The Sony Alpha 3000 is a hybrid camera that combines the internals and lens mount of its NEX line with the look and feel of a DSLR. This camera is an interesting hybrid between a tiny consumer point and shoot and the `smaller than DSLR' camp of NEX / Micro-Four Thirds / Fuji X1 etc. The image quality and price both align to this middle of the spectrum range, and for a 20MP APS-C sensor this is a great value. Interchangeable lens can be a game-changer for someone interested in raising their photographic capabilities and the NEX mount lens catalog is fairly large.However the size camera alone makes it very much an outlier and for travelers of those who appreciate a more svelte form factor there are better options. For example the Panasonic GF3 is often on sale, and in particular with the fantastic 14MM or 20MM pancake lens would give better image quality.Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3CK Kit 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 14mm Pancake Lens

I was looking for an upgrade to my old point and shoot camera, but admittedly just want to quickly snap a picture and have it look good. This camera that takes high resolution pictures, vivid colors, is reasonably priced. A great upgrade for me, all my family pictures, inside/outside are much better.

spec looked great until i took pictures, very poor at best, my 10 year old nikon d50 takes better pictures, the video has lines all over it and breaks down in many areas, overall build quality was totally cheap, spend the extra few bucks and get a canon t3 or nikon 3100 both work great, i actually bought a used nikon d5100 from amazon because i already had lenses which helped keep the price down, i don't know about mirror less tech but the live view on the canon and nikon works great, as many have noted the viewfinder and lcd on the sony are useless- love sony products , this does not live up to their reputation

People keep knocking this camera for it's lower res LCD and viewfinder and other minor issues. First off, this is a $279 camera which gives you DSLR type features (interchangeable lens, comfortable grip, hot shoe) AND a fantastic 20MP sensor. To find similar resolution from another camera you'll have to pay $450 or more. So if you want to spend money go ahead but don't knock this camera for minor issues. If you're going to stare at a camera's LCD screen all day maybe this isn't the camera for you but if you want GREAT IMAGES then definitely buy this camera. The whole idea behind this camera is "magazine quality images" for as little money as possible. This camera meets that goal! BTW, it takes great video also.

Wow! Super pictures and nice feature set all at a reasonable price. So far after a few months of owning this unit, I have no issues and am having fun with it. This is a great camera for the price and it take great pictures.

Makes the foray from automatic cameras and point & shoots almost effortless. Relatively lightweight, beautiful shutter response, and the test of all tests for images--at full resolution, pristinely clear quality (little noise in the right lighting). I own Pannys, Nikons, Samsungs, and a Canon and this is my preference above a Canon or Nikon anyday. I know I've still yet to explore everything my Sony has to offer but I'm so proud to share the pix I've been taking with it pretty much right out of the box.

Saw this camera first as a test model at Walmart. . But saw it here for less.. it was a great deal.. love the speed and ease of the features and captures. It is digital but also can switch to the view finder with ease and takes great pictures. . It even has built in tops to help you take great pictures. Love it.. I am a happy photographer.

I am no professional or even close, but I greatly enjoy photography and playing around with the different aspects of taking a photo. This camera is extremely user-friendly, the battery life is great, and the photo quality, pretty darn good! I have had it for about 3 months now and have had no problems whatsoever! Great camera for a great price!

I have an NEX 7, and this was bought so that i could keep my telephoto on my neck while i had a wide angle. For the price, you can't beat it.The Sony menus are a little tricky, but once you have learned how to use, you are good to go. Again, it exists as a second camera. And re the view finder, or the flat screen on the back, if you find these a problem, you never worked in the old days where all we had was a ground glass viewer.The NEX 7 is a must have. The a3000 (also a5000) are probably just what the serious but cheap amateur needs - a second body!

It's a great camera although like many new technologies it does far too many things for my purposes. I'm a non-auto pretty much manual kind a photographer and don't like all the special things this kind of camera does...I often find that my fingers confuse the issue without my intention or permission. Once on the proper setting it does take a great photo but I'm not sure I want to be so committed to the thing as to have to take a college level course to learn how to use it.

The Sony A3000 is the answer to your dreams if you don't want have the time to learn to shoot a DSLR but want something better than a point and shoot camera. I tested this camera on the auto mode and it has totally impressed me. The basic 18-55 lens is great for your daily pictures plus you have the option of getting different purpose lens as well. The camera itself is light and feels solid. The user interface is extremely intuitive and the picture quality is outstanding. It is extremely enjoyable to take pictures with this even for a novice like me. I think that for the price and the quality of the pictures, this camera is one I would certainly recommend.

Excellent price point for a camera of this caliber. The interchangeable lenses, compatible with the Nex series, make this truly versatile and a great entry into the prosumer market. When in manual focus mode, the viewfinder digitally zooms in to make it easier to find focus. The menus also offer a great set of tips to help new users understand even the more advanced features.Being a mirrorless DSLR, this camera does not have an optical viewfinder, which has it's upsides.On the other hand, the resolution of both the viewfinder and the rear screen are rather low.

I was pleasantly surprised by this camera's performance. It takes sharp pictures, is easy to use and lets you via the viewfinder electronically or the LCD. The viewfinder picture is a bit less clear than I would like and somewhat small but manageable. What really impressed me was the low light performance which is no doubt due the larger ccd. Even higher ISO were less noisy than some other camera's in the same price range. I do have one minor criticism. The camera only shoots jpg or Raw+Jpg , you cannot shot just RAW. Not the end of the world, but an easy enough feature to include.

The A3000 is definitely a step forward from the smaller NEX bodies and outperforms them in some aspects including response. In terms of video quality I can confirm what another reviewer referred to as "fixed patter noise" to be an issue. It's most visible in dark areas or when a shot is out of focus. The video also has more artifacts than the NEX or alpha cameras. The LCD screen is tough to use for manual focus and you cannot see anything sharply through the QVGA Tru-Finder - viewfinder at all, no matter how you adjust the dial. It's above the level of a NEX 3N or F3. But below the NEX 5r & 5t.

This camera is amazing! It's easy to use and gives you little tips about different tools. It's cheap and great for beginning photography. I love it! DSLR camera, 20.1 MP, like $300 or less used. How could you go wrong!?

This camera is excellent. My daughter took it on a trip and even tho she left it mostly on auto - the pictures and video were stunning. The form factor is nice, great for keeping the camera steady on the go. The scene settings are very thorough - you can choose between night time / day time / sports and many more. My favorite is the "hand held twilight" mode - perfect for getting shots without a flash, just make sure your subjects holds steady.All in all, no complaints. I did notice there doesn't seem to be an HDMI port, but honestly I never use those anyways on any of the cameras I do have one on.

Nice little piece of equipment. Lots of toggles and fx. Well worth the buy. Now if only Sony could find a way to make their lenses and adapters more affordable.

After reading all of the reviews, I bought the camera and it performs as advertised. You can't go wrong. Have people telling me wow what a nice camera and people commenting on how nice the pictures are.
