I have an i7 3770K and 16gigs of ram. I purchased this HDD to replace a 1tb SATA3 7200 drive that went bad(Hitachi). The boot time actually increased from 25seconds to a little over a minute. I even enabled quick boot in the bios and made sure start up programs were at a bare minimum. Still no improvement in start up time. That's a HUGE increase in boot time. Other than that the drive has been humming along without issues so far.

Did a transfer of old 650GB drive to this 2TB moinster. Would not install as instrcuted until I check on the error code I was getting with Segate wedsite and found I had disk errors that needed to ne fixed on the old HD. Worked like a charm after that. I love it!

Performed as expected................the software was "thin"...............so I upgraded to Acronis full edition that gives me all the features I need to use this as a backup drive so I don't need to worry about Windows performing backups.

I purchased 15 of these drives in both the OEM and boxed retail version when they first came out and they were not cheap at that time. All 15 failed within the first year due to the now well-known firmware problem that Seagate had released in the drives. It seems that after they were power cycled about 100 times they just died.Seagate has a good warranty program and they would exchange them for free. That still doesn't pay for all of your time, labor, troubleshooting, lost data, and shipping cost to return them to have them replaced. Sadly when you would return a drive that may be only a few months old they would return a refurbished drive with new firmware. You have no idea how many hours this drive was used or how much life is left in it. Out of 15 returned drives 8 have failed a second time and some even a third from bad sectors on the disk surface. More time, labor, troubleshooting, and costs down the drain again.I even got returned units that were refurbished and they failed right out of the box. The last returns I sent back for the third time I told them I did not want any more refurbished drives sent to me and they agreed.Seagate has been supportive to me but what a lot of work. For a computer GEEK I cannot think of a worse problem than continuous failures and loss of data from a top reputation company like Seagate. They have forced me to become an expert at testing drives before they are installed and before I return them. The testing software "SeaTools" and I have become old friends.I still buy Seagate drives and the newer models work fine. I still test them all before installation.

i haven't really seen any major drive brand stand out or go bad on me. WD, Samsung, Seagate, all have performed well for me. With the prices, speeds, and sizes, competition is still alive and kicking.I just needed more space, and these Barracudas fulfilled my needs.

Hrm. it works, no problems. quiet, reliable. What those other people said. Ah.. one thing that you have to remember to do for this is to partition it in the disk manager. I couldn't get it to appear on my computer and I was freaking out because I thought they sent me a lemon. After I figured this out it was smooth soaring.

I'd tried a larger drive and futzed around with it for 45 minutes to try to get it to format. I finally gave up and grabbed this 1 TB model which worked right away and has continued to work for me.

Server crashed and needed a replacement drive. I had a raid so I didn't have much of a choice because it is such a small drive. Very happy this vendor had one in stock. Lucky.

I have been working with computers for many years and Seagate was the best drive and warranty out there for many years.However recently I see more drives going bad during warranty than continuing to work.

I bought this 2TB Seagate Barracuda primarily to be my second Media disk, as I purchase a lot of movies and TV series from iTunes and these tend to eat up disk space. I also use this disk for storing my precious digital photos. I am using this one in a LaptopMate Uspeed docking station as an external drive. After two days of evaluation I can report that it works fine in this configuration. My USB configuration does not take advantage of all of the speed of this disk, but I can report that the disk was easy to install in Windows' disk manager, and it has performed very reliably in some large file transfers. For the price this is a great value for the amount of disk storage that you get. RJB.

I would rate this item 4 stars. However, one reason I purchased this hard drive was because of its 5 year warranty.When it arrived, the box said one year warranty. Checking with Seagate verified it was one year.I also purchased this item from the local Bestbuy for $75. Their computers said it was a 5 year warranty also. Upon checking with the Seagate warranty verification website, it would not take the PN that was on the hard drive. The box it came in had a different PN and that one was acceptable to Seagate. So, if you buy this hard drive, keep the PN on the box just in case your hard drive goes out within the year.

It's a Seagate, so reliability is expected. But compared to the one (same brand and size) I bought a few years ago, this is faster and slimmer. Great purchase.

I can't even get the software to install correctly, let alone the drive! It has locked my computer up at least 15 times so far, and I'm about to go back to a known config and send the drive and SW back. Do Not Buy This!!!!!

I installed this hard drive in my iMac a few months ago, and it has worked perfectly... no complaints! Although I didn't need them, it's nice that the hard drive came with a SATA and power cable for someone who might be building a DIY computer.

When my 500 GB drive in my Moxi DVR 'died' I was very distraught. Purchased the 2TB Seagate Barracuda and installed it in my Moxi DVR. It formatted with no problems and I have 100s of hours recorded on it.

I bought this a few months back for my new build and frankly I'm not sure what to think. It works, sort of. It seems to have slow reading speeds to some extent. I BOUGHT THIS ITEM USED. I do not know if the product I recieved was previously damaged and almost fully restored, but with up to date mobo, cpu, and gpu I am very skeptical that anything outside of this hdd is causing me to have 1 - 2.5 min boot times... Downloading things is fine and everything works, just not as expected. I have another computer with a similar 500gb 7200 rpm ant boot times are from 30 - 45 seconds. I honestly do not know what to think. I am not a fan of 1 star reviews for DOA's / defects because it doesn't reflect the actual product so I will give this a 4 of 5. I would give 3.5 if possible.

First one I got didn't work at all and returning for a replacement was painless. HD works now and I'm happy w/ it as a second drive. I plan on loading it with Windows 8 as a dual boot.

I use this hdd in my media center and am constantly annoyed by the little chirp it emits every time the hdd spins up after idle. I would return it if I could.

I bought the 2TB drive from Amazon, please be aware that this drive has only 1-year warranty, not the 5-year warranty some might think or in other stores.I believe all the newer seagate drives carries only 1-year warranty now.Edit:You can see the picture I uploaded that shows it has 1-year warranty

Since I'm getting fed up with the accelerated rate of waste in the technology industry, I decided to upgrade my Intel Core 2 Duo Windows 7 Pro (32 bits) PC to better its performance and be able to run the type of applications I use for my top managment consulting profesional services as strategic planning adviser. Mainly, I use Microsoft Project, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Mindjet's Mind Manager, Roxio Creator, Adobe's Acrobat & Photoshop (the satandard editions) and a couple of printers (multifunction and laser). One step was, keeping in mind that my Motherboard SATA interface is 3Gb/s, changing my nice but small and a little bit noissy Seagate Barracuda with 8MB Cache and 160 GB capacity for this one. I also changed the onboard RAM (a 2GB kit for a 4GB kit, which bothers me for having to loose the old set of 2 GB). To make a three part story short, I installed the new disk friday afternoon and it was recognized in full, and yesterday and today I performed a Clean Install of the whole software packages. Although the replaced Hard drive was relatively quiet, this one runs very quietly, and data access speed increased (I suppose that's because of double Cache size, because the bit transfer rate is the same (3 Gb/s).

So, since there are a million reviews on this drive, I'll just state mine as quickly and concisely as possible.I no longer trust these drives and/or Seagate technology.I've been a long-time WD user (but not a fanboy, mind you) but because of a deal at my local Microcenter, I figured that I'd give Seagate a try, since I'd be mirroring the drives anyways. $65/drive, retail, sealed. Nice, right? Well... it sure is, but only for the first 2 months (in my instance).The drives installed great, capacity was right where it should have been after formatting, and I was off to the races and able to start populating it with photos/videos/etc. I'm a photographer/video editor, so I use up a fair amount of data, and I need it to remain backed up/synced/etc at all times, hence the double drive/mirror set up. (Not a traditional raid... two drives, separate master/backup volumes, mirrored using Microsoft SyncToys, which is a pretty cool program, btw).Yesterday, I started up the computer and in both POST as well as Windows 7 bootup (when it reaches the desktop), I was alerted that both SMART monitoring as well as Windows sensed a failure in the drive. Thankfully, the drive is still hobbling along, so I'm able to *slowly* grab the data off. So I figure... ok, it's a single drive. No problem. I'll go get another identical Seagate drive to replace it, RMA the faulty drive and no harm, no foul. It HAPPENS.This morning, booted up... and POST/Win7 reports that the OTHER Seagate drive (same part number & everything) is now having the same issue. So now... I'm sweating it, because not only do I have both the master & mirror drive reporting failures, but the safety drive I'm trying to save the data to is... a... Seagate.So here's the part that frustrates me the most: When I RMA these two drives back to Seagate, I'm not going to receive a refund on my money. Instead, they're going to send me two NEW Seagate drives... of which I will have 0% faith in the stability of the drives.Just... great. Now I have to go out and spend $200 MORE on a pair of WD Black drives... or maybe even Green drives. I bet even THOSE will perform better.Sorry, Seagate. I gave you an honest try, but I won't be coming back for more.

while I did get working hard drives in good condition, they were not the hard drives that I ordered. They were just packaged in a box with the model number etc of what I ordered but what was inside was a different model and lower profile drive. While this might be ok for some people we bought these specifically to go into a RAID set populated by identical drives, so getting shipped drives that were falsely packaged is very misleading and very inconvenient.NOT COOL

The product I received while it was a 500GB Seagate drive was not the same product that was listed. I specifically choose this drive because it was a replacement for a drive that failed on my RAID 5 array. I was trying to keep matched drives for the sake of performance and wear. This listing needs to be changed to the correct product or the shipper needs to contact the buyer and let them know that they are sending them something completely different than what the asked for.BE AWARE THAT YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THE PRODUCT LISTED ABOVE.

I purchased two of these yesterday to put into a Raid 5 Array and within 10 hrs of use the SMART health went from 98% to 52%. One drive completely stopped working and the other started a very loud clicking noise. Windows server had a warning on it saying it was bad and needed to change immediately. Personally, I've been through 6 different Seagate drives - different models, size, USB, and internal they all failed within a year or sooner. I have WD drives 5 years old that are still going strong with a SMART health in the 80s. I have 4 1TB Samsung spinpoint F3 and only one has failed which was in consistent use for over a year.In conclusion Seagate by far has the most failure rates in HDs I've ever seen and I will never purchase another Seagate again as I live.In other news - I just picked up a WD Black 2TB - it has excellent reliability!!!

I carefully took it out of the box carefully made sure of no static build up carefully laid it next to my computer while taking out the old drive. Then I bumped it and knocked it off onto the hard tile floor. It bounced and cracked the corner of the hard drive and I felt sick, knowing that I had destroyed it. I had to plug it in any way just to see what would happen and you know that thing works great! I can not believe it.

I had to run all over town to find a tenth of a cent jumper that should have been packed with the drive. The jumper was needed to change the transmission rate so that the drive could be compatible with my older motherboard.

If you're worried about how they will handle your hard drive, this is the solution for you, it's the same price as the OEM but you are 100% sure your hard drive wont come with any problem, so if your major problem is this one... don't wait and BUY IT!!!So far the hard drive is fast and reliable, just the thing I was looking for

This Seagate ST3500641AS-RK Barracuda 7200.9 500GB SATA was a complete surprise to me. As expected and is the case with most WD and Seagate internal HDD's, installation was exceptionally easy. The real surprise was the included software. In my case, I had an old and small HDD that was beginning to make noise. Rather than wait until it crashed, I decided to upgrade the size and speed of this boot disk drive. I thought I was going to have to either A) re-install Window and installed software and drivers and copy the files from my old drive (a major headache) or B) use cloning software (I purchased one for this purpose). However, upon installing the Seagate HDD as my second drive, the included software AUTOMATICALLY prompted me to specify if this was to be A) a new boot drive, B) a mirror of the existing drive or C) simply a second HDD for additional storage. I selected the mirror. In no time, the system was copied and operational. THANK YOU SEAGATEI have only had the device for a few weeks, so I cannot comment on its reliability as this time.

I bought one from Frys in Feb 2009 and thought it was such a good deal that I went back the next day and bought another. The first drive started acting up after a couple months use and then died shortly thereafter. So I installed the second drive (about a year ago). Recently it started crashing and finally died. I will probably send them in on warranty, but I'm kind of wondering if it's worth the trouble.

Very simple to install especially if it's used as a secondary drive. The retail box includes the SATA cable and power cord connector cable and Cloning CD.If used as primary drive, then the Cloning software isn't that good.Sure, it cloned the original hdd but it kept the partition! NOT good when you upgraded from 250GB to 1T since the Cloned drive is recognized as a 250GB drive NOT a 1T drive!!2 Solutions:1. Buy a partitioning software to remove partition and resize the hard drive so it'll be recognized properly as a 1Tb driveOR....2. Do what many PC users do annually - RESTORE THE ENTIRE PRIMARY DRIVE with a Fresh installation of Windows! Sure, it'll LITERALLY take HOURS for a Fresh install (including other software not just Windows) but you'll have a Clean PC that runs faster and smoother since it's not loaded with software garbage that accumulated over time!I chose Option 2 which took literally 1 entire day but, in the end, it was worth it! My 3 year old computer now runs smoother, faster and has lots of room on the primary drive. I now have a computer with 2 1Tb hard drives but I still perform backups to external drives.BTW... my external harddrives are now becoming 1Tb hard drives since I build them myself with 1Tb internal drives and external Hdd enclosures.It's very simple to assemble then plug and play for additional (MASSIVE) storage! It's better to build your own External hard drives than buy one of those pre-bulit ones that don't even include an on/off switch!!Price is pretty good now ~$117 sale price (at B*****y).Better than the $125-130 sale price about 1 month ago so it's SLOWLY dropping in price!One caution:Not sure about the reliability so keep your receipts and register the product!Seagate used to be TERRIBLE years ago but when it bought Maxtor, then their HDD quality actually improved since the company must have obviously incorporated Maxtor's engineering designs into their own designs!

Purchased this drive back in Feb. 2009, daily use, died Jan. 2010. Everything worked great and then xx. No sign of a problem, not a slow death, just turned on the PC (Dell XPS 410) and got the click-of-death. Like some others with one of these failed drives the computer wouldn't boot and couldn't find the drive (not present). A real POS. The really frustrating part is this drive replaced an 18 mo. old OEM 320GB Samsung that died. My old, heavily used, 1997 Dimension XPS with its massive ;) 13GB Toshiba drive is still working fine, go figure. I guess it all boils down to hit or miss if you get a good or not.At least it's still under warranty.

Software was a bit cumbersome. I guess I was explecting something more intuitive. Drive works fine but not as well as the Maxtor drive I was used to but all and all it is fine.
