Pros:
- Unlockable bootloader. You have to get a code from Sony to do it, but it's very straightforward.
- Rock solid stability, it has never locked up or rebooted on me.
- All major hardware features are supported with CM11: Sensors, compass, camera, light, notification LED, camera button, wifi, bluetooth, etc. (Haven't tested NFC but I think it works too).
- Works with my 64 GB microsd card
- The hardware itself is largely fantastic, see the many other reviews that cover this.
Cons:
*********** Again, CM11 specific. This does not apply to stock firmware. YMMV. ***********
- Stock firmware music player can play music through remote devices using DLNA, I couldn't figure out how to this in CM11 without installing a third-party app.
- Camera sometimes takes 2-3 seconds to initialize after launching the camera app. Might be annoying if you're trying to take a picture as quickly as possible.
- No built-in support for the FM radio. You can install a paid app called Spirit2 if you want to use the radio.

I've been using the phone for almost 3 weeks now. I haven't had any issues or bugs come up in the stock Sony 4.3 ROM. I read a few complaints about this phone on sony forums and XDA before I bought it, but I haven't experienced any of them. The Sony 4.3 ROM is incredibly stable - probably the most stable I've used on an Android phone. I didn't upgrade to Kit Kat because of the bugs reported, but Sony has reportedly released an improved Kit Kat build. I'm not eager to upgrade to that because of Kit Kat's limitations with sdcard. Eventually I'll probably end up on CM11 (which is also reportedly very stable for this phone), but I'm happy with 4.3 for now. Rooting 4.3 is a pretty complex process which I have not attempted yet, but will try to do so soon.
Overall, I'm very pleased with this phone and its size/performance combination. Hopefully this will sell well and other manufacturers will take note that there are consumers out there looking for small, high powered phones.
edit: forgot to mention that I'm using on T-Mobile USA and both H+ and LTE work fine.
edit #2: Rooting got a whole lot easier thanks to George Hotz and others. Check the xda forums (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784900) - there is basically a one-click-root tool for this phone now. Also, Sony updated the ROM to a stable version of Android 4.4.4.
Still no complaints after about 5 months with phone. Price has dropped a lot, too.

This phone does what I need. There are issues with unlocked phones in T-Mobile. Like I cannot send pics in may non-city locations. I also don't get some features like wifi-calling. That seems insignificant except that if I had that option I could use it to send pics in the non-city locals. In the last 6 months I have learned other small issues with unlocked phones and hope that the industry will move away from branded phones as the most favored children or lower their prices on phones.

Sony has produced the finest Droid phone I have ever used. Stabile. No errors. The glass, according to specs, is not Gorilla but on close inspection is something similar and drop test videos show virtually unbreakable. Loaded with features this "compact" easily offers all the top sellers do but never crashes. The Bluetooth is amazing. Streaming high quality audio with either the Walkman app or the Droid/Google Play store music player is seamless and powerful. There are even some Sony Specific perks that aren't offered by any Us carrier like Xperia Privilege. Finally the camera. I could buy this device just for the camera. 20+ Mp of juicy feature rich still and video ability. Easily accessible with the dedicated shutter button, grabbing quick video is a second away.
And finally the thing I was most worried about. Using the Unlocked Sony Xperia Z1 Compact on the ATT Network. I slid my Sim.card in with trepidation. Nowhere online could I find anything positive about that. I was astonished when 2 minutes after turning on my device, not only was it speeding along in 4glte, but ALL MY APPS, SETTINGS AND DATA AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOADED FROM GOOGLES CLOUD. It was easier than any device I ever bought
from ATT and Samsung.
Jump on board America. FINALLY! An unlocked phone with feature rich stability, waterproof protection, and iPhone like beauty. It

First. I fell in love with the Z1 Compact because of its size. I'm still apathic to the trend of larger and larger screens on a cell phone. My hands are relatively small and the dimensions on this device allow me to operate it with one hand easily.
Second. I love it's power. I've thrown everything I can at it (apps, large files, streaming, games, using all radios at the same time) and I still can't make it break a sweat.
Third. It's camera is a huge upgrade from what I used to have. Photos come out great in almost all lightning conditions. Pics in especially dark places do turn out a bit grainy but I don't really mind that.
Fourth. It's waterproof (or water resistant... whatever the right term is). I was hesitant to try out this feature, but I swam with it in a pool and no worries. I did try to snap a couple pics with the phone underwater, but it didn't work. I believe the screen protector I have on it may have played a role in that, but it is of no consequence to me.
Battery life is great. With normal use, it lasts about a day and a half. On heavy use it'll last about 16 - 18 hours.
There are a few things that Sony's skin over Kit Kat could improve upon, but overall I'm really happy with this device.

I purchased this phone about 6 months ago for use on T-mobile. It has worked wonderfully, and it is the best phone that I have ever used. I chose the phone because for its camera, display, and (relatively) small size. It looks great and takes pictures well. I have read several reviews about how the AR effect is silly, and it is. That being said, my children love to play with that feature.
The phone is responsive, and does not every feel sluggish. I usually get about two days of use on a charge, but it can be just a day if I am using it a lot. The voice interaction works pretty well, so long as I speak slowly and deliberately. The phone has plenty of internal storage space plus a micro SD slot. The Sony apps that are installed work well, but I primarily use the photo/video apps.
In the end, I am very happy with this phone and would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a premium level phone that actually fits reasonably well in your hand/pocket.

* Compact size
* Soft-touch plastic back is relatively non-slip
* Low price point
* No problems with audio quality or call connectivity
Cons:
* Not enough storage for apps
* Inadequate processing power and/or insufficient RAM (slow)
* Camera is borderline useless
* Low screen resolution
* Sony "Xperia" value-add is underwhelming
This was my first smartphone purchase and I wanted something compact, unlocked, and relatively inexpensive. I've had the Xperia E for several months now, and in retrospect I should have paid-up for more memory and processing power. This is a classic example of "you get what you pay for." The phone can be infuriatingly slow to respond, even to actions as seemingly simple as unlocking the screen with a PIN. The screen resolution is too low for some apps, making them difficult to use. The camera is only good for capturing still subjects in daylight.
By far the most annoying feature of this phone is its small internal flash memory. 2GB seemed like it would be enough when I was shopping, since I had no intention of loading a bunch of media on it. Little did I know that only about 750MB is allocated to so-called "phone memory," which is where most apps are stored. This severely limits my ability to install much beyond than the preloaded apps on the phone. Some apps can be moved to "internal storage," and I have managed to uninstall / un-update some of the preloaded apps. Nevertheless, updating large apps such as Chrome is often a tedious process of clearing caches and temporarily uninstalling other apps in order to free enough storage perform the update. I'm sure with enough time and effort I could find a solution in some Android forum. Those who expect things to "just work" should move on.

My main issues: If you don't close out unused apps, the phone slows down significantly. It can just be one other app and it starts to crawl. On two different occasions, the phone erased my songs and pictures. They were sent to lost.dir and I had to manually rename each picture and song on my computer and then put them back on the phone. Some of the pictures were damaged and were permanently lost. The headphones that came with the phone didn't last long. I've tried several headphones, but the phone doesn't recognize most of them.
If it wasn't for the phone surviving drops without cracking, I would have gave it a much lower rating.

Key points I love about this phone:
- Excellent camera
- Very fast processing and smooth OS functionality
- Waterproof (yes I have used it underwater)
- Has Dragontrail glass (blows the doors off of Gorilla glass, you can hit this phone's screen and hard)
- Beautiful display despite the 720p. Because it is smaller, the 1080p is unnecessary.
- Battery life is great
- The docking magnetic charger is awesome (bought one for my nightstand and my desk)
- Love that I can put a camera lanyard on it as I am an active person
- Fits into the tightest of my pants pockets
All in all, an awesome buy. I do not like the poor reviews on here as they are not reflecting the phone as it should be purchased. I bought mine from Sony directly and would never get one from a not reputable third party. You get what you pay for.

I have had this phone for about a year now and it's f*ing HORRIBLE. It was alright at first, but it went down hill fast and hard!! I had to delete 90% of my apps b/c my phone keeps running out of memory. I take pictures on a rare occasion if I need to document something for work. Other than that, it just keeps somehow running out of room. I don't update it anymore b/c that takes up memory. It freezes up a few times a week. Sometimes It freezes WHEN MY ALARM IS GOING OFF!! So I have to take off my phone case and remove the battery. Very infuriating when you're just waking up. There's a lot of lag on the phone. Yes this phone may be cheap, but trust me when I say save your money. Buy a cheap, non-smart, nokia phone and save up your money for an actual good smart phone. As for this phone, BEWARE and STAY AWAY. If you do buy it, a few months later don't say I didn't warn you. . .
Previous Review: February 26, 2014:
The phone works (I'm stationed in Italy). I'm able to put a european sim card in it with no problem. It's not the best phone out there, but it works as a good smart phone. I only have a short time left on my tour and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on great smart phone (ie. galaxy S5 or Note 3), so I wanted to get a budget smart phone for internet usage.
pros:
-responsive touch screen
-decent speed
-SD card slot available for extra memory
-great speakers
-has most features you find on any smart phone
-checking fb, email, bank accounts, etc runs smooth.
cons:
-low quality camera with no focus
-decent speed
-not a lot of internal memory
-reception is ehh inside certain facilities
All in all, it's a great smartphone for someone on a budget. I've had better and worse. So if you're looking for a temp phone for not too much money, this is it.

This phone is RUINED by updates. Every update fixes one bug then adds more. First, I updated the phone and wasn't able to answer calls occasionally. Then another update came out and certain appse crashed the phone completely. ANother update came out and Calls could usually be answered, but every time Google Now opened, it would freeze the phone.
At this point I can't use the phone in a reliable way, but I don't remember which update to uninstall because I don't remember which update fixes which issue. Even if there was a log, I have to choose between no being able to answer callas and the phone crashing occasionally every few hours. Another thing is that Sony likes to update the theme of the phone very often and while this adds features I like, this also makes the phone freeze. The fix adds more bugs. If they just left the UI alone and concentrated on fixing errors, this phone would be awesome. That being said, the shortcuts, fro example - ability to instantly call back someone who has called you is awesome (the status bar which lists missed calls has a "call Back" option you can just press) but the many bugs are not.
Great phone but the idiots doing bug fixes better get the software right soon.

Most phone nowadays are getting bigger because apparently the majority nowadays thinks that bigger is always better, well maybe at other things but not always. Anyway that's not our main subject is it now? Bottom line the competitors are the HTC one mini and the Galaxy S4 mini which both have mediocre specs at best compared to this beast which offers everything the top dogs have and more.
Here is a list of the pros and cons:
Pros:
1- A bright 4.3 inch IPS display panel that's razor sharp and reflects vivid colors. One of the best I've seen on any smartphone.
2- The phone fits very well in hands because of Sony's omni balance design.
3- The phone is upgraded to 4.3 Android and will soon receive Kitkat!
4- loud and clear speakers! This applies for both internal and external speakers.
5- A 20 MP shooter which beats the competition hands down.
6- A water and dust resistant phone! Now how awesome is that?!
7- expanded SD card memory option.
Cons:
1- The volume buttons could be easier to press but I promise you nothing to be concerned about.
2- Since it's a water and dust resistant phone all ports need to be covered with the exemption of the 3.5 mm jack.
Would I recommend it? Yes Definitely in a heart beat! Kudos for Sony for creating a compact phone that doesn't sacrifice any of the latest and greatest hardware and software offering in the market today.

I'm from the Caribbean and the phone is truly unlocked.
P.S I did drop the phone about two feet this morning and not a scratch or crack :-)
The seller Mobile Front got this to me on time and I was very happy about that.

I ride scooters and motorcycles so I don't have time to move my phone a lot, if it starts raining I no longer have to worry. I also went to a Disney world vacation and it was raining, I was glad to take all the pics under the rain with no problems.
Some people complain that the glass attracts fingerprints and dirts etc. if you're a germophobe, or a person wtih a cleanliness OCD, maybe its not for you? a quick wipe away is all I need. The speaker is in the bottom so you have to hold your hand in a cup position to direct the sound to you.
Camera shots are great, comes with many photo useful apps, and no bloatware. Expandable memory and whatnot. This phone is blazing fast. I recommend you get the magnetic charger adapter so you dont have to open the usb port every time, and order all covers and glas protectors before you guy the the phone, you can't find anything in the US for it anywhere!!
the only glitch i found was the audio would go away after 5 seconds into a call. I rebooted the phone and it went away.

Lots of Pros:
- Really fast and smooth, never lags, many apps installed, great camera.
- Good for intensive use (camera, browsing, games), battery life (2 days until reach 0%).
- Until today I didn’t get a freeze or un-expected reboot.
1 drawback:
- Is not properly of the phone, is more fault of Google Android kitkat 4.4.4 restrictions.
- I am running out of space in the internal memory, the Android version 4.4.4 doesn’t allow the Apps move to an external memory, and I can not use Link2SD, and can not install heavy games.
+2 Bonus:
- If you root the phone, you can install the cool camera apps of the Xperia Z2 and Z3, and record in 4k resolution.
- Until today, I don’t consider this phone had something to envy to Z2c or Z3c.

I would appreciate any help you can provide me with either the return of money or equipment repocision because for me it's really embarrassing and annoying this situation.

However, for the price is a good phone if you just want the super basic phone..
I'm using this phone as a temporary phone... until the new models come out in August..
I used to have a Nexus 4, but I dropped it while getting out of the car and the screen broke, so I had to get a new phone in a hurry, this one seemed to meet the budget... I tried it, everything works, but it is way slower in processing speed than the $350 nexus phone.. its a neat little nice designed phone, but lacks processing speed and memory... compared to the more expensive phones...
its good phone for a back up phone.. but if you are a techy person and looking at pictures online and facebook, then maybe its best to upgrade to a more memory and faster processing chip... I guess you get what you pay for... but its really cheap at $100... so I guess I can't complain... the screen is slightly small too... but size wise the phone fits well in my pocket..

Here are my thoughts on this phone:
This mobile phone is the successor of Sony Xperia Tipo.
Pros::
3.5-inch (480 x 320 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display and good sensitivity. Responds well to your finger tips.
1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7227A processor. This is the latest processor from Qualcomm and designed to deliver the highest-quality mobile video, imaging and graphics experiences at Ultra HD resolution and at the same time conserve your battery. I thought the processing speed of opening the apps was pretty good.
-Timescape UI
-Scratch Resistant
-512MB RAM ( Decent power to run all your applications)
-4GB internal storage, up to 32GB expandable memory with microSD and this is amazing storage.
-3.2-megapixel rear camera. Its not an amazing resolution camera, but the images were decent.
-1530 mAh battery. Which is quite a decent battery
-Free Headset (for limited period of time)
Cons::
-Resolution of the screen is not that great. On a scale of 1-10 its at 6 and Apple iphone being at 9 and HTC one phone at 10
-No front camera and the existing camera of 3.2 MP will not get you amazing clarity pictures, if you are a big selfie.
-No flash
For Gaming::
It can play casual games like angry birds, temple run, temple run 2, subway surfer etc. without any lag. It can also play high end games like dead trigger, gta 3, etc. but it will skip few frames(means its ill be a bit laggy).
Conclusion::
Decent phone for a great price.

Pros:
- Compact, quality build, with great specs.
- Water proof, dust proof.
- Great battery life. I've been seeing 24hrs+. Nexus 5 was about 12hrs.
- Camera and auto camera setting are just plain awesome.
- Works on TMobile USA
Cons:
- All buttons (power, volume, camera) as small and hard to press.
- Lint and grease is worse than I imagined. Its really annoying but a quality screen protector set really helps.
- Price. Off contract, higher end phones are trending less than this. Oppo OnePlus, Nexus 4/5, etc.
- Included headphones are odd.
