Battery life is quite frankly a joke, if you connect it to a bluetooth device then you will be lucky if you get 4 hours usage, my smartphone is better.
Connectivity is hit and miss, sometimes I have to reboot it before it will connect to anything, then when it does it often cuts out or just stops playing altogether.
The software is built on top of Android which is my opinion is where most of the problems begin. All my other devices are Android but I don't see the point in this because the screen is too small to use any other apps and as is the norm with Sony there are very few updates.
The only positives are that it is a nice looking device, feels quite solid in the hand and the screen is not bad.
Take my advice don't waste your momey.

Such a shame because the unit itself looks and feels nice. I'm surprised that in 2020 Sony hasn't managed (or apparently even tried) to accommodate MacOS. It's just software and really should be that difficult! Thousands of other developers have managed it quite well. I returned mine because I just couldn't face the prospect of navigating individually for every single track I wanted to play.
For Mac users, the NW-A105 will be a lot closer to the original cassette tape Walkman than you will like! Avoid!

So you buy an SD card thinking like EVERY OTHER android device in existence you can move the app to the sd card, and problem solved.
Of course not! That would have required thought on behalf of Sony. No, the ONLY use for that card is to drag across files once you connect the device to a USB. Which is so just pathetically short sighted and crap, cheap design it is just beyond embarrassing.
Try downloading a few things and very quickly you get messages telling you the system is unstable etc etc no room to download etc.
Oh, btw it took over 10 days back and forth with sony support for them to admit this so now I cannot even return the thing.
On top of that, the brightness level is eye searing at even the lowest level, so it is useless to have in bed, unlike again every other android device ever made, ever. The thing overheats like mad all the time and the battery life is garbage.
Don't buy it. It is a prototype at best. The worst walkman ever. All those issues could be fixed by a system update, but that requires sony listening to customers and having common sense, and wanting to put out a good product with some care and thoughtfulness, which clearly they do not, so I am not holding my breath. I wish I had bought a cheap phone instead to use for music. would there really be a difference?
Don't even think about using the noise reduction or other 'features' unless you have bought the compatible headphones. It will not work and all that happens is the battery crashes even more. What a piece of half baked nonsense. I am so sad.

Firstly and most importantly is the sound quality which I am happy to report is excellent, don't worry about the sound levels as the volume limit can be turned off/disabled.
I may be old school but I still purchase music on CD and I wanted a device that could carry a large collection of music, I purchased a sandisk micro sd card and this worked straight away without any hassle.
I decided to use the Sony Music Center to hold my collection and transfer the files to this device and thus far I have found this to be temperamental, it's maybe not the walkman's fault but you would expect this to be seamless as both are Sony products. The problem I have encountered is when 'syncing' music. There isn't a 'sync' option, the software identifies which files/albums/playlists etc. haven't been transferred and there is an option to transfer, sadly this is where the software has problems, it sometimes doesn't identify correctly what hasn't been transferred requiring manual selection and transfer, this often results in multiple copies of the same file/song on the walkman and sometimes it simply refuses to transfer the selected items. This has already resulted in one factory reset as this seemed simpler than sorting the mess out. For those that stream music this obviously wouldn't be a problem.
Others have mentioned battery life and this is something that probably needs careful attention, I have got 4-6 hours of use from a full charge with 50% of the battery remaining but I make sure that things like wi-fi and bluetooth are turned off to preserve it as much as possible, I can see that having these turned on or other apps running in the background would seriously dent battery life. The android operating system is nice but I don't forsee using it in preference to a phone in most circumstances.
Anyone considering buying this I imagine is doing so as they want a better quality of sound than they get from a phone and this certainly delivers on that front.
I was hopeful that I would be able to download and use the sonos app but this was a bit hit and miss, I was able to access the music but for some reason not the playlists, I think this is a problem with the sonos app though rather than the walkman.

I assume it's a dodgy battery which i have returned ... if not .... maybe Sony should look to improve there design to allow better battery life.

1, the battery. advertised at approx 26 hours I was lucky to get 4 hours before having to charge again.
2. when using the back of the player gets too hot.
3. the interface is very slow and buggy.
4. On amazon music hd downloading an album takes a long long time even though my wifi connection is very good ie virgin media.
consequently i will be returning to amazon for a refund, a very dissapointing purchase/

It's nice but a bit expensive.

The build quality is also excellent at this price point.
The only real negative is battery capacity, keep your charger handy!
I would like to try the next unit up in the range to see how big a step up in sound quality it is

Schade!

(New update )16 gig is too low for an android device just keeps Running out of space Look for the higher gig models
