great monitor, good price, i have owned mine for the better part of two years now. i have recommended it to all my friends, and four others have the same one and they seem very happy with it. Clear text, and fantastic picture quality. everything is included and although it does the Pivot deal with the picture, never really used it. it has adjustable height and tilt. only problem with this monitor is i cannot find another one. Samsung has other models out but this one is discontinued. i'd recommend this monitor for anyone that spends SERIOUS time in front of the computer.

I just got the monitor yesterday. After plugging into my computer, I found the monitor was too bright. Unfortunately, my graphics card has no option to adjust the brightness, so I had to adjust the brightness to 0 on the monitor. Some menu controls, color for example, were "Not Available." It came with a base which cannot swirl. I could not see 3D-feel on small icons as they used to be on my 20" CRT monitor, but large pictures were great.

I love Samsung LCD's for many reasons. This one is a multi-functional one. As the specs suggests it has a built in TV TUNER so you can watch TV when you are tired of graphic design or while you are still designing:) It comes with built in speakers that are much better quality than I was expecting in from built in speakers. As a PC monitor the price is well justified: Very good picture quality, nice speakers, intuitive menu, fast response time -yes, fast means no ghosting during games-, uniform color throughout the screen. As an LCD TV it is better than average but not excellent or anything close to excellent. However, it gets the job done quite nicely. If you have a lot of money to spend it has a sibling called 930MP which is superior to this one. Overall, I am very satisfied with what 910 MP can deliver.

I'm a digital artist and I wanted to spend more money on my machine rather than monitor, so I tried this one out and love it. I have two of them. They don't have a usb hub or anything like that. It is what it is.. a simple monitor that works great. Took a little tweaking to get the resolution and color right (with my mac) but its got great color and is just what I need. I'll probably get two more for my other system and dump my CRT's.

While I have no experience with other LCD monitors(I upgraded from a CRT) so far I have been pleasantly surprised with the color and sharpness of the 940B. I could not locate any dead pixels. I have read other reviews and agree that the display isbright, but with a little tweaking it is not overwhelming. No DVIcable was a shortcoming. Amazon delivery was outstanding! The monitor arrived about 5 days ahead of scheduled delivery. Thanks to all involved Gary J. Bloomsburg,PA

We really like our new Samsung SyncMaster 970P 19" LCD Monitor. It's very large and all the displays are easy to read and use. It is also quite flexible - I've been able to program my desktop in a way most easy for me to use. And the monitor itself, although large, is flat and doesn't take up a lot of desk space.

This is an excellent LCD monitor. After upgrading from my Benq FP581s - a 15 inch LCD, it is mind boggling. The Colours are great and the brightness just right - not overwhelming. I do Photography (digital) and so-far the results are great.I'd like to edit this review a little (Nov 06).Nice monitor and colours, but hard to match to printing, causes me a lot of pain.

As a monitor, this unit is very nice -- especially if you would like television as a picture-in-picture (at 20% of the full screen). However, as a fullscreen television it is not at all acceptable. Samsung would have done better to disable this feature and sold the item for what it actually can do.I wanted to replace both a TV and a monitor; this unit will NOT satisfactorily do that. A better alternative is to purchase an excellent LCD monitor at half the cost and use the rest of the money to apply toward a good television.

My old monitor burnt out; it was a Samsung 19" CRT. I now have more space on my desk and on my screen--strange?. After the first week, I did't notice I had a new moniter, unless someone mentions it to me: "Hey, you get a new moniter?".Notice, I'm not talking about problems.

I recently purchased two of the 173P displays for use in a dual-monitor setup. They are truly gorgeous, with respect to both image quality and exterior fit and finish.Unfortunately, Samsung's choice of the MagicTune software instead of a true hardware-based On-Screen-Display can be problematic. In my case, I wanted to calibrate the displays using my EyeOne system. Now, the first step in any good color calibration process is to accurately set the white point. I expected to use MagicTune to accomplish this, but found it sorely lacking. With a DVI-powered 173P I got no white point control--there was just nothing to click, a blank spot in the interface! Portrait Displays, the vendor that makes Display Tune (the software OSD rebranded by Samsung as MagicTune) says on their support site that "[the white point] sub menu may not function if you are using the digital connection of your graphics card and monitor".(Update: 2004-12-17)I finally got everything calibrated after using a DVI to VGA adapter to run both displays in analog mode. That enabled color controls for both monitors, so I could set the white point and calibrate as usual. Nevertheless, I was very disappointed that I was effectively unable to use my new monitors with DVI.I emailed Portrait Displays tech support, and they claimed that the reason color options are limited when running via DVI is that the 173P does not fully support DDC/CI (the VESA standard used to communicate the settings to the monitor) over DVI. Bummer! Some googling indicated that NEC/Mitsubishi may have a more robust software-only OSD solution. Their NaViSet program is advertised as working over DVI and VGA, on both Windows, OS X, and OS 9. (I have no personal experience with this product.) It might be worth considering an NEC or Mitsubishi monitor instead of the 173P if you want better compatibility with DVI or the Mac. However, the 173P gives beautiful (although untunable) images with Linux and the Mac after auto-adjustment, which is done by holding down the monitor's power on button for a few seconds. In spite of my ordeal, I really love the 173P and am satisfied. MagicTune is great when it works, but there are some significant shortcomings with the 173P that are not well documented by Samsung.(NB: my primary system runs Windows XP w/ a Radeon 9600XT)

I've only had the monitor for about a day now, but I was so impressed by it that I just ordered another one. The contrast and clarity is truly amazing. I've used many different LCD monitors and while my favorite continues to be the Apple 20" Cinema display, this is now my 2nd favorite (and as I am getting accustomed to the pivot feature, the Apple display may be in trouble...). Yes, it comes with a pivot display mount that not only allows you to raise, lower, tilt and turn the montior to any position imaginable, it also lets you rotate the screen 90 degrees to portrait mode. Unlike the more expensive rotatable monitors that have an 'auto-sensing' thingie which automatically switch your display output between portrait and landscape based on the position of the monitor, this one requires you to use a software utility (included) to manually select the orientation of the output. To be honest, I didn't even realize this was a feature on this monitor. I based my initial purchase decision on the manufacturer specs and price. Since this was intended to replace a 21" Sony CRT on my development PC, image quality was secondary to form factor and price. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the display and I was extremely pleased to discover the rotation feature. I was originally going to mount this monitor on a VESA arm, but after using the included stand, I'm having second thoughts. The stand itself is the best that I've ever seen on an LCD monitor. It allows for good cable management and almost infinite adjustability while not presenting a huge footprint. Anyway, so far, this seems to be an outstanding monitor for the price (actually cheaper than many crappier 17" LCDs I've seen). Though, you do need to shop around for the best price since I've seen it range from $549 to $800+. It's unusual to see such a wide range in the street price. I ended up getting it from Amazon because with the free 'super saver free shipping', it came out to be darn near the best deal (and I've had nothing but good experiences with Amazon so far). Conclusion - do NOT buy one of these monitors! At this price and value, you NEED to get at least two (dual monitor setups are shweeeeet!!). :-)

...a slight edge to the Viewsonic VP191, which is selling at about the same price point and is also rotatable (a truly priceless feature!). On the Internet though you can find this Samsung at about a hundred dollars less than the VP191.During the course of my extensive shopping around, I found that while the Samsung has a higher contrast ratio and higher brightness rating on paper, in reality the Viewsonic appears to be of about the same sharpness, and more importantly is significantly brighter! And yes, I did play with the monitor adjustment buttons of both monitors, the maximum brightness setting on the Samsung is equivalent to about 50% brightness on the Viewsonic. Go figure...is Samsung playing fast and loose with its specs? Or is the screen surface of the Viewsonic somehow "brighter" than that of the Samsung's? I'm not sure, but I am sure of what my eyes saw: Viewsonic offers a better picture.Otherwise, Samsungs do offer terrific bang for the buck. I have many friends who are quite happy with their Samsungs, and I have an old Samsung 17" CRT which has held up well over a couple years' heavy usage. In short, when you compare Samsung monitors to the really cheap 300 dollar off-brands, in my opinion the extra hundred or so you spend for the Samsung is well worth it for most people's uses. Both the Samsung and Viewsonic easily beat out the Sony LCDs though, even though the Sonys are usually more expensive. This surprised me because I find their TVs are still top-notch.

I bought this LCD monitor because a number of places have given it excellent reviews. I also had a Samsung 191T, which I really liked. However, I needed to get a new monitor to replace that one, and unfortunately, the 910T does not measure up. The problem here is ghosting, and this is not even when you play games with fast moving images. The ghosting is when you just move the mouse cursor across the screen. The mouse arrow smears, and you see something like a vapor trail of mouse cursors. This is extremely annoying. After some research, most places have said that this ghosting is due to the slow 25ms response time on the 910T. However, I remember that my old 191T had the same response time, and this issue was not noticeable at all. Another thing is that the ghosting issue is better when you use the DVI (or digital) line as opposed to the Analog link. When I use DVI, the mouse cursor still ghosts, but it's not as noticeable and bearable to where I'll keep the monitor. However, I'm still very disappointed because the 191T didn't ghost this much in analog mode. One good point is that the colors look very nice on the monitor probably due to the 1000:1 contrast ratio. Another thing is that every thing looks sharper on DVI. For example, when I'm in Windows explorer, the filenames look blurry in analog, but sharper in digital. I guess the moral of the story is that you better have a DVI port in your video card if you buy this monitor.

The Samsung 173P is easy to set up. Just take it out of the box, plug in the power, then connect the LCD to your PC just like you'd plug in a normal CRT monitor. Then power up your PC and enjoy! The 173P's out of the box setting is a little bright. Luckily, they give you a driver to install (on a CD), and two great programs, Magic Tune and Natural Color.Magic Tune lets you adjust the resolution, brightness and contrast then save them as presets. You can change your monitor preset by right clicking on the desktop and pick one of the presets you've saved.Natural Color lets you adjust the color of your monitor to the ambient light level and light source (daylight or incandescent, or whatever). It really takes the colors of your LCD to the next level. You can also match the color of the 173P to your printed output, but I haven't tried that yet.Benefits of the 173P are:- more screen real estate than a 17 inch monitor- significantly less eye strain- text is easier to read.- frees up desk space. For editing digital pictures, a high quality CRT is likely going to beat out the 173P by a little. However, for general home or business use, this monitor rocks! The 173P fit and finish is very classy. This LCD monitor for the money is well worth tossing your 17 inch monitor out or keep it as a boat anchor.

Its looks great, works great, easy set up, and easy to use. I purchased this model after looking at many LCD Tv's. 19" is a perfect size for watching tv and monitor use. It saves on so much space being able to combine two electronics into one. The PIP feature is awesome. I tend to use that more while working on the computer. Contrast, response time, color and everything else are all right on target. I had a Sony flat screen monitor prior to this which I loved. To save on space, I purchased this and glad I did. The monitor looks exactually like my old one. Slim and stylish, while maximizing desktop space and giving bright and colorful images. You would never think there is a tv inside of this. Built in speakers are a huge plus and also save on desk space. Setup was a breeze. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to save on desk space, whether in a bedroom, den, kitchen or anywhere else you use these two electronics.

Samsung 191T 19" LCD Monitor ReviewFriday, November 22, 2002I love my new 191T. Some history. I had previously used a 21" Mitsubishi 91TXM [aperture grill model] since 1996 till this year when it started flaking out and fluctuating in brightness.I decided to get my feet wet in the LCD world in March 2002 with the best bang for the buck 15" monitor at the time. That was the KDS Rad-5. The KDS performed admirably; it showed me the wonders of no more eye strain when using a TFT monitor. Some niggling concerns emerged over time of course w/ an entry level monitor like this: there was no portrait swivel [though I did splurge for a stand alone stand that does it], no DVI connection, 35ms refresh rate, colors were not as saturated and vibrant as a CRT. I had been monitoring the 19" LCD segment for some time, waiting for an appropriate price point / performance convergence. That came when I saw the multiple award winning Samsung 191T hit [money]. Monitors are about the only things I tend to buy locally, and my CompUSA had a few of these. So I carted it home, pleasantly amused that I could carry it briefcase style in one hand, remembering my battles moving around of the 21" Mitsubishi. After unpacking, I connected the cables up to my Matrox Parhelia 512. The Matrox has a DVI output which allowed me to go straight Digital to Digital w/out the need for an analogue conversion step. I hooked up my KDS to the second head of the Parhelia and the third head to my Apex 20" TV.First thing I noticed after getting the drivers installed was w/ the DVI connection, all monitor adjustments including color temp. are 'taken care of' for you. I knew this obliquely from reading all the reviews, you cannot alter geometry and other settings in DVI mode. That's fine because, damn, it looks good. The 191T's native resolution is 1280x1024x32x60HZ. I have never run at 1280 before because on my Mitsubishi it made things too small and caused even more eye strain. I was leery about how things would look on the TFT since the KDS runs at 1024x768 natively which I also use to run the Mitsu. However, my fears were unfounded, the text looks great, it's still 96DPI in WinXP but I don't have any problem reading it on the 191T which is great.Second thing I noticed compared to the KDS was that the colors were extremely vibrant and saturated. This was a gripe w/ the KDS. The contrast on the 191T is 500:1, on the KDS it's 350:1 so this is very noticeable in Mame32 vertical games where if you play in landscape mode, you've got the two black 'letterbox' bars on each side of the image. The Samsung is brighter than my CRT, it's really beautiful to watch a game with strong colors like the CPS2 Vampire series, or Last Blade.Another claim to fame for the 191T is its super thin bezel, as can be seen in these images, it's extremely elegant and well laid out. The base allows for rotation so games can be played in portrait mode if desired. Sad to say, I actually find myself being too lazy to actually rotate it; so they're played in the old style in landscape. Refresh times are spec'ed at less than 25ms. The lower the refresh rate, the less likely the ghosting effect that continues to plague LCDs to some degree. I found the 191T to be little better than the KDS, the degree of betterness, heh, perhaps affected by the larger amount of pixels that need to be pushed around. All said, it's personal preference and tolerance level for the ghosting, I don't think it's that bad since I only play Mame32 and Links 2003, a golf game which is static.I have been extremely impressed with this monitor so far, I've quickly gotten used to having more onscreen real estate in my daily work as well. The jump from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 affords a nice increase in visibility. This monitor is a current top performer in its bracket, I don't have any trouble recommending it.

I bought this as a second monitor, and as such it performs nicely. The price was right ($320 after rebates), and it's one of the thinnest 17" moniitors I've seen. Image quality is nice, and contrast ratio is better than many models, but it's a big dissapointment that there are drivers available for all versions of Windows and even Linux, but no Mac driver! (so Mac users won't be able to use the main feature of this monitor, its ability to rotate 90 degrees to display a page in portrait orientation, or control the brightness (which I assume the software driver could do, but I can't install it, so I'm stuck faking it with my system monitor control).Samsung's tech support is dicey too. After several automated replies telling me to use a Macintosh adapter to make it work on my Mac (works fine; it's the software driver I asked about, nitwit!), I finally reached a human who told me what I already knew; Samsung doesn't offer one.I give this a marginal thumbs-up, but only if you get it under $350 (the average price of a non-pivoting 17" LCD)

Pros: Saves space, can act as a TV, ability to connect VCR etc, using line input.Cons: Mediocre display quality, discoloration in lower half of the screen, Only displays 1280x1024 at 75HZ refresh rate. Speaker sound ok, nothing spectacular. Lacks DVI input, has only Standard Analog display connector. TV picture and captioning fuzzy, strains eyes after watching for some time.Recommendation: If you are a techno-geek, you will notice this short comings and return it. Save yourself some trouble and either buy standalone Samsung LCD monitor or spend more and buy 930MP for better performance and quality.

When used with my PC the display is sharp, bright, and the colors are very lifelike. There is no top to bottom color shift and there are no bright spots or dead pixels. This is a great product and well worth your consideration. There was basically no setup required. I just plugged it in and voila!

Now my new CRT looks sad next to this new Samsung LCD, so I'll be buying the 19 inch version to go with it. The color and sharpness of this monitor blows away all the monitors I've seen at work (I work in IT) or in stores. I also play Desert Combat on this monitor, and ghosting hasn't been a problem. Don't buy a cheap LCD, spend a few extra bucks and get quality.

I've had this monitor for a week and I love it. It's attractive, bright, sharp, and relatively inexpensive. It's the purchase I've been happiest with in a long time. I even ordered it with FREE Super Saver Shipping and it arrived two days after I ordered it. I originally thought that I would switch back and forth between the landscape and portrait modes (which is easy to do with the supplied software), but it hasn't left portrait mode since I put it there. Portrait's just better for every application (web browsing, reading PDFs, working in Word, programming...). I guess it's not better for watching movies, but I don't do that on the computer. I highly recommend trying a monitor that can rotate like this.So far my father and a friend have seen my monitor and both immediately bought it too. (My father also bought it on Amazon with the cheapest shipping and it arrived within two days.)I can see one bad pixel on mine, but I think that's not uncommon with large LCDs. It only shows up on a black background, not one white, so it's mostly unnoticeable.

Don't be fooled by Samsung's reputation - those days are gone. I have been using 152T for more than 2 years and it was excellent. But this model, in particular, is full of problems. I bought one, and had to send it back for replacement (twice), yet each replacement comes with new defects (unbalanced brightness, noisy panel etc). Imagine: 3 defective units in a row (all brand new), does that give you any idea about its manufacturing quality? I ended up with a refurbished unit from Samsung, which is mediocre in quality (the panel is *not* as clear and as bright as a new unit). If you want to take the risk, go ahead. But I wouldn't recommend it.

I wanted an LCD with top image quality for precise photo editing, as well as general use. The 173P was above average in price, but the image quality is outstanding. I use the DVI input at the native resolution of 1280x1024 and it looks great. In my opinion, the image quality is the best of any monitor I have seen. Contrast, color, and angle of view are all excellent.I was worried about color and tonal accuracy when editing my images because many serious photographers recommend against LCD monitors for photo editing. These "experts" must be behind the times because my images on the 173P come the closest I have experienced to looking at my original slides on a light table. I calibrated with an eye-one display calibrator, but even before calibration I would rate the color accuracy as excellent.I also use this monitor for text and gaming. Text looks great and is very readable, especially using ClearType on Windows XP. When gaming, I don't see any visible ghosting or other motion artifacts, so the response time must be adequate. As you can tell, I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. I'm a picky buyer and usually have some nits to pick with almost anything I buy, but after 2 months of use I am 100% satisfied with this monitor. Not only does the image on the screen look great, the monitor itself has a very elegant design. It looks clean and simple and has a great range of position and angle adjustments. My 173P doesn't have a single bad pixel. You can get a cheaper LCD if you only want to use it for text, but if you want the best, you won't be disappointed with this one.
