The games present a somewhat different difficulty for a nearsighter. As opposed to standard menus, your environment is constantly changing. Also, in order to read some of the request prompts, you have to have your pointer on the screen... Guess what happens if you're too close to the screen, reading the text? Yep, it goes away, replaced by "Point your remote at the screen to continue."
After making a `Mii' representation, I started playing the Wii Sports. This is HILARIOUS, seeing a cartoon version of yourself bowling, in a boxing match, playing Golf (horribly) and volleying tennis balls. I wasn't that good at the Baseball, as I couldn't see the ball. Oh well, at least I can rest easier knowing the ball can't really hit me in the forehead, eye, nose, shoulder, arm, stomach, leg or crotch... yes, CROTCH.
Super Mario Galaxy is a BLAST! You're controlling Mario on small round planets, sometimes upside down. You might occasionally find yourself tilting your head sideways. There is, however, a lot of reading involved, so I have to scoot up and read, then scoot back to play. Once again, a minor inconvenience when compared to game play.
Tim, Michelle and a few others know I'm a die hard Metroid fan. The last two games, Metroid Hunters and Metroid Prime 3 have been a struggle for me. Hunters, because of the REQUIRED dependency on the touchscreen, and the small viewing area, (I understood, when I bought the game, that this/these might be an issue.) and Prime 3 because of the new controls. The hardest part of Prime 3 for me is knowing what to shoot at. One of the first tasks is to `calibrate your weapons' by aiming at 4 targets. Unless you're (I am) standing face to face with them, they're hard to target properly. The Wii remote controls your facing direction. Your Nunchuck controller thumbstick moves you forward, back, left, right. The other buttons have various functions. In my first skirmish with space pirates, I had a hard time making them out from the flashing backgrounds and walls. A lot of the time, the only way I could target an enemy (I haven't learned how to lock on like you could in Primes 1 and 2.) is see where the purple projectiles were coming from, move toward that spot and fire. Not good for the health meter.
Do I regret buying the Wii? Not at all. I, and other nearsighters just need to understand there will be difficulties to work around. Otherwise, it's an excellent way to uproot a couch potato and give them a little bit of exercise.

For everyone I know who has decided to get rid of their Wii it's because they just want a system that they can sit and play a 'normal' game that doesn't require much body movement. But what many don't take into account is that you can easily buy GameCube games CHEAP (but as a caution you must also buy the GC controllers), and play GameCube on Wii as well as download numerous classic games where you can sit as long as you want and still be entertained for hours. I have downloaded 9 games so far on my Wii. I even use the Wii to surf the internet and watch youtube videos. If you can't stand using the Wiimote for typing, just attach a USB keyboard to your Wii. I even bought a 'Classic Controller' because I get tired of putting the Wiimote on its side to play certain games.
Very fun system. If you don't buy it, at least go play someone elses!

I mean, I totally understand if it is all about the profit margin, Amazon.com, but seriously, the Wii is garbage.
Or rather, Nintendo is garbage. I was loyal to them ever since the original 8-bit NES came out. But now?
They won't even let me get into the Wii Shopping center, and they TOOK MY MONEY WITHOUT GIVING ANYTHING IN RETURN. You know, like the points I should have received. Or access to the Wii Shop at ALL.
I know that nowadays freedom of speech is a questionable thing at best in the USA, but as a United States Soldier, I find this just a little bit disappointing.
Seriously?
My comrades deserve better than this, and not all of us are stupid enough to not understand the concept of exchanging things considered to be of value for other things that are considered to be of value. Like money.
But to be fair, I'm just going to write this off as a loss. And I will never buy another Nintendo product as long as I live.
Luckily for Nintendo, I might get nailed by an IED in the next year or two, so I doubt they would care too much about me as a lost customer.

The systems controls are great when implemented right. I bought the Conduit and although the game was a little weak the controls were fantastic.
The graphics can be decent if a company chooses to do so. Maybe not on par with other consoles but still really nice.
There are some games on WiiWare and of course they have plenty of classics you can download.
Although not included, if you buy or have a Wii i would recommend WiiMotion Plus as it makes for a more responsive motion control in games that utilize it.
This is a great system that would have been a 5-star for me if the games had been there. Just needs more quality games.

For the last two years on new years eve, I watched my boyfriend and my brother play on my brother's Wii system. I thought it was a nice game system. He brought some fun kids games and some interesting sports games. It was so funny watching them sweat while playing games against eachother. I used to play tennis, so I tried it for a while. I really felt like I was on the tennis court, my arms were sore within an hour. Then I realized this game unit had the capability to be used as an exercise machine.
I asked my brother to borrow the Wii again for a week, but this time with the Fit Board. I decided to try working out before bedtime three times per week for 30 minutes. I really felt the exercise in all of my muscles as if I had been to the gym or had been working out with a personal trainer. I decided right then and there I just had to have my own Wii.
I purchased it and have been using it for the first two months of this year at least 6 days per week for 30 minutes to an hour. Because it feels like a game, and not exercise, it was much easier for me to get motivated to work out. Then I started working out right after work before dinner. So far I have lost... 16 pounds in two months. This motivated me to start eating right again and I haven't felt this good since I was 18 and didn't need to exercise. At 37 years old, I never thought I could touch my toes again and feel this flexible.
Again... This is the best purchase I ever made. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to feel fit and doesn't think they can exercise. I had a back injury a few years ago and didn't think I would ever be able to exercise again. There was no way I could do sit-ups. I have been amazed that a "game console" could help me.
** As for the people who gave this system negative ratings because the Wii told them they were obese... get over it. We all know we need to lose weight. There are exercises for beginers and advanced users alike. I am looking forward to using this everyday. When I see my weight going down, it makes me feel so good. Soon I will be able to fit into the clothes in the back of my closet. I love this!!!

when you take the wii out of the box, the first thing that i noticed is the quality of the packaging and the neat and tidy organization of the parts in the box. The unit itself is suprisingly small and thats important because i dont think its very practical to lug around a 10lb box everytime i want to play a video game at a friends house. Although i only had the basic composite video cables, the video quality was quite good and depends alot on the tv you are using. I have a 63" samsung dlp tv and the video through the basic cables is perfectly clear and crisp, however on a more inexpensive tv, you are reminded that your only using composite cables. The unit itself is physicly more solid then any game console i have every used, including sturdy hinges on all doors. from when you put the bateries in the controller, and when you easily set up the system, and when you realise the wiimote strap comes pre attached, and the sensor bar already has sticky pads on it, or when you plug in a connectors on the back, you can tell that nintendo tought about lots of details. I just cant stress enough how solid the unit is and you can really tell that its a quality product.
The controller is the most incredible i have ever seen or used. It exceded my expectations as far as responsiveness also because the motion tracking has no delay. the sensor bar is just two sets of flashing infrared led's that the wiimote uses to understand the location and distance of your tv for pointing. When you use the wii sensitivity adjustment tool, you can auctually see what the wiimote is seeing on your tv and it becomes clear that the wiimote auctually has a camera sensor in the front for picking up these signals, as you aim the wiimote at any ifrared emmiting device like a lightbulb or candle the wiimoe auctually sees the signals as if it were looking around. overall the remote has far more advanced triangulation then i originaly thought. The accelerometer's in the wiimote also use the constant force of gravity to know how your holding the wiimote, so that the wii can triangulate exactly how its being held and moved on every possible axis. The pointing relys only on the accelerometers percieved motion of the wiimote and the sensor bar location so that having a different kind or size of tv doesent effect the speed or sensitivity of the wiimotes pointing functions, thats important because it really eliminates alot of possible bugs with the whole system although you wont always physicly be pointing exactly at what you trying to point at on the screen. The bluetooth has given me no trouble and you dont have to worry about waking the wiimote up because the wii itself will wake up the controler or prompt you to push a button that may confirm something on the screen and at the same time wake up the wiimote without you knowing. The wii can tell you the battery life of the remotes and can adjust the volume out of the speaker. The rumble function makes using the remote more tactile and the feedback is important to make the wii easier to use because the feedback during pointing is helpfull to be more accurate. Although the wiimote's little speaker wont blow you away with quality or loudness, the sounds are not distorted at full volume and it adds an unexpected level of immersion and detail to the wii experience. hearing the racket hit the ball (the sounds are well timed and mix well with the sound from your speakers) and feeling the rumble in the controller just ads another level to the wii experience and makes the games just that much more fun. the nunchuck has the same motion sensing capabilities as the wiimote itself and plugs into the bottom of the wiimote without having to do anything other the plug it in when you want to use it and unplug it when you dont. No other action is required. its all very simple to understand for anyone. Another thing that i never knew but is a greatly appriciated feature is that you never have to reset the system when you want to play a different game or return to the main menu.
Im basing most of my review off of my experience playing wii sports, and an important thing to note is that there is a h
