See rating of bad RangeMax 240 router and Amazon's changing horse in middle of stream. Amazon agreed to send return authorization paper work on 9-14-06 and this has not been received even after a second request. The response I received today wants me to jump through hoops to return even though 9-14-06 response did not require this. Today is 11-05-06. Bad customer service from Amazon!

This thing was a major hassle from the start. Difficult to set up (even for an experienced computer user like me). Once it was set up, it took about 5 minutes to get an IP address every time I connected to it. For the non-tech savvy, that means I would turn on my computer, connect to the network, then wait 5 minutes to be able to go online, even though I was laready fully connected to the device. That level of terrible performance is simply unacceptable.Then, about 4 months after I bought it, it up and broke.Don't waste your money on this terrible, terrible piece of equipment.

I've been using this adapter with the rangemax router for several months, never a problem. I read the other reviews, and am dumbfounded. I actually use this one when other adapters, or built in adapters do not work. This one works evey time, and the range is better then I had expected.

I've had this adapter on my son's desktop for over 6 months. I wanted an easily removable adapter, so I could remove it if internet interfered with homework. The install was fine; I always find it easiest to install updated drivers from the website rather than the install disc. they are always outdated. So I downloaded the drivers onto a jump drive on my pc, then installed them onto his pc. Attached the usb adapter and set windows zero config to run the wireless and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I did not install the Client software that came with the adapter. I use StatBar to monitor my access (freeware). I have not had issues with overheating as mentioned by others. The unit is powered up 10 hours a day. I like having the extension cable so we can aim it towards our router (2wire). I recommend it as a simple upgrade as long as you install only the drivers from the website and use Windows to configure.

The product was bad right out of the box according to two Dell Techs. I got premission from Amazon to return on 9-14-06, but still haven't gotten the necessary paper work from Amazon aws of today (11-05-06). It seems Amazon now wants to change horses in the middle of the stream and make me jump through hoops to return it. Bad customer service!

I bought this card bundled with the matching router. The router works just fine but I when I tried to use the card in an XP portable (UK Evesham) it produced a massive slowdown in the PCs performance. The CPU utilization went to 100% whenever I plugged the card in. Using SysInternals process monitor showed that 50% of the CPU was being chewed up by Hardware Interrupts, and the rest by deferred procedure calls. So something was very wrong.It may be because there were 2 wireless routers within range, one a LinkSys and the other the NetGear both oeprating on Channel 11.Whatever the reason, it was unusable.

I have to agree with most reviewers here, this product and all other Netgear products stink. The WGU624 I have has several probems:1. Many people complain that this product needs constant rebooting. This is because if your home's power network has unstable voltage, it will make the WGU624's wireless network to go down (interestingly, any computers connected to it via wired LAN will still work). So basically, whenever the dehumidifyer turned on or off, or when someone used a vacuum cleaner in the same room, or the air conditioner in the house turns on, the wireless router had to be rebooted. I had to shell out another $30 to buy an automatic voltage regulator so I could stop worrying about rebooting it.2. This thing keeps assigning conflicting IP addresses to different computers, both on the wired and wireless network. That get's pretty annoying, especially when I add a new computer or network device.3. The actual wireless range is at most half of that advertised. I have it located in the kitchen, which is right next to my backyard, and it barely covers 1/3 of the backyard. It has especially poor performance if the signal has to travel through a wall or floor/ceiling.4. It has a lot of trouble connecting to Netgear's WG111U wireless USB adapter, which is the adapter that is supposed to go with this router. The non-Netgear wireless adapter in my tablet PC works beautifully with no problems, so it is really weird that the WG111U would have problems connecting with the WGU624.Overall, I have to say I am extremely disappointed in Netgear. Not only do their products fail to deliver, but their website and support aren't any good either. I would steer clear of anything with the Netgear name on it, at least until they get their act together. I have had many issues with Linksys products in the past too, so I guess next time I try to set up a wireless network I will try either D-Link or Belkin.

Installation wizard straightforward. The LAN (one desktop, 3 laptops) works fine with almost the same data transfer rates as our wired network this kit replaced. Internet Access however is much, much slower (sometimes slower than dial up) and it regularly drops the connection -perhaps 3 to 4 times an hour. I am not a clueless IT user but I gave up with this one. We've had professional network engineers (added cost) in twice to try and correct the internet issues without success. With a 4meg internet connection and 240mbps kit (bought corresponding netgear cards too!) I had hoped for a seamless transition from wired to wireless. Given netgear's claims, I have to say I am very disappointed.

With cutting edge technology, the coverage and speed from this router is amazing. I can take my laptop across the parking lot and still get a super strong signal. My office is behind a 12 inch cement wall and this Netgear router gets around it. You will be very happy with this router it is like no other wireless signal.We use it for streaming music to a Netgear MP101 music server. With our old router, it would occassionally lose the signal but with the WPNT834, it never even hesitates and we can play music all day long without interruption.Set-up was easy, put in CD and the wizard had me go through the steps - even telling me when to plug in the cables and what order to turn everything back on. It was also easy to set-up security with WEP or WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK and specifying only my laptop and MP101 having access. The configuration browser page is easy to understand and simple to use.I also use the 4 wired ports on the back. Top speed there, of course, too.It comes with stands so it can sit upright and it looks cool, white with blue and green lights! My robot friend!

Wow, this was a find! I purchased it in July and have had no problems with it. I actually purchased it from another site "refurb" and mine is FABULOUS! I am pairing it with an old Netgear WiFi 11b system, and when I was visiting family, they had the D-Link 54g and wow a tri-level home and I had outstanding signal. So I give this a BIG THUMBS UP! I am preparing to purchase either the Next or Mimo router this evening..so wish me luck!

Have to say that I was concerned by some of the negative reviews on this site, but I went with CNET's comments and made the purchase. No problems, was up and running within 20 minutes. The set up is easy and the speed is awesome. I am using the router with a netgear wireless print server. No complaints from my end. Lastly, I have noticed no interference with our cordless phones or baby monitor - a problem we had with our old router.I did speak with customer support to get a better understanding of encryption options, they were very helpful.

Like other users have experienced, this unit is no longer functional after 18 months. The wired base is still working but the wireless range extender no longer fires up all 3 led lights. Poor product Netgear!

I purchased this product and ran home to try it out. not 5 minutes after plugging it in to my computer, my computer freezes. I restart and it says my device is malfunctioning. I manage to get it working for about 5 minutes before it craps out on me again. I try upgrading the drivers and it refuses to connect to my network. I'm a network engineer and I am well versed in what I am doing, but this card has given me nothing but trouble. I had to disable the software that came with it and use the windows wireless software to connect. This only keeps me alive for about 30 minutes before freezing. I talked to netgear support and they tell me that my processor isn't supported, which is total BS and just an attempt to get out of supporting me, they wouldn't even let me return the product. My advice: go with linksys or d-link or SMC, ANYONE but netgear.

This router exceedss all the secutiy features of other routers with enhanced security features. - Parental control - excellent, fully automatic and easily customized - Virus, Spam, and Spyware Protection for the whole network - email settings - this feature emails logs of all sites visited and any blocked pages. - Keyword blocking - Excellent true 108MPS and range - Easy Setup - although my setup did challenege the standard since I use a firewalled router/modem for DSL that was trying to assign an IP address in the same range, but Tech support was very effecient and friendly.I purchased one unit and the entire network is protected. This is the way network protection should work. I have tested products from the following manufacturers and reccommend this product over the competition because they do no offer the same richness of features, nor the complete protection this product does for the price.Linksys - WRT624DI-Link - DI624

Got 2 of these to make a local area network between myself and neighbor down the street. We have what I think is a fairly simple network (router to ap to remote ap), and between the awful documentation, terible support (besides language issues, they just won't answer the questions you ask), and a web interface issues, I am quite disappointed. 2 stars because it took my friend (a guy with multiple network certifications), and myself (with a bs in computer science), many evenings to get it to work. Would have done 1 star if we never got it working. Even now, we don't have the house-to-house thing inplace due to needing a better antenna. My advise: go straght to the forums for support if you can't get it working on the first 10 tries. This might be a good piece of harware, but without good software and good support, it is not worth buying.

This review is a little old. I had already purchased the netgear router and one wireless adapter in January'06. But i needed a second one as I now have three computers in the house feeding off the same DSL internet connection.Performance is good. I live in a two storey concrete house , the laptop is at different locations around the house and the 2nd desktop is upstairs. Signal strength varies but generally both work well! installation was easy, no problems to date.

I've only had this for a couple days, and so far it had been working alright for me. This morning, I wanted to play some online games so I brought out my command line and ping'd some nearby servers, but there wasn't any response. Then, when I tried to connect to the internet, nothing was hpapening. So, I thought I was having HW connection issues, so I updated the drivers. After reinstalling, and using the supplied netgear config utilities, same thing happened again, where the ping command messed up my internet connection.So, i reinstalled again and used the windows config utility, and the ping command no longer caused problems. also, i could see more servers when i looked for a game to connect to. long story short, don't use the netgear internet config utilities when it asks you, use the winxp netzero config or whatever it is called. and get the latest drivers cause the ones i had were 1.5 years old

Don't get this adapter unless you are:A: In an airconditioned room, andB: Plan on using no operating system beyond Windows XP, andC: Enjoy talking to brick walls for customer support.I live in Australia. It is summer, and it is hot. And if being hot and sweaty isn't enough, my shiny new wireless adapter keeps dropping out every time I try to load a page. This makes me angry. This is purely a heat issue, having a fan blasting at it seems to solve the problem, but a well engineered device shouldn't NEED that.I am also an IT student. I like the idea of experimenting with different operating systems. Like Windows XP x64 edition. And Linux. I dare anyone to get a straight answer out of Netgear Customer Support as to whether they plan to produce 64-bit drivers. Their solution is to cover their eyes and pretend the future doesn't exist.My solution: cover your eyes and pretend Netgear doesn't exist. If you want a truly robust solution, buy a wireless bridge/client/access point. There is nothing to install internally or even any software to install, and they offer much more flexibility. I'm just frustrated I didn't do any research. I THOUGHT Netgear was a reputable company. How wrong I was.

I have sitting in my garage, a pile of recently purchased routers which have all become dust catchers after hooking up this WPN824 and the accompanying wireless cards. I read the reviews here at Amazon and noticed the negative ratings did not mention whether they were using RangeMax cards on their wireless devices so I thought I would take a chance.I have both RangeMax and other older "g" cards and the RangeMax cards make a huge difference though the other "g" cards still work better than our previous Linksys and Netgear systems did. Our router is in a back room with the wireless systems through two walls in the front room in the house, and for the first time in years we get a good solid connection to our wireless devices. I should also note that we placed the router on a non-metallic box away from other electronic devices and that seemed to help quite a bit. I am going to purchase a WGXB102 Netgear extender kit to see if it helps the other cards, though I see it is limited to 54Mbs, so I am not sure if it will help the RangeMax system or not, but figured it is worth a try considering the great reviews the kit is receiving. Anyway, I highly recommend this RangeMax system.PROS: Great range and speed. Nice design.CONS: The blinking lights cannot be turned off at night and light up the whole room like a disco ball.4-12-06 Update:There is a problem and Netgear doesn't seem to want to fix it. They do not address it on their forum nor will they respond in an email. Many users (myself included) are getting random network disconnects which are requiring a reboot of the router. It is not fun. The firmware has not been updated for a very long time. Also, in the version 2 model (identified by a v2 on the model number - there is now even a v3), you can now turn the disco light off.

Perhaps I am luckier...my Netgear adapter "crapped out" five times in the first two weeks. After reading all these negative reviews, I decided just to take it back while I still could. Netgear support was spotty--some reps really tried. But I had one simply give up and walk away fromt the call!

I bought this product to use it as a bridging client in an existing belkin wireless network and it failed to pass any data even though it showed connected to the belkin Access point. According to the Netgear docs this access point can operate as a access point or as a bridging client but what the fail to tell you is that it bridges only in a netgear environment. After spending 20 mins on the phone with Netgear they told me i needed to buy a different model which is non netgear-proprietary or more netgear access points....How can a company like this be selling proprietary hardware in todays day and age...Leon McCalla

The range of reception on this USB 108 wireless adapter is not strong or reliable. I have always had great reception and speed using my Netgear 108 network card, but using the same computer and just changing to the USB adapter I have found that the reception and speed is not even an tenth as good as my original card. I will be returning the item. Unfortunately my PC's standard internal wireless card is better and faster than the Netgear USB.-- Sorry.

I purchased Netgear's RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824) and two RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapters (WPN311). After reading the reviews here, I knew to install the software first and then the hardware. It worked without a hitch! I've never setup a wireless network before, but I had this one up and running in minutes.My furthest PC from the router, is about 150' away, on another floor in the basement. My connection to the router is always between 95% to 100%. Not a single problem in the month I've been using it.Hope this helps.

If yours works, great. However, it may not. So I'll skip my long story and offer 3 advices:(1) Buy local. Yes I know it's more expensive.(2) Don't try "support" - unless you have plenty of time. Go straight to the store to get it replaced or returned.(3) SunRocket IP phone users beware. Support from both vendors are no good.It's great speed when it works.
