Finally, exactly what I was looking for. Couldn't understand why consumers with good eye-sight want these huge devices. Enjoying using Sony's UI. They've been very good on updates. Just got KitKat a week ago, & just received update from Sony to fix bugs on this device from that update. "Sony is on it!" regarding support for this device, so far. Camera is okay; dedicated camera button is VERY convenient, u can open camera app by holding button anytime, and it's fast to respond. Dropped from 3-4ft & got a little ding on side; it has a solid quality feel. It comes with this ASF on front&back that is another complete discussion; I'm leaving mine on for now since it's still new to me. Been underwater w/video 1.5ft in kiddie-pool w/kids; no issue other than it takes 1-2minutes to get water out of speaker & mic for clear audio after being submerged. Software is nice and haven't had a reason to root, yet? Still learning device. The camera software is particularly interesting; a lot to offer. External speaker rating: Poor; seems as if there is 1 small speaker on bottom left; u can actually cover it up (while holding it) & hear nothing, but it's 'alright' loud just not impressive. Main Reason For Purchase was it's the only 2GB RAM, QuadCore, +5MP, phone out that's comfortable to hold. I've been happy with this purchase! Oh, on Tmobile prepaid w/ LTE, no problems.

I bought this to replace my Samsung Galaxy Y, which is not a bad phone but I kept running out of space on the actual phone. Even putting a 32gb sd card didn't help. It only has 128mb on the phone. Also the old phone had such a small screen that some things got cut off. Enough about my old phone. This new phone, this Sony phone, is great. Although does have some minor things that might get on my nerves. The main issue is that when you send texts and I automatically get a reply about message being relayed. Which was not an issue on the old phone but when doing a google on it. I found some black berries also having that issue with the same phone service that I have. it sounds like that is not something you can change at least nothing I can find says how to change that. I don't mind it being relayed I just don't want to be notified. Another issue is email notifications do not always work. I mean email works it just does not always seem to notify you. The gmail notifications do work. I did a google on that one as well and actually found some one talking about sony xperia but not this one, an older one. I am not sure which one he was talking about but he had this same issue and could not find a fix for it. He also suggested getting the Samsung Galaxy S3. I would get one of those but they are a lot more money then this phone.
Any way I do like this phone even with the minor issues listed above. Oh wait I just remembered another issue that is not a major one either. This new phone does not work with my FM transmitter. I have no idea why either as it uses a standard head phone jack to connect to the phone. Any way again I do like the phone and I like that things are not cut off and I am not longer running out of room on the phone.
Update to this review. I now give it 3 stars instead of 4. Main reason. Some times it will lock up and you have to remove the battery as none of the buttons work to get it to come back on correctly. It is a pain to remove the battery as well. Another issue is when the phone restarts either after pulling the battery or just restarting it. The phone comes back on and starts making random sounds. This is not my rington nor does it stop after a while. The first time it did this the thing made random sounds for almost an hour. I was on the other phone so could not pull my attention to trying to get it to stop instead I just covered it until I was off the other phone. I can stop it by swiping from the top to the bottom and hitting clear even if there is nothing to clear. This stops it. I have yet to figure out what causes this or why.

So far, I'm very pleased with the phone. I just wished it wasn't sooo unconfortable to unblock the phone (something you do a zillion times per day)- by pressing a super tiny button on the side of the phone. I guess once that little button breaks, I'll be screwed...

The phone is fine if you have minimal use, but if you plan on using more than 3 downloaded apps, you'll run into trouble with the limited memory. It maxes out at 700MB of internal memory and some apps can't be moved to an SD card. On the other hand, it is unblocked and works well if you do pay as you go in several countries (I can only speak for the American continent).

Not only isn't the wifi not working in most cases (known Problem, without a solution until this day: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Z1s/xperia-z1-wifi-issue/td-p/388421/page/1), nope the display is another joke on its own.
Used to be excited regarding the the speed of the phone and the quality of the camera. Yet after i found out about the problems regarding the wifi I also encountered reports regarding problems with the display, yet i dismissed them as user errors.
But reality is that this POS glass layer around my phone just broke while I had it in my side pocket while driving, which ultmately renders it useless.
Thank u sony for an incredibly not so highend phone, which leaves me with yet another ugly Samsung, which are at least worth the money.
No more Sony.

Not water proof! It says it is, but I can confirm it's not (see picture). I did put it through the paces and actually took it in the water, but nothing out side it's advertised capability. This phone is a good phone, but I don't like companies who advertise something they don't back up. I contacted Sony and they told me that water damage was not covered under the warranty. So now I have a bricked phone that I used according to how the company intended it to be used and there's nothing I can do about it. Thanks Sony.

I actually love this mid range Sony phone . It got the specs and quality I imagine . The feeling and size is perfect!
I order the wrong LTE model which is c5303 works for international. And I have contact the seller to exchange and they respond quickly ! Needed to exchange for the c5306 model that's works in the USA which is T-Mobile LTE frequency. No problem with the seller what so ever. Its not there fault, I totally for got about the frequency myself. Great phone for the price and great customer service now I'm waiting for my phone to come in next week. Happy with this phone , i recommend this phone to anyone that on a budget and want a mid range phone. Thanks !

I really really really want to like this device. When it worked, I very much enjoyed it. The main problem is that it was defective out of the box and the seller (WorldWide Distributors) refuses to take back any device that's been taken out of the box). To reproduce the fatal problem perform the following:
1. Power on the device
2. swipe to login
3. swipe down from the top
4. select quick settings
5. toggle wifi on or off
6. press the power button to shut off the screen
within 30 seconds, device reboots and keeps rebooting until the battery is dead.
I applied factory reset, I reflashed the image via Sony PC Companion Software. No change.
I see quite a few other users with this problem.

I have a Nexus 5 and I really love it, but I have been looking for a change. I hate this trend of making high end smart phones giants. Ill admit that the 5in screen size makes reading small text in games and dealing with emails easier, but it is not an ideal size for holding. The small size is wonderful to hold and the phone feels great in hand not HTC One great, With clean lines surrounding the two beautiful slabs of glass. I wish they would have pushed the screen size up a bit the borders are kinda large, its just a waste of space, when other phones on the market are smaller with similar specs. The color was my only concern when buying this device. Its stated as Lime but in all photos I have viewed its just yellow. I think Sony is confused on what color lime is, when held in certain indirect light you can see the green in the paint. If you do not want a yellow phone get the white model. I enjoy the color more than i thought that I would, its great to look at and i find myself placing the phone on its screen more than i would with any thing i own, just to see the back.

I bought two of these phones, I for my husband, the other for myself. Mine lasted two months, my husband's didn't go beyond 3 weeks. They both won't charge. Please don't buy this phone.

It's an ok phone but the phone starts to have charging issues after 6 months. I got one in July 2013 and it had charging issues April 2014. Got a manufacturer replacement deal and it's December 2014 and I'm experiencing the same issues. I would not recommend this phone if you plan on using the phone more than 6 months... By the 7th month the phone starts acting up.

I've gone through 4 smartphones in the past year- all the others went the way of craigslist in the first few months.
I travel too much to bother with a cell phone contract and just do pay-as-you-go, but I need a full featured android which fits the bill of "iphone slayer" while fitting in my pocket and having the battery life for a transatlantic flight.. and waterproof. can't forget that. This is the first of the lot that has met all my requirements and after 2 months I'm loving it.
The only downsides I've seen are
A) the waterproof door covers don't convince me that they will continue sealing 100% after a year of opening and closing to charge every night. I plan to get around this through buying an external Sony Docking Station which won't require the door to be opened.
B) lack of 3rd party accessories- this phone hasn't caught on in the US, and I'm not even sure if it would be available on contract there, so the 3rd party accessories like the Lifeproof Case, etc. aren't there

The phone is great, even with Android 4.3 it's as good as my old Nexus 5.
4.4 KitKat upgrade should be within the next month but I don't think it's even really needed.
I use Apex Launcher so can't speak to Sony's customization other than the mail client which is excellent. They've implemented something I thought was missing in the stock Android mail client in swiping to move an email instead of only being able to delete it.
The camera is by far one of the best I've ever used on a phone. Low light photos are consistently better than on coworkers phones probably due to the larger sensor and ability to collect more light with a shorter exposure.

I did take away one star due to the glass that is used to make the front and rear of the device. It is the most easily scratched glass I've ever seen used on a mobile device. If you get one make sure to order your screen protector IMMEDIATELY so you can have it on the device as soon as it comes out of the box.
Another small gripe is that the device is designed such that it attracts a lot of dust, you can wash it off though since it's waterproof.
Highly recommended.

I got the unlocked version for $500. Been using it for several months now. I experienced several strange lock-up's, but other than that it seems to be working good! Battery capacity is good. I am Impressed with the resolution of the screen! A little disappointed at the camera at 20.7 MP (I keep mines at 8MP). The unit runs cool during use and charging, Impressive battery capacity and very bright screen if you need to use it outside.
I regret not getting the "Regular" sized Z1. The Z1 C (compact) version keyboard is a little hard to use with my fat finger. A bit pricey, but it's a great phone! Very rugged construction.
The Compact version uses micro SIM and I am using it with T-Mobile service.

The phone has a very sub par camera which was something i was told ahead of time but i didnt actually think it would be as bad as it ended up being. the low memory makes this phone already lower end, but with the bad touch screen feedback and trouble i also had with connecting to the t mobile towers despite the phone being unlocked, i had to return this product. I would not recommend unless you dont plan on taking any pictures, or downloading more than three or four apps. that is assuming the problem i had with the connection was unique to me.

Great cellphone. I'm not the kind of person who throws away money every year to get the last new and best cellphone or anything. I only upgraded because my old cell finally broke and this is the kind of cellphone I can very comfortably use for the next 4 years or more if it lasts. Great size. Fits comfortably in my pocket. Waterproof. Works in Latin America for anyone wondering. The waterproof is great. I didn't buy it because I wanted to take underwater pics or talk in the shower. It's the little things like being able to pick it up with your hands wet to answer a call or not worrying if it's raining. Great.

Amazing what a little money can buy - it's a full smart phone, unlocked, other than the somewhat crude display, no complains really.
Battery life is OK, sound is OK, size is great for smaller pockets.
Display is hard to read in sunlight and is quite pixelated.
But considering the price, a very interesting device.

Don't ever buy anything from Popularelectronics.com! Instead of new, unlocked phone I got something with water damage marks inside SIM card slot and IT'S LOCKED by TIM networks! So you can't trust them. No talk about refund this far. I do not want a replacement because I'm not sure what I get.

As for operating system, the phone runs without any problem, even after three updates, still is very fluid.
The bravia screen integrated in this celullar is very surprising, the imaegenes look very clear and defined. the camera is 8 mega pixel and its functions are multiple (the camera integrated into the cellular sony I've always think are the best on the market).
