Edit: after 4 months, the headphones will no longer pair with my iPhone (piece of junk, DO NOT BUY!)I think these are average. I will simply list off everything I can say about these. The sound quality and stereo headphones are good.It is a heavy, bulky headset. The buttons do not work on the iPhone.Call quality is terrible. People will not want to talk to me because they always say, "What's all that static, I can barely hear you." -- that's why I'm replacing these with other another headsetBattery life is good.I wouldn't recommend these.

I don't even know how they sound because they are too uncomfortable to wear. The band that goes behind your head is huge, sticks out very far and is nonadjustable. The parts that hook over your ears don't conform to human ears and pull down because the headphones are so heavy. I had an earlier Nokia headset that fit much better and sounded great but it died in less than a year. Maybe I will stay away from Nokia now.

I have been through several different wireless Bluetooth headsets now. I want to share the criteria I believe you need to apply when buying your next Bluetooth headset. The Nokia HS-11W unfortunately fails several of these criteria, as does almost every headset on the market right now.An excellent Bluetooth headset should have the following characteristics:1. Comfortable fit - you need your headset to be comfortable for at least an hour at a time, if not for an entire day. (The Nokia fails miserably; the tines dug into my ear at the top and bottom, and it was impossible to correct it.)2. Secure fit - when you nod or shake your head, you don't want to feel the headset wiggling around or shifting its position. If it does, you will constantly be reaching up to check it and adjust it. (The Nokia does fairly well on this, but the two tines that hold it to your ear may creep over time as they did on my ears, needing occasional help from my right hand to stay in place.)3. Excellent incoming sound quality - anything less and you will not be thrilled. Nearly every headset on the market today fails this criteria. (The Nokia was in the middle of the pack on this; there were times when it was fairly good, sometimes wretched, but certainly never excellent.)4. Excellent outgoing sound quality - surprisingly, there is absolutely no relationship between the incoming and outgoing sound quality. I have tested a wide number of these headsets and nearly every one fails either number 3 or number 4. You don't want your callers to ask if you are calling from a wind tunnel, and you don't want an echo on either end. Echo is a major factor with these headsets. (Although I never heard it myself, my callers sometimes experienced echo; overall sound quality was mediocre besides that.)5. Noise cancelling - your headset should have some form of noise cancelling technology so that others can hear you when you speak in a noisy environment. The best Bluetooth headsets available now offer DSP (digital signal processing) that filters out the noise, but the implementation of that technology is inconsistent, so having DSP does not necessarily mean you will be happy with performance in noisy conditions. (The Nokia does not have any cancellation circuitry, which became obvious when trying to use it in bars or even just outside in mildly windy conditions. I do not recommended it for loud environments at all.)6. Sound isolation design - The noise cancellation is helpful for outgoing sound quality, but for incoming sound, I believe that the earpiece should fit INTO the ear canal, completely blocking out outside noises so that YOU can hear your CALLER clearly. I have tested too many of the other variety, and have been disappointed by the maximum volume being too low, and also by the fact that others could sometimes hear what my caller is saying when they are standing close to me while I use it. I have a pair of Shure E5C earphones I now use for my iPod. These are inserted into the ear canal, and I can assure you from personal experience that this is the most effective means of solving the incoming sound problem. An in-ear design completely isolates the incoming sound, meaning I don't have to turn the volume up very high and can hear even in a very noisy environment. It also helps with the secure fit issue above. (Like most of today's headsets, the Nokia has a speaker that rests on the ear, so it fails this criteria anyhow, but I also found the volume to be too low even in quiet conditions. It was impossible to understand my callers in a noisy environment. Impossible.)7. Fast connection speed and solid connection - when your phone rings, you need the headset to react quickly. Many headsets do not, so you sometimes miss calls because of your headset's slow reaction speed. This can often be the fault of the phone's Bluetooth implementation, not just the headset. Also, you want the connection to your phone to be stable. Many headsets drop off frequently and must reestablish a connection or even be re-mated to the phone. Again, this sometimes is the fault of the phone, but not always. (The Nokia did well in this category, it's the only one of my criteria I could score it highly in.)8. Excellent battery life - you want your headset to need charging as infrequently as the phone itself. In other words, you want it to last at least all day, then you just need to remember to charge it when you charge your phone. (I have not been happy with the battery life; the Nokia is in the middle of the pack. It is also hard to turn on and off, with the power button being difficult to depress, especially with the unit still in your ear, so sometimes even when you think it's off it's still on and drawing power. The battery life should be long enough that, like your phone, you never have to turn it off at all if you don't care to.)9. Low battery indicator - you want to know if your headset is getting close to being out of juice. (The Nokia beeps when it is low on batteries,

I'm not sure what the hell happened but I could NOT get these things to work to save my life. They LOOK nice and FEEL comfy and the LED's are neat, but I tried every possible combo of connectivity set-up, Bluetooth format verification and re-charging and...nothing. Except those lights that I mentioned earlier. Neat lights. So, if you want to look like Lobot from Bespin but don't care about actually LISTENING to your music collection, these little darlin's are for you!

I have been happily using my Nokia BH-503 for several weeks now. However, the headset does have one significant shortcoming: it does not stay in place well because its "behind-the-neck" design fails to keep it up. I was forced to add an "over-the-head" nylon band to my BH-503 in order to support it. As an engineer, this was a simple modification, and anyone with reasonable manual skills might wish to consider this. Before I improved support with an "over-the-head" strap, the BH-503 would hurt my ears and slide down. After one hour or so of wearing time, my ears would start to ache and I would have to stop listening. After adding the strap, the discomfort to my ears disappeared, and I can now wear my BH-503 for hours at a time without any discomfort. On with the sound. Technically speaking, Nokia did a fine job on the BH-503. The controls are well-placed and provide excellent "clicky" feedback. The sound is quite good, especially considering it is coming over a wireless link. In fact, it is "near-audophile" quality. And, of course, being free of a cord just cannot be beat for comfort. The are, however, occasional short "drop-outs" when I turn my head, but I am used to them and they are few. By and large, the superb sound and ample volume of the BH-503 make for an excellent user experience. Synchronizing to my Bluetooth-enabled Nokia E90 was a snap, and all the BH-503 controls work as advertised. The BH-503 and E90 make a good pair and Nokia deserves five stars on technical execution here.My only closing comment is to repeat that I found it necessary to modify my BH-503 headset by adding an "over-the-head" nylon band. I used black nylon strap material cut from a lightweight "Chihuahua-size" dog leash. With careful sewing using heavy carpet thread, the resulting band has a "factory-look" band that even Nokia would be proud of. The only reason I did not give the BH-503 a five star review overall was the fact that I was forced to add a strap to my BH-503 to help it stay in place over my ears and to eliminate the discomfort it caused by sliding off.

I purchased this headset specifically because of the independant on/off button. Most headsets, when on, prevent the handset from ringing. When off, they take upwards of three to five seconds to turn on. Since I do not wear my headset all of the time this is a problem for me as I want to hear my handset ring and be able to turn on the headset to answer the call.Interestingly, the HDW-3 circumvents this problem entirely by allowing the handset and the headset to ring at the same time. If I am wearing my headset not only do I hear the ring tone in my ear, but also from the phone. If the headset is off it is only a matter of pressing the on/off button for a second to activate the headset and take the call wirelessly. Very convenient. The sound quality is very good, and the headset supports phone audio, standard audio, and voice dialing.Bluetooth connectivity is a snap. Whenever the headset is turned on it is discoverable for ten minutes. No fiddling with headset buttons to make the connection is necessary. The headset can connect to a maximum of eight devices, one at a time. The first device it pairs with is the default device, and it will always try to connect to this device first when turned on. If it cannot connect to the default device it will attempt to connect to the last connected device other than the default. One thing that really threw me was the absence of an AC adapter with the headset. Since the headset is by Nokia they apparently expect the customer to already own a Nokia phone. The headset works with several different Nokia AC adapters, which is nice, but if you don't already have one of these then you're faced with purchasing a seperate item just to use this device. Very poor decision on Nokia's part, especially with a $100 original retail price. The ear loops are just rubber bits that sort of snap onto the headset. They're somewhat stiff and very uncomfortable if worn incorrectly. Getting the right fit can be difficult. There are two different sized loops included, but this doesn't really account for much variation in people's ear shapes and sizes. I've found that wearing the larger loop upside down provides the most comfortable fit. It's comfortable enough for short term wear which is what I wanted it for anyway. The very odd little membranous buttons on top of the unit are for the volume. They're a bit hard to press since they're so tiny, and it's hard to tell if you're actually pressing them when wearing the device.Overall, I like this unit. It sounds good, works with the h6315 the way I want it to, and is lightweight. Nokia dropped the ball on wearability and failed to include an AC adapter. If you're looking for a headset to wear as necessary, and you've already got a Nokia adapter laying around then this is a great sounding, easy to use device.Pros:Easy connectivityLightweight and sharp lookingSounds greatPhone and headset ring at the same time.Independant on/off switchCons:No AC adapter includedUncomfortable ear pieceBizarre volume buttons

I settled for this headset with some hesitation after a lot of research. However, I am extremely satisfied with the earpiece. The best feature for me is definitely the way it clips to the ear. It looks kind of funky and initially putting it on is not very intuitive. However, once its on, its on and is going nowhere. I have friends with different brands of earpieces which fell off from their ears. However, I went to an amusement park and rode all the roller coasters and other rides all day long. Nothing could budge this earpiece from my year. On one ride, my sunglasses almost flew off but this one did not move. The second good part is the sound clarity, part of which is due to the design of the clipping mechanism. If you have used ipod style ear bud headphones and handsfree devices, you will realise that without some sort of pressure on the earpiece, sound quality is not really the best. You need to press on it with your finger to get the right and loud sound. However, this earpiece is just like having your cell phone instrument on your ear. THe clipping mechanism creates sufficient pressure and the result is reasonably loud crytal clear sound from the earpiece. It is actually better than my phone (NGage QD).Battery life is also good, along with features like voice dialling, mute etc (which other reviewers have covered below).Due to the strong clipping mechanism, it may initially feel uncomfortable or even hurt your ear after a few hours. However, this subsides within a few days and you will start feeling wierd not having it on your ear :)The microphone is good and the person at the other end is always able to hear me clearly. I also left myself voice messages to check for clarity and it was perfect. One caveat, though applicable to most wireless headsets, is that due to the distance of the microphone from your mouth, this is not suitable for discreet conversations especially if there is some disturbance. This earpiece is better than others in this respect though. There are some features which I wish Nokia had included which you make this headset the uber-headset. I wish there was some indication of battery level. Though I have not run into any trouble, it is nice to know where you stand.A vibrator option would also be nice. Though I know this would end up adding considerable bulk to the earpiece, it seems like a nice thing to have.Overall, I really like the headset and would definitely recommend it to anyone. My friends with other headset like Jabra etc used this one and were really impressed. I have tested it with Motorola and Sony phones and it works perfect there too.

I have everything good to say about using this bluetooth headset. It pairs easy, long standby and long talk time. Conversations are clear, and as full of fedelity available from a telephone. It is small enough to fit in a shirt pocket, but take good care not to lose it. For talk quality, you will be pleased. What you need to know is this headset and many others have batteries that cannot be replaced. I purchased October 5, 2005, and November 9, 2006 gave me a dead battery. It made a year and 4 weeks. To compare, 2 Motorola H500 made 3 years. I was disappointed to trash a good functioning headset since it too cannot replace the battery. I intentionally went to the higher priced Nokia, only to learn a year later it was a poor choice.Next up, look for a review of every bluetooth headset with a replaceable battery.

I have a LOT of difficulty finding any kind headset of either the earbud or hook-over-the-ear variety that will fit in/on and STAY in/on my ear--When I got my new phone (Sony Ericsson W600i) which has no jack for a standard, wired headset, I had an additional challenge to find a BT set that had the features that I need and want that would fit my ear and stay there--This Nokia fits the bill in every way!--It's very lightweight and I'm really surprised that some people have said they found it uncomfortable because I really barely know it's there and it stays in place beautifully--It has all the control buttons that I will ever need and they're very easy to access and manipulate while wearing it--I initially had a bit of trouble getting voice dial to work with my phone, but have since learned that this is an issue indigenous to the phone, rather than the headset and, interestingly, the voice dial feature works just about flawlessly in a moving car or where there's moderate background noise, but almost not at all in a quiet room--Go figure--On the other hand, since that feature is really only of any significant importance to me while driving, I'm quite satisfied with that, too--So far as clarity is concerned, it's been perfect so far--I've experienced absolutely no static or garbling and the sound has been clear as a bell, both incoming and outgoing--The range-from-phone connectivity has also been completely adequate--Battery life has been great thusfar, too--All-in-all and considering the fact that this was on the lower end of the price range of the BT headsets that I looked at, I very honestly couldn't be more pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend it--D

I purchased my nokia headset less than a year ago and it just died today. Despite all its flaws I rather liked it but the unreliable nature of nokia's products is very annoying.Like- long battery life- comfortable fit, never falls off.- easy controlsDont like- Drops connection every now and then- Sometimes calls would be garbled and require a "reboot" of the headset- Unreliable. Died after 9 months.- Nokia's warranty is slow and unfriendly- Only supports Bluetooth 1.1Once you start using bluetooth, you will never want to place another handset to your ear. Unfortunately, most bluetooth headsets have problems with call quality, connection or fit. I guess its time to start looking at devices that support the new Bluetooth 2.0. Looking back at the time I used the HS-11W my feelings are mixed. Did I like using it? Yes. Could it be better ? Very much yes.

After a week or so of reading forum after forum on different available bt headsets, I decided to give this one a shot. Overall, its a keeper. The earclip is different, but definately secure and "forget its there" comfortable (I find it most secure in a horizontal position). The first call I made was from a noisy steak house, no problem on either end of the conversation! It instantly and effortlessly paired with my V3 Razr, and only takes about 3 seconds to connect once powered on. The only change I could see would perhaps be optional eargels, although this thing is PLENTY loud and clear with volume on high. No adjustments are necessary (or possible btw) to change ears with it. The range seems real-world impressive too, with no distortion/static whatsoever when my Razr is within 15-20 feet. Ive actually had people not know I was even on a cell phone, muchless wearing a bt headset.... and this even with my being in a rural cellular void. Works great to put the phone near a window, pull a good cell and talk away on the Nokia HS-11w. No fumbling with controls after a few uses either, seperate volume, call answer/end/voice dial/last redial, and power/mute buttons are a breeze to manipulate.Slick, secure, and it actually *works*! What more could anyone ask.... for a midrange priced bt headset, I recommend it over anything that Jabra or Moto has to offer. Do your homework and hopefully you'll have no buyer's remorse....Btw, if it doesnt fit your ears, you might want to check your family tree for stumps ;-)

I bought an HDW-2 three years ago but returned it almost immediately because of various problems.I bought an HDW-3 over a year ago and like it except for two primary issues.First, it is impossible to use outside because the wind drowns out the communication.Second, the the large earpiece broke--not the electronics, just the plastic attachment--and Nokia customer service tells me "the earloop for your Nokia HDW-3 Wireless Headset is not a user-replaceable part and is not available for sale or to send out." Egads--I have to buy a whole new unit!

I bought this headset almost a year back. It is working well all this time.Initially I had some problems when I switched it off. My cellphone will go on mute, its because the headset has the same button for mute & turning it off. Then I followed the proper method of switching it off i.e. disconnect it from my cell & then turning the power down.It also got disconnected few times during calls, but that was very rare.Overall its a good one. The design is very comfortable & light, you won't even realize that you are wearing it. The audio quality is better than when I talk directly from my phone.I would recommend this.

I chose this bluetooth headset after my corded Nokia Boom headset and Jabra Boom headsets broke. I use a Nokia 6230 (great phone) and previously had a Nokia 6610 (also a great phone).I prefer the behind the ear headset over the bug in the ear versions. I chose this set because the sound quality and comfort of the corded boom was excellent and my overall satifaction with all Nokia products I have owned. I also liked the fact that I could charge the headset with my existing Nokia phone adapter. 1 less thing to carry. After I received the headset I charged it up and began using it. Connecting it to the phone was easy and connection quality is solid. I have not experienced any drops. Those I talk to can here me loud and clear. While I am very pleased with this product on many levels, I cannot recommend it. The audio is not loud enough. I do not have any hearing problems and have never had issues with volume from other headsets. Like another reviewer mentioned, unless you are in a quiet environment, you have to push the speaker closer to your ear to hear conversation clearly. This defeats the purpose of a hands free headset and makes the product almost useless to me since I use the headset primarily in the car and while outside.I plan on trying the Jabra BT250v. The pop port connector on my corded Jabra headset broke, but I did like the ear gel concept. It focused the speaker into my ear and could always here callers well without the phone volume on max. The Jabra has the same behind the ear design I like. This combined with the ear gel should provide good audio quality. The downside of the Jabra is that I will have to carry an additional AC adapter to power it up.

I loved the comfort and ease of use of this headset. I especially liked that I could use my Nokia chargers for it. Some drawbacks after about 3 months use were: the volume was always too low! Even at the highest level, (and my excellent hearing)I had to press the ear mike into my ear while talking. This made my "hands free" a "one-handed earpiece". The function buttons on the top side of the earpiece were a problem to find while driving. All the buttons were tiny and felt the same - adjustments were troublesome. The answer/hangup function on the bottomside of the boom was convenient however, as was the comfort of the piece and the fact that I did not have a plastic/rubber thing in my ear (which I find distasteful). The charge time did not seem to match the specs. The piece had to be recharged frequently and did not hold much of a charge between uses. In all, I would actually put up with the shortcomings again in exchange for the comfort and design but the volume issue is a disapointing dealbreaker.

I purchased this headset from a local retail store. I was very impressed at its clarity, comfort, and ease of use...Then it went completely dead after 32 days, just in time to overlap the 30 day return policy from the store. I then mailed it to Nokia for repair. Everytime I call, they say they cannot find my records and put me on hold for 30 minutes before finding it. It has now been 8 months and Nokia has given me the run around last stating that they would send me a check for the amount of the now discontinued bluetooth headset. Let's just say, I am still waiting. In conclusion, Nokia has really bad customer support. Out of principle, I will never buy a Nokia product again.

This was very easy to set up with our phone (Nokia 6255i) and worked easily... until day two... We were unable to answer a call w/ the BlueTooth, but once answering by the phone, the headpiece worked great. Checked w/ phone company today- they claim it's a software glitch w/ Nokia. If you shut the phone off, and turn back on again, the BlueTooth works fine again. Nokia is supposedly working on a correction program for this issue. The earpiece is very comfortable- though a little weird looking to figure out how to use it. Hubby came home and forgot to even take it off. Was very handy for him last night to answer the phone while snowplowing without having to dig the phone out of his pocket, etc.Good Luck!

I paired this unit with my Motorola RAZR V3 from Verizon. It works flawless. Prior to this unit, I had a Jabra 250 V (broke down after a few weeks)and a Motorola HS850 head set (returned after users on the other end complained a static and/or poor sound). This unit comfortably wraps around my ears and stays on there. Only thing I wish it had is longer battery life (Nokia claims 6 hours) compared to other units sold in the market. But on the plus side the unit will flash a red light when the battery is low. This is a big plus for me since most bluetooth devices sold in the market do not have a low battery warning.
