who's looking? It works, and that's all that counts.

Using a standard MTU I have been able to push 79MB/sec (Bytes not bits/sec)sustainedFor the speed of hard drives in most of my systems I'm pretty well pushing the max throughput of the drives, including being able to burst at over 90MB/s in the initial data push.Considering I couldn't find a cheaper gigaswitch the fact that I can't find a complaint should make this an easy choice.

Great product! We run 3 lap tops, PS3, Dell desk top and 2 printers (one wireless). My family is ALWAYS on the net. Son plays online on both his laptop and PS3. This switch gave us the ability to speed up our wireless with the flip of a switch. It's quiet and cool...doesn't heat up. I am getting one for him to take to school where there will be 4 of them in one room, all gaming. Great price as well!

At this point, ethernet switches are pretty much a commodity, so I got exactly what I expected. I simply unboxed the switch, connected it to power and plugged in my ethernet cables, and it worked.The write-up implies that it consumes less power than a regular switch. I have no way to test that, but certainly the unit does not run hot.If you want a gig ethernet switch that just works, this one is fine.

For my house my home network is way too complicated (two people but way too many devices and a home office)This integrated easily into my home network allowing me to move three network computers onto one router making them easier to network across desktops and laptops.

I was able to plug this switch into my cable and add two computers and a printer without any trouble whatsoever. I still have one port unused, so I am more than covered on that area. The price is good, the switch works well and without trouble, and I am looking forward to using less electricity with this switch over my previous one.All in all, a good device at a good price.

I ordered this for my home network. I've had it hooked up for over a month now not one problem at all. I had it drill some holes in to the bracket so I could mount it on the wall at and angle, which made it easy to see the indicator lights and provide a space to set my wireless modem. So far I have an Xbox360, two PC (only one gigabit), a blu ray player, and a wireless router with three laptops, an xbox and wireless printer, and like 10 wifi devices (phones kindles ipods ect). I checked the unit for heat and its cool to the touch, my wireless router gets hotter than this unit. Im happy with my purches.

Got it to extend the wireless across a 2 story house and it works like magic.Small light noiseless and easy to setupprovides very good speed and is transparent to NATting problemsThis is my second TPLink product and this brand is really good for the price you pay.

I have the power for the switch running through my home stereo amplifier, so the switch doesn't turn on until the amplifier does. I usually have to wait a bit (30 seconds?) for the various components to report that they have an internet connection. Aside from that it does it's job.

The switch is super simple. I just plugged it all in, and everything worked without any software configuration. The only suggestion I have is that, even though the "in" port has a box around it -- it would help if it said "in" above it.

I got this switch to split ethernet out to my tv, amp, and apple tv. All my cabling is "Gigabit" rated and, while I have not run extensive tests, everything seems to be working just right. Little (no) setup involved. Plug 'em in and go.

As advertised, plug and play right out of the box, simply the easiest installation involving removing plugs from the old switch and replugging to the TPLink.. Worked immediately and continues to provide flawless performance. Neat Compact black flat box 4 x 6 x 1 inch with 5 ethernet receptacles and the power plug.They don't get any easier than this.

No problems with this switch. I use this in a room where I have two different computers (a mac and a PC) plus a printer hanging off it. Those devices can now communicate with each other at 1GB which is awesome.

This 8 port Gigabit un-managed Switch has plenty of ports for future use around the house. Works as advertised and lights up which ports are active when there is a data draw from them. Lightweight and affordable. Great way to split up Ethernet around the house to multiple locations/devices.

This switch is drop-dead simple to use: Just plug this into the wall, plug one Ethernet cable in from your router (to any of the 5 ports!) and connect the rest of your devices to the other 4 Ethernet ports, and you're done. It just works! This switch gives me fast file-transfer speeds between the computers connected to it.

This is not as fast as my L brand Gigabit switch but almost. The throughput is about 600Mb as opposed to about 750-800 for the name brand switch. Still a good deal for the money if it lasts.

This is GREAT for splitting your internet line to multiple computers, especially if you have broadband or cable modem that's fast and don't want to have to connect over wifi. It's super fast, and takes NO configuration. You just plug it in and it works! Fantastic and highly recommended!

Plug it in and insert your cat5's and it works. All my gigabit runs are gigabit through this switch. My transfer speeds internally have been stable...this is a good switch.

There's not much to write about this. I connected everything, hid it out of sight and it just works. I have been monitoring it for temperature and it doesn't seem to be getting very hot. Cooler operation in electronics usually means longer life and I hope this will stay trouble free for years to come.

This TP-LINK 5-port gigabit Desktop Switch is practical and easy to set up. It is quiet, fanless, and works well without overheating. It also provides instant large file transferring. Not sure yet about the long term reliability of this product, but the cost is reasonable.

I was upgrading from an old 10/100 netgear switch. I do notice some speed increases and I like that this has power saving features. I went ahead and updated to cat6 cable too. Idk if it's a placebo effect but my whole wired home network seems quicker.
