Disclaimer - I am not part of Nokia nor any of its subsidiaries nor am I anything to do with content providers, Windows, or any of that malarkey! I just use a mobile phone like everyone else and I would recommend this to anyone who fancies trying out the Windows platform with a half-phone half-tablet. Hope this helps.

I found this phone at the Gadget Show Live before christmas and immediately felt it was the best phone on the market right now and how it suited my needs with a 1080p 6" Screen, and amazing internals but I find myself writing this review after only one month having the phone and it has a smashed screen. This came as a result of a drop, but not any drop, it fell out of my pocket whilst getting out of the car and cracked, this was a drop that an iPhone would easily have survived and since I changed from Apple to Nokia over the assurance of a near indestructible phone you can imagine my horror to see the damage done by a 30cm drop.
Now after hearing from friends how apple would approach such a situation where they would replace the phone under warranty, my body filled with hope as Nokia, being once the biggest phone manufacturer in the world, would take a similar approach and replace the device free of charge. This couldn't be further from the truth. All I got from Nokia was a copy of the warranty stating that any rough use such as it falling wasn't covered by warranty.
I was distraught, I had received the phone as a gift for christmas and I would be having to pay £200 to fix an accident or be stuck with a phone that 20% of the time works, and the other 80% of the time the tactile buttons take matters into their own hands and take you the search window, which is intensely annoying when your trying to reply to emails and texts.
As this was my First experience with Nokia and Windows Phone I will say I am incredibly disappointed and will more than likely never use Nokia again.
I wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone simply because of how easily it can be damaged, I mean you would have thought with a phone of this surface area it would be made to withstand such a fall, but no, it cannot.
Nokia, I hate to write a bad review but I had such high hopes for this phone and the build quality simply didn't match the outstanding specifications you gave us.

one thing... you probably wont get a bill with it, so its harder to bring it to service and tell them that its yours and etc... (guess its that cheap, cuz tax reclaims)

It was a solid device. Built like a tank, screen was gorgeous, camera was great (albeit slow to capture photo's) and Windows Phone runs like butter.
That being said, I think that 6 inches is pushing it in terms of how large a phone can get. I've owned a Galaxy Note 2 before this and found that to be very much manageable, enjoying the extra screen real-estate. This however, despite being only .5 inches bigger, takes it to a whole other level. It can feel very unwieldy at times. If you don't have larger than average hands, consider giving this a miss. Also, it's very heavy, much more so than any other phone I have ever owned.
Then comes the real issue with the device though in my opinion; Windows Phone. As smooth as the OS may be, it is seriously lagging in terms of features behind Android and iOS. I know that the gap is due to be closed by the impending Windows Phone 8.1 update, but even then, iOS 8 and Android L are looking to leapfrog this slow developing OS yet again. We don't even know when 8.1 will even reach this handset.
All in all, if you have larger than average hands, don't mind the extra weight and the undeveloped operating system that this phone runs on, then this may be a great purchase for you. Other than that, I cannot recommend the device, really.

The phone looks stunning. Very minimalist, typical Nordic Scandinavian design. The build quality is typical Nokia, with the unibody polycarbonate, its beautifully finished and has never let me down. It stands up to starches and dings very well indeed.
The display is beautifully. Crisp, clear, bright and very responsive. Lovely large size and thin bezels.
Windows phone 8 is outstanding and gets better with every update. It never lags, is super easy to sue, looks gorgeous and is just very nice and easy to use. Integrated office and onedrive is a lifesaver for someone who has to go to college and wants to edit and view things on the go.
Very snappy phone indeed. Apps and games load instantly. IE mobile is the best mobile browser. Wipes the floor with chrome for android.
Call quality is exceptional as is signal strength. Volume goes up very loud but doesn't distort.
The loud speaker is another surprise. It again is very loud but doesn't distort as much as you would think and even pumps out some noticeable bass. The supplied earphones are very good as well and you have Dolby adjustable EQ. Sound quality is brilliant.
Battery life is good for a phone of this type. Lasts me over 2 days and I periodically go on the internet , check my facebook, emails and texts and connect the Bluetooth to my car.
Its just a really lovely phone. Excellent, and in my eyes, nothing else can touch windows phones, an this is the king of them.

The Battery life is excellent (Although I guess id be classed as a light user, only watching the odd video, going on the web, social media etc, not using it for gaming), even so it beats the pants off my old Galaxy S4.
The Screen is also great, the colours are vivid and clear, I have not had any issue with the white blur some people have spoke about (where the screen goes white under the pressure of your finger touching it). My only gripe would be that the screen seems a bit on the sensitive side, many's the time I have tried to scroll down the page only to open up a new link or like a status in error.
Overall I cant rate this phone highly enough. Its does everything it says on the tin and when Cortana is released onto this beauty things are only going to get better!

Yes, a truly superlative experience. I had bought the MS Office 365 subscription and installed Office on the iPhone and I was happy with that until I tried Nokia Lumia 1520 and now I do not want to go back to iPhone because the iPhone 5s screen looks and feels tiny and almost trivial.
My wife uses a Galaxy Note 2 and when she tried the Nokia Lumia 1520 she feels that the Note 2 screen is too small!! So you see there is a real joy in larger screens on your phone.
I even feel that phones can go as large as a 65mm screen (this has a 60mm diagonal) perhaps even 7cm (70mm) may not be too large for the pocket as long as the bezel (edge around the screen) is slim.
Stunning phone. Beautiful interface. Pleasure to use. Superb camera clarity. Integrates with Gmail, Yahoo, xBox, Windows Desktop, Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, fantastic SkyDrive (which was the decider for me). 5 Stars and highly recommended.
UPDATE: 5/02/2014 - I still find this superior to Samsung Note 3 which my wife got this week. The Android has advantages like the Paypal Here app for chip and pin card which is not yet available for Windows phones. However, if it was not for that, my wife revealed that she would have chosen the largest windows phablet as well. The picture quality on Samsung Note-3 is strikingly poor! In comparison, the 1520 is very close to an SLR!!

Hardware and Design:
Overall this is currently arguably the highest specification device out of all platforms on the market with amazing camera.
As always Nokia has done a great job with the built quality of this device, room for improvement such as that it would be much more practical to have less bezel and rounded edges instead of sharp.
This is a monster device size wise compared to a standard mobile however it serves our requirements for corporate use perfectly as the additional tablet is no longer required for number of business trips, most times two hands may be required to operate it.
Software and ecosystem:
We have as a company and family fallen in love with the Microsoft Windows Phone which requires uses minimal resources therefore extremely fast, also the free/cheap services from Nokia/Music including the offline maps/navigation, MixRadio and etc... makes the experience perfect.
Windows Phone is getting extremely popular as currently the third largest mobile platform/ecosystem therefore Microsoft and Nokia are doing their upmost to keep up with user's request on new features/additions therefore don't panic if you don't currently have any features/apps as every few weeks we're seeing more and more added which is very exciting being part of seeing the improvements.
My only recommendation is that before you commit to it is worth testing out the size because it is big :-) We simply cut-out the actual size on a cardboard therefore here is a the dimensions if you wish to do this yourself: 163mm Height by 86mm Width
There are many reviews online which we have watched and read and mostly reflect the same information as above which initially we would have liked to see on Amazon therefore done this for anyone else who is looking to switch to Windows Phone or upgrade.

Have now upgraded device to Windows Phone 8.1 (using developer preview) and the forthcoming release really does make Windows Phone a real contender.
Battery life, screen, sound quality, build quality, still image quality, video quality is everything you have read about. Unbeatable combination. Feels thin, especially from a Lumia 920 background, and does not feel "too big"...except when taking calls!
Worth being aware : mine is a HK-variant (Hong Kong) which means that when you first load up, the phone is set to Chinese. A quick adjustment of keyboard languages, speech languages, region etc and the phone is now appearing fine.
The language region should mean my "preview" of Windows Phone 8.1 should receive Cortana in the UK in the next few weeks. However, the late Summer official upgrade of my phone will only take place when they hit the button for Hong Kong...not UK.
Do I care - not much - but I think people should be aware since it's natural to assume that receiving a product from a UK store-front, delivering goods in a few days, would be a UK-region product, and others may have a little more difficulty overcoming the language issues than I did, being an Computing professional!

A quick word on the Windows phone O.S. and app store. I received the 8.1 update as soon as the phone checked for updates and the upgrades are very handy, you can find out what they are via a quick search online so I wont go into them all suffice to say they bring the operating system more in line with the competition. I have found the apps that I actually use in the app store and if there isn't an exact match a similar replacement. A couple are missing but I can live without them. The replacements are actually better than the ones that they replaced on android to be honest.
Anyway, if you are in the market for a device to be that gadget nirvana of being able to replace all your other mobile gadgets in one, I believe this could be it.

Most of the main apps are there (facebook, twitter, instagram) with help from 3rd party development. Some apps I like are still missing though...I would love to be able to install chrome for instance.
Being a 6 inch phone it can be sometimes difficult to operate one handed, but that's the sacrifice you make for a screen of this size. It is very thin though, so fits in my pockets nicely.
Maps are excellent too, you're able to download maps for anywhere in the world (for free) for offline use so gps doesn't eat up your data allowance.
A couple of issues that make me knock a star off:
1. The camera app crashed so badly that whenever I went into it, and try to take a picture it would exit. Uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing to help. So a factory reset was required. It's been fine since then though.
2. Something I've just noticed after 6 weeks of use, two small bright spots (that look like backlight bleed) around 2-3cm down from the top of the screen, one on the left, one on the right. After googling this, it seems to be a common problem. It's not noticeable with darker colours, but with lighter backgrounds your eyes are drawn to them.

I was disappointed to discover that the Word app is incapable of loading very large documents - no such problem with my earlier Samsung Note! I was also surprised that the phone had no USB OTG (dongle storage) support. Verdict: Nokia/MS can do better, but these are minor gripes.
I am very picky when it comes to gadgets, and the confident performance of the Lumia 1520 confirms, despite the shortcomings mentioned above, I've chosen well. It's big, productive, compelling, and elegant. Highly recommended.

Took a few days to get used to it, but now I would never go back to using a small phone again.
It's so slick and convenient to use, and that huge 1080p screen is stunning.
My life is now complete with a Lumia 1520 and a Surface 2.
I was in two minds about the 1020 or the 1520, because I wanted a good camera.
Although the camera on the 1020 is better, I have absolutely no complaints about the quality of the photos on my 1520, and the flexibility of the software. This thing make other phones look simply archaic.
Using it with the Xbox One Smartglass app is a real joy, and games run silky smooth thanks to the beefy processor in the 1520.
I had a Lumia 820 previously. I don't know if it's down to the size of the 1520 and having bigger antennas inside, but the WiFi performance on the 1520 is a lot better. Voice calls are crisp and clear ... you do feel a bit self-conscious at first holding this thing to your ear! I have to remind myself what my dear Mum told me ... "What other people think of you is none of your business".
ADVICE - for peace of mind, I strongly suggest that you take out insurance. The 1520 has Gorilla Glass 2, but there is a LOT of glass on this thing and it's bound to be more expensive than a smaller phone to repair if you should crack the screen.
The built-in wireless charging is so convenient, too - no need to buy a wireless cover, just place it on a Nokia charging plate.
I couldn't recommend the 1520 any higher.

So, it was time to make the switch to a Windows phone.
The Nokia Lumia 1520 is for me a gorgeous phone. The hardware is excellent and it feels like you're holding real quality. The camera is outstanding. Crisp beautiful photos and videos.
Kudos to Nokia. I've always been a big fan of their designs.
But, there are limitations. The software...
There are a few basics that I expect from a mobile, which cannot be done on this phone:
Skype: No way to send SMS messages (Although Skype is owned by Microsoft, it is the only platform that doesn't allow this. Honestly doesn't make sense)
SD Card encryption: No way to do this using the Nokia (Windows 8/ 8.1 limitation)
Cannot change the keyboard. I'm a big fan of Swiftkey, making emails and texting so much easier.
Apart from this I don't need tons of apps, but the basics that I DO need should work. So because of this I'll be switching back to an Android phone. Most likely a Xperia Z2. If the above isn't important, then this phone is a must buy and super fast.

To anyone out there who has an iphone or android phone and is considering a change - go for it - this is sooooo much better than any other phone I have used.
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE
Having now owned this phone for 6 months I still think it is a great phone but I have to add a couple of things I have discovered. Firstly I didn't realise when I bought this phone that it was from a non-European supplier and Nokia are being difficult about the warranty now that I have a repair issue. If you are not buying this from Nokia then check if the supplier is European or preferably UK based as this may affect your warranty. I may succeed in my argument with Nokia but I may not so be careful folks - they are not as good customer service-wise as HTC.
Secondly the device is prone to software freezes - have had 3 instances now where I have had to resort to the Nokia software recovery tool to re-boot a sulking handset which in 6 months of ownership is not great - had NO issues ever with my old HTC Windows 7 phone but maybe its a newer technology bug thing....Just be aware that this may happen and its very frustrating and time-wasting.

now for the cons six inches might be a bit cumbersome for some so if you haven't got the biggest of hands might not be so easy to handle.
overall I love this thing and would hilly recommend it as long as you can handle its size specs bellow as follows.
.Primary camera sensor size: 20 MP, PureView.
.Display size: 6''.
.Display resolution: Full HD (1920 x 1080).
.Processor name: Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 800 quad core 2.2 gigahertz
.Maximum talk time (3G): 25.1h.
.Battery capacity: 3400mAh.
.Wireless charging: Built-in (Qi standard

Many of these Nokia Lumia 1520's here on Amazon UK are not for the UK region.., and as such you are buying a phone with no factory warranty whatsoever...
Nokia UK phones come with 2 years warranty as standard, but only phones that are for the UK region, and you can confirm this by asking the seller if on the label of the box it says CV - GB...
If it says CV - HK then you have no factory warranty in the UK, but you do have 1 year in Hong Kong..., which is of course no good..
I only found this out when I contacted Nokia here in the UK to register the warranty on my new phone.., so please, please beware..!
