Neat little DAC
I bought a chrome cast to bring my vintage hi fi into the 21c. I had read that the Chromecast can be improved with an external dac over toslink rather than direct out with the minijack. For £20 I thought it was worth a try. I wasn't prepared to spend hundreds on a brand DAC as how different can they be internally? I'm not sure what the DAC chip is in this unit but it's capable of 24bit 192kHz. I haven't spent much time a/b but if there is no improvement over the Chromecast I'll use this elsewhere in my home as it's a neat unit and will be useful. It's well made and feels quality. The optical cable seems ok but I bought a different one as I needed mini jack for the Chromecast. With this set up a can stream hi Res audio to my 80s hifi for a total outlay of about fifty quid. There is no usb power included, which is ok. Rather than have 3 bricks plugged in to a power strip (this, chromecast, Amazon fire stick) it was an opportunity to get a single brick with 4 usb chargers and free some plugs up. I'm happy with my purchase.

Long term review
I've had one for two and a half years and it's still going strong. No substantive complaints, but one minor issue is that the the outer part of the volume control split and broke off. However, it's no real problem as it's just a bit of plastic moulded around a radially serrated metallic centre spindle that you can still easily turn. In any case, all the broken bit added was an indication of the volume level, which you don't really need as you can clearly hear whether the volume is what you want.
I bought it at £19.99, but now it's only £15.99 and, I'd say, on the whole robust, reliable and effective. I'm probably going to buy a second one for something else shortly and would recommend it. Just be careful with the outer part of the volume control -- not sure why mine broke; I could have been inadvertently a bit rough with it.

NO USE TO ME BECAUSE..
I wanted to use it with with my dvd (coax) & TV (optical) but the inputs are not switchable. Returned because I'd have to unplug the toslink cable when using the dvd player. Also, the instructions states: "not compatible with Netflix or Youtube video websites". However it worked fine on both using a Firetv stick plugged into my TV, and the sound quality was good.
Consider it as a quality headphone amp for use with just one source (either Co-ax or Optical)

The item suppled functioned as described but was delivered to 18 Prospect Road, Langford, BEDS not 18 Windsor Way, Langford BEDS----not happened before----neighbour delivered as she knew who it was intended for!!!!

Excellent DAC for TV with digital sound only, but optical cable needs upgrading.
I bought this to use with a new Samsung television, which only had a digital out for sound: i.e. no analogue cable sockets. Using the DAC box and the provided cable, I was able to play the sound from the TV out thorough my existing analogue amp. The build quality of the box is good, and the sound was fine. However, when I replaced the provided cable with a better one made by Neoteck themselves, there was a noticeable improvement in the sound quality. I would recommend doing this. My only criticism, therefore, is that the provided optical cable is not realising the box's full potential. This being so, why not provide this superior cable with the product? :

Samsung Smart TV analogue out = sorted
Needed to connect a Samsung Series 5 TV which only has digital audio out to Sonos system which only has a 3.5mm analogue audio in socket
I simply connected the device using supplied Toslink cable to TV, own supply 3.5mm to 3.5mm audio cable from headphone jack on device to Sonos line-in and powered up the device using supplied USB cable either powered by TV USB port or your own USB power adapter (phone charger).
Selected digital audio out on TV and line-in on the Sonos and excellent noise free sound came out. Only thing left was to balance the levels using volume control on device and in the Sonos control app to my preference.
Worked a treat for me and exceeded my expectations in terms of sound quality.

Brilliant! Does the job at a reasonable price.

This device enabled me to use the optical output on the TV and convert it into analogue audio.
I am extremely deaf and have a device which takes the audio output and feeds it via Bluetooth directly to my hearing aids.
One of the benefits of this device is that it also amplifies the analogue audio signal which you can justify the volume control to suit your own requirements.
I am fact bought two of these devices and now have them installed on a couple of my TVs.
I recommend them unreservedly both on the grounds of quality of build and performance.

What a neat gadget
I have just upgraded to SKY Q. I did have one of the 2TB HD boxes which I plugged my wireless headphones in using the RCA ports in the back. The Q box only has and optical port.
This gadget converts the optical signal to the RCA brilliantly. My Sennheiser headphones have their own volume control, and I only needed to turn up the volume minimally on the gadget to achieve the same level of volume control as I had before with the old SKY box.
The Q box also has USB ports, one of which is being used to power the gadget, saving a valuable plug socket!
Just a note, the instructions say turn it off when not being used, it has been powered on constantly for 48 hours now (used for a few hours) and it is not even warm. Seems very impractical to putting the USB connector in and out couple of times a day!
The SKY Q box does not power down the USB port when it goes to standby by the way.

Neotek 192khz DAC
Palm of the hand size and beautifully built. Connections are high quality and being usb powered switches the unit on and off with the TV. I did a sound quality test on BBC hd using the headphone out into reference AKG headphones that I use for music production and what sounds like a racket on the new Samsung TV became a symphonic orchestra with tight bass and detailed highs with good dynamics. No hiss detected on quiet sections. Can't imagine why TV manufacturers don't build something like this into the TV so that owners can just plug in a hifi system. Feeds into a Denon DF 101 system and Monitor Audio speakers but headphones reveal more detail and space but thats because of where the speakers have to be placed.
Volume control affects headphone out as well as left/right audio, volume set to halfway, above halfway makes no difference but set accordingly so not to overload amp input stage. Used a cable mountain .5m optical lead.

As Expected
I have only had this unit for a week, hence the 3 stars for durability, however it has performed as expected with no real issues. The only issue I have is that I am not able to switch off the red power light and since I am using the unit at night, its another light that remains on all the time.
I am using this with the optical connection along with an RF headphone transmitter and its working fine. I will adjust the 3 star durability after 6 months of use

Hard of hearing - need headphones at different levels to tv speakers
I bought this as I am hard of hearing (I wear hearing aids) and I use headphones to watch tv. My partner has normal hearing so I cannot hear the tv when she is watching it at a normal level. This little gadget plugs straight into the back of my nice new tv and runs off one of the spare USB ports at the back of the tv.
I am now able to watch and hear the tv at a level suitable for me, whilst my partner can listen through the tv speakers at a level suitable for her - Fantastic!
I was worried that the output would not be loud enough but it is easily loud enough and i have it turned it down quite a bit actually from the maximum.

Nice solution for those who are a bit deaf
I bought one of these along with an Onvian optical splitter to enable me to run a pair of headphones at the same time as an AV receiver feeding speakers. Management has sensitive hearing and mine is rather less good and, of course, if you plug headphones into the socket on the AV receiver the speakers cut out. The arrangement works very well as long as the AVR isn't turned up too high in which case you get echo. But, of course, you don't need the phones if the AVR level is high :). The output direct from the Neoteck is fine for the phones but I use it with an aux cable and a battery powered headphone amp just for the convenience of having a volume control within reach. If you have phones with a volume control in the lead then you're well away. Product's nicely made BTW and I've powered it off the USB Socket on the TV.

Great DAC to link my new TV with my old amplifier
I bought a new TV on Prime Day and discovered the only audio outputs were bluetooth and digital. To start with I tried a couple of bluetooth adaptors to link to the RCA inputs of my old Yamaha amp, but there were issues with connection and the volume was weak. So I decided to try this DAC to make use of the optical output instead.
This is a solid and compact piece of kit with an aluminium body and feels very well put together. The sound quality is excellent and the volume control is also a really neat touch to allow me to balance the line level of the TV and other sources into my amp. It is USB powered and I have used a USB port on the TV, meaning it switches on and off with the TV and does not need yet another power supply.
Overall, delighted with this and would highly recommend.

Reasonable product
As soon as I opened the packed the volume knob fell off but I put it back on. Easy to install and aside from an initial buzz when I first installed it (which seems to have gone now) it sounds pretty good.

Just a nudge off being perfect!
Nice little unit, useful volume control. Sound clear and precise from Q box. Red on light a bit of a nuisance - prefer not to see these, so tucked behind stereo - if that does not bother you then ignore that point! Cable for USB charging included, you'll need USB port or a plug. The optical cable is also included but not that great, so you may prefer to upgrade. You'll need the other cabling to attach to the stereo (or your headphones!!) All in all , not the perfect package, but for the price is well worth the outlay!

Neotech headphone amp
Solved my problem very inexpensively. My Smart TV has no headphone output, as is the case with others according to what I've been reading. This little gadget plugs into the digital audio socket, converts the sound and amplifies it adequately enough to enjoy what I'm listening too. Ive used a little velco to fix it in a convenient position on the back of the tv..Why Smart tv's dont install headphone output is beyond me??
Just want to add that If you want to blast your eardrums to smithereens, this amp won't do it.

Does The Trick.
My sole purpose for purchasing this device, Is to use with my MacBook Pro. As many know, Apple released them with a faulty hardware/headphone port, where it gets fixed on ‘optical out’
Apple claim no responsibility for this obvious defect, so this little device is a great solution to the issue.
It sounds much better than the internal Apple output, which is helped by the volume control. But have found the volume control only works so far, then stops functioning just over the halfway point.
Superb device, but why only three stars? There is a slight earthing hum, which is obviously louder with increased volume.
The 85cm (0.85M) USB power cable is to short and pointless, so expect to be purchasing a longer, better quality Micro B USB cable. I opted for the Belkin MIXIT↑ Black Micro-USB to USB ChargeSync Cable 2M, which does the trick. Along with a better TOSLINK Optical Digital Audio Cable.

Easy headphone connection to modern Tvs
Many TVs no longer have a 3.5mm headphone output. This connects to the digital optical output and provides a suitable analogue output. It is powered from a USB socket on the TV so it is only on when the TV is on. All necessary cables are included so nothing more to buy. It is in a metal case and appears very robust. Sound quality is excellent for TV use and there is no hum or noise.

Impressed with this
I needed something to connect optical out from a smart TV to my old Marantz amp to Mission speakers. The TV is at the heart of my AV system, HTPC, android TV box etc. Toyed with spending £100s on a dacmagic unit or similar but found it hard to justify. So I took a punt on this unit having read some good things about some of the Chinese units available at unbelievable prices. I am over 50 and attended loud gigs over the years and have hearing to match. I have been impressed with the rich tones, good voice definition, responsive bass provided by this unit. Would I get better if I had spent 10x more? Maybe, and that is only maybe but I am sure it would not be 10x better. I would recommend this unit, the sound is better than soundbars I have heard that cost much more.
