I first bought the VX-6000 and it works ok but my daughter calls me on Skype with no webcam so I got the VX-7000 and she used the VX-6000. The VX-7000 is focus free and needs more light but it is sharper with better frame rate. It had a nice heavy metal body and fits my LCD Screen. Since I already had lifecam software installed, I just plugged it in and was ready to go. Sound is not as full as the VX-6000 but seems to cancel noises in the room better. I did notice that it gets warm when in use but never noticed that with the VX-6000. I use it with Skype and Picasa and does well.

I bought this Product for my Brother for Christmas and it only work for about 3 hours and then it quit working. I would not recommend you buy this product at all.

Microsoft VX-5500This is the second Microsoft Webcam that I've gotten. The first being the VX-3000. While it is not substantially different I'm happy to see they made some refinements to the design of the button and the base.Overview-Physically it's a nice looking webcam. It even has a detachable faceplate with red, white and blue faces. Squareish in shape with a "windows live" button up top. The fact that they shrank the button is a big plush from the VX-3000. With that cam every time you tried to adjust the cam you ended up hitting the windows live button and being prompted to install/launch windows messenger.The base is integrated and kind of a wire frame assembly. It is substantial enough to ground the cam. The back cord is not so thick/stiff that it makes positioning the cam difficult. For laptop use the base unhinges in the rear to form something like an "L" turned on its side. At the front there is a small lip at the top of the L that will catch on the top of your screen and then the bottom of the L provides the support.InstallationInstallation was fairly straightforward. Make sure to put the disk in before hooking the cam up. They have that mentioned in several places in the packaging. The disk runs automatically and does the install. I did a standard install on a Dell 630 Laptop and it took about 15 minutes for the actual install and downloading of the latest drivers. I thought that a bit long but to be fair all operations involving the CD/DVD seem to take longer on that machine.After installing the hardware I plugged in the cam and it was quickly recognized. Went through the adjust your volume wizard and then it was ready to go. It was recognized by Yahoo IM and I was chatting away.PerformanceThe best I can say about the performance is it's a webcam. Very average. I've seen better, I've seen worse. It works. I've got webcams that are WAY older with lesser system requirements that do better.As part of the software they have some "cute" features where you can distort your face or overlay it with hats, sunglasses or other gimmicks. It's an interesting novelty for my kids, it kept them focused on it longer than they would have otherwise because I could make their face funny in a different way every few minutes. But for a regular conversation...no.So to summarizePros-Easy to installEasy to useFlexible mountingCons-None really, seems to be very standardConclusionIf you're looking for a decent (not exceptional) webcam this will do the job.

Pros - very easy to install and use, small enough to move around and the lens also angles in the frame, nice look with 3 colored faceplates to choose fromCons - I wish it had a lens cap, so I could cover it when not in use. The picture quality is not perfect, but it does well even though I have strong window light to one side of the room I use it in. The cord is a little short so if you don't have a USB port on your monitor that could be an issue unless your CPU is below your screen (mine is a couple of feet away).I'm happy with the value for the price. I use this for making Skype calls and it's great for that. You can position and move it very easily. It handles a range of light well. The small size and folding design are great for keeping my desktop uncluttered. I haven't used any of the special effects in the software; to be honest I haven't even looked at them.

This is my first webcam installation. Advanced or experienced PC users canbrowse the installation disk, and install only the files and programs onit needed to enable any functions of the product you want, and leave outwhat you don't (like Windows Messenger, foreign languages, etc.)I first installed it as a USB Video Device, and USB Audio Device using XPgeneric drivers. You need to install some drivers from the disk. Installthe drivers in the NX-6000 folder enables full-motion video and the built-in microphone to work. This allowed me to create and save the video reviewyou will see here. It is an .avi file, and plays using Media Player v11.This will not work on Yahoo Messenger unless you can change ColorSpace/Compression from Microsoft's MJPG to RGB 24. Shame on Microsoft because itis a good camera and they try to lock you into their IM service. I haven'tfound a driver yet on the installation disk to do this yet.Here the camera settings and characteristics are set at default until theother drivers to control more features and functions of the camera are in-stalled and enabled. It looks good to me so far @1024x768 on my CRT and itcan be tweaked more. Hope you enjoy my very first video!This was made on a Dell Dimension 4300 w/Pentium 4 1.7Ghz, 1Gb RAM with XPSP3 and Explorer 7.0 using the Microsoft Lifecam NX-3000. WARNING- DO NOTAutorun the installation disk. This product can be made to work with otherIM programs once the correct drivers are installed. I will have more infoabout this next review to help others buying this good VGA webcam. What ishelpful is downloading the amcap.exe program from Microsoft to your desk-top, then you can open it and change the camera settings outside of IM'soffline. Do you like my homemade wood mounting? The top piece is 1/4" inthickness, perfect for the rear bracket to mount against a wood block youcan use double-sided foam tape to mount on almost ANY monitor. See productimages I submitted as part of my review. The lens body rotates about 20 orso degrees up or down. DO NOT PULL OR TWIST THE USB CORD OR YOU'LL BREAKAN INTERNAL CONNECTION.

We are technologically naive and are first time Skype and webcam users so we asked for recommendations from friends. Our friends suggested the VX-3000 and 5000, but based on portability (we only have a laptop), we selected the VX-5500. The webcam was easy to install and folds flat so it's convenient to take traveling. The picture is not of the highest quality, but it's sufficient for conversations with relatives.

The Lifecam 5500 is a cute little webcam that's extremely portable and has a nice long cord. It even comes with three different colored faceplates - dark red, blue, white-- so that you can integrate it into your 'look'. Processor: 1.8 gHzVGA sensor that captures 640x480 video and still 1.3-megapixel images.Warranty: 3 yearLicense: extensive rights assertionI tested the VX 5500 on an older PC running XP/home. The first thing that I noticed, besides the fact that there seemed to be a lot of packaging, was that there was a tag on the USB that said that the software should be installed before the camera is plugged in.I did NOT, however, follow that advice because I could not agree to the Licensing Agreement. [For more on that, See the Con's.] Instead I just plugged it in and waited to see if the software I had previously loaded for my Gigaware webcam would work. It did. Perhaps it is because I used other drivers that I ran into no installation problem like others have commented on. I just plugged the cam in and it worked.RESULTS:::Pros :::o Plugged right in and worked on our XP Home system.o It works with non-Microsoft drivers.o It worked with Google video chat.o It has a Great stand. [Contrarily it tends to wash out in bright light.]o Cord length is a nice 6 foot. It compared favorably with the Gigaware cam and the 5500 dealt with dim light conditions much better. If you are into such things, there are 'fun' 3D effects like hats and what not that you can download.I'm going to give this product 4-Stars because it's reasonably priced and does a good job. HOWEVER, if a draconian EULA bothers you I would recommend the Gigaware Webcam as an alternative. It is roughly the same price, slightly higher resolution and the EULA doesn't give Gigaware unlimited access to your computer.

I got mine in today and installed on a laptop with Windows 7- first thing it did was have a link to the updated drivers/software that installed flawlessly. I plan to use Skype as I'll be in and out of the hospital for a while undergoing chemo and want to use this to video with my granddaughters. After playing with it a bit and its effects, I "called" my daughter in-law and showed the grandkids just how goofy their grandpa can be with all the effects you can superimpose over your picture, quite funny actually.Video is good, sound is good, installation was a breeze and for the money it's a very good webcam to use for either business or pleasure.Remember, with Win 7 download and install the update FIRST for this to work right on your system.

This video cam was very easily to install and operate. However, the video portions after adjustment was jumpy and somewhat in slow motion. even after adjustments. The audio was fine.

I sent this cam to my mother. She is not technically inclined and had a friend with some knowledge install this for her. Works fine with just Windows 7 driver and skype so now we can talk face to face!

I use the webcam so I can talk with my daughter who is away at college. It was easy to install & easy to use. We use it mainly for phone calls, even though its packed with features that allow you to do so much more. Great resolution and sound quality considering how inexpensive it was.

this webcam is really simple to install and the microphone works great. My primary use is to keep in touch with family and friends, and this webcam does the job. It is not the best picture quality in the world, but it is more than good enough for the average person trying to do the same. I have bought 3 of these webcams and given them to the rest of my family once I found out how well they work.

I like how it fits tightly on the monitor, has a good mic and picture quality is pretty good in a good light. Only thing I don't like is that the "live" button only works with windows live messenger which I don't want to install.

This webcam is very small and folds flat. It's a great idea for travelling with a laptop when you want to keep in touch with your Paltalk friends.Pros:Picture quality is excellent (see Cons).No focus needed. The depth of field is 21 inches to around 60 inches which is a great trend for the webcam product segment.UVC support so you don't need a driver unless you want extra features.Works in Linux due to UVC support.Cool blue LED and interchangeable faceplates.Hand-waving latency is very low (see Cons).Cons:Even with USB 2.0 the hand waving latency is very low but the frames per second is way less than 30.Fast movement will blur your image which is something I did not expect. This doesn't happen on comparable Logitech or even the older Lifecams.Your computer does all of the processing so it will slow down your computer a little bit more than the prior generation of Lifecams did.A word about the fixed focus: the depth of field ends at 60 inches, not infinity. It's not suitable for monitoring a room or objects that are more than 60 inches away. It's intended to sit on your screen or desk.The cable is thick and puts so much weight on the camera it pulls the camera off your screen if you're not careful.Due to the poor motion support this camera is not worth the money. This camera does not compare well to the cheap, generic UVC models I got at my favorite local computer store.

Camera was easy to set up and get running. I did have to uninstall and reinstall but I think I was more my fault for having too much junk on my computer. I bought one for myself and one for my in-laws. They had some trouble with their microphone but other than that the camera works great.The picture quality is what you would expect. Not great but it works for what I need it to do. I would recommend this product.

Many of the advertised features work only with MICROSOFT MESSENGER, they will not function with other messenger/phone programs. Without these advertised features it's just another plain web cam that could be purchased at half the price!

So I got two of these, and would get two more in a heartbeat. My theory was, that using the same cameras on both ends of the transmission would improve the picture and video/sound quality.......IT IS LIKE THE PEOPLE ARE IN THE NEXT ROOM!!! Clarity WAY beyond other web cams, and the sound is great also. This used with Microsoft Messenger is the BOMB!!! Now we can call and see our grandson/daughter and they love it too......The settings on the camera are also very nice, with the video capture and the still capture.....you can also "up" the resolution to a FULL 8 MPXL and have an excellent picture. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to reconnect with family and/or friends........

To Perspective LifeCam buyers,I never received this item. After two weeks of not receiving this item as a gift for my parents, I contacted customer service. They sent me a quick response stating that they would investigate the issue. A month after purchasing the camera, they sent me a refund with no explanation as to why I never received the camera. Nor did they offer an apology or another camera in exchange. I was not impressed!!
