It is a beautiful, quick, light, and easy to use tablet for an excellent price.
It works efficiently and the screen is large enough to comfortably play games and stream shows/movies. The battery is long lasting, I can stream shows and play games nearly all day without needing to plug in. I leave a show on while I fall asleep and it lasts through the whole night! I am able to hook up my Xbox controller and play games like Stardew Valley and Minecraft without lag. The screen is bright enough that I am able to play outside with it in the sun, making it great to play at the pool or just relaxing outside. It is comfortable to hold and use.
The only drawback I can think of for this tablet is that sometimes the screen can have input lag (like if I try to draw on it with a stylus, it sometimes won't read it right away and that can get frustrating) and it's a little outdated for Galaxy products. Also, there is no built in blue light filter/night light which was a little upsetting at first, but fortunately there are apps you can download to apply that.
Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this tablet if you don't want to splurge on a more pricy tablet. I do recommend getting a case with a stand like the one I have photo'd, that did not come with the tablet.
Pros:
Amazing and huge Screen
4 speakers that get super loud
Able to move apps on SD card with new update
USB-C port
Super responsive to touch (even with a glass screen protector on)
Samsung Kids is a great addition to making the tablet more kid-friendly
Came with a 64 gb SD card so I didn't have to buy one
Set up is easy (but maybe it's because we only own Samsung products)
Cons:
Battery life only seems slightly better than the Tab A
Takes 4 hours to charge
Blue Light Filter is terrible imo (works better on Galaxy phones than non-Amoled tablets)
Some apps exclusively use Internal Storage so I'm glad I bought the 64 GB version
Slight lag, but only happened once or twice when I played around on the tablet
All in all, this was a great buy for my daughter's needs.
We plug the tablet in now - 6 months later - move it around along w/ the cords, careful not to jiggle the actual end in the port - until we actually see a lightening bolt that means it’s charging. 5-10 minutes later when we finally achieve lightening bolt stahtus, we carefully and oh-so-gently put the pad down in the place and position it decided to charge in on this particular evening (and hold our breath the lightening bolt doesn’t disappear when we let go of the tablet, which it does 50% of the time and we have to start this process all over again).
Once we know it’s safe to step away from the tablet for the night, we go about our day (or evening) falsely believing the pad is properly charging in place. But NOOOOOOO.... just yesterday it was left to charge a full 8 hours and it only had 85% charge! 16 hours after than and it had GONE DOWN to only 15%! (And yes, I TRIPLE checked for lightening bolt status after checking the battery life the 1st time.)
Someone suggested it could be the cord or the the cube that came with it that plugs into the outlet? So we tried changing the cube since we have so many lying around. That seemed to make it charge faster for a few days, until yesterday’s episode. Help! Do I need a new cord? Or do I need a new tablet?
This is the lowest price table of acceptable quality I have found.
I experienced two minor annoyances:
It seems that it does not always go to sleep properly and then I have to charge it before I expect. I still haven't worked out if that's my fault for picking the wrong setting somewhere or not closing my apps. Still, it provides hours of battery when playing Hay Day.
It is a little hard to use the login screen. When "waking up", it seems a little laggy. The number buttons for the security code are small. I mean it's a big screen, why is the keypad about 1/9 of the screen?
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice large tablet, it just didn't work for what I intended it for. It'll make a nice photo and music storage and youtube machine, but it really does feel like I threw money out the window.
The little things:
The pre-installed apps that take up space but add nothing of value.
The way many apps will not orient horizontally, which is annoying as heck.
The inability to fine tune some settings, and the lack of clear explanations of what certain settings do.
By far THE most annoying thing is where they located the charging port. It's a tablet, not a phone. The port is in the middle of the right side when held horizontally, exactly where your right hand holds it. I often use the tablet while it's charging. The cord is in the worst possible place for this. I find myself turning the tablet vertically when using it while charging. Then at least I can hold it relatively comfortably, although I hate typing and working in that orientation.
It's like whoever designed this never used a tablet while charging it before. It's actually making me think of replacing it already. Which su*ks.
1. USB C charging. No matter what I say, my kids will end up playing them while charging, and the micro usb with the design, tended to break. The even design of the USB C has eliminated this problem.
2. Size. We have had 7, 8 and 10. The 10 inch is just more engaging and interactive, especially for kids. I wasn't looking for portability, so these are the best size fit for us.
3. Brand. We are a samsung house. We have tried all different kinds of tablets and the "off" brands just have a lot of problems and dont hold up (plus it's harder to find cases for them, especially kids cases)
This tablet has great battery life, has a decent internal memory and can hold a large memory card, has a great picture, and just works. We have 4 of them, from a month and a half old to a year and a half old and none of them have had any problems. If one were to break, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this tablet again, and I'm thinking about buying one for myself!
