I used this hdd to replace a 320 GB from same manufacturer that went dead after 3 years. This one has more space and same rpm, hope it doesn't go down as soon as the other.

I purchased this drive to replace the drive in my daughter's Toshiba laptop that crashed because it was dropped from the couch to the floor. The reason I went with this drive was that it has a detection system in the drive that will park the heads if it determines a fall. However, due to cost, I decided not to test this feature and I also hope my daughter doesn't drop it again to test that feature either. However, if it does drop again, I will update this review to let you know the results.

I read many other reviews about 750 GB harddrive crashing early in its lifetime but still went ahead and bought this product. I trusted Seagate more than reviews here. I had to pay for my mistake though! My HDD stopped working in no less than a month. I am sending it back to seagate for replacement, pure waste of time ( and maybe money if seagate does not give me a good working replacement. )

Obtained this to replace a 120GB 5400RPM hard drive in a notebook which was causing the notebook (HP Pavilion DV6000 Series Notebook) to freeze when moved... Kinda freaky.In any case, I got the drive along with a Vantec NexStar TX 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure enclosure.Both arrived the next day. Took the new drive and installed it into the enclosure and then used the Acronis backup software's Media CD to use the clone option to move the data from the old drive in the notebook to the new one. Took about 30 mins. Notebook has Win7 Pro on it.Then removed both drives and swapped them. Note that the HP Notebook uses a special carrier for the drive, but had no problem carefully removing the old drive and inserting the new drive. Fit without any issues.Restarted the notebook which booted without any issues (faster), loaded the SATA drivers for the disk and then rebooted to finish the update.Notebook has not froze once since the move so that is a good indication that the hard drive was the problem I was having as it was easy to duplicate before.Drive is basically silent, no real noticible vibration. Runs a bit hotter than before but the location of the drive is open enough to cool it. Much faster than the previous which was only a 5400RPM drive.Will update as time goes by. But for now an inexpensive fix for a real problem and now have more space to boot.

I recently replaced two defective hard drives with these and I am very pleased with the speed and functionality. I do not know the long term value but thus far I am impressed.

I upgraded my Mac HD and this did it ~ very easy to install! Just a reminder, if you have an older Mac (2006/2007) then you will need to buy at least Snow Leopard to be able to run this on your computer. I figured I note that to save you the searching time on the internet as to why your new HD didn't start with your old install disks. :)

I bought this over a month ago and my husband bought one as well during the lightning deals...I can't really say that I notice it to be any better or worse. it's great that it has 750 GB but unfortunately one of them stopped working a few days ago.. and now I'm waiting for seagate to send me a replacement hard drive.I'm not sure what went wrong. We haven't used the laptops much at all so I'm a bit disappointed. At least, Seagate is allowing us to get a replacement (although i have to pay for sihpping).If the other goes bad or the replacement does, I'll make sure to update this post.

Works very well in my older 80GB PS3. The auto-align feature is very nice because I don't believe the PS3 is geared for Advanced Format drives yet. I tried another manufacturers Advanced Format HDD without the auto-align feature and my PS3 was at a crawl. Boot times and game loads are quick with this drive. There are jumper pins on the back that I used to force the drive to 1.5 Gbps instead of the native 3. I don't believe this is absolutely necessary for proper operation, but there is info on the Seagate website to accomplish this if interested. It does require a very small jumper though.I Would highly recommend this drive!Remember, this is just my opinion from my experiences that I'm sharing.

i bought this hdd to replace the hard drive on a laptop that died, the price i got for this unit was great since it was purchased during amazons black friday, there isnt too much to say about as far as looks or anything like that, i can however say that the packaging it came in was easy to open and very safe for this hdd i had no problems with it at install

It came DOA totally, making clicking noises and and I couldnt return it, logistics are so complicated and extense that obviously no one would like to return something that was 80 bucks only...it's more the hazzle to have it returned than buying another one.

In a notebook, predecessors of these drives have failed. I hope these last.Matching manufacturer and size for a dump / restore of a disk image is what drove me to get this particular drive. I have not been very impressed with the series up until now but my options are limited to retain the correct drive format. These will be spares, since I just had to use my last spare to rebuild a RAID array component. I bought *two* only *because* of the track record of failure, and I can't afford to lose the machine they are in due to disk failure. (Yes, it's backed up too!)So, I gave these drives 3 stars because I can't really comment on them otherwise than comparing with their earlier versions.It's possible it's a bad design in the particular notebook - the mirrored pair are stacked back-to-back with no place for heat dissipation - which is what I suspect has killed a series of these Seagate Momentus 500 drives over time... (as I say not *this* particular one, but several previous ones in the ST95004XX-- series).Perhaps if I ever get to needing to use these drives they will be just fine.

If you're buying this drive for a PC laptop (I have an HP Pavilion laptop - I'm not sure if this applies to other PC laptops as well), make sure you buy a caddy and adapter for this drive as well. Without it, you're not getting it installed into an HP (and possibly other manufacturer's) laptops. I learned this the hard way. I received the drive today, and after an hour of Googling (after HP's website was useless) how to install it (I know desktop PCs intimately, but am a little shaky with laptop PCs) and finding nothing online, found out that I needed an adapter (it took voiding the warranty on my original drive, by tearing off the manufacturer's tape, and removing the drive). I was not able to find any information on HP's website regarding this.My annoyance is not with the drive or the seller, but with HP. The seller sold me exactly what I ordered, and it arrived in a timely manner. That said, it might be nice if the seller added a disclaimer mentioning that the drive caddy is needed for at least HP laptops (and who knows how many other PC retailers).For what it's worth, I purchased the drive after a strong recommendation from another IT geek friend of mine. I may comment again after the drive is actually installed and in use. For now, my review remains at three stars, since it's neutral, and I can't actually evaluate the drive yet.

I bought this to replace a 500 Gb 500 rpm, this new one is way faster and that's what I like about it, I do recomend it very much if you want speed this is what you want, unless of course you can afford a solid state HD

I bought this HD cuz I needed a portable hard drive with enough memory to partition into two drive. I have a macbook and PC-Desktop. I created 2 partitions (325gb ea) and it works fantastically. I paired it with an externat case (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BFA91C/ref=cm_cr_ryp_sol_prd_image) and i couldn't be happier. Great job

I just installed this guy on my late 2007 model Macbook as an upgrade from the functioning 320 gig WD (which is an upgrade from 80 gig factory drive). As indicated by several other buyers, it works just fine on a Mac. Just slip it in, "erase" the contents (formatting?) and install. It is quiet, and possibly faster, but that's probably just smoothness from a new clean install. Either way, I am sure this drive will do good, this brand has a pretty good reputation.

Excellent, cheap, fast drive. I'm really impressed with this drive. My mom's WD drive went out on her 4 year old HP notebook with Vista. Threw this in, loaded Windows 7 and away it went.

buy this hard drive with the intention of changing my other Seagate disk to optimize my pc. But not even a month working hard. Smells like burnt. A Fraud. not recommended.
