I purchased this drive to replace another Seagate Momentus I had that was full. Works exactly like you would expect, as fast as you would expect, and as quietly as you would expect. I have heard others complain about the Momentus drives seizing and breaking, but in my experience with both of them this has never happened.Love the drive, would buy another one.

It was on time and it wasn't broken. I like everything about this product and I should have bought it long before. I read all the reviews before I made my decision. It was a great product for increasing the size of my laptops hard drive.

Replaced my MacBook HD for something bigger. Works great. Easy to install and with Time machine it was easy to get my system back up. The HD works great and have no complaints.

Replaced the old 320gb 7200rpm in the my Thinkpad T61. Cloned the 320gb to this new 750gb and noticed a performance increase, especially during boot. No reinstallation of the OS was done.

I purchased this 7200 RPM 250GB hard drive as a replacement to my current old 40GB laptop hard drive. My old laptop hard drive was waring out and was full and I was always constantly clearing out old things just so I could fit in the new things. So I rebuilt my laptop and now I have around 220GB of open space after installation of my operating system and my software. That is more room for my videos and my iTunes. This method of purchase was also cheaper than going down to a retail store and buying one.

Bought this drive in November 2010. It's been working great for me. I use it a lot. Tons of fast storage. I am paranoid about backups so hopefully I am covered if the gremlins visit.

All that was in the box was the drive -- no cables, nothing else. I hooked it up with a USB / SATA 2.0 adapter and used Seagate software to clone the drive. Dropped it into my laptop and it came up just fine. I've been using it about three weeks now without any problems and lots more space on my drive!

The 7200 is fast, really fast. But in my macbook, it vibrates my whole table. Probably should have gotten the 5400 for my laptop.

I was hesitated to buy this drive but there have been a lot of positive feedback at Newegg lately. Thus I gave myself a try, especially with the recent cheap price + free shipping. I should have paid attention to all the negative reviews here at Amazon.Noisy: Bought it 2 weeks ago; installed it on Aug 19, 2010 to replace my 40GB Seagate Momentus 5400 RPM on one of my laptops. The drive is noisy to me; perhap I use it in my quiet home office, no TV, no one but myself. When I put my old drive back, the room suddenly becomes quiet. Don't understand why it is noisy; both drives are the same type "Momentus"; the differences are the RPM and the capacity.Vibration: It vibrates a lot. I don't feel comfortable with my hands on the keyboard because of this vibration. But I feel nothing with my old 40GB Seagate drive.Hot and a lot of heat: Temperature rises quickly. Watching video or browsing around for a while, the drive temperature rises very fast compared to my old drive. I am afraid that its life expectancy will be shorter due to the high temperature all time - it is easily to reach the max too.

I was delighted when I first installed this (12/2009) as a replacement drive in my Dell Inspiron. However, in recent months the drive access light seems to be on almost continuously. In the last month, the Dell diagnostics that automatically run weekly have started telling me that although the SMART tests pass, other tests do not. Third-party partitioning utilities no longer recognize the drive, although they did 2 months ago. So, I am going to replace it before I can no longer get my machine to boot. I am very disappointed in the short useful lifespan of this drive. And I don't seem to be alone...

Just know that this drive doesn't come with Segate's G-Force SMS to detect if your device is in a freefall. That feature only comes on the 500 GB ST9500420ASG2 and the 250 GB ST9250410ASG2.I ordered mine elsewhere, but I still can't wait to get it in my 2011 MacBook Pro's current HD slot. I had forgotten how slow these stock 5400 RPM drives are!

I used this HDD on my MacBook Pro instead of the original one. I expected it to be much faster as it's 7200RPM. But that's not the case.Speed is ok while accessing data files, but it still takes some time when launching "heavy" applications.My only problem now is trying to launch BootCamp on vmware Fusion (Win Vista on BootCamp runs great on its own). I still need to get that issue fixed!I didn't notice any noise from the drive as I read in some reviews, so I believe it's quite enough for whoever works in the night when there's silence surrounding him like I do.Great product and recommended for whoever is looking to expand his MBP's HDD.

I'm only giving this three stars because I can feel the drive running. The old drive was a 5400RPM drive and maybee thats the difference as this one turns 7200RPM. Reguardless the drive works fine and has no bad sectors. There is no packaging or software with this drive but you really don't need any. I would reccomend purchasing the software to backup or swap (clone) your original drive if you are going to replace your current drive. I purchased Acronis True Image and it works well and easy to use. I have a Dell E1505 thats several years old. I needed more storage for pictures, music and movies. I would give it five stars if I didn't feel the thing spinning below my palm rests.

I gave this two stars because it failed well within warranty. Failing within warranty was a real pleasant surprise. Maybe it would have been okay in a glass box anchored firmly to a concrete foundation. Mechanical drives are almost universally short lived with laptops and the old school storage industry has never really developed a good solution.

The fastest/largest internal drive for macbook pro's on the market today (Jan 2011), so far works great on my macbook pro (late 2008)! My first Seagate, usually have used to the WD scorpio drives that where also pretty good. Worth getting

Purchased the drive brand new for my Dell laptop. Within one month the drive began "clicking" intermittently, each time causing my machine to completely lock up and freeze while it happened. At first I thought the problem would go away, but it progressively got worse and worse until I finally had to return the drive.RMA is not free - you need to either pay for them to mail you a box and a shipping label, or pack it yourself. Next to impossible to pack yourself - they have extremely strict requirements about the amount and type of foam required, which can't be purchased at shipping stores. In other words, you are forced to pay Seagate for a replacement drive.Received a new replacement and within 2-3 weeks the new drive started having the same issue. Returned that one as well and received a green label "refurbished" drive. The refurbished drive was constantly clicking right out of the box - I was shipped a defective drive. "Refurbished" basically means they tried to find the problem someone else had, couldn't, and shipped that problem drive out to me.I'm not impressed. Not only am I out the cost of the drive, I'm also out the amount I spent for the "advanced replacement" process.Like many of you, I read the reviews on Amazon and figured that maybe all of the bad reviews were because of the number of drives Seagate sells and only the bad people complaining. Boy was I wrong - these drives are complete lemons. Beware - don't make the same mistake I did!

I got this drive to upgrade my 60gb PS3. It was very easy to install and it has been working in great condition for the last three days. Very quiet and fast not counting the space. The difference between 7200 rpm and 5400 it's not monumental but more speed can't hurt. My personal experience with both WD and Seagate has been nothing less than excellent but looking at other reviews makes me think that is just luck. I will update my review if i have any problems with the drive in the upcoming months. For the price you can't go wrong WD or Seagate will do the job.

My CEO had a Dell Laptop with Vista that had trouble loading some necessary proprietary office software that would not run on VistaRemoved old hard drive, installed this one and formatted with XPAll worked well and XP is very fast on this laptopI did my research ahead of time. This is the same HD that came with her Dell Computer but still I had to adjust the bios to read this drive

Excellent seller. Hard drives came very fast. Although, I asked to return the HD's because after I ordered them I asked the seller about the warranty. The seller responded that they are OEM which was easy to over look. It was stated OEM in the Amazon search results that list different companies for this specific Hard drive (which I noticed after the sellers response) but it was not stated when I clicked on the actual item or store to buy it. Actually nothing was mention in the description about the warranty so I assumed there was a 3 year manufacture warranty.Beware that OEM doesn't carry in this case the Seagate 3 year warranty. Actually Seagate said there is no manufacturer warranty at all on OEM Hard drives. The seller does give 1 year.The HD's were shipped in a yellow bubble padded envelope. When the PO put it in my mail slot it had to drop 3 feet to the ground. Not good. A box with padding should have been used when mailing Hard Drives. I would have also asked to returned it because of the way it was shipped.Other then that the seller answered all my questions & concerns promptly and only wanted to please me, and for this reason, I would definitely buy from this seller but ask questions before I buy if the opportunity comes around.

If you own a laptop that is not operating up to your wishes, and you've already loaded up with RAM and defragmentated the hard drive, chances are that the performance deficit you are experiencing is simply the limitations of a 5400rpm drive, undoubtedly the type that came with your system. An easy (and now, inexpensive) way to significantly boost the speed of the system is simply to replace your 5400rpm drive with a faster, 7200rpm model. This used to be an expensive proposition, but now has become exceptionally affordable.This particular Seagate model is especially good for upgrading an existing laptop for a number of reasons. First, as mentioned above, this is a 7200rpm drive, which all by itself offers a significant performance boost over the standard 5400rpm versions used in most all stock laptops. Second, the drive is a SATA 3.0Gb model, which means that the theoretical upper threshold for data transfer is exceptionally high (although in real life these values are almost never achieved). In addition, this particular model employs native command queuing, a hardware based performance feature which is not found on all such drives.At about $60, this is one of the most effective and inexpensive ways to boost a laptop's overall performance. Don't expect miracles, but depending on the drive you are replacing, you may see quite a change in system responsiveness, particularly in disk intensive operations. The easiest way to perform the change is to use a disk imaging program to save a "snapshot" of the entire disk, remove the old disk , install the new drive, and then copy the saved image back to the new drive. Nothing much to say... After 10 months of normal use in laptop, the drive is dead. This is the only drive that stopped without any warning. Make sure you have backups.

Easy to install in laptop .. used Maxblast5 from the Seagate website to 'clone' my old C drive - make sure to use a boot disk that you create from the Maxblast5 menu to clone the C drive otherwise you may get a 'blue screen'. This disk is faster than the old drive but it does run a little warmer.

My Dell Inspiron 13's original HDD was a Western Digital 250GB 5400RPM/8MB Buffer which was really quiet but needed replacement.I bought this at Dell.com and was branded on that website as Dell 250GB 7200RPM/16MB Buffer with Free Fall. When I opened the OEM box, its this Seagate after all and not a Dell brand as I was hoping to find.In the process of installing the OS and drivers, I started to hear the clunky sound. The problem is it is not a quiet HDD, it is in fact loud. It is worse than the Western Digital hard drive it replaced. There is no noticable speed improvement either.I am sending this back and buying the WD3200BJKT instead.

I have one of these from the factory in an ASUS N81. The drive is the loudest hard drive I've owned since the mid 90's. I have debated RMA'ing the computer for the hard drive noise, but after reading so much about how crappy this drive is, I'm just going to spend my own money and get a quality hard drive. If you're considering this hard drive, good luck with the lottery on them. Seems like most of them are junk; mine is.

Installed this Hard Drive in my laptop and then Installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS with no problems. Kept my original hard Drive which had a Windows Vista Premium 64 bit OS. Have been using new hard drive about a month now and it appears to be quiter than the Western Digtal with Vista OS. So far the new Hard Drive is working just fine. Windows 7 start's up and shut's down so much quicker than vista but why didn't Microsoft put "Windows Mail" or "Outlook Express" in it?

The 2.5 inch Seagate Momentus 250 GB hard drive works flawlessly. I bought the drive for the increased RPM and capacity to replace the one in my Toshiba 17 inch Notebook.There was no problems fitting it into the Hard drive slot or space. I reloaded the original Vista Home Premium software from the Toshiba recovery disks then downloaded all the latest updates.I am completely satisfied with the dive.Jay Reynolds.

Purchased the drive in March 2009 and worked fine in my Thinkpad T400 with WinXP for 8 months. Then in November 2009 computer was slow to boot up and began freezing randomly. Then windows wouldn't fully boot up and was barely able to run in safe mode.Ran PC Doctor 5 and disk surface scan failed.Ran CHKDSK and was unable to read many sectors and wasn't able to fix bad sectors.Drive just failed, presumably from bad sectors. Wasn't making any audible noises at all so no warning.Thankfully I had the entire system drive backed up on a windows home server and was able to restore from the previous night's backup to a new drive. Popped in the new drive and was back up and running.

I bought this drive a few months ago and about a week after installed it started to make a noise that sounds like a bunch of marbles are loose inside my MacMini. It also makes beeping noises here and there...The noises are starting to become more prevalent so I went to Seagates site to have it swapped out...they want to charge me 19.99 in order to send me out one first so that way there isn't any down time...What a crock!...I wouldn't recommend getting this drive or any Seagate product...They obviously know they have problem with their drives because they are charging you 19.99 to have it replaced in a timely fashion..Should have bought a HITACHI!!!!

My laptop's old hard drive fried the weekend before finals, so I desperately needed a new one. Dollar per dollar this machine was cheaper than the laptop models available in stores (Best Buy, TJMax, etc). It also, is a highly effective hard drive for someone who isn't concerned about lugging around half a terabyte of info on their shoulders. Amazon failed to deliver it on time, but I'll overlook that.

i use to have a older version of this HardDrive on my laptop so i decide to order something similar...some people complain of the Hardrive making noice or not working.in my case it worked fine, no sound or any vibration i use my laptop atleast 12 hours a day and havendt had any problem with the disk.the price is good and the product works nicely.

I have done a lot of PC upgrades, this was my first Mac Upgrade with new install of Snow Leopard. This was by far the easiest upgrade/install that I have done. Drive works flawlessly so far! Very fast and quiet!

I wanted to replace my stock 5400rpm with a 7200rpm HDD to see what sort of performance difference I would get. I am surprised yet grateful to say this was a great decision. This drive is quiet and so far hasn't changed the battery usage on my laptop. There is also a very noticable difference in laptop speed!.

Purchase this to upgrade the original 100GB in first generation MacBook Pro. Reinstall OS 10.5 and Bootcamp Windows 7, few noticeable differences are MacBook Pro chassis is warmer while and vibration is higher under normal operation. No clunking noise so far.
