I got this camcorder from SONY repair department as a replacement for my SONY HDR-HC1 which stopped working a few monthes ago. Comapring to my old one, this camcorder is very light and compact which could be conveniently stored in the bag or pocket, however, the quality of video is very disappointing, with the highest quality shooting mode, I cannot even believe it could be called 'HD' video. At most I think it is only compariable to DVD quality. Eveything thing is so soft, like seeing things through fog, details are lost, also the color is very dull, and in low light conditions it is also not working well, the video is very noisy. The HDR-HC1 HD camcorder I purchased 5 years ago with 1080i format could shoot much much sharper and vivid videos than the 'FULL 1080P HD' videos this one can shoot.So if you only need a camcorder for fun and don't care much about video quality then this one could be a choice, however, if you do want to get a serious HD camcorder which could shoot videos like we see in HD channel then forget all these compact camcorders using AVCHD format, get a real tape HD camcorder using HDV format. These are not real 'HD' camcorders.

Excellent product a must buy, shipping was on time, works incredibly outdoors. Full HD worth the investment, bought it to videotape growing years of my newborn....able to do much more

Use this camera to film football games. Nice, wide angle lens that does pretty well in dark conditions with bad lighting. Autofocus is gets worse at night and indoors. No manual controls to speak up. SD files are easy to work with, but you need a newer PC to work with the AVCHD video files (or a converter to make them mp4 or avi). Camera is easy to use and cheap!

I just purchased this camera and I am going to be returning it. Not because its a bad camera, the video quality and overall ease of using it is 5 stars. The reason I am returning this is because it does not have night shot. It does give you a low lux option but the lowest it can get to is lux 11. I use a camera for paranormal investigations and have a Phantom Lite, (IR light) and the camera will not even pick it up unless you are pointing the light directly into the camera.If you are looking for an HD camera with night shot, good luck. Sony's latest consumer camera's do not have super night shot. Without night shot, paranormal investigating is completely out. I am going to purchasing a Sony HDR-SR11 on amazon in the next few days. It took me forever to find HD camera's with night shot but I was able to put together a little list of Sony camera's that have both.HDR-Cx7HDR-XR200VDCR-SR62HDR-UX10HDR-SR10HDR-SR11HDR-CX12

I was looking for a very good HD camera to record high-quality videos to publish and stream online. First I ordered Samsung HMX-Q10 HD Camcorder which was defective and I had to return, but this Sony camera is simply fantastic. The quality of videos and images, the image stabilizer, and the rest of the features are really good for this price and model.This is simply what I needed and I'm satisfied. The only point that is making my job a little hard is that it creates multiple AVCHD files and I have to merge them every time. I couldn't find any settings to change this so it records into a single file.

I am a graphic designer but I am far from experienced with video etc. Either way, I think this is an excellent camera for what we wanted it for (home shoots etc.) Actually the quality is quite impressive to me. Sharp, zooms nice, auto focuses pretty well. Perfect for what we wanted it for!

This is second video camera that I bought. The first one was also Japanese I have it from 2005. But this one is very nice, small, tiny, easy to use. I appreciate the most its zoom very accurate and and good image quality. I recommand it to every one that intend to buy a video camera, you will not be disappointed.

This sounds silly but be sure the files that this camcorder creates are compatiable with your computer. I have a 3 year old IBM lap top that will play any movie format know to man except the one this camcorder creates. I spent two hours yesterday trying to play these files. The closest I came was to download a converter recomended by windows that costs $39 and takes as much time to convert the recorded file to a playable file!

I was looking for a HD camcorder that could also produce good-quality still photos as well, and this is not it. Apparently the CCD is only 1.6 megapixels (see the "Effective Pixel Resolution" specs on Sony's web site) and Sony is using a pixel-doubling/averaging technique to create artificial pixels between the real ones.

Looks like a good camera, but the extra 3600 mah battery they send with it gets an incompatible battery error message that reboots the camera.

I use my Sony HandyCam for news videos and home movies. Most impressive is that I can use the same camera for shooting news videos on [...] while easily taking it to my child's events.In short, this is an excellent camera for its price.
