Very good, crisp & bright monitor, however I can't get it to run at any more than 60 Hz, in _any_ resolution, this is disappointing me. There isn't any good paper documentation with it, and the online docs are harder to follow than other products that I've used. An internal power supply is a plus for this monitor, and you can rotate it. I also use the dual input to my advantage, and have one system on the DVI and another on the analog, and it makes it easy to have two computers use the single display to minimize desk clutter of another monitor. There is a pin in the back that you need to remove to raise the monitor up and down, it's very stubborn and you feel like you're going to break something when removing it, but it will come out with some effort.I may sound like I'm ripping on this product quite a bit, But I really do love it, it's certainly got the best picure of any monitor I've used, and it takes up next to no space on my desk and offers a clean way to clear up my workspace. I am considering getting one or two more of these for a multi monitor setup.

I've had the Samsung 910T 19" LCD monitor (black) for over two months now, and it is great. Mine arrived with no dead pixels and it as clear today as it was when I bought it. Plug and play all the way. While the monitor supports both analog and digital, I use it in analog mode since my computer doesn't support the superior digital mode. I haven't used the monitor rotating function which allows you to rotate the screen 90 degrees for a portrait view. I am at my computer 8 hours a day with no problems. There are two versions of the stand, one is kind of a v-shaped wedge and the other is perpendicular. The difference is cosmetic. I was the third person at my job to get this screen, and since then, three others have bought this.

After owning both the 172X and 173P, I must say I definitely prefer the 173P. The picture is sharper, the viewing angle is wider, and the included stand has a much larger range of motion, not to mention the excellent pivoting feature. On the 172X, unless you're looking at it dead on, the picture can become washed out. With the 173P, the picture seems to stay clear no matter what the angle. The importance of this cannot be underestimated! It's quite annoying when you're only a couple feet off to the side and the picture looks poor.As for the stands, the 173P has about twice the height adjustment range of the 172X. I couldn't get the 172X more than inch or so above my keyboard, and that's just too low for me.I thought the lack of external controls would be a problem, but it really isn't. The auto adjustment mode works great, and the most I've had to do is a brightness and contrast tweak with the included MagicTune software, which isn't that bad. You can uninstall it once the monitor settings are to your liking. The 172X does have a faster response time, but for my purposes, image quality is more important. Even with the 25ms response time of the 173P, most reviews say it still works well with games and movies. To me, it was definitely worth the small price jump!

*** SURGEON'S WARNING: Reading this might lead you to purchase a near-four digit display even by maxing your card so read it at your own peril ***I have been using a 19" CRT(18" viewable Hitachi 753) for the last four years with a DELL: a couple of days ago, I had enough of the dry eyes from its constant use, so I sold it and got the 191T(under-pressure splurge?). It was sad to see it go(like selling a child...) and the purchase of such an expensive item on decisions made alone from the internet reviews was a very very tense experience(well, there aren't many stores that has the expensive LCDs displayed with all those cheaper LCDs around). HOWEVER, after a days use of the 191T, I can tell you this: get this if you can. This is one 'huge' monitor in terms of the screen size: there has been only an inch increase from my previous monitor, but coupled with about 1/5 of the depth of the monitor, it really looks like a floating picture frame. There seems to be one dead on the top left but disregardable, and brightness(500:1) was so good that I had to turn it down: I later found out that the initial setup for the two had been at only 50%! The colors are lusciously vivid: it is not like that poking, somewhat tiresome sharpness that CRT displays. I liked the tone of the colors so much that I got some post-impressionist drawings(Monet et al) as my new screen saver. By the way, the screen's response from fast movement was negligible: sure, some hate LCDs for slow response rate, but with 25ms(that is milliseconds), the 191T has the one of the lowest to date and it shows. Skipping all the technical specifications that you readers by now will know(after scrolling through all the internet sites), the price might be somewhat hard to swallow: I was-[$$$] purchase was not an easy one to make, more so being a student. Also, the difference between saying 'a few hundred dollar monitor' and 'a thousand dollar monitor' to onlookers("WHAT?") was so great, I agonized over purchasing the 191T and the lesser sibling, the 181T(18inch). Both are technically and in shape the same, besides the 191T having a 19inch screen, an adapter(the 181T incorporated it inside) and a few things. However, the price difference between the two as low as [$$$], the 191T is hard to beat. Sure, some say that 19 inch at a fixed resolution of 1280*1024 is somewhat much, but for me, it is worth it and the 191T handles it superbly. Just to let you know that just because the LCDs has fixed resolutions does not mean that they cannot show lower ones: it is just that it cannot utilize the whole screen. The looks of the 191T are fabulous: 19mm silver frame, and the compactness of the depth, the lightness(the 19" CRT was as heavy as a baby elephant, whereas the 191T is as light as a dame), and the joy of staring at the whole new world of colors without pains from lengthy use is just dazzling and wonderful: hey, I do have a 14" LCD on my 4-year old laptop and UC Berkeley has tons of LCDs here and there so this is not my first LCD experience, but the 191T is just it. At prices now coming below [$$$] for 191Ts compared to other 18"(yes, 18"!) LCDs that costs more(i.e. NEC-Mitsubishi), the 191T(and also 181T) are the Lexuses of the LCDs: affordable luxury. It is just flat out brilliant, literally.

I recently purchased the Samsung 173p, looking forward to using its pivot function for word processing, seeing the whole page by pivoting the monitor 90 degrees. Pivot Pro software came bundled with the monitor, which was supposedly necessary for enabling what you see on screen to make the 90 degree shift along with the hardware.Immediately, I ran into a serious pivoting problem. Whenever I turned the monitor off, with it remaining in the 90 degree position, it would not work properly when I turned it back on. Instead, it would come on stuck in the lowest possible resolution, too low even to show normal images on the screen. I would have to delete the Pivot Pro software in order to get the monitor functioning properly again.I discovered an effective solution. While waiting for Pivot Pro tech support to respond with a solution, I downloaded the latest graphics card driver from the NVIDIA web page. My graphics card is the aging NVIDIA GeForce 2 mx/mx 400. It turns out that the new driver contains the pivot function! It works with my monitor more efficiently than the Pivot Pro software did, and there are no problems! Ironically, the tech support solution, which I received a day later, was to download upgraded graphics card drivers from NVIDIA.I tried the same thing with my monitor at work, and it worked beautifully also. It is the Dell ultrasharp 1703, with the NVIDIA GeForce 5200 graphics card. This is without any Pivot Pro software being anywhere near that computer.I have read that the latest ATI Radeon grahics card driver update contains the pivot function also, but I have no experience with an ATI graphics card. Finally, the Samsung 173p is definitely cool. But, the price needs to come down.

As usual, I did due diligence and spent a couple weeks comparing and pricing EVERYthing available in 19" LCD monitors, and I'm VERY pleased with the results. I am a photographer, and the difference between my old Dell LCD monitor (whoever makes those) and this Samsung 910T is stunning! I also invested in a digital video card for true digital output and can't stop smiling at the overall result. Amazon had a great price ($599) which is about $200 less than Dell wants. There were a couple sites where I could have saved $30-40 on this item, but they all had lousy customer ratings. Thanks Amazon, once again, for an awesome product and deal!

The SM 910t uses old LCD technology which results in slow response time (25 ms is no longer acceptable today) and poor viewing angle compared to many better LCD monitors from companies like NEC and BenQ and Sharp. In fact, you'll get a much better monitor at a much better price if you check out the 19" monitors from Sceptre and AG Neovo, two relatively new brands that nonetheless are selling LCDs of very high quality. Steer away from last-generation monitors like this one.E-mail me if you have any LCD questions.

I bought the Samsung 910T monitor to replace my 17" inch CRT, the difference is amazing! Awesome picture, colors, sharpness, and brightness. Setup was very easy, no dead pixels. I did a lot of research, my brother has a viewsonic vp191b, which is considered one of the best monitors in the market, I am so glad I bought this one instead, I compared them both next to each other, and no noticeable differences between them, in fact the 910T Text looked much better , and paying about 150 bucks less, I think I did the right choice.I sure recommend this monitor, I am in love with mine.

I'm an average computer user - mainly MS Office apps, photoediting, and Internet, but the switch from CRT for these simple computing tasks is amazing. The color and clarity are unbelievable. But my favorite feature is the pivot function. WOW! Why didn't someone think of that a long time ago? I LOVE being able to read my email, Word docs, and web sites on one screen, with little to no scrolling. And I was able to plug and play. I've read some reviews about PivotPro not working correctly, but I haven't had any problems whatsoever (I use WinXP Pro), including leaving it in portrait view when I turn it off and back on. One more thing - and this may be picky - but I didn't want a black monitor. My office is light and bright, and this monitor is very aesthetically pleasing plus super thin. I also haven't made any adjustments, except for setting it to 1280x1024 res.I bought this product sight unseen based on reviews, and I couldn't be happier. I haven't needed the DVI capability yet, but wanted to have a digital-capable product for future needs. This LCD IS kinda pricey, but I'll have it for years. Great investment.

Graphics are bright and sharp. Contrast is great. Nice large viewing area (I'm used to CRTs that say they're 19" but the actual viewing area is more like 18"). For some reason text was fuzzy at first, but then I stumbled upon the "auto" adjustment for contrast and brightness and now the text is perfect too. Pivot feature works surprisingly well and will come in handy for page layout where a vertical format is better. I love this monitor!

Some else reviewed this monitor before me and complained that at resolutions other than 1280x1024 the text was blurry. Well, guess what? That's normal for this LCD. In fact, all LCD have the same issue, let me explain. All LCD monitors have what's called a "native resolution". The native resolution is the resolution the monitor was built, designed, and meant to be used at. If you use it at any other resolution you get lower performance, like blurry text, ghosting and other issues. When you use the monitor correctly by running it at it's native resolution of 1280x1024 with a 60Hz refresh rate, everything will look perfect. Trying to use the monitor at any other resolution other that the native resolution for that particular LCD will not hurt the monitor, but you will notice things look a bit blurry. It's a limitation of LCD technology, not of this particular monitor, all LCDs have this limitation!I have the Dell 1900FP, which is just a relabeled 191T. I was lucky enough to get a monitor with no stuck pixels and I love this thing. Since I run it at it's native resolution it has razor sharp text. It is much brighter than my old CRT monitor was. Geometry and other problems with the picture filling the whole screen are non-existent due to the auto-adjust button which automaticaaly adjusts the screen to fill the entire screen.I occasionally notice some ghosting while playing games like Quake3, but it's not really that bad. Considering what I've seen on some other LCD monitors, the ghosting on the 191T is not a problem. This is another LCD technology limitation that occurs with all of the larger LCDs made today. Until the response time of LCD monitors drop on larger LCDs you will be able to notice "ghosting". Even so I didn't find it to be a problem on this monitor. The thin bezel is a big plus and once I have the money I will be picking up a second 191T. I've seen others with three of these monitors in triple-head and is looks very nice. The thin bezel makes it possible to watch DVDs and play games in multi-monitor setups and have it look ok.

It's been up since November 2003, right about the same time it was officially released in the U.S.http://alumni.imsa.edu/~agent006/173P/index.htmBy the way, apparently there is actually a way to switch input modes via hardware. Just put your finger on the power button and hold it there for a few seconds. The output changes automatically.

The Syncmaster 173S that I very recently purchased is doing fine. However I wouldn't know who to blame for the broken pixels, but most likely Samsung. The constant black dot and then the blue and red one I see every so often are a bit annoying, but supposedly most LCDs come with it. It's too much of a pain to exchange it and demand for a new one or for it to be fixed, but that's a personal preference. Overall though, the crispness and clarity is amazing and i'm satisfied with that. I'd prefer the neck to have more flexibility. Size is decent at this stage in technology~

I wish I could give this monitor a good review. However, after 2 defective ones in a row, I simply cannot recommend it.My first monitor kept losing the picture. After 15 or so minutes, the screen would go blank. I would have to power the monitor down and back up to get the picture back. I thought this might be a fluke, but this kept happening after 15 to 30 minutes. I plugged my old monitor back in to make sure it wasn't my video card -- it worked perfectly. Another hookup to the LCD and the picture went out again. The cables were secure. I took it back.My second monitor unfortunately had quite a few stuck-on pixels. A stuck-on pixel is where a pixel is always 'on' while viewing the screen even when the video source does not have instruction to be on. For example, a completely black screen had different pixels or "dots" that were always lit. It was like viewing the night sky with blue and green stars (no red ones...For what I could see with the monitor itself, the picture was very crisp and bright. It is much brighter than my 17" Samsung 171V that I currently own on another PC. I tried several resolutions, and only the native 1280x1024 had clear text. 1024x768 and 1280x960 both had blurry text. Some DVD tests I ran on it were quite good, and the response time was good enough to keep up. The monitor is very lightweight and takes up very little space. I honestly wish I could have received one without problems.I may still consider this monitor after getting over the bad quality of the first two. I would give quality 1 star and performance (when working) 5 stars, averaging a 3-star rating from me. I would highly recommend buying it from somewhere that had a good return and exchange policy. Some e-tailers out there do not think dead or stuck-on pixels are a problem until they run up beyond 5 (or even 8 at one place). One bright, stuck-on pixel in the center 60% of the screen is unacceptable to me. The picture was excellent and this would be a good buy except for the defects, so buy at your own risk!

It's a great monitor except for the software that replaces the usual buttons for brightness, contrast etc. The idea of replacing the buttons with SW may make some sense but Samsung has made a poor implementation. Every time I log in, the Samsung SW will put an hour-glass in the middle of the screen for up to 30 seconds while it communicates with the monitor over DVI. I really don't know what it is doing, because it does not even restore the view settings I last used, they are always set to the default values. Hopefully this will be resolved in a SW update sometime.Except for the problems mentioned above it is a great monitor. It has a little ghosting when playing fast action games, but not too severe. The package includes a DVI cable and using that the picture is crystal clear with very nice colors.

It's kind of different to have space on my desk. This is perfect for what I needed, it has a great picture and works well with games. I even checked CNET for reveiws on this and they had no Cons and said you would usually pay more for a model like this. I have Windows XP for a operating system so it was easy to set up. According to the manual any Windows or Mac would be easy. I adjusted the brightness to 50% since it was originaly to bright for me and it looks good. Worth the price

Samsung has been an active topic of LCD display reviews on Bytesector in the past. Today we bring you a review on one of Samsungs' latest LCD monitors, the 173P. This display brings many key features to the table and delivers them in a great device. First of all, this is sort of the 171P the continuation in the "17 inch P series". This display comes with the highest contrast ratio I have seen in an LCD display yet; with a 700:1 ratio, they are no mistaking greys for whites or blacks. The back of this monitor is a nice pure white which leads us to believe that there was a bit of an Apple influence in the design of this display! Read on to find out what we think of this display.
