Bought the Samsung HD204UI because it was the first triple platter 2TB available. The theoretical benefits are cooler, faster and more reliable than an equivalent four platter drive. I certainly can measure that it's cooler and faster than equivalent drives. Turns out to be very reliable too. According to hundreds of user reviews on another leading site, there are remarkable few DOAs and failures.As of this time, there's no question that this is the leading drive in the non-enterprise drive category. Congratulations to Samsung for being first out with a 2TB triple platter and still providing industry leading reliability.Update 11-Dec-2010: There's a firmware update on Samsung's site ...[...]

Replaced the original 500GB Hard Drive in my Time Capsule with this 2TB beast. After installing the hard drive, you must use Airport Utility in manual mode to erase the hard drive. I thought that the Time Capsule would automatically format it, but it didn't.The speed of the drive is not important, since hard drive access is bottlenecked by the speed of the wireless and Ethernet connections. What's important is low energy use and thereby lowered heat output.

Великолепно

Bought this drive when my main desktop drives (Seagate 1.0 / 1.5 tb drives) started dropping like flies. The price / gig was excellent. The drive runs quiet and cool. Not super fast but not dog slow. Makes a great storage drive for video (I process 1080i HD video using 2 of these drives). Would definitely buy this drive again.

I would not buy this again. It died after one month and 1.5 TB of data with it. Good thing it was only tv shows but won't trust it again and i have to pay for RMA return shipping. Sucks.BTW, this drive was noisy but had decent access times. Replaced it with 1.5 TB WD EARS which is very quiet.

Великолепно

This is a fantastic drive. The SATA 6GB/s speed is useful for me especially since I have a motherboard that uses this speed. been working like a champ.

This drive may not be immediately recognized by your computer. But it's not DOA. Try booting with your operating system's CD. It should see it then.

I get 130MB/s - 100MB/s writes over SATA, and the drive stays cold. I think you can safely use this drive without a fan, which is great. My only complaint: the drive I received makes an audible high-pitched sound (probably ~15000hz), so if you have sensitive ears like me, you might not want this as one of your primary drives.
