I didn't have much good experience with Panasonic, however I will say two thumbs up with this camcorder.Picture quality especially low light is very good. I am using almost a year and don't have any issues.The software comes along with this is easy to use. I will highly recommend this camcorder.

The biggest issue I've noticed with this camera is an awful, painful to hear crackling noise on the microphone. At first I thought it had something to do with the automatic gain control, but the popping noise persists whether it's disabled or not. Without any external microphone jacks, its inability to record audio makes this camera virtually useless to me.

We have used this for casual everyday and a couple birthday parties and it works great! Simple to use and certainly a convenient size! The case velcro does come apart easily so I would recommend reinforcing the velcro or find a sturdier case. Great buy!

The HDC-SD60K I bought stops working for no reason yesterday.I have it for less than an year, I thought I got warranty covered.I went to their on-line repairing registration, and end up having to paid ~$120for LABOR because warranty only covers parts for an year, not the labor.Duh !!! you call that warranty ??? That's almost 1/3 of the camera value.I am so disappointed !!!

Shot this last night .. [...]as for the camera i LOVE it... the ONLY thing i wish was better was the white balance, it needs at least 10 seconds to fully adjust from outdoor to indoor lighting but once it does everything looks beautiful. Image stabilization is also the best i've ever seen. (seriously).edit; looks like Amazon killed my link. Sorry.

I did a lot of research on entry level HD camcorders before deciding on the Panasonic HDC-SD60K. Price was one consideration, but I wanted to make sure that I was getting a camcorder that I would be happy with for many years. This is the one. Straight out of the box, this camera was ready to go. It is easy to operate and fits nicely into the palm of your hand. I am a big guy, so I was thinking this may be too small for my hands, but it is not. For the average size person, this will be perfect. The controls are easily to use and located in positions that make them easy to reach and operate. The touch screen works flawlessly and the menus are very easy to navigate. I really like the automatic lights that come in handy in low-lighting situations. They offer the perfect amount of light to make your early-morning Christmas videos look nice and bright... instead of dark and yellow. This camcorder has a lot of features that I have not even began to explore, but soon will. The zoom works really well and the face recognition is a nice bonus. I couldn't be more satisfied with this product. Great job Panasonic!

Excellent video quality for its class. Haven't tried shooting stills. Easy to use menus. The software is a bit primitive, but OK.My problem is the noise that comes from autofocus. I am surprised that NOBODY mentioned this issue anywhere on the web, but this is a real deal breaker! Keep in mind that this camcorder does not have an external mic input. No matter what you do, you will still hear the "trrr...trrrr...trrrr.." noise coming from the autofocus motor. I've tried manual mode with the lowest mic sensitivity settings and still could hear that horrible noise on every recording. I thought it's just my camcorder, but after trying two more of the same model I'm pretty sure it's not just one time issue. Panasonic tech support is a joke! After bouncing me from one rep to another for 45 minutes the guy told me that this noise is NORMAL and there is nothing he can do for me. I couldn't believe my ears! I am sending my camcorder back.

I bought this camera to take videos of my new baby. This is still an entry level camera so obviously there are many limitations. The most noticeable one is the poor quality under low light condition, the image turns grainy (like a high ISO). But under normal conditions it looks great. You should connect it using a hdmi cable in order to notice the quality, the component cable that comes with the unit gives you a not so good image.For pictures almost same thing, under low light the pic quality is poor, but under normal light conditions the quality is much better. Still you can't compare it to a $200 - $300 range P&S, but it is fairly good. And it has the "plus" that you can have still images while you are shooting video, I loved that feature.I also had the biggest zoom in the price range by the time I bought it. And for PS3 owners, you can see the videos directly (putting them on a flash drive under VIDEO folder) and they look amazing, without any conversion needed.Overall, for me it was the best choice for the price.

Wonderful machine. Everything I hoped for and more. I live in Alaska and the first week I had it I was able to take it out on the ocean for a test. While we were fishing, along came a pod of killer whales. They came quick and left quick, allowing me just enough time to take some quick video. Later, on review I found out just how much the boat was bouncing. The video camera image stabilizer tried it's best to overcome the wave movement and gave me some segments that I was able to work with. I came up with a still from that video that I was able to make into a 12x18 wall photo. It looks great! You can't tell it was not taken with a digital SLR. Then, a week after that, my wife and I were invited to go on a glacier tour where we flew over many glacier fields and landed on two glaciers. I took about 20 minutes of video in that helicopter and the image stabilizer overcame the vibration from the rotors and gave me incredibly crisp high def video of the trip. The color was accurate and the white balance performed flawlessly. Even when confronted with such high contrasts as ice fields, mountains, and clear blue sky behind that. In reading other reviews before I bought my own video camera, they had warned about white balance problems. So far it has been right on. This video camera is exactly what I was hoping for.

We have been using this for everything from my baby's first steps to online video reviews. It is small and versatile with a great picture. Very Happy with this overall. 5 stars from me.

If you are looking for something better than the Flip video camera, but don't want to lug around a pro sized rig, this camera should be considered. It's easy to use, takes good video and is light enough to fit in a pocket.There are a few issues, white balance, background noise and the additional codex's that you have to load to play the video, but these are all pretty minor and can be resolved either on or off camera. The battery life is not terribly long, but they are small so if you are going to be filming a politician's short speach, bring three or four. You should be able to film an entire wedding and most of the reception with one battery. A childs school play, less than half a battery.I like the zoom on this camera, it works well. This camera has a fairly wide angle lens, but can zoom in close enough to get to the detailed action.

I did tons of research on camcorders and the smaller handhelds and this is the one I ended up purchasing. For the $359 price tag there are only a couple options that are as high quality as this camera. Yes, it has some low light issues at times but it's not that noticeable unless it's very dark in the room compared to the handhelds, it's so much better. The videos I've shot inside have been great and the transfer to my computer or to my PS3 to play that at any time is amazing. My old camera was a mini-dv and this is absolutely amazing compared to that. I am so happy with my purchase so far and excited for our upcoming vacation with my family to video the kids swimming around. Should be really great.

The camera is apparently excellent but... I just could not download the files on my computer through the proposed software, due to a "TV format issue". Going on internet, I have seen I was not the only one.In addition, I realized that such HD files cannot be viewed through Windows Player, unless you have the very last version of it plus Windows7 (whereas the panasonic software is supposed to work on Vista and XP, which somewhere is misleading).The only thing I could do through the panasonic software was to see the videos, with the size of the picture about the same as the size of the camera screen...What is the use of a digital camera if you cannot download and see your files on a computer?So I give one star for this reason, even if I might have given 4 or 5 if I had had the required system, as again it has nothing to do with the camera itself but with the interface.

It's really small like other reviews has mentioned.However, it's still OK for me since my hand is not that big. LOLIt may lead to some trouble to whose big-hands HAHA.The quality of the recording is good.However, don't ever dream to record anything in the dark night, like the sky in the night, the moon and the stars sth like that.Also, it will warn you not to move very fast when recording.I'm still learning to use it and the PC application.I bought a 32G memory card for it. And it's enough!!!The battery life after every fullly charged is about 1 and half and hour.For me, it's enough to use for one day.Because I also have a SLR camera, I won't let it open all the time.For those who want to use it for taking photos and record, you may need to think about buying an extra battery.BTW, the photo's quality is also very good!

I was considering purchasing this camcorder for taking aerial video on a RC plane until I checked the tech specs and saw that it uses a MOS picture sensor. These use a rolling shutter, unlike CCD sensors. While this is fine for most applications, where vibration or fast motion is present a rolling shutter can induce wobbly video. (Search rolling shutter.)CCD sensors in video cameras are rapidly disappearing, but I found a good used one with 3 CCD sensors, which works great. CCD sensors are not perfect, but their imperfections are small compared to MOS or CMOS sensors because of the rolling shutter they use. Should camcorder manufacturers use non-rolling shutters with (C)MOS sensors in the future, their artifacts would disappear.

As of 03/12/2011, I am satisfied with the performance of the camera, but I rate it "4" because, of the battery life and not so good video editing capabilities. Especially, each time you record and pause, it is stored as an individual file which can be edited. I used the camera to record the baby shower of my wife and when I tried putting it on to a media (DVD), the output video is not continuous, you can see the transition of each individual files when mixed. May be I need to review the manual and do some more work on the video. I will repost another review later.

I've had this product for only a short time but would like to point out something that I didn't see pointed out in the reviews I read. I have normal sized fingers and have no problems using products like the iPhone but I found navigating the touchscreen menus incredibly frustrating. I would often hit the selection next to the one that I wanted and would then have to go back and try again- sometimes repeatedly. In many cases if Panasonic had been even a little more intelligent about designing the menus they could have easily solved this- there will often be only two possible selections but they are put right next to each other.

This is a great little camcorder. I have never owned a camcorder and I was worried that I would not understand how to operate one. Well this camcorder has fantastic instructions with it and I had no problems at all learning quickly how to make things happen. Before I knew it I was taking beautiful videos of my little daughter singing and dancing around the room. I could even take still shots when I wanted to. The pictures are so clear and bright you felt like you were right there in person watching her perform. I haven't taken the camcorder out on a trip yet, but we plan to next month. I love how light weight it is and easy to handle. I couldn't be happier with my new camcorder and I would recommend it to my best friends. Ellie C

The camcorder itself is good, but ugliest deceit is in battery. They install smart card into the battery so that camcorder does not work with a battery made by third party. On the other hand a battery made by Panasonic (with smart card) is overpriced about ten times. This stinky Panasonic that has become kind of swindler has reduced prices for camcorder itself in order to attract buyers, but sooner or later when you need a battery you have to pay for it half of what camcorder itself cost. They must've put this information on specifications, not the manual which a buyer usually has no access to. This is typical case of fraudtha thas become so common now.

With the new hi-def cameras, the most annoying trait is a shaky picture when zooming (if it has a zoom - this one does to 35x optical). This camera is the best for the price range because it has an optical stabilizer that is really steady. Quite good. The rest of the features are very good as well and no real complaints there. It does pretty ok in low-light but that super but again for the price, it does shoot in low-light and it is totally acceptable. But for the price, a great buy. Stay away from "digital" stabilization and stick with optical for now. It is a BIG difference in the end for making movies if you want to zoom. Zoom on this is great as well by the way.

Chose this as it was one of the top bargain HD camcorders reviewed by Cnet, and it is true to the review.pro: great video quality, easy to use, decent battery life, transfer to DVD/computer with its software is a breezecon: could be a little smaller

This camera is small enough to put in your pocket and powerful. People complain that it does not perform well in low light but it was better than I expected. I tried it in near darkness and it was grainy but I could still easily make out what I was looking at.Problems:no audio jack or hot shoe. but for an amature just shooting the my baby and home and vacation things I will probably never use those features even if it had it.Zoom is not super fast. Zoom is moderate to quick but when I watch the news it is super fast. That camera probably cost 10x the price though.A little hard to navagate on little touch screenIf it has mpeg 2 feature I have not found it yet.As far as I can tell black and silver models are exactly the same but the silver costs much less. When I bought it it was $140 less. I noticed the price has been raised since then. I would buy this camera again. I believe it is the best camera in the $300-$500 range

I've done a pretty good amount of research on budget hi-def camcorders between $400 and $500 dollars. In my opinion, this is the best camcorder in this price range. I would highly recommend this camcorder to anyone looking to just film family gatherings, vacations, or for filming budget movies. The camcorder has an attractive design, fits in your palm, and is the perfect weight. It takes fantasic video, has a 3 second pre-record function, face tracking, good battery life, a flash & video light, average photos, and dolby digital audio recording. My only complaint is the location of the record button, it is a bit awkward. I was going to go with the Sony cx110 which has mostly the same specs, but decided on this camcorder since it has optical image stabilization (which works flawlessly) instead of an electronic stabilizer. It also has an LED video light and a flash, for photos. It supports SDXC memory cards, which can hold 64GB or more. If you prefer flash memory over using a hard drive, like me, you are better off with this base model and getting a 16/32GB SD card. I bought the 32GB Transcend SDHC card from Amazon and it works perfectly with this product.

I got this product for my wife for Christmas and I must say...what a great buy! Right out of the box it was easy to set up and use. The picture is crystal clear and the sound is very crisp and full. I am a musician and I often make videos for my students and even they were blown away by the high quality. My only problem with the unit is that it can be a little hard to operate with one hand BUT I gladly accept that flaw for the price and quality!
