Unit has stopped playing audio from HDMI sources at initial power up. Have to toggle it off and on once or twice after it warms up to get it working again. Appears to be the dreaded "HDMI board failure" that has plagued every Onkyo generation of AVRs going back five years.
Have to decide on buying another one while this one gets repaired or shelling out for a more capable piece.
//Update 04/29/2013.
Onkyo have finally acknowledged that this problem exists in this model and have provided a Beta firmware that fixes it. I have, myself confirmed the fix and others with video processors have comprehensively tested the fix firmware and confirmed that the issues with both 59.xx and 23.9x frame-rates being altered by the 818 have been resolved.
You can download this FW (1110 or 1120) from the Onkyo support website. It is not available via "auto update" directly from your AVR over the internet.
//end Update
I have had the Onkyo 818 AVR since July. I observed that I would see a glitch in the picture every minute or three and reported the trouble to Onkyo who dismissed it as a problem with settings on the 818 or having my TV improperly setup, bad cables, etc.
This issue has now been confirmed by people who have connected video processors to the 818. It is messing with the frame-rate of BD sources and certain 720P sources.
I am pointing this out, because if you're picky about picture quality like me, you won't want this unit anywhere near your high end TV.
Here's my post in Onkyo's support forum, copied here for reference on the technical aspects of the problem;
1. The issue occurs because Blu-ray and other 1080p/24 disc sources that enter the AVR at 23.976 frames per second are sent out the main output at 24.000 frames per second... this results in a drop/dupe frame every ~40 seconds and, depending on the type of television, type of content (action, sweeping panoramas) etc, is VERY noticeable and rather annoying.
2. This issue has been confirmed by other AVS forum members with high end video processors that cost 5X as much as the Onkyo AVR costs. They have verified that the Onkyo 818 is sending a 24.000 frame per second signal when it should be sending 23.976.
3. No settings on the main output have an impact on this. I actually called Onkyo US tech support back in August because I was getting frustrated with this problem and they had me change a variety of settings in the video processing and NONE of them have an impact on this issue.
4. The only workaround to this problem to date is to use the HDMI sub-output instead of the main output. While this avoids the problem, it also bypasses the expensive video processing that we paid for when we bought these units. If we were to get an audio receiver and simple HDMI switcher it should have cost less.
I am a top 1000 reviewer on Amazon and will be posting this to a product review (which in all honesty I should have done prior to the Christmas sales rush).... while I'm not confident that Onkyo will fix the problem in the current models, they should offer refunds or switch-out of these models to ones without the problem.
Here's the rest of the equipment I'm using... the problem was easily seen with MANY blu-rays.
1. ISF calibrated Panasonic 65VT30 plasma.
2. PS3
3. HTPC with ATI 6450 Radeon graphics card outputting 23.976 FPS for blu-ray rips.
If the engineers express they have "trouble reproducing the problem" it should not be that hard.
1. Plug in a blu ray player to the AVR.
2. Set the output to 1080p/24
3. Plug a video processor or HDMI test set that displays the frame-rate in to the main output.
4. Verify that the AVR is ejecting 24.00 frames per second.
5. Plug the VP/test-set into the source.. you will see that the source sends 23.976.
It's worth noting that the 818 also mis-handles the 59.xx FPS standard and outputs that as 60.00 which is ALSO A problem.
This is problematic and needs to be fixed. I bought the 818 as an upgrade to my $1200 four year old Yamaha AVR, I did not expect a downgrade in video performance.
If Onkyo does not address the issue then I will not be purchasing any further products from them. Ever. Since I'm the alpha geek in my family and circle of friends I will make sure none of them buy any Onkyo gear either.
I have one final comment to make. Some people "can't see the problem". That does not mean it's not there and might be more or less noticeable depending on size of the TV, the individual viewer, how their gear is set up (I imagine that some TVs that use motion smoothing might mask the problem to some degree)... however, if you have a large enough screen (think home theater) and watch movies you can likely spot this issue, and once you do spo

в целом легкая установка, варенье упакован с большими функциями и отличным звуком. Очень рекомендую.

Update: Well, 5 days into using the 818 it's developed an issue. While watching satellite tv, when the listening mode changes from the program (Audyssey DSX) to a commercial (PLII Movie DSX), there's a pronounced thump from the sub! Have tried multiple changes to the audio menu settings, turning Dynamic EQ off/on, Dolby Volume control on/off, switched sub pre outs, reran Audyssey setup 3 times, even went into the speaker configuration menu & turned sub off & set the A7s to Full Band & thump was still evident even in the Polks sigh. Really wanted to like this avr, but there's obviously something amiss! From what I've gleaned from reading the net, could be a faulty muting switch? Who knows. What a hassle though! Considering I never had an issue with the sub thump with the 180, it's a total disappoint from Onkyo & this "high end" component. Back it goes & I'll try a replacement fingers/toes crossed.
Update #2: Received replacement unit, set up went well, installed the firmware update. What I did notice before I hooked up the avr again was, while watching Dish programming using the tv speakers, the audio still had the "thump" when changing from program to commercial etc. Just for grins, I'd ordered new hdmi cables 28g with ferrite cores & immediately noticed that switching channels was smoother & quicker & no audio issues. I'm thinking this was the prob all along, the old cables were el cheapos I'd bought 5 or 6 years ago! Duh on me for not thinking of that in the first place. PQ & SQ with the 818 is freaking awesome!!!

я также проверил сайт японский магазин электроники, фактически эта модель не продается в Японии. Поскольку японцы обычно продают лучший продукт в своей стране, я не хочу снова заказать такую же модель. Я буду двигаться в Marantz в следующий раз.
