I have not had it in the machine for very long, only a month so I can't attest to it's long term reliability. So far in use it's a tad faster than the 500 gig seagates and WD's that it replaced.Before I formatted or used the drive I did check the firmware version and it seems amazon is shipping the latest drives so thats a good thing.So it's a decent speed 1 tb drive at a decent price so no complaintsgiving it a 4 as some of the previous 1tb drives gave me problems and I'm still a bit jaded.

Very good and solid drive. Very quiet and fast. Only think I wish they had done is to print the jumper setting on the drive. I have a older motherborad only support SATA I so have to put a jumper on the drive. But the jumper setting is not on the drive and have to log into seagate.com to find out. Jumper is not included also. Other than that, I am happy with the purchase.

This is a great drive for bulk storage. However, when I tried using it as temp/scratch space during video editing, I experienced hickups during playback that didn't occur using my main drive - strange because this drive actually has double the cache of my main drive (which is older and only has 16MB cache.)Except for that peculiar behavior, it's a very economical drive.

Do not buy one of these drives! This drive is a ticking time bomb waiting to go off and destroy your data.I bought one in Aug 08 and it has failed. Users everywhere are complaining that these drives fail at a VERY high rate. Segate knows about the issue but has not acknowledged the problem. I had to wait hour on phone hold to get to support only to be given the run around 3 times with support people pretending like there is no issue.Seagate has not be forthcomming about the massive failure with these drives. Segate needs to let people know which drives have this problem and do right by the people they sold one to. I am VERY disapointed.I will not buy another segate drive EVER because of the poor support and unforthcomming response by Seagate.

Even though there were warnings about problems with the firmware on these hard drives I needed a new hard drive in the worst way. I have preferred Seagate hard drives for at least ten years now, after many problems with Maxtor and Western Digital. I wasn't disappointed. This Seagate hard drive works flawlessly, and I didn't even need to use the firmware I downloaded a month ago. When you are relying on a computer to make your living there is nothing that matters more than having quality components. My old Seagate hard drives are still in service being used by people who can't afford to buy computers.

Died in less than 4 months. I brought this from Amazon.com. Now I have contacted Seagate for warranty purpose. They said I need to ship the item at my expense and wait for 2-4 weeks for replacement (Probably another rectified/refurbished brick). Not worthy, total waste of time and money!Another Chinese garbage.

Unpack it, plug it into the drive bay, turn on, format it and it works flawlessly. This is the second barracuda i've dropped into my macpro and both are working out just great.

Despite of numerous negative review, I did'nt have any problem installing this hard drive. It is quiet and doing its job as describe. I set it up as a raid for my PC. Thanks again amazon,

I bought this hard drive on Dec 2008 and it die on January 2009. This model has been known to have a faulty firmware that will kill the hard drive. Their return policy is bad also. I waste my shipping fee to have Seagate fix it but they shipped back to me unfix. I will never trust this company ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If you data is important, don't buy this drive and anything from this lousy company.

After having this drive for a short time, it just quit working. It makes an incessant, slight buzzing sound like it is hung up. I had personal info on it and did not want to take it back to the store. Now I am just out of my money.

If you need a good HDD, Seagate is the brand. I have others Seagate HDD and all of them are excellent. For this item, the only note is that it is a little noisy (when data is being read or written). However, it is not very disturbing.

Worst Drives Ever! Had 3 fail already none due to excessive heat or impact. The WD drives I purchased at the same time are still going strong. Buy what you'd like but I'm sticking with WD.

Plugged into a P4 machine, created a partition, and formatted to EXT3 then loaded it with stuff that needed some organization. Went to Seagate's site with model and serial numbers, found it had a firmware update, applied the update as per instruction, then when back to shoveling files around. The hot plugged into a NAS and set it up for more storage there. Works, no surprises.

Easily installed in my generic brand Windows Home Server. Plenty of space now for shared files, backups of laptops, etc. I had to buy a SATA cable at our local computer recycling store for $2 but it fired right up.

The "Seagate ST3500320AS 500GB 32MB 7200.11 SATA Hard Drive" has performed as expected for me. I bought it to replace a failed IOMega drive in an external USB case. The Seagate drive was fairly easy to install in the external case and the included software recognized and formatted the drive with no issues.***UPDATE***After reading another review, I checked my drive to see if it required a firmware update (the Seagate website has utilities to check) and it does. The update process is cumbersome.Not Recommended!CFH

Good afternoon, the present is for inform of which this model of hard disk presents/displays faults after being used a few months. I have seen some forums describing this same fault (S.M.A.R.T error). and this does not have solution to date. The fault in if it leaves the equipment congealed, or with the error indicated above. I put myself in contact with the store (ANTOnline) so that it offered a solution to me and they are not estan making responsible for the same. That is to say; I do not have any guarantee. I demand an answer since I do not have 3 months using the same and fails

Bought this when it was in the goldbox for a friend. He has 4 setup in a raid and it seems to be working great. They just work. Seagate has never steered me wrong.

Well, the hd on my 2 yr old HP mmpc died and I decided on this model to replace it. Installation was a breeze and my system was up and running in no time. So far, the drive is working fine-- fast and quite, and much larger than my old drive. If you do not need the SATA cables and controller, go for this one; it's only the bare drive and therefore, cheaper than buying the kit which includes the cables and controller. Nuf said.

This hard drive was received in good shape and has worked in my NAS box in a RAID-1 configuration. I have not profiled it for performance, but it is working flawlessly alongside another 1TB Seagate in the RAID-1 configuration.

I bought two drives to RAID together in a NAS to allow redundancy and easy access from multiple computers. Both drives were placed in the D-Link DNS-321 and connected to my Gigabit wired home LAN. So far, I'm quite happy with my purchase.

Wish I could give it 0 stars. The hard drive died after 2.5 months. When I brought it to the data recovery lab the whole place was filled with the Seagate 500DB 7200.11. They all have the same SMART problem where they keep hanging forever. I got it with a brand new Dell PC (last time I buy Dell) and because it died more than 21 days later Dell have only agreed to send a refurbished replacement (Western Digital).

Recently I bought this item. I also bought SATA to IDE converter as I have IDE interface. The integration is very simple. Now I enjoy a extended space for all my photos and documents.

This drive performs without fail. I have seven of these 1 GB hard drives and all have been excellent. I use these formatted with a Mac so I can speak only for Mac performance.
