Some time ago I purchased a Transcend 16 GB Class 10 card and reviewed it as "Fast, Fast, Fast". Later reviewers pointed to the printed speed on the actual cards (and on the corporate web pages) (Transcend - 20 MB/sec, Sandisk Extreme - 30 MB/sec) as an indication that the Transcend card was not particularly fast. Since the term "speed" itself is pretty much a subjective description, and since the speed of the card also depends upon the speed of the camera hardware and software, I thought it might be worth speed timing the different cards in my camera (a Canon T1i).My original card, before I bought the Transcend 16 GB Class 10, was a Transcend 8 GB Class 6 (actually a micro-sdhc card) and my review of the Transcend Class 10 card was based on comparison with that card. I bought the Sandisk Extreme card (8 GB since it was pretty expensive) and tested each. The actual timing tests were simple enough. I formatted each card before each test. I then took 20 continuous photos at 8 MP, at 15 MP and at RAW, and recorded the time from the start of taking pictures to the time when the recording light turned off.Timing:1) Transcend 8 GB, class 6Format - 51.5 seconds,20 continuous photos, 8 MP, least compression - 8.6 seconds,20 continuous photos, 15 MP, least compression - 13.4 seconds,20 continuous RAW photos - 44.3 seconds2) Transcend 16 GB, class 10Format - 46.2 seconds (the other cards are 8 GB so this time is not relevant. I included it for the sake of completeness),20 continuous photos, 8 MP, least compression - 8.4 seconds,20 continuous photos, 15 MP, least compression - 10.8 seconds,20 continuous RAW photos - 31.4 seconds3) Sandisk Extreme 8 GB, class 10Format - 8 seconds,20 continuous photos, 8 MP, least compression - 8.0 seconds,20 continuous photos, 15 MP, least compression - 9.7 seconds,20 continuous RAW photos - 27.4 secondsResults:1) Clearly the Sandisk Extreme formats much faster than the Transcend Class 6. A comparison with the 16 GB Transcend Class 10 card would be invalid since the sizes are not the same and there is no evidence that timing for formatting is linear. That is, there is no reason to believe that it would take twice as long to format a 16 GB card as an 8 GB card. It might take more, it might take less,2) Taking photos at 8 MP, least compression, is nearly the same for all cards. Canon recommends a Class 6 card for the T1i and it appears that that is sufficient for photos taken at 8 MP,3) Taking photos at 15 MP, least compression, showed a significant difference depending on the card. The Transcend Class 10 card took almost 20% less time than the Transcend Class 6 card and the Sandisk Class 10 card took about 10% less time than the Transcend Class 10 card,4) Taking RAW photos also showed a significant difference depending on the card. The Transcend Class 10 card took about 29% less time than the Transcend Class 6 card and the Sandisk Class 10 card took almost 13% less time than the Transcend Class 10 card. Conclusions:Some things seem clear to me.1) The Transcend Class 10 card was clearly faster in all categories (except 8 MP) than the Transcend Class 6 and that was the basis for my review of the card. In my opinion the upgrade from the Transcend Class 6 to the Transcend Class 10 was worth doing given the way I take photos (15 MP, ocassionally RAW).2) The Sandisk Extreme Class 10 card is faster than the Transcend Class 10 card when used in the camera to take pictures larger than 8 MP (the difference at 8 MP is 5% which is not, in my opinion, significant). Clearly the difference between the Transcend Class 10 and the Sandisk Class 10 is significant although the user would have to determine if the 10% and 13% differences were worth the difference in price (the Sandisk 8 GB Class 10 is more expensive than the Transcend 16 GB Class 10). Given the way I use my camera I feel it is not worth the difference in price, but others may feel differently.3) The difference in speeds between the Transcend Class 10 and the Sandisk Extreme Class 10, when used in the camera, are very different than the theoretical differences given the posted speeds. Given those posted speeds, a user might well expect that the Sandisk Extreme would be about 30-35% faster, but it is not and one has to assume that the difference is caused by the speed of the camera hardware and software.I rated this card as 5 stars although the extra speed was not significant enough for me to justify the extra cost. Still, the card is faster than my Transcend Class 10.

First I should confess that I don't really know how to judge the quality of a memory card. But these come highly recommended by Nikon and I find the 8GB holds a lot. I haven't had any problems so I'm happy with the SanDisk Extreme SDHC memory cards. On the other hand, I've used a cheaper Kingston card with the same features and it worked well too. One thing though, I would first check with your camera manufacturer to see what they recommend.

Works great. Have had it for a year so far and it's still working good. Sometimes on my camera I do get a delay with this card but it's only if I've been taking multiple shots for a long period of time or the camera starts getting low on battery. Aside from that, which don't get me wrong is a huge annoyance when it happens, it fulfills its purpose.

I am using a Nikon D90. I bought two of those Sandisk Extreme Class 10 cards (1 - 8gb and 1 - 16gb) because of the video showing it to be so fast in the Nikon D90 camera. I tried it in my Nikon D90 and the results weren't so good. It would run a while and then pause for a second. It did not run fast through 100 images like it did in the video at the front of this listing. I finally put the camera in the Continuous Auto Focus Mode and that made all the difference. It now runs through 100 pics in nothing flat (26 sec).Today, just to see the difference, I put my 16mb Transcend Class 6 Card in the camera and did the same test. The camera was set to Continuous Auto Focus just like before. Well, guess what? It took 100 pictures at 4.5 frames per second just like the Sandisk Class 10 card did! I did the test in JPEG Fine. I don't know if RAW would act any different. After doing the test I'm not sure the Sandisk Cards are any faster than the Transcend Class 6 cards are. In the comments area I posted the link to YouTube for the video testing the Nikon D90 with the Transcend Class 6 card.I'm not sure from my testing whether the Sandisk Extreme Cards are any faster than the Class 6 cards. Mine doesn't seem to be any faster.Update:6/12/2010Someone gave me a link to a program that checks flash drives to see their read/write speed and it also makes checks the card for capacity. The program is called H2TEST, and can be found by doing a search. With this program I was able to check my flash drives from Sandisk and Transcend. It explains why my Transcend 16gb Class 6 will take 100 pictures in 23 seconds with the Nikon D90 Camera, just like the Sandisk Cards did. At the same time it tells me that the write/read speeds with the Sandisk Extreme 8 and 16gb cards are very disappointing, to say the least. Two of the Transcend Class 6 (16gb) cards are almost as fast as the Sandisk Extreme high priced cards. In fact, in two of the three Transcend Cards the read times are faster than on the Sandisk Cards. The Sandisk cards are in no way able to read/write at 30MB/s like they claim. They write at 10.2mb/s on the 8gb card and 10.1MB/s on the 16gb card. If you don't know the speed of your card, download and use the H2TEST software to check it out for yourself. Here are the test results on my 5 cards:Sandisk Extreme 8gb card Write 10.2mb/s Read 11.9mb/sSandisk Extreme 16gb card Write 10.1mb/s Read 11.0mb/sTranscend 16gb Class 6 #1 Write 8.2mb/s Read 10.5mb/sTranscend 16gb Class 6 #2 Write 9.61mb/s Read 12.1mb/sTranscend 16mb Class 6 #3 Write 9.71mb/s Read 12.1mb/sAs you can see the Sandisk cards are faster, but just barely. Not enough faster that it justifies the high cost. If I had to do it over again and know what I know now, I would buy Class 6 or Class 10 cards instead of the very overpriced Sandisk Extreme cards. It would be nice if someone would run the same test on the Transcend Class 10 cards and see how they perform. These cards are Class 10 cards which run at 10mb/second and nowhere near the 30mb/s they are advertised to run. In their defense, it seems like the Sandisk Cards are running at a class 10 rate, but the Transcend cards (2 of them) are also running at or near the class 10 rate. It seems that I have a couple of fast class 6 Transcend cards.Update: 6/14/2010I have come to the conclusion that my card reader might be the problem and have ordered a different card reader. A while back I ordered one of those cheap card readers sold on Amazon (less than $1), and when I did the H2TEST on it, it was much slower (5mb/s) than the card reader I am using now (10mb/s). I am currently using a Transcend cheap card reader. The new card reader I ordered is supposed to work well with the new high speed Sandisk cards. Here is thte link to it. ImageMate® Multi-Card USB 2.0 Reader We will see if it makes a difference. My computer is also not the latest or greatest. That could be the problem too.

This card works great. The upgrade to high performance is noticeable when recording and playing videos on the camera. We have a cheaper SD that is so slow with videos. This one is great. It was delivered quickly and was in perfect condition.

Ужасно
I decided that the other reviewers who said they received the Video version (x46) must have just chosen the wrong supplier.Sure enough, I also received the wrong card, the Video version which was NOT the one pictured at the time I ordered this and definitely NOT the P31.I understand that occasionally Amazon may mess up with the incorrect pics with some of their zillions of products. They may even get the item descriptions off a bit i.e. color etc. They may also have incorrect Model Numbers. To have all three at one time is something odd and certainly has lowered my confidence in ordering at will and whim. However, here it comes, to have a supplier (in this case several different suppliers) sending out the same incorrect version to Amazon customers when they have the specific code that identifies an item is plain wrong. This is clearly labeled as SanDisk 8GB Extreme SDHC Class 10 High Performance Memory Card SDSDX3-008G-P31.So if you go ahead and order, expect to receive this inferior and much slower memory card for your digital cameras. If you do indeed receive the P31 or A31, come back and add your comments to my review and let me know which of the Amazon suppliers you specifically got to send you the correct card because I still want one.NOTE: I did receive a paid return label, excellent communication, and prompt refund from "Everything But Stromboli" supplier. They also said that they did not have this card as it was not being made anymore.Good luck in your quest for the P31/A31 at a reasonable price.
