I notice all the whingers and complainers and here is the answer - My phone turned up earlier than expected, as expected and properly dealt with - BUT DEAD as a dodo. Patience, control temper and nerves. Get onto a computer to Nokia Support page and click on Tech Support - it takes you through a set of routines to test and run your device. Brilliant. Mine was singing dancing and laughing within half an hour. There you are; all the others sent em back and got in a terrible stew, but it is easily sorted with some thought.
What a classic device and what a good fast receipt of goods. My advice is to buy the hard cover for carriage in handbag or pocket and a soft cover bag (mine is neoprene) for general carting about of the device and bits that go with it. You will also need a 32gb micro sd - see which one on the support page as some are not supported. You can get your data and phone number onto a nano sim down the road at your phone shop - for free - so don't follow those sites that have you cut up your old sim. Treat yourself and get the best - it doesn't matter that you are on google mail or apple, 1520 takes it all in and sorts it out so you are in instant grab of all your contacts and email AND controls it from one place to avoid any confusion. YES YES YES - better than chocolate

I bought Nokia's Lumia 1520 out of curiosity to try/test Windows Mobile 8.1. After setting the English & Region settings to the USA (so I can then access Microsoft's "Cortana" virtual, voice-activated, digital assistant on the Lumia 1520, I must say, so far, I'm very impressed. This is large phone with a large screen. But if you want that, and you like to be 'different', then this will do it for you !

Sadly it started out as a brilliant phone but within a few days the touchscreen started freezing and jumping to bing search for no reason. This was solved with a hard reset but degrades over a few weeks requiring another reset and all the reloading etc. that entails when you have the phone just how you want it.
I tried Nokia support and waiting for promised updates which solved nothing and eventually I was told to return for replacement but I have to go through the seller as it was a HK not EU phone and as such they will not honour the 2 yr warranty.
This does seem to be a known fault judging by the forums and general search results for this phone
Sadly the seller is not responding at the moment so it looks like I will have to file a claim through Amazon but I will update as it unfolds

It is a big phone, my previous phone the lumia 925 was also a brilliant phone, i spotted the 1520 on holiday in the usa and liked the look of it. Camera very good and the shots look fab on the huge screen. Yes it may be slightly awkward to hold if you have small hands, i find it easier due to the size, less fiddly and for ageing eyes the screen size is a bonus. Im not technical and find windows easy to use and nokia have always been the best phones. If you love the lumia phones its just bigger and better than the rest.

Yes, it's huge and you'll need two hands to do most things but it is also brilliant. Probably not one for you if you don't literally have big, deep pockets but it does save carrying around both a tablet and phone. Best Windows phone I've owned so far

I bought this phone in July after a month of use it ,it blacked out and wouldn't charge when I asked to be fix or replace they made it worse and they want me to pay for the repair . I would not recomened .

Finally the luxury of a phone that is big enough to actually enjoy reading documents and feeds on (without squinting), where the keyboard is a joy to use, that has fantastic build quality, a great camera and screen and which comes with the terrific WinPhone 8.1 OS.
Links without problem to OneDrive and Boxcryptor - a key requirement for me - as well of course to email and Office, and is fast and smooth to use. I've used Android phones in the past and they always felt like a incoherent mish-mash. iPhones: overpriced, over-hyped toys. The 1520, on the other hand, looks and feels like an integrated device, and gives me a mobile portal both to my own systems and files, and to the wider world. More than enough apps for my needs, but looking forward to the UK debut of Cortana.

I have used Android phones in the past and been very happy with them so switched to a Windows phone with some trepidation - and I need not have worried. The quality of the Nokia is superb and is a pleasure to use. The camera is quite outstanding. I have not found the perceived lack of apps to be an issue at all. The switch from Android takes a little getting used to but the Windows systems is relatively straightforward and simple to work with. It is really useful having the shutter button on the side for the camera. Battery life is very impressive indeed.
My own view is that the WIndows system will graually increase market share and Nokia has set a new benchmark for quality. Highly recommended.

The phone performs everything very well previously had iPhone and Samsung but when the screen failed on the samsung I opted for a Nokia as I use windows 8 and overall very impressive and a saving of £300 coupled with seamless docs and work interaction and well done 3 who supplied a Nano SIM card and activated immediately the huge screen is brilliant and I now don't take a computer abroad just the phone as excel and one drive holds all the power points that can be transferred to a TV or projector seamlessly much better battery life as well. Downside is the configuration time for all my apps the software engineers can improve this it will take around 2 hours with contact and picture transfer along with music files

I love this phablet. Nokia apps are magnificent, and the screen quality is spectacular. It's big for sure, but still fits in a jacket pocket with relative ease, even when in a case (purchased separately). The ability to expand the storage by 64GB is very handy for music and picture lovers. And it's very fast.

Bought as a replacement for my trusty, but long in the tooth HP iPAQ PDA. Fact that it comes with a phone function means I upgraded my phone at the same time. Lovely to use, clear screen easy to read without my reading glasses. Bit chunky to hold as a phone, but that was not the reason I bought it - I don't make many phone calls that last a long time. Still finding out how to use all the functions, although most are pretty intuitive.

Great windows phone. Every one gets better and better. The screen is great for viewing photos and videos. I use it a lot with the Kindle app to read on public transport.

I have now had 4 windows phones with this one being the latest.
It is true that we are all waiting on the next windows upgrade, only because it is better not because the current OS is poor, it isn't.
Good battery life, I can easily get a full day and that is with 6 hours music playing at 20/30 volume
Search and web is fast and the processor has handled everything so far.
Call quality is great and the screen is excellent.
The camera is really good, and the best I have had on a phone by miles. It handled a Katy Perry concert with no flash perfectly
It is large, so unless you have big hands like me then it's a 2 hand job.
Because of it's size and polycarbonate shell it can be slippery so I would recommend a case or like me a full body skin

we bought 2 together and one kept losing battery power really fast. there was a rogue app called Onc (I think) and once this was removed both were running really well.
as a product - it doesn't quite meet expectations but then I read the reviews first so I knew this already. It's just a software issue really. I expected it to do what my Windows 8.1 computers do and it just doesn't quite. the Xbox Music Live app has loads of features missing and you can't download from the cloud onto the device. So so long as you download music onto your phone and then sync and download to your computer you will be fine.
there's no file explorer and the apps available aren't yet up to scratch.
another reason I bought this was to put on the BT SMART app but sadly BT haven't made one that is compatible yet!
I don't have a tablet yet so this was a big reason for chosing a phablet and, yes, it definitely fills that void.

Purchased from GoodDeals4u and ordered and delivered in 9 days, This phone is big but you soon get used to it, have never had an iphone but my daughter has one and I really don't like them, have always had Android all different makes, having used Windows phone years ago which was a disaster I decided to give this a go, and what an awesome improvement, this phone is a delight to use very smooth and powerfull.
Battery lasts forever, and if your not someone who has to have every crap app out there on the phone then the windows app store is pretty good, I have all the apps I used on my Android and they all work superbly, some even better then Android.
Yes it's big but the build quality and performance are as good as any top phone out there today.

Where do I start?
This is the best idea I have had in a long time!
The Nokia 1520 is just an amazing Phone/Tablet.
The build is excellent and yes it's big but that is so much of an advantage in use.

Browsing the web is amazing
The predictive text is excellent and set to get even better with windows phone 8.1 release
Screen resolution is beautiful.

I bought this phone from Gooddeal4you. It arrived quickly and I started trying it out. Mostly I'm an android user but also happy with IOS. I was very impressed by this phone- the screen is superb - I can;t think of any other device that has a nicer screen. It's a large device but I quickly got used to that. Most of the apps I need are now on windows mobile and the tiled approach on windows is refreshing. There was a problem with charging though (happens very occasionally to most manufacturers) and I decided to send the phone back. Gooddeal4you were excellent. They gave me some helpful suggestions of things to try. And when I decided to return the device they gave me a full refund (including return postage.
So in summary a great phone/phablet. And great service from Gooddeal4you.

Fantastic!!!
Having used both Android and IOS, all I can say is I don't regret choosing this beast of a phone.
It does all I need and more.
Batter life is stupendous I can go easily 3 to 4 days in between charges.
Easy to use, beautiful pictures, good navigation system etc etc...
If you think you're ready for a Lumia, then just do it.

I could talk all day about why I love this phone, but don't worry - I won't! However, really briefly: The camera is awesome, the extra screen size is great, the seamless social networking integration is marvellous, the Nokia apps are fantastic and unless you've owned and used a Windows Phone 8, I can truthfully say you don't know what you're missing.
Note that this phone requires a nano SIM, so if you're upgrading from another phone you should contact your network provider to ask about switching to a nano SIM or alternatively cut your existing SIM down to size (I did, using this, though please do read online SIM cutting guides if you're planning on doing this for the first time: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009YZPUJS/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_3)

Don't let its massive size put you off. After a week it becomes 'normal'. Combined with WP8.1 this is a fast, responsive phone. Its got crazy specs, 2gb ram, 2.2ghz quad core processor, 16M camera. The manual is in Chinese but the model is the RM-937 which is the European version according to Wikipedia. I love this phone, I've got the black one in the official red Nokia flip case and its still light. Nokia black is awesome, the glance screen is fantastic, double tap to wake etc.
The seller was alright, if it wasn't for the second bank holiday on may, it would have been here within 3 days. My fault not theirs.
Just gotta think of some witty comebacks for when people go 'that's a big phone'.

Love this phone, on the large side so beware before ordering. Had problem with phone, got replacement asap so no problems. £200 cheaper than in shops at time of buying so no brainer.

I Loved the phone, however please be careful about who you buy from. I bought mine and the had a problem with it. When I returned it to Nokia to get fixed they wouldn't repair it under warranty as they said that it was not a UK phone. Luckily Amazon came to the rescue and gave me a full refund and I used it to buy another 1520, because, as It stated I loved the phone...
