Plantronics Wireless Headset - Model: Audio 995This product developed what seems to be a short in the mic connection of the headset, causing loud outgoing static sounds to be heard by the party on the other side of a video call. Tapping the mic will temporarily eliminate the static sounds, but for only a short time, and then static sounds return. This seems to be a product defect, since this headset has been used very carefully and has not been dropped or damaged in any way. Noise canceling of ambient room noise is not good with this product, however overall sound quality is very good....... at least when it isn't generating loud static sounds to the other party. Has anyone else had this same mic failure? Is there a fix for this, short of a replacement of the product, which is out of warranty at this time?

Sound quality and comfort is good, but when I was listening to music I noticed the audio was skipping. I switched to wired headphones and no skipping, sound was fine. I was only a few feet away from the USB wireless adapter and looks like headphones were losing the signal. Not good. I'm returning these headphones for ones that work.

I do like this headset but I use it to create information products like video tutorials and when I record the audio there is like static/crackling/popping noise every now and then. I only use the headset with Skype/Internet calling and the quality is good except when I record it. I had Amazon send me a replacement unit in case I got hold of a bad one but the second headset has the same issue. It's not horrible but it it audible in the recording. If I'm just on Skype the audio is excellent without problems and I do like the wireless feature so I did keep it. I just don't use it to record videos or Skype calls. As others have noted not being able to use it while it charges is also a negative.

9 months of light use; then the battery gave out. That's not enough longevity to suit me. Otherwise, I was satisfied with the product.

I think for the price I got it. It was a good purchased seen in store going for $100.00 + I got it for $58. Works great. But you have to play consistenly with the manage audio divice in windows and set it for what you want as "Default device". Either you want to chat on line or hear music. You have to play with it and Follow the instructions.

I have tried several wireless headsets for speech recognition (Dragon) with limited success, especially the bluetooth models under $100. This is a reasonably priced alternative which works very nicely, consistently scoring 18 or better on quality in the Dragon set up. My only issues are (1) the microphone can only be used on the left ear and (2 and more significant) the battery recharge time is fairly high, and the batteries are not designed to be user replaceable.

This headset was easy to set up, and has great sound. I've not used it for over 5 hours at a time, so I'm not sure how long the battery lasts beyond that. I've recommended it to my colleagues.

I have the recent macbook pro i7,and the headset would not work properlyIt would launch itunes but would not play on the headset.Decided to switch to my pc and worked just fine.But for pc only headsets,you can find cheaper ones that performs with better sound.

All in all this is a great product but is a little tight when new. Hopefully it will relax with use. Sound is good and it plugs in and works. Range is what should be expected for Bluetooth devices.

Plantronics .Audio 995Let me start with something that amazed me. I plugged the USB dongle into the computer, started Itunes, hit play and music started coming from the headphones!!! I did not have to configure a single thing. The control panel in WinXP showed the Plantronics as a first device automatically. When unplugged, I had to restart Itunes, but that was it, the sound was once again coming from my main speakers. That level of ease of operation has to be commended.The sound quality and controls. The controls on the left earpad are volume up, down, pause, play and skip track. They all work as advertised. The volume of the headphones at maximum level is loud, but not very. I can easily tolerate maximum volume, which I could not do with my none too efficient Sony EX51 earbuds. If I had to estimate efficiency in standard terms I would guess ~97db.The sound is typical of larger and over the ear headphones. For me this sound is exemplified by good bass and slightly inadequate treble. 20-20khz advertised frequency response. For reference the 995 sound better than an old Consumer Reports best buy Sony MDR CD180, but not as good as renowned Koss clip on KSC75 (a true best buy). The 995's treble is actually pretty good, while the midrange has a slight listening thru a pillow quality. I had a chance to compare these to a Altec Backbeat Bluetooth wireless headphones, and find the Altec headphones slightly more accurate despite a slight hiss in the background.I tested the built in, fold away microphone with windows XP recorder, and once again the ease of setup (none) was amazing. The sound quality was excellent. If you ever consider these for use with Skype or other computer based internet VOIP (phone) applications you will be pleased.The range does appear to matchy the 40ft claim, but subtract 10 ft for each wall in the way. Battery life is claimed to be 8hrs (have not run them down the first time yet) and the recharge time is 2-4 hrs (headset only, the dongle is powered thru USB). I wish these and the Altec BackBeat's would also have a wired connection such that you can use them with a MP3 player directly. The Altec's dongle allows you to wirelessly transmit any audio source thru a mini stereo plug, but that forces you to give up the track skip function. The good sound quality makes me want to use them with a TV and a stereo, how about an optional audio in dongle as well?In summary, the incredible ease of use and very good sound quality will make me use these more often than I initially thought.

Like many others I was impressed with the pundit reviews on the Plantronics .Audio 995 wireless headset, but the actual product execution leaves me unimpressed.The good:--Good product concept. The computing world needs this product.--Audio quality excellent.--Relatively inexpensive.--Comfortable fit.The bad:--The 2.4GHz radio interfers with WiFi and reduces effective bandwidth on laptops when the selected USB port is close to the WiFi antenna. Plantronics knows about this issue and does not disclose it in the documentation or the product support on-line material. You can easily determine if your laptop WiFi bandwidth is advesely affected by toggeling the on/off switch and watching your network bandidth in the Task Manager.--The on/off switch is under software control and goes "brain-dead" far too often. The functionality is supposed to respond after depressing and holding the switch for two seconds (again, the two second delay is not explained in the documentation), but occasionally the unit will freeze in a given mode and not respond at all to depressing the switch. You have to take the unit off your head to turn it on or off, because the tacticle feedback of the button tells you nothing. Only the color of the LED, and whether or not it is flashing tells you the status of the headset.

This is a wonderful product.i purchased other head phone sets and was not happy.works great on skype,magic jack,and pc listening, all with clear sound.and the range is superb. living in a tri level townhome im able to receive a signal on all three levels.very satisfied client.

I was going to slam this product but reviewed the selling points and realized the error was mine. I work in an open office and need a headset that has noise canceling ability. I did a search and this headset came up. I know the company name and to me it means quality so I purchased it. The problem, to drown out the background noise I have to turn the volume up so loud that my ears bleed(exaggeration).I am tone deaf so I am not a good reviewer for sound quality.I operate a PC with Vista and I can testify that it was extremely simple to use. Windows Media Player was open so to hear it all I had to do was close the application and restart it.Comfort, I wear glasses and I am not experiencing discomfort, in fact given my need, I wish they held tighter to my head so more background noise would be eliminated. I had the volume at 30% and just heard someone clear their throat from across the room (approx 30 ft).So bottom line, I am not happy , but I take the blame because I did not closely read the product description.

I use this headset mainly for teleconferences. Previously I had an one-ear type but I had difficulty in concentrating. This covers your ears nicely but if you wear them for hours your ears could be throbbing at the end!Sound quality is very good, also the set up. The wireless gadget (which looks like a memory stick) is plugged on an USB port and presto! No need to configure anything or pair the headset- the connection is automatic.You can move up to 15 feet from your computer and the reception is still perfect. That gives you freedom to move around when using them.Also, it is very useful for playing music. There are controls on the left earset: volume, play/pause, and skip songs forward/backward. Although you don`t see the buttons when the headset is on, it is very easy to locate them with your fingers after a few trials.A couple of downsides: You don`t know the battery status or when it will run out(the headset has a rechargeable battery that is charged through an USB cable - provided), and cannot be used when charging.Apart from that, very happy with the purchase.

I like function over quality. Once I am happy with the functionality I look at quality.In the case of this product it does not make it to the quality level analysis. It has several user interface issues that you must learn in order to use the product.1) Power button is not immediately responsive. A quick press of the button does not turn the device off. Instead you must press and hold the button for a second. Pressing longer causes the device to try and pair with the transmitter, less does nothing. This means until you learn this behavior you tend the press the button once to turn off the device only to have it stay on.2) Turning off the headset does not reroute the audio back to your speakers. You must remove the usb transmitter. This means that the usb transmitter can not be plugged in behind a desktop or you are forced use the headset all the time and not your speakers.3) Due to the implementation applications that are already running do not have their audio rerouted when the usb device is plugged in. Thus if you want to switch to the headset. Skype is able to reroute audio while the call in place. Flash/Youtube was not. I had to close all my internet explorer windows and restart to have audio rerouted to the headset or back to the speakers.4) There was one case where plugging in the usb transmitter and removing it caused the wave channel to be muted. This muted youtube. This was not the must of the main output channel so pressing a mute button on the keyboard did not enable audio. I had to go into sound properties and change the mute settings on one of the individual channels. Could have easily been user error.

I bought this headset for Voip (Skype) as a replacement for my Plantronics 400.(Word of caution: do not consider bluetooth headsets for voip. Bluetooth unfortunately is not designed for that and produces horrible results. Bluetooth works with profiles and can only function in stereo when the mic is off. If you want to use both, sound becomes mono and mic produces very low quality sound.)The good:- Uses non-bluetooth 2.4GHz wireless signal with its own USB receiver which allows stereo Voip calls with good microphone quality- Connects to Mac or PC with no installation, drivers or pairing BS. Plug and play.- Long wireless range- Good music quality- Has volume and pause/play/ff controls- Very good microphone sound qualityThe bad:- Very flimsy construction. Headband flexes very heavily under the weight of the headphones- Plasticy cheap looking design- Skype sound lacks clarity, which makes the voice sound muffled and hard to hear- Headphones do not work while being charged- Headphone cups are small and therefore make ears hurt after about an hour.- No mic monitor (when your voice signal is fed to the headphones) for Voip calls, what that means with over the ear cups is that you can't hear your voice which in turn makes you raise your voice and/or get "clogged ears" feeling.I rated these 4 stars only because there very few alternatives, literally just a handful, logitech, asus and skype's freeman... some don't even work with Mac OS. So overall 995 are a pretty good value.UPDATE: After one and a half weeks of using these i returned them and got ASUS HS-1000W. 3 reasons:- Plantronics flimsy build is just unacceptable for a product designed in 2009, i'd gladly pay more money if they made a better version.- Over the ears cups are a tad too small and start to hurt my ears within an hour.- Bulky and non-foldable design prohibits any kind of travel with these.

Great performance at a great price. Easy to install with no special software other that what is autoloaded from USB bluetooth plugin. Range as advertised at 40 ft. Great sound quality, comfortable on ears, and easy to use mic with mute when folded up. Volume control right on on ear piece. Least expensive I found for one of longest range models. Couldn't imagine a more expensive model doing the job any better. If you want wireless sound and mic, this is the perfect model.

I bought this headphones mostly for skype calls and occasionally for listening to music.I find a lot of cons: 1. Very uncomfortable headset. 2. Sound quality is poor: too much bass, not enough highs, not enough resolution :( 3. There is no way to know how much battery life is left and if you need to charge them or not. 4. Can't use and charge at the same time (well I knew about this before I purchased these headset).The pros: 1. My coworkers claims that they here me perfectly during skype calls => the mic works great.

I watched the reviews on youtube about Plantronics. IT is an awesome tool, & a must have item if u Skype or like to listen to music by way of your computer w/out disturbing others. The sound quality is awesome! I am able to go all over the house(2400sq ft)w/out interruptions! Its easy to use & affordable!

I spent quite a time reading reviews on this headset and googling the pros & cons, I should say I was not sure if there was a product out there that does what it says when it comes to headsets, especially wireless. My conclusion, based on other users, was this headset is fairly above the average with an enviable quality/design for a similar price range, and one single potential disadvantage: irreplaceable battery/headset unusable when charging. I ignored the risk and purchased it. Verdict, was not disappointed at all, audio/microphone quality is astonishing, I use it mainly for voip, and the difference is huge compared to other kits I have tried. Overall, quality compensates for potential battery capacity decrease overtime.

Did the setup for this on my ubuntu desktop and it was easy. Sound is great, comfortable all round great product. Even tried from different rooms and it was clear. Wow!
