I regularly get download speeds of around 15-20 MBp/s throughput from my 4G LTE modem over wifi. This makes this device more than capable for handling basic internet browsing, downloads, and acceptable for online multimedia viewing on my computers and wireless devices from Netflix and Hulu+.I've even used this router to stream music and video content from my Macbook to Apple TV via Airplay and Air Parrot without issue (as long as no other devices are using the Wifi - see below). 4G LTE ----> Router --wireless--> Laptop --wireless--> Router --wireless--> Apple TV is okay.As a personal or travel router, this device is unmatched at this price point, given its extremely light and compact size (can fit in palm and as light as a candy bar), and competitive price. It even runs off a portable USB battery charger (used to charge mobile accessories) to give wifi on the road.The BadThings start to go pear shaped when you want to use this router as a home router replacement or network hub.I connected a Synology NAS 413j to this device both through the 10/100T LAN port and wireless. Transfer speeds over LAN(ie. Laptop --wireless--> Router --Cat5e cable-> Synology NAS) to and from my Laptop were barely acceptable at around 2 Mbp/s.I gave up on the wireless as it was so slow (ie. Laptop --wireless--> Router --wireless-->NAS) at around 300 KBp/s.However, the biggest problem I have noticed, is that when more than 3 or 4 devices are wireless connected, or when there is a device connected to the LAN port of the router, the network becomes very unstable. My internet and network keeps on dropping out, and the speed between devices becomes unacceptably slow. This is evident when I try to stream multimedia TV and music contect over Plex Server from my Macbook or PC to iPad etc. When only two devices are using the Wifi (for Plex) its fine, but as soon as other devices are connected for internet browsing etc. speeds become intolerably slow and unstable.Advanced router features like port forwarding and uPnP are also hard to setup and not well implemented (couldn't get them to work with my Plex server or NAS file servers).I've upgraded to a wireless N 300Mbp/s (TP Link MR 3420) and these issues have gone, so my only conclusion is that the 150 Mbp/s wireless N and 10/100T LAN port, do not really support high bandwidth or advanced network usage (ie. media streaming or multiple online gaming clients).CONCLUSION:As a home network hub or home router replacement, the 150 Mbp/s wireless N and single 10/100T WAN/LAN port do not give adequate or reliable throughput. When several devices are wireless connected, the wireless signal slows down significantly and becomes very unstable (ie. dropped signals). Single device streaming over Airplay is adequate, but Plex Media streaming, or online gaming and media streaming when multiple devices are wirelessly connected is very slow.As a personal or travel router however - for which this unit I think was actually designed - to convert a 4G LTE modem or wired ethernet to Wifi, this router is fabulous. It gives fast throughput from 4G LTE to single connected devices, for web browsing, online media viewing and limited media streaming, at an unbeatable price.

Take a casual glance and you might think that this was an Apple Airport Express with slightly sharper edges. It was a good product all things considered, but it runs on the 802.11n standard, with a wireless data rate of 54 Mbps, whereas this TP-LINK N150 offers IEEE 802.11b/g/n, IEEE 802.3/3u protocols, and wireless data rates up to 150Mbps, along with 3G/4G access. In simple terms, the TP-LINK offers throughput equal to or up to almost three times faster than the Apple product... and and offers more bang for the buck, as they say.The TP-LINK TL-MR3020 3G/4G Wireless N150 Portable Router is one of a number of products bearing the N150 designation, but this one offers the ability to share a 3G/4G mobile connection, wherever 3G/4G coverage is available. It also serves as a WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) client router, which allows connection to designated 'hot spots' using a wireless connection. One example would be the wireless connections found in Starbucks and other coffee houses.This is a well-designed and solid little device, and it's easy to set up if you follow the simple instructions, which are thorough yet easy to follow. Following the PC directions (and the ones for the Mac are similar), I noted the default SSID and default password that were noted on the N150, then plugged the Ethernet cable into my network port. The N150 was plugged into the power outlet in the wall, then looked for the network name on my computer and entered the password. It was that simple, and I had network access.This TP-LINK Wireless N150 is true plug-and-play in the AP (access point) mode, and that's probably just where I'll leave it for general use. Checked it later with my MacBook Pro, my Kindle Fire HD and even with my Samsung Galaxy S III, and all worked just fine.For those wishing to get more out of this mini-router, it offers a variety of configurations. Here's a summary of how you can use it:? AP Mode (Default)This is the default plug and play Access Point mode, where the N150 is connected to your wired network and transforms the wired Internet access into wireless so that multiple devices can share the Internet. This default setting is good in a hotel, an office, and those places where only wired network is available. It's good for small business meetings where a temporary wireless network is needed.? Client Mode:The N150 is connected to another device via the Ethernet, and acts as an adapter to send and receive the wireless signal from your wireless network. For those wanting access to a smart TV, media player, or game console with an Ethernet port, you can use the it to make your devices Wi-Fi enabled, giving them access to your wireless network.? Repeater Mode:The N150 copies and reinforces the existing wireless signal to extend the coverage of the signal and the SSID & password don't change. Put it in a good mid-point and this mode can be useful in a large house, office, warehouse or other work spaces where the existing signal is weak.? Bridge Mode:The N150 borrows existing wireless Internet and broadcasts it using a separate network name (SSID) and password. The TP-Link TL-MR3020 is the third travel router I have used in the past year or so. I bought both the D-Link All-in-One Mobile Companion (DIR-505) and the D-Link SharePort Go Mobile Companion with Rechargeable Battery (DIR-506L). The TL-MR3020 is closer in function to the DIR-505 in that it requires external power. Both have a multiposition switch to select among various modes, both can let you create your own WiFi hotspot relaying a connection from another hotspot (such as at a hotel), both will convert an Ethernet drop to a WiFi hotspot. The DIR-505 has a built-in AC plug while the TL-MR3020 uses a USB power connection with a provided generic USB power supply. I was intrigued to note that the power cable TP-Link supplies is a "Y" style with two USB "B" plugs. This is usually seen for devices that may need more power than a single USB jack can provide.A feature the TL-MR3020 has that the DIR-505 does not is the ability to connect one of a select set of USB 3G/4G cellular modems and convert that into WiFi access. I was not able to test this mode - if this interests you, be sure to see if your modem is listed as compatible. On the other hand, the DIR-505 lets you connect a USB storage device and access media and files on that device from connected devices. This is something I have more need for, and I'm sorry to see it missing. More on this later.I like that TP-Link preconfigures the TL-MR3020 with WPA security and a unique password for the wireless - the default SSID and password is printed on a sticker. You can, once you log in, change it to whatever you want. You do have to know that you need to connect to 192.168.0.254, which is a bit unusual. The router administration interface is very detailed and has most of the features you'd expect in a midline router, though no "guest mode". The TL-MR3020 does support WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) and offers a pushbutton on the router to activate it.TP-Link recommends that you use the "Quick Setup" item in the router menu to configure the router for your environment. But I could not get this to work - one page asks you about cloning the MAC address of the connected computer - something that is of use in a router you're using at home, not for a travel router. But no matter what I picked here, as soon as I clicked Next, the wireless connection dropped. I tried this many times and with many combinations. You don't need this - just go to the Wireless tab and click Survey if you want to connect to another wireless connection (such as at a hotel) - this works. D-Link's "Setup Wizard" also fails to work, so it's a failure of both brands here. So just skip the Quick Setup and go to the Wireless tab.You will read a lot of reviews here about how wonderful it is to be able to install OpenWRT, a free, open-source software package, on the TL-MR3020. Yes, it is wonderful, and doing so would add the media server I want. I will be doing this, but I thought it would be better to review the product as the manufacturer ships it as many of you may not have the desire or the skills to install and configure OpenWRT.In operation, the TL-MR3020 worked fine. The WiFi signal was strong at any reasonable distance and I had no issues with performance. It is only a 2.4GHz router, though - no 5GHz available.If you are considering the TL-MR3020, also look at the TP-Link Portable Battery Powered 3G/3.75G Wireless N Router (TL-MR3040). This is very similar to the TL-MR3020 in router features, except that it doesn't come preconfigured as secure, doesn't support WPS and lacks a physical mode switch. The TL-MR3040 can run from battery or from a USB power supply. If I had to choose I'd take the TL-MR3040 for its battery capability - like the TL-MR3020 it can also run OpenWRT.And what about the competing D-Link products I mentioned above? While both work, I am disappointed that D-Link releases new hardware with minor improvements shortly after releasing the original model, and doesn't fix problems in the firmware. TP-Link seems more consumer-friendly to me, and the option of OpenWRT (not available for these D-Link models) means additional freedom.

I think that this is a terrific little router for its intended purpose, even without taking TP-LINK's very fair pricing into account. I should say that I have two other TP-LINK wireless routers and I like them both very much. One general comment not specific to this model is that I think the web interface for all of their devices is well-designed. I have a new Linksys E3200 (I think it's a 3200) and while I can find my way around, it seems very counter-intuitive to me, whereas the web interface TP-LINK uses seems much easier to use.Moving to this router:PROS:1) Amazingly small. This is one of those times when reading the dimensions and then holding it your hand are different things, though I think it's about the same size as an Apple Airlink. And the power supply is built in so no wall wart.2) I like the slider switch that lets you change how it functions, by offering several 'modes': I don't want to bog this down with user-manual-level details, but it will work as an access point if you have a non-wireless system; it will provide an access point on a system that already has a wireless router but where the current wireless router doesn't have enough range, by either plugging this into a wired port on your network, or using it as a repeater, picking up the wireless signal from the original router and retransmitting it; it will act as a wireless client if you have a device that has wired ethernet capability but no wireless capability.3) I find the range and speed to be quite good, given it's size. For instance, I use another, larger, TP-LINK router (acting as an access point) in one room in the house where I like to use a Nexus 7 wifi tablet, but where the signal from my main wireless router is too weak. I tried switching this out for the other and it works fine. The signal strength doesn't hold up as well as the other one, but then the other one has 3 antennas too!4) TP-LINK's tech support (though I haven't called on this one) is much better than you'd expect, given the low-end pricing of their devices.CONS (more precautions):1) Everyone says "try any device at home before you're on the road" and that's generally sound, though if you travel with a laptop then you can always just connect using a cable and fix things. However, if you travel with a wireless-only device then it's a good idea to make sure you understand the configuration you need (vis-a-vis things like DHCP) or you may get stuck on the road. (For example, many wifi devices won't let you configure your own IP address (laptops yet, but many mobile devices no) so make sure that's correct and that you know exactly how each mode works.2) I couldn't find the manual online by going to TP-LINK's website. I googled it, and it was on the website, but it looks as though TP-LINK hasn't updated some of their pages, and that's annoying, though this is (I think) a new product.3) The cable that comes with it is very short and that may work fine for you, but it may not.4) I almost hate to list this as a CON because of the intended use for this, but be aware that this is not a dual-band router (2.4 ghz only), and that the ethernet isn't gigabit, just 100M. If you're using mobile products (phones, tablets, etc) this won't matter. However, if you had, for instance, a laptop with a fast connection and say a smart phone, in a hotel, and the hotel provided a gigabit wired connection, if you connect this to that wired connection and use the laptop and phone wirelessly, you may get slower throughput, depending on what level of service the hotel has.All in all thought, I think that this is a great little device, and while the price as I type this at amazon is about $34, I've seen for in the $20's. I know that Apple's Airport Express will do more, but it's also $99 and I think this will do just as well for most people's mobile use needs, and at a great price.

"Just five more minutes," I told my daughter. "We'll be back online soon." I should have known better. These words led to an evening of frustration and wasted effort that I won't soon forget.Let's take a step back - I was excited to try a new router at home. The new TP-Link MR3020 has been waiting for me to hook it up for a little while, and tonight was the night. I waited until my family were mostly offline and unplugged the old Belkin that's served us for at least a couple years now. I carefully followed the directions on the TP-Link, and was at first delighted to see that on my laptop, I was immediately able to log into the new router wirelessly and I could see the Internet. A promising start.Sadly, that's as far as I got.I did notice that the signal was strong if you were in the same room with the router, but weak at the other end of the house. And it's not a big house. My old router (not a top of the line model, to be sure) puts out a strong signal across our whole house, and rarely drops much even with 4 to 6 devices accessing it.But back to the new one! It's just getting good. Next, I wanted to configure the router, to set its name and security settings. Go to this IP address, said the directions, and so to the IP address I went. Nothing. "Page Not Found." Try again. "Page Not Found."I didn't give up here - that's not my thing. I checked my laptop's settings, I made sure I could still see the Internet, I found the full manual on the cute little CD provided. I poked and prodded. Nothing wrong on my end. I tried other devices - my tablet, my wife's iPad, my daughter's laptop. None of them could even get on the new connection successfully at all. The "Searching for IP..." wheel nearly hypnotized me.Back on my laptop, I was able to eventually find and configure the router settings via a different method, through the Windows network control panel (not at all what the directions say to do). Progress! Not that it mattered. Even when attempting to connect to the new network I had created, none of the other machines could seal the deal. I was on the verge of reconfiguring the network settings for all the computers in the house when I realized - this has gotten too difficult.I've hooked up my share of routers, mind you - I'm no router virgin here. There are occasional headaches but usually it's a quick process of a few minutes to get the router going, and a little longer to fix the machines that are hooked up to it. This one? WAY too much effort, especially for a router that gave me a weaker signal and more trouble in the first hours than ANY other router I've used before.So three and a half hours after I told my daughter "just five more minutes," I pulled the plug on the TP-Link and plugged the old Belkin back in. And suddenly, we were online again - no muss, no fuss. Just for good measure, I accessed the Belkin router's configuration IP and changed the password - a success. I'll make my daughter do a chore or two to get it, I think.To be fair, I am probably not the ideal user for this router - where most want to use it as a travel router, I simply wanted a replacement/addition to my home router. And in that regard, it was an utter failure.Three words, before I leave you to your consideration: Not. Worth. It.

When I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised by just how small this router is. I have a Roku and I thought that was small, but this TP-LINK is even more minuscule. The shape is compact, with rounded corners reminiscent of Apple TV and Roku. How small? Fold a dollar bill in half. You could completely cover the TP-LINK with that folded dollar and have a quarter inch left over! The unusually small form factor means this can fit in your pocket or anywhere else, really!I ordered this product mainly for use on the road as a wireless access point (AP) when I go to training and industry conventions. (I don't intend to use it with a 3G/4G modem, since my phone and iPad are on a data plan). Anyone who has traveled knows hotel wifi is horrendously slow, almost to the point of unsuitability. Wifi is also sometimes an extra charge. Rooms usually have a wired connection free of charge, but that means being chained close to the desk and only one person can be connected at the same time. This is where a device like this TP-LINK comes in.Plug the ethernet cord into the back and set the mode selector to AP (access point), and then you're ready to share the WLAN with your family or colleagues. The AC adapter is interchangeable with any USB charger, making it an ideal travel companion because you'll have fewer adapters to bring with you. And if you lose the original adapter, you can simply use any USB charger. Or not at all.. since you can also power it from the USB port of your laptop. I'm writing this review on a MacBook Pro connected to the TP-LINK, powered with an iPad charger and a generic mini-USB cord as a matter of fact.It was plug and play -- nothing to install, though the product comes with a mini-CD. Just find the SSID (TP-LINK_POCKET + some random numbers) and enter the key. It's written on a sticker on the side of the unit, so you'll never lose it. (You can change it after connecting to it and logging into the control panel.) I connected my iPhone 4S to it from the far side of my room and it worked flawlessly.Speed is great.. I'm doing everything on my laptop that I would normally do.. uploading photos, surfing, etc. Of course, this will depend on your internet speed. I'm connected to my home Verizon FiOS connection (18 Mbps down, 5 up). If you're using this through a 3G/4G modem, you will have noticeably less speed.Reasonably priced and high quality, I recommend this little router for travel or even home use. TP-LINK also gets props for having no styrofoam or excessive packaging. The outer box is all paper. Aside from a few plastic bags containing the product and wires, there's nothing to throw out.

This is a very functional Wifi router that happens to also work with USB 3G/4G modems, if you happen to have one. From a cost perspective, buying this router and then purchasing the USB modem stick to use with it makes little financial sense, since for the combined cost one can get a device that accepts a SIM card and has a builtin lithium ion battery for portability. Alas, if you happen to already have an USB stick for 4G access, in all likelihood you can use it with this device. For 4G access I tested it with the Sierra Wireless Momentum 4G modem and it worked fine - the spotty 4G access is a function of the Sierra modem, not this router.One of the cooler features of the router is that it will make up an wifi access point out of *any* internet connection you hook it up to. So you can connect it via wired Ethernet to an Internet access terminal and it will share that as an wifi for you. You can configure the device as a repeater for wifi signal.One major drawback I see is that it requires a power source in form of a USB powered port - but TP Link also sells a model that has a replaceable LiIon battery and which is more portable. Minor drawbacks are related to the function/form of the device - the USB 4G modem sticks out like a sore thumb, so the neat little compact package is no longer so compact during its use. The other drawback is more of an annoyance and it has to do with the way the wall charger is designed. The US style prongs are positioned such that the wall charger, plus the USB cable you need to stick in it, will occupy an entire 6-port extension cable cord - or, in most cases, not fit behind the wall/under the table/on the desk lamp socket or wherever other cramped wall plugs one gets access to in hotels or lounges. So if you plan on using powered from the wall charger, budget purchasing a more compact and more sensibly designed 5.0V 1.0A wall charger to go with it.I did upgrade to the latest firmware and I had not observed any issues regarding stability or device compatibility with anything I tried it with - iPhones, iPads, Kindles all work great. It also helps that it keeps the upstream Internet connection active for cases where you have to accept the terms of use every time you connect - those can be an annoyance for small devices that go to sleep and disconnect from wifi in the process, and then attempt to rejoin on wakeup only to have to accept the usage terms again.... Using this as a repeater for those situations greatly cuts down on the aggravation.

I just got off the phone from TP-Link in China, and I really can't remember such friendly customer service over the phone from anyone anywhere, let alone a woman halfway around the world who has only spoken English for less than five years. So hats off to TP Link for hiring good people and really supporting their products.Got this router in the mail this morning, just wanted to use it as a home router first. Set it up quite easily on AP setting for one computer, but the other wouldn't work. Connected, but not to internet. Reset router and computers, tried the other computer, it worked but now the first didn't. Spent hours trying to figure it out on my own, doing ipconfigs, dhcp fun, etc. Finally gave up and called customer service.Annabelle explained that AP only works for one computer at a time (this should be in the manual, written clearly!). She then walked me very patiently through setting the router to 3G setting, using an ethernet cable to set up the router to the computer, and then plugging the router into the cable modem. Ping Ping! Both computers now work very quickly on wireless.This thing is crazy fast for its size, and its price. It feels well made, the switches are solid, the cables as well, and the packaging is nice and compact, protecting the tiny router well. For the money, this puppy is a straight up bargoon. As a simple router it is excellent, then add in the 3G/4G, piratebox capabilities and so much more, and it really is a great deal at less than 35 kung pao clams.And if I could give six stars for customer service, I would. It's available 24/7/365, and if the other reps are half as friendly and smart as Annabelle then they'll still be excellent. The number is 866-225-8139, and while most of the info you need is on the mini cd in the package, if you have any questions definitely give them a call and prepare for a lesson in how a customer should be treated. I would love service of that quality here in the USA, but very rarely get it. Annabelle was so patient, friendly and professional, and patient, and did I mention patient? Truly wonderful.So to TP-Link I say, good job and then some. A great product at a great price, and perfect customer service to boot. I'm sending this review to TP-Link, and I hope Annabelle gets the praise and the raise she deserves.This is how you get customers, and keep customers, and have them tell their friends about your company while buying more of your products.Well done, TP-Link and Annabelle!

I was initially surprised at just how small this wireless router is. It's only a few inches and therefore very easy to carry around with you.The TP-Link portable Router gives you a wealth of options from including a 3/4g router, WiFi bridge/access point, WDS repeater and you can put it in WISP mode to connect to a wireless ISP.The quick setup wizard is excellent and you'll be up and running with this device in no time, allowing you to share your connection with multiple devices. I have multiple wifi only devices (an ipad wifi only, a couple of kindle fires etc.) so being able to use multiple devices from a single connection is a must for me. Unfortunately when I travel I usually don't get to do this, now with this router I can share the internet connection at a hotel, airport etc. amongst all my devices which is great. Just plug it into the internet connection and connect my devices to it's wireless signal.You will find all the normal security options available that you would find on a standard home router (remember to change the presets and enter your own password) and everything is easy to setup.On the downside to this router, if you have a 3/4g card (like I have) then you can simply plug this in and share it's connection amongst your devices. Unfortunately it only supports a very few modem cards and my 4g LTE card isn't one of those supported. So if you are wanting to do this, check first to make sure your card is supported.One thing I did try was to hook up my phone to the router and see if I could share/tether my phones connection to this. Again unfortunately this did not work.I must also say that the packaging that it comes in is very nice, very apple-esque.Speed wise, I found that the connection speed varied with distance from the wireless router. It doesn't appear to have a very strong antenna in it. Close into the device I saw speeds of 40+Mbit/s but the further away I got I noticed that the speed dropped to around 4.5Mbit/s at about 30 feet.If you have multiple wifi only tablets, or want to share an internet connection amongst various devices or with friends whilst you are on the road, this device is excellent, and the price point is superb.I would highly recommend this portable wireless router with the caveat that if you want to use your 3/4g wireless card with it, check to make sure that it's compatible first.

This is a very good portable (but unfortunately not battery powered) router that will help with many different connectivity issues.It has several different modes, which then can also be configured in multiple ways. I'll try to summarize the main use scenarios, in case it might be helpful.1 - 3G/4G RouterThe main mode is the 3G/4G router. When I plugged in my T-Mobile data stick, it was recognized without any issues, and I was able to connect my laptop over the Ethernet port without any issues. It of course was also acting as a wireless router as well.It can also use a combination of 3G and Ethernet as a fail over configuration. For example, you can have it switch to cellular data when you regular cable internet fails.2 - Regular WiFi RouterOf course the device can act as a regular wireless router, sharing the Ethernet cable connection. Might come handy at hotels with only Wired connections, and when you do not want to carry a larger router.3 - Wireless ClientIt can work in the reverse direction, connecting your wired Ethernet devices to a wireless network. This might be handy to replace expensive WiFi dongles on older Xboxes, or connecting a VOIP box (which usually only has Ethernet ports).4 - Wifi - to - Wifi RouterThe device calls this mode "WISP". If you connect to your ISP via wireless, and then want to share this over your local WiFi, this might be helpful. In one occasion, we were staying at a guest house where we had WiFi at certain locations, and not everywhere. I had to use Windows 7's software AP as a repeater to provide Internet to rest of the area. If I had this device at that time, it would have been much easier.The form factor is really nice and tiny, and looks like a product from "a certain white computer manufacturer". The box comes with a small Ethernet cable, a wall charger, a USB charge cable, and a CDROM containing instruction manuals.The USB charging cable has twin heads (Which will be required if you want to use a 3G modem, and use a regular USB port instead of the charger). Otherwise a standard mini USB connection will be sufficient. The CD is essentially useless, but carries a manual for their next product in this series, which will have a built-in rechargeable battery. The wall charger is 1A, and as mentioned before, any regular 0.5A USB port pair, or most phone chargers would suffice.

The set up isn't difficult, a lot of accessories are provided, and it's very streamlined for travel use.Note that this version does not come with a battery - you have to plug it in to the wall for power, just like most routers.The device comes in a sturdy reusable squarish box. When I first ordered this I thought that I had made a mistake, because a MiFi wireless internet card is now about as ubiquitous and cheap as the USB stick kind of 3G/4G access points that this router is designed to work with. I stand by that logic, and think that anyone buying this solely to use with their USB stick would be better off upgrading to a MiFi device.The thing that I didn't realize until actually receiving the router and trying it out is that it does a lot more than just this one function of sharing a 3G/4G USB connection. By far the best feature of this router is the ability to plug it into a hotel or office wired Ethernet connection and convert the connection into Wifi so it can be accessed by tablets, Kindles, laptops, and anything else that you have that needs an internet connection. This is especially useful for devices that aren't very good at signing up for a hotel connection on their own. For example, my MotoActv running GPS is supposed to connect to the internet after each run, but the screen is too small to authenticate on a hotel's wireless network. With this TP-Link Router, I can sign up for the hotel's service using my tablet or laptop, and then all of my other devices are authenticated automatically.I used to bring an old Linksys router with me on longer work trips, to set up in the hotel room, in the exact some way as this router. That works great, but the size of the system only made doing that practical for longer trips. I would only do it on trips where I'd be staying in the same hotel for more than a couple of weeks. Now, with the portability, ease of set-up, and small size of this router, I'll be setting a wifi network up in my hotel room for even my shortest trips.This router worked well for me, and I recommend it highly. I'm very impressed with the size, speed & range of this thing. It's *almost* pocket sized, and setup at home took (literally) less than 30 seconds. The password is printed on the packaging for your convenience, the configuration would be a breeze even for a novice.But I didn't really need another router at home, and the range isn't quite as good as my existing Linksys. I got this for travel, and wish the company had been more forthcoming with the specs & functionality.I get 4G internet two ways - through my phone (Samsung Epic) and a Sprint Overdrive. I use a very inexpensive app (PDA-Net) to tether from my phone to my laptop, and thought this router would surely work with one or both of my 4G devices, to get a signal to my wife's laptop, to a tablet, etc.No on both counts. The list of compatible 3G/4G modems is VERY small. There is only ONE Sprint product on the list (U600 - never heard of it), and basically there is no way for me to use this as a 3G/4G router.Second, the functionality as a travel router is very limited. Yes this is extremely portable, but if your room already has a wi-fi signal, why would need it? If it does not have a wi-fi signal, you would need a direct ethernet hookup, which most hotels aren't doing any more. And, it will only work in your room (not the conference room, not the lobby, etc etc).So if you need a 3G/4G signal to your laptop, instead of buying a 3G/4G modem AND subscribing to a plan AND buying this device, consider buying the PDA-Net app for your Android phone or iPhone. The product boasts the ability to share a 3G/4G connection, but I didn't use it for that.There are hotels with wireless, but most of them seem to only have it in the lobby, and the rooms are wired, leaving your other toys hanging out to dry. I confess to taking my Kindle Fire along for most trips, in addition to my laptop, and I hate being tied to the one (usually short) ethernet cable in the hotel room. I vacationed in the Outerbanks last year and found the only network connection was at the end of a single 4' Ethernet cable. At a beach house. That's just plain *evil*.The router comes packed with a plug in USB power brick, a split mini to dual standard USB cable for power/pc connectivity, and a short ribbon style RJ45 Ethernet cable. It's clean and uncomplicated in style, with the default information (web user/password/IP address, MAC, router PIN) printed on labels for making the initial connection to the device. The status LEDs unfortunately have white-on-white indicators, making it a little difficult to see straight on, but they can be made out easily at an angle.This router is *tiny* and ran on the USB power output by my laptop and PC, or by the brick. There is a physical switch to swap between the three operating modes (3G/4G, Wireless AP, and WISP) and works well, sharing the wired or wireless ISP connection with all my B/G or N devices, or acting as a bridge/repeater. It was easy to set up, though it needed a reboot during the process while I sorted it out.This thing goes in my backpack when I travel for work now, and will be along for the next beach house rental. It makes networking on the road that much simpler.

This little guy was a life saver..... All of our WiFi in our house is towards the front of the house; all of our TV, Amazon On-Demand, Netflix, Computers, iPads, iTouch, Android Tablets, etc. are at the back of the house... so when it comes to a WiFi signal we are at the tail end of acceptable. I even placed an additional router up in the attic ans we still have marginal results... good enough to stream but not any real speed on peripheral devices.When this item came up on Vine I jumped on it like a hipster hopped up on Starbucks coffee snags up Quinoa at Whole Foods Market! OK that was a goofy analogy...The item arrived in a very nice boxy unit which was easy to open and kept the device and included cabling and power supply safe from harm. A glance at the unit and directions told me that I wanted to use the WISP setting to amplify an existing WiFi signal in the back of the house.Once plugged in and the unit discovered by the computer I logged in and took about 5 minutes to set-up the device (passwords, security, etc.). Once complete I placed the unit up high on a bookshelf bridging the gap between home office and den. The signal is extremely strong and 'clean' from this little device and I was easily able to use for a number of devices to make surfing and streaming substantially faster than before.This is a great little gem - perfect for the house or even hotel travel (turning a wired internet service (often free) to a wireless experience (which is what most hotel charge for these days). I have not yet used it on the road but anticipate a like experience.There is also the capability to use with a 3G/4G dongle but I do not use one so I cannot attest to this type of connection.

On the surface this product is a wonderful little router. A simple switch easily changes modes depending on the use case without having to hop into the control panel.I did successfully use the device as an access point, plugging its ethernet port into my network to create an instant wireless network. It just worked but you should be mindful that its IP address doesn't conflict with the rest of your networking when first hooking it up. It's set to 192.168.0.254 but can be configured for DHCP through its control panel.When the switch is set to 3G/4G mode it can work like other home routers and share a DSL or cable modem connection through its ethernet port to the wireless, or utilize a 3G/4G USB cellular modem for the shared broadband connection. It's then possible to share that cellular modem through the ethernet and Wifi.Unfortunately I could not get the TP-Link to work with my Pantech UML290 USB LTE modem from Verizon Wireless despite that modem being on the compatible list. I am running the latest firmware on the router and did test the USB modem on my computer prior to plugging it into the TP-Link. This is a disappointment.I do like that the router is powered by a single USB port. A 1 amp USB AC adapter is included or you could just plug the cable into your computer. It comes with a split USB cable should your PC not provide enough voltage through a single port.I really wish I could give this higher marks given the ease of switching modes. Be sure that this will be compatible with your USB modem prior to purchasing.

I had ordered a Medialink wifi router just a week before I got this as a part of Amazon vine.Now, I regret that I had to order the bulky expensive router while this mini gadget is working wonderfully. To begin with, I had low expectations about this device since I had a bad experience with a Linksys portable router which I had bought 5 years back. In order to be 100% sure that this router was as good as the medialink router I did a couple of tests(1) Connect 2 laptops to the wifi router(2) Connected 2 iphones to the wifie router(3) Tested download and upload speeds from a 10' distance(4) Tested download and upload speeds from a 20' distance across 3 wallsWhat I noticed is that there was practically no difference in the speed or performance between the medialink wifi router and this mini wonder.The only caveat is that this one does not have any additional LAN/Ethernet/RJ-45 ports if you want to connect a vonage/ooma or any other IP Phone.But the biggest Plus point of this router is that this one has 3G connector which means you can connect your 3G dongle and get wifi anywhere including your car.The Power plug for this router is designed in a way that it can be plugged into your car adapter (via USB)Overall - a very versatile (3G + LAN), compact router which can beat any expensive router in price and performance.

The TP-LINK TL-MR3020 3G/4G Wireless N150 Portable Router I received from the Amazon Vine review program is a great device. When I recently did some travel for a class I was taking, I was in a hotel that offered both wireless and wired connectivity. As in many cases, the wireless connectivity was spotty and eratic, and it was difficult to stay connected for any length of time. I decided to plug this device into the wired connection, and life was great...The setup of the router is painfully simple. Just plug it in and you'll see the wireless signal. If I needed to, I could have easily gone into the menus and set a password to the router to make sure I kept my work isolated. I don't have a 3G modem, so I couldn't test that out, but for what I needed, the ability to extend the wired signal to a wireless hotspot for my room (and the multiple iType devices I was using) was perfect.I'd recommend spending a few dollars and buying a short ethernet cable in case the hotel doesn't supply one. I have to say I have been SO disappointed in my new laptop - the darned thing is supposed to be top notch, but doesn't even get a signal in my bedroom, whereas I never had a problem with my older computer. But enter the TP-LINK TL MR3020 3G/4G Wireless N150 Portable Router, Pocket Design 2.4Ghz ... It has been amazing at picking up the signal from our den and providing me with an uninterrupted signal 24/7! I couldn't be happier with this little gadget, and it is really much smaller than I expected! About the width of a cell phone, and double the depth, but 1/2 the height, and much lighter... it's very, very compact and portable! There are 3 parts - the cord, the plug, and the actual router - easy to break down; it's plug and play in mere seconds! Which is great because I'm getting ready to go away on business, and the TP-Link is definitely going with me! I kept the packaging for traveling! The type of gadget that works well for me - I don't have to do a thing, and I don't have to understand how it works or read any instructions! Purchased this modem to work with an embedded device that requires Ethernet. Had had success with a Cradlepoint modem in the past and thought I would give this a go since the USB760 modem from Truconnect appeared on the "other" list on the TP-link site and the price was good.Truconnect is not an option in the TP-link settings for the USA region but the carrier they use (Sprint) is so I tried that. Unfortunately although the modem was recognized it did not connect so I contacted TP-link support.They got back to me pretty fast but with bad news. Basically - see the answer below. The price difference between the two models is less than $20 on Amazon.com.Selecting the right one depends on your application.If you need to share a mobile broadband signal (by connecting a 3G/4G modem to the router's USB port) among a notebook computer that has at least one free USB port and several wireless devices (tablets, smartphones, ipods, etc.), you can buy the cheaper TL-MR3020 and use a mini USB to USB cable to power it from the notebook computer. A very easy to use compact portable router for travel. A hot spot can be easily established when a 3G/4G USB modem is connected to the router. I haven't documented this in trial, but the advertised wireless N speed operates up to 150Mbps with administrator control over how much bandwidth can be allotted to each device.The security setup was a piece of cake. By pressing the WPS button a WPA2 secure connection is established which is both faster and more secure than WEP encryptions plus you won't need to use a password.When I travel, I like to take my Kindle Fire for email, Web browsing and reading because the small size fits with my minimalist travel style. The TP-Link 3G/4G Portable Wireless N Router configures so easily the setup was a dream. I just attached the hotel's Ethernet cable to the router and the mini USB cable from the router to my Kindle Fire. If for any reason you need a non-standard configuration or need to upgrade firmware (for example, your existing device doesn't support 4G sharing), their excellent support team is ready to walk you through the setup.For the money, this little gem does a lot.

i travel a lot. Finding myself in places and hotels that do not provide wireless internet connections. This router makes it very easy to share the wired internet access with my many devices ( a kindle fire HD,laptop and two smart phones). I always take advantage of the internet i am paying for in hotels to update all my software and apps, which at times cam be a lot. Lack of wireless connectivity was a major problem before i got this. With the TP link i can connect all my devices and update all my apps and software. I can stay in touch by e-mail facebook and twitter. Very handy.I must also point out the great USB power mode it has. I used to have a router that needed to be plugged into a power source. At times the power source was a bit far from the internet cable. having the USB power mode solves this challenge. great device highly recommended.This can be used with a usb modem, which becomes very important for people who travel overseas a lot, especially to the Middle East and Africa where at times the only internet available is via USB modem devices.

This TP-Link Portable 3g?3.75G IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b Wireless N Router ( TL-MR3020) ( Sorry, the product link did not work ) is a great travel router. I had a chance to try this out in Arizona, our home is in Idaho and normally when we go down there, I have a hard time getting connected at my father's place. This time, the TP-Link Router worked like a charm, with just a plug in, which enabled me to get the WiFi. It does take a little time to set up password etc etc, because the instructions with this set up were minimal, which is why I gave it a four star instead of a five. It sets up as a router for 3G but also can be configured to just be a standard router for several devices in your home.This router is small and lightweight, especially great when you are traveling. I had considered taking my old Linkseys router with me on long trips, but that is only good if you stay in one place. This router is easy to take along and one of the good features is that it has the ability to plug into a hotel ethernet connection, which then converts into WiFi, so you can use it with your tablet.This worked quite well for me and I do recommend it. If you have a problem with the passwords, tech support is only too happy to help you out!

I travel a lot and hate it when I come across a hotel that doesn't have WIFI, but only offers a wired connection in the room. While this is fine for connecting a business laptop, it does me NO good for my iPad. This is where having the MR3020 comes in handy. When I get to the room, I but the unit in AP mode and plug it into the hard-wire connection. A couple minutes later, the unit pulls an IP address and my iPad is able to connect to it. The hotel login then comes up on the screen and I'm now able to utilize the hotel connection wirelessly.To me, that makes this unit worth it's weight in gold. I not only connect my iPad to it, but it also supports up to 10 devices so my iPhone and my laptop connect to it at the same time as well.The unit has the ability to share a cellular hotspot signal as well, however it requires a USB aircard connection. While this may work for some corporate travelers who are issued a USB aircard, many providers are now offering self-contained aircard hotspots that make the functionality of this device less necessary.All in all, it's great for me and my uses in hotel travels, but I haven't found a need to utilize the USB aircard sharing feature and I think as technology progresses it will be a feature that will be obsolete shortly.

I purchased this unit about 2 weeks ago and has not been able to get the unit to stay up for longer than 1-2 hrs average and occasions just for a few mins. The unit completely locks up and the only way to reset it is to unplug and plug in the power. The unit came with the latest firmware according to the TP-LINK website. I used the ethernet port for WAN and wanted the WISP feature in case I needed it. I did not use the 3G/4G port at all. I have quite a bit of experience working with routers. This is one of the most unreliable routers I have come across. The reviews on Amazon were pretty positive. So maybe I just have a bad apple. I do not like to give negative reviews. But this is a just a warning to anyone that this may not work as advertised. I really had high expectations and hope that a firmware update will fix the problem. I have also reported this to TP LINK tech support.3/6/2013I have since spoken with tech support and the issue was WMM under Wireless advanced which needs to be disabled. The unit have stayed up for over a day now. I am upgrading my ratings which also accounted for excellent customer service.

This product is a miracle of miniaturization. I was amazed how small it is, and how many functions it offers.Unfortunately, it seems impossible even to get through the configuration process without it crashing or stopping response for a minute at a time. I was unable to get it working after half an hour, and I am a computer expert. I spent most of this time simply waiting for the device to respond or rebooting it after it stop responding entirely. I tried using both the quick setup, which did not work, and the detailed set up, which exhibited these bugs.I have gone to their website, and at least some of the problems are really basic things -- the router does not work as described in the accompanying instructions. This product was simply not ready to ship when they shipped it.By the way, the documentation and on-screen menus clearly assume that you are technically knowledgeable about computer networking. If you're not, you will never be happy with this product unless an expert sets it up for you.I was really impressed by the range of features listed in the documentation. I only wish that they had finished the built-in software (firmware) so that it worked as described.

I want to say up front that I am a novice when it comes to knowing how to setup a WI-FI router. I had to have a computer technician set my current router. So why did I get this router? I want it for when I travel.The first thing I noticed was how small it is. This is helpful since it won't take up much space in my luggage. The next thing I did was read the provided instructions and then the ones on the TP-Link web site. Have you ever tried to put together a child's toy or an intricate book case and get flustered with all of the put tab A in slot B-1 instructions? Or get overwhelmed when you saw 50 - 100 pieces laying on the floor? Well that's how I felt. There was so much information that I got overwhelmed. So if you are a novice, I suggest you go to your local user's group or to a computer store tech to get some advise on how to set it up.All in all, it is a nice little router that should suit your online needs. It will be especially helpful when on vacation if you stay at a hotel with only an Ethernet plug - no WI-FI. Simply plug it into the wall and start using WI-FI on your laptop or tablet.

I selected this router because of its size. I wanted a small portable router to use on trips and that could also serve as an emergency backup in case of a failure of my home network router. I have not been to a motel or hotel that did not have Wi-fi provided in the rooms, so I have not had a use for that purpose.I did however set this unit up at home to test it as a router for my home network, using a direct ethernet hookup. It was very easy and quick to set up. It does not, however, have the range that my old Linksys router or its replacement, a new NETGEAR - Wireless-N Router. To be fair, when I am in the same room ( as I would be at a motel ) with the TP-LINK TL-MR3020 router I could not tell any difference between the more expensive NETGEAR Router and this unit. I will keep it in the glove box when I travel, just in case, and I know it can keep me connected to the internet until I can obtain a replacement, if my home router fails.

Everyone is raving about how great this little portable router is, but nobody really mentions what you need to make it work.You need:An Ethernet port with active internet.A power source.A computer with the software installed.--------------------------------------You can use a wall adapter as a power source as well, but you really need to plug this into a laptop and into an Ethernet port for it to work. It can then broadcast a wifi or 3G/4G signal. If you need to power a tablet, this is great.Here is when it wouldn't be useful: if you have no Ethernet port or if you do not have a computer with the software. I have T-Mobile, so my Samsung Galaxy S can bee rooted to use as a wifi hotpoint. For free. So if I don't want to lug around a laptop plus my tablet, I can go that route. But if you have Verizon or ATT (which don't play nice with rooting your phones) then this is a great device if you don't have wifi or 3G/4G for your tablets.I recommend it, but just make sure you need it. If you travel frequently, then it's a good thing to have. Especially if your hotel charges ridiculous wifi usage rates. Pirate internet ahoy!

Works great with both AT&T USBConnect Momentum 4G and 900 3G, has more features than my aging D-Link DGL 4500. Setup is a breeze and runs like a champ.Small and compact, I was impressed by how much it can do with such a small package size.Speed is good, I'm using it to provide internet to the WLAN side of my home router and have no problems with 4+ computers using the internet at once.Had trouble getting it to work properly in bridge mode with my existing AP/SSID, so I'm leaving that feature off till it is fixed in a future FW update.Recognizing and connecting to the USB modem takes about 5 minutes, somewhat longer than I would like, but I don't power mine off very often.All-in-all, this is a great little router for it's features and the price point. If you use a 3G/4G USB modem frequently, I would recommend picking one up as it gives you a lot more freedom.

As a long-time IT person, it usually takes quite a bit to surprise me, but this handy lil box left me speechless at first. Not only does it set up as a router for 3G (say that wireless aircard I still have lurking for trips to locals without hotspots), but also can be configured to be a standard router to handle up to 10 devices in a home or small office, and can be used to convert a single cat 5 connection in a hotel into a multi-room or suite router (handy if you have co-workers or family members in the adjacent rooms too!) Very nifty, I am impressed. Currently this router is attached to a cat 5 cable in a room that was otherwise a wifi deadspot in my multi-level home. It now allows me to use wifi in that room and cut the phsyical tether to the network for my devices.Further investigation about this device indicates it can also be used to set up a NAS, network attached storage, with some extra configuration. I have not tried this aspect yet but from the accounts I have read this should suit my needs there, as well.Highly recommend - 5 stars in each and every category.

This product is a perfect match with TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 Dual Band Wireless N900 PCI Express Adapter,2.4GHz 450Mbps/5Ghz 450Mbps, IEEE 802.1a/b/g/n,WEP, WPA/WPA2 (see my review of TP-LINK TL-WDN4800). I set it up as "AP Mode - Access Point Mode" (note in AP mode, the router can support 4 types of sub-mode: access point mode, repeater mode, bridge with AP mode, and client mode). I do not use it as 3G/4G router.When I connect this product with TP-link, 12 feet away with no barrier (wall, ceiling, etc.), I can achieve wireless speed as high as 150MB. That is VERY HIGH for wireless. This is the good point.The main drawback is it is hard to change the configuration, e.g.: change the default SSID, change wireless password, and disable the DHCP server. The manual says you have to connect to 192.168.0.254. It is not possible for me because my network is 192.168.1.1-based. But once you solve the puzzle, everything is working. That's the reason I give only 3 stars.

I'll leave the geeky specs to the tech blogs but here is my use and experience with the TL-MR3020 router.* Simple setup - connected to laptop and protected in about 15 minutes, probably could have done it in 5 but that's my fault.* Connected wireless stick modem to the router and had instant hotspot that connected 2 laptops, my i-touch and my wife's phone.I do a lot of work out in the field and a wireless stick is usually fine for myself but when you have a small crew, or are having an impromptu meeting not near a reliable hotspot this device gets you going. It is small enough to be in your laptop bag or carry-on since it is only about the size of a pack of cigarettes, which makes it easy enough for having it handy when you need it.Great if you work in the field, travel to odd areas, or the most issue...horrible hotel internet access.I work in IT but this is some mystery device that you'll need to be calling the other side of the world for in order to get working. This is a simple out of the box and go item.

This Router works great. I haven't had any real problems with it and so far, I am very satisfied with this item.So far, I've only used the router in one location. The Internet at my work is wired, unfortunately, and so bringing my laptop in to work with is a pain. There's no "easy" switch with our computer systems, unfortunately. This router works perfectly to plug in to the one available Ethernet cable in the office and get wireless wherever necessary. It worked almost instantly and hasn't given me any issues.The one slight hiccup that I ran into was the fact that the instructions were a little vague. I kept running into a roadblock around step 3, but it seems like that was primarily due to the fact that it only included step 3 instructions for PCs (but I'm using a MacBook Pro). It was only after several minutes of frustrated attempts that I realized that it didn't require that step and the solution lay elsewhere. Once I came to this conclusion, it was up and running in moments.This is a great and useful tool. It will come in handy for a long time to come.

I travel a lot and usually take my iPad or iPad mini with me and my husband takes his laptop and network card. This is not a problem when wireless is available free, but it is a pain when wireless is not available or I am getting smacked for wireless or wired access for one device. Used with my husband's card, I get wireless on my pad and it doesn't cost a dime. In fact, I could attach a max of ten device through the TP-Link if i wanted to. Easy to use, this is a wonderful compact little device that takes up little space and be used in a variety of configurations to get a wireless connection.You can also use this to eliminate the wire completely, replace another router, or as in my case override my Apple Airport.My husband has used this to override the wire he uses in his home office and claims that the connection he gets via the TP-Link is stronger.This didn't occur to me,but another reviewer said they are using this for their Roomba. I'm going to try this and will report on my results.Very clever device given the reasonable price.

This little beauty is a well-made router. By connecting a 3G/4G USB modem to the router, a 3G/4G Wi-Fi hotspot is instantly established. Unfortunately, I was looking to be able to use my netbook in my home wirelessly. Although I purchased a "Wi-Fi Networking for Dummies" book and read a lot of material on the internet. my Verizon DSL is not wi-fi capable. IF it is, I surely am doing something wrong. This is a learning experience for me. What I can do with this and my Westel Router (Verizon supplied) is use it as a 'repeater' for distant locations in my home. I can use it in place of the D-Link wireless usb connection to the internet on my laptop. And... I can continue to experiment and learn about 3G, 4G, and Wi-Fi. This is a very attractive device! I suppose if I traveled, I could use it to establish a wireless connection in a hotel room. I plan to update this review from time-to-time to provide more information.

Right out of the box, you can tell that this thing is made for travel. It is super light and very small, and while that is great in your suitcase, it does mean that you need to be cautious with it (but isn't that the case with any electronic device?).I am fairly competent with set-up but this was not as easy as plug-and-play. It took a little figuring it and messing around, but all in all, it really wasn't too difficult to get working. I tried it with a 3G stick and a wall port and found that both worked very well. I was able to get a solid, speedy signal that was just as good as my day to day router. The TP-LINK is not as powerful as my daily router, though. If I went around a corner with my laptop or tablet I lost most of the signal, but that's no big deal, since this isn't designed to service a house.I tried this out with 2 laptops, an iPad and several iPhones and never had a problem connecting or using.

This router is perfect.Other items in the box include a USB wall plug, Ethernet cable and a double-ended USB cable. One minor annoyance, this uses a "mini USB" plug and EVERYTHING else I own uses a micro-USB (Android Phones, Kindle, etc).

I was excited to get this product when I read the reviews - I thought it would help me create a wireless hot spot when I travel by using the 3G/4G capability of my phone - I was wrong or I was just not tech savvy enough to get it to work that way. Other than that, the router is simple to use and very small, easy to travel with. it is easy to use/set up (plug and play is the best way to describe it).going back to look at other reviews, it seems I may not have been using the product properly and will take it for another spin on my next trip and will come back t update my review. as a portable router or something to use in small spaces this is a great alternative to the larger bulkier ones we have had in the past.

After I received this compact router, I had a chance to use it in one of my trips. Believe it or not, there are still hotels in the US that provide on wired connection. Wireless connection comes with an extra fee, so this router really comes in handy. This is the way you can have a wireless connection and can sit in bed to work on your laptop. Since I don't have a 3g/4g USB modem, I need to borrow one to test. Set up is simple and I got it online and running in less than 10 minutes.If you share a connection in one small to medium size room then it works just fine. Move to another room, like the hotel bathroom where there is a wall, then the signal drops. Not disconnecting you, but slow down significantly until you come back to line of sight. I watched a Netflix movie on my iPad without any issues. It is a handy device and will be in my luggage when I travel.

If you've been spoiled by Apple's wireless router products, as I have, then you'll find the web-based configuration of the TP-LINK TL-MR clunky and not particularly intuitive.However, once it's been set up, it's pretty slick. I tried it as it own router, plugged into an Ethernet modem, and it fed out IPs with no troubles. I then set it up as a repeater, boosting the range of another wireless modem, and it handled that task well, too.The downfall of this little is range. You get more than 20 feet away and the signal strength starts to drop. Through walls, it's even worse. BUT, if you're using this little guy while traveling, those minuses quickly turn to pluses: no worries about other folks in your hotel trying to connect! ;-)Limited range aside, this is a solid little router and it'll stay in my laptop's bag; ready for travel.

This TP-Link wireless router works really well. It includes a USB port for a 3G or 4G wireless card which is a great option. At the same time you can connect a number of devices from what would normally just run on one laptop and share the connection.There is also a mode for connecting with a WAN. A really cool mode is the AP mode, in which the device acts as a normal wireless router that you can plug into a LAN. Beside it being small and compact, the device's form factor makes this perfect for setting up rogue access points. Overall it's very easy to pack way for trips and the distance of use is at least over 150 feet, not sure of the total distance, but suffice to say it's well worth the cost. Works well through walls of the house without any complication so far. Recommended.

The TP-LINK Portable 3G/3.75G IEEE 802.11n, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b Wireless N Router (TL-MR3020) is a very, very, VERY small device that packs a lot of wallop in a tiny footprint. Mainly used as a 3G/4G router for travel, this also has the ability to be a main wireless router for a home. This is exactly how I set this up, and I finally got it working but it was a painful experience that resulted in numerous phone calls to technical support and just about giving up.When finally I was able to get this working the result was a fast, efficient wireless router that was a serious upgrade from my old router that was too much in size, antiquated to say the least.If you need a wireless option to get 802.11 ability with your 3G/4G network, this absolutely does the job. If you want a home router this works as well, but be prepared to use some choice words while getting things up and running.**** RECOMMENDED

Though Verizon USB760 3G modem is listed as compatible it does not work even with the latest firmware. Switching from default configuration to manual advanced settings does not help either.Technical support is not able to provide any meaningful assistance.One example of the general sloppiness are the setup instructions that refer to a pin number that was supposed to be on the device label. It is not there and here is the quote from TP-Link's website (faqid 302):"For some reason, some devices (E.g. TP-LINK TL-MR3020) don't provide the PIN Code on the product label. In this case, please select method 1 to connect to the unsecured network first..."Quite interesting when the manufacturer of the product does not know why the labeling is incomplete...(Tip: default UserId/Password are admin/admin - just in case you are trying to find this information in documentation)

Recently I took a trip to Europe, and this came in very handy. This little portable router worked perfectly, with the setup minimal. It is an excellent size for people who travel.The hotel I was at only had the wired connection in the room, So I plugged cable into this router in the Access Point mode, which in turn sends out wi-fi signals that my lap top picked up. I had internet access in a matter of minutes. I was able to check my emails, etc. in my room.This TP-Link router worked just as advertised, and provides excellent support for 3G/4G modems. . Plug in the required cables, setup was almost automatic, and instant wi-fi connection to the Internet. The price is great too.
