I have Windows XP service pack 2. Before I even plugged the camera in I downloaded the latest software and drivers from the Logitech web site. I installed the software and when prompted plugged in the camera. I have had absolutely no problems with the camera. My system is a homebuilt AMD 64 system. I have all the latest XP updates.The camera itself works great. Even with only light from the monitor you can get an excellent picture due to the right light technology. I'm very happy with this purchase though I was wary because of some bad reviews. Glad I gave it a try.My guess as to why some people have such nightmare stories is that they didn't follow the instructions. You need XP service pack 2 and the latest drivers before even plugging the camera in. People need to read and follow instructions before laying the blame on the company.

It's a really good product. Very crisp image, good for low light.After a several automatic updates of the software, it started to restart my PC. It works a few minutes and then restart.I reinstaled the software, but the problem remains.After pre-installation of my OS->XP - there was still the same problem.I don't know what the reason is, but it is nasty.Otherwise, it's a Great WebCam.

Clear picture, great price, lots of features for fun and practical use. This camera is my second and it far surpasses the older one, which was merely functional and had no extra bells and whistles. It takes still shots and video and connects easily with the Skype program. I enjoy the "track face" feature, which keeps my face centered and zoomed even if I move around. There are also amusing little caroon-like items that can be attached to one's features, such as beards, bushy eyebrows, funny hats, etc. Very silly and goofy but funny too. Most people will not avail themselves too often of those, but they're fun.

With a newborn baby on a different coast from its grandparents, I knew I'd have to upgrade my webcam for the best video quality. We communicate over Skype so my wife's parents can see their first grandchild "live" more often. The quality of both video and sound are impeccable. Highly recommended.Also takes very good videos you can save on your computer to send or upload. I am very surprised at all the great features for the price...

It was easy to set up and I'm really impressed with its audio quality. I use it for video phone calls to Korea and the sound quality is much better than the real phone. Video quality is acceptable. I'm sure it's not the camera but the Internet connection that makes the video not so smooth. It's still great to see each other and chat! Highly recommended.

We bought this several months ago and we love it! The picture and video quality is excellent and using the avatars and fun filters makes it VERY fun to use. We just can't stop laughing when we use them and it makes for some great pictures for myspace, christmas cards, whatever you can think of! With the USB plug in, anyone can use it (even non-techies!) because it's so easy to set up. You can download a ton of new avatars, filters and stuff on the logitech website for this cam. Get it to keep in touch with friends and family while having a hilarious time. :D

Unfortunately, the driver is not compatible with my sound card (Realtek HD audio card) in my Sony Vaio RA820G. I can install the webcam and its works but I have horrible interferences on the sound. There is a compatibility problem between the driver and the sound card. I uninstalled the driver and the sound when back to normal.

This webcam is a fun piece of equipment to have. I use it to "visit" with my daughters. I bought one for each of us. The picture is still a little jerky at times, but the technology has certainly improved for 4 or 5 years ago, when we got our first webcams.

Have had this webcam for over a year now. Setup was smooth and simple on my Dell computer. Bought a new HP computer and setup was again flawless and easy. Use it primarily for video emails. Everyone that receives my video emails says "what camera are you using...it's fantastic". Making video emails couldn't be any easier, press make video, review it if you like, and then press send in email. Just that simple. Picture is surely not high definition, but perfect for the job. Comes with comfortable headset/mic and also built in mic in the camera. Prefer the headset mic as camera mic sounds a little "hollow" due to the distance from the person speaking. Also works flawlessly with Skype. Paid about $60 for the QuickCam Pro 5000 last year, prices seem stable. Don't care for the useless funky cartoon features, but some may.

I bought this camcorder because I knew that it was supported by Mac. I use it with Yahoo Instant Messenger on my Mac, and everything works fine. I liked so much that I bought one for my mom, too. Since the Mac version of Yahoo IM doesn't support audio yet, I haven't had a chance to test the microphone.

I got this to see if the frame rate and image quality was good enough for a deaf person to use it for lip reading. The answer is barely. I'm running this on an older P4 under Windoze XP Pro SE with close to a gig of memory. I had to go to the lowest image quality in order to achieve a frame rate fast enough for a good lip reader to understand. The software that came with the camera works well but I had problems with it interfacing with the EnVision SL software package I was trying out. The video was fine but the audio was absent. I have not tried it with any other video conferencing software. The camera is well made and sturdy, except for the flip-down privacy shield, which would rather be somewhere else and is on the floor behind my computer desk right now. Not a big deal for me. The depth of field is surprisingly good so that lack of a focus control is not missed. I find myself taking a picture almost every time I pick it up because I touch the shutter button located on top of the eyeball. Again, not a big deal.

I bought this Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 for my Mac Pro. It gave me an excellent image but I couldn't use the microphone. After checking with LogiTech, they confirm that this model is not supported on certain Macs, and the Mac Pro (Intel processor) is one of them.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT DUE TO ITS SOFTWARE! I installed the software for the QuickCam Pro 5000 on my desktop and my computer repeated crashed and elicited running error messages. I immediately removed the Logitech software from my desktop. The desktop now runs normally. I thought it was a quirk, so I installed the same logitech software on my laptop. The same problems occurred, except this time, the computer won't allow me to remove the Logitech software. Essentially, I cannot use my laptop and am relying on my desktop. This may not occur with everyone, but the problem is there for Windows XP systems.

Wow, this product works perfectly for my Window 2000 Pro. There were no errors at all. I don't know how other customers say that this product make their computer mess up but for me it works just fine, even though I have worked with computers since 12 years, I see no problem in it.The webcam is very good and very high quality. The software was somewhere average but has more features than other webcam programs, which I won't use much.Anyways, different computers have different functions and programing, so I don't really know if this product may work properly on all computers.

Picture is clear. Have a little bit problem with auto backgroud lighting(may be my computer is a bit old for it. I am still using PIII with less than 500MB of RAM). I first installed the webcam driver only because I did not like all the junk in the logitech CD. However, discovered that the driver alone did not work well(color looks aweful) with MSN Messanger. Reinstalled the logitech software and had a much better picture. The mic works well. A very decent product for the price.

I purchased this webcam so I could see my family while I am away at school. I have a sony notebook and needed something that would stay on the screen. Webcams are pretty much the same when you look at frames/second so that was not a determining factor. However, I was drawn to the echo-free audio, the face tracking, the rightlight, and the picture capture that is right on the camera.This camera is great! It is easy to setup and use. I would recommend this camera to anyone.

This was plug & play on my Mac. I'm running OS X 10.4.10 & iChat AV 3.1.8... Required no software or drivers! Excellent image & sound quality. I'm super happy with this Logitech quickCam Pro 5000 after a disappointing experience with a Macally IceCam that had low picture quality and no mic. Albeit the IceCam was very lightweight & portable which would be convenient for notebook travelers.

Followed the enclosed instructions for installation and updated the software. All worked fine, except for the sound, there was none. Upon restarting the computer, I experienced the worst crash with XP ever. All programs would shut down and send an error message. Luckily after the 3rd computer restart I was able to access the system restore program and restore to an earlier time. Everything is fine now, except that the camera is disconnected and awaiting for a bug fix. Searched the internet and found out my problem was very common. I sincerely hope LOGITECH fixes the bug since the camera seemed to have a very clear picture for the 2 minutes that it worked. DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA UNTIL THE FIX IS AVAILABLE.....

This is the worst camera that I have ever purchased. I had a Logitech before and so went with the brand name. From the getgo I had problems. First the software wouldn't load properly. After that, the camera continuously malfunctioned causing loads of computer problems. After five days, I realized that I had to return the product to Amazon. I have since bought another webcam and it works beautifully proving that it wasn't my computer or incompatibility issues, but a defective product.

Can only agree with the other positive reviews... After researching lots of cameras and sites, i settled on this, but had some angst from some of the problems I'd seen. can only attribute it to older versions of the software....I did the install (before connecting the camera), let it get the latest software update, finished the install, and was on the air. Great quality, the "track me" works very well. Am very pleased with this for great quality at a reasonable price, in a technology where you get what you pay for. NOTE for mac users: There are two models of this camera.. The older one ( P/N 861205-0000, USB id 0x08c5) does not work with mac. The newer version, P/N 861306-0000 usb ID 0x08ce) does. from what i've researched, the newer models will have "rightlight 2" advertised for them. the macam project says they have someone working on a driver for the older models, but it's not there yet. So it's great for Wintel machines, get the new version for macs.

I had a webcam from Creative Live before and I have been using this QuickCam Pro 5000 for about a month. I have to say this product from Logitech is way better than my previous camera although I only spent about $10 more on the current one. I did not have any problem using the camera and the trick is that I downloaded the software directly from Logitech website cause I have Vista as my OS.So enjoy the product as you can cause it will not disappoint you!Xianshu

I just got this webcam so I could have PC-PC calls with my husband while he is in Europe. I choose Logitech because I have used so many of their products and have always been satisfied. I also hate mix-matching computer components in case of incompatibility.The set-up was very easy and I already knew that I may need to update any software so I wasn't concerned. I have a Pent III and they require a Pent 4 but it works just as well with only a slight lag. This is why I only gave it 4 stars. Just make sure you have a minimum of 512 mg of RAM. I figured it will be able to transition fine when and if I upgrade to a new computer.The picture clarity is great and it is amazing how little light you need. I have already sent some video e-mails and I'm sure that the out of town relatives will be insisting on more. I use it with Yahoo w/ voice and it works quite seamlessly. I haven't tried it with MS Messenger yet but since the two IM platforms are now working together I didn't think it mattered.It would be nice to have an instruction booklet to explain all the bells and whistles instead of being shunted to their website all of the time; but it seems like all companies are doing this so they don't have to spend as much on printing and packaging.I got mine at Office Depot and paid $20 more. I wanted to try it out before I made my final choice. Now I think I will take it back and order 2 from Amazon so my husband can have one too.

I just purchased 3 Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 web cameras and have had lots of trouble getting them installed. The installation goes very smoothly when I am signed in with Administrator rights. However, when I want to turn the computer back over to the employee to use under their limited account, the camera will not work. I've given full-control on the security tabs of every program I can think of for the user. I've made the employee an administrator, installed the camera, it works great until I make the employee limited again. When I called Logitech this afternoon, I was informed that the camera was created to use on one account, not with multiple accounts and that this is a "cross platform" issue that they can't help me with, I need to call Micro Soft. Ha! Not on your life!!! Does anyone out there have a fix for this very frustrating problem that Logitech will not help with? Guess they don't mind having cameras returned due to their horrible customer service because that will be what we have to do if we can't solve this issue. Thank you!

Had a cheaper model of Logitech on my Vista computer, and had a Microsoft Webcam on it. Both worked fine. This one, couldn't get a picture to come up, no matter what I tried. Kept telling me the camera was not connected or not working properly. If you have Vista, get a cheapie camera. You might have a bad picture, but bad is better than none. Logitech had no support at all.

Logitech comes out with an update for this videocam about every 4-6 months. I have loaded about 3 updates since getting this videocam about a year ago. Each updates take about 15 minutes to load and install. Invariably something doesn't work after loading the update. After installing the May 2007 update I had restore the computer to get the webcam to work again.

Regrettably, I would not recommend this cam if you want it for Instant Messaging.I could not get it to work on my rather old Dell PC, so tried it on a modern, hi-spec IBM T42. While I can see an image on the Cam's QuickCam feature, and it is recognised by Live Messenger, I cannot get an image to be sent to the person to whom I wish to chat.A search on the Logitech Forums, revealed many, very unhelpful messages and tips in respect of this problem. The upshot seems to be that it is only supported to use with Logitech's Video Calling software (monthly fee) and not with 3rd Party programmes like Live Messenger. A pity, as that's why I bought it.I cannot find any solution on the MS Messenger Forums, or anywhere else, and I'm pretty Computer savvy, so it's just going to gather dust, as it's hardly worth my shipping it back, having shipped it out of the US and paid import duty and taxes on it where I live.

Be warned - if you use any of the new v7.0 Security Suites from ZoneAlarm (that include the new Kapersky Antivirus engine), LOGITECH WEBCAMS WILL NOT INSTALL FULLY - you will have only limited functionality AT BEST. As of 4/28/07, this is an ongoing unresolved issue between the two companies, with both pointing fingers at the other. I'd encourage you to verify in the various forums that this problem is still present before you buy (or not buy).This is not restricted to just the Quickcam Pro, but all Logitech cameras, apparently. I have personally also witnessed it on the QuickCam Fusion.

I ordered three of these for Christmas, but found out that the people I was going to give two of them to already had webcams.The one I kept worked fine. It works like it should -- no problems, no installation hassles and the light adjustment software works well. The microphone works OK too, you don't have to shout to make yourself heard. I use the webcam on an XP system with Yahoo messenger as the communication software. The webcam picture will occasionally freeze but the voice does not, and the picture unfreezes after a while.The two returns were accepted by Amazon without problems. I had to pay shipping because it wasn't Amazon's fault that the webcams were returned, but this wasn't out of line. They printed out a pre-paid return shipping label and a return slip, so I just put the slip in the box and the label on the box and sent it back. The return was really hassle free.

I have owned 4 webcams: from those early B&W webcams (also Logitech btw) to this new Quickcam Pro 5000.My biggest problem with all of the others: the quality of the picture in low light conditions; i.e. in the evening when your sitting behind the PC.The Quickcam Pro 5000 delivers a clear picture all the time. Dark or light; it is by far the best I have owned so far. Even when I am just lit by the light from my (LCD) PC screen it is working! It has good other options, like face-tracking software and digital zoom & tilt.Bottomline: this cam is the best I have owned so far (Jan. 2007) and worth every penny. It works with all major brands of Webcam VOIP software (like Skype) and online communities like Stickam.Note: I own the latest version that says "Rightlight 2" technology. The older one just say "Rightlight" and are sometimes offered for lower prices. Beware: it might be the older product then.

I bought this to use on Windows 2000 Professional. After a LOOOOONG installation and downloading of numerous updates from Logitech, I finally got th webcam to operate. However, the webcam app would freeze after trying to access any menu in the Logitech window. This was consistently the case after many reboots.I believe the QuickCam Pro 5000 just plain does not work well on Windows 2000 since it was released more for XP. I'm returning it and buying a QuickCam 4000 instead that I know will work on Win 2000.Also, please note that the 5000 is NOT supported on the Mac, and even macam support has not been completed as of yet.

Easy to set up, great with Skype, runs smoothly. I am a sophisticated computer user but new to video equipment. This one, however, exceeded all of my expectations. You can beat its quality for this price. My video is always better in quality and in lighting than any of my friends (I have at least ten other people on Skype with cameras). You won't regret buying it!

The picture is pretty good, it adjusts to light very well. The follow-me feature (it zooms in on your face and follows you to an extent) isn't great and neither is the avatar feature. But, for making video and pictures and video calls, it's pretty good.

comes with a built in microphone which captures sound in 5 feet radius and nullifies voices farther than that. Image quality is far much better and you can see crystal clear pictures and somewhat clear when its dark. Overall a good product.

Coupled with Logitech's version 10 of its software, the QuickCam Pro 5000 is an excellent webcam. The angle of view is slightly wider than the earlier QuickCam Pro 4000. However, it is not so wide that you will need to use the digital zoom when you're doing a solo appearance. The image is crisp and sharp, though the newer Logitech UltraVision with its all-glass lens is far sharper - and almost twice as expensive. Logitech has come a long way with its installation and utility software. The installation of version 10 is simple. Load 'n go. The menus have been simplified and the graphics improved. Logitech has truly made webcams accessible to anyone, not just those with technical aptitude and skills. Operation is flawless. Still photographs are of reasonable quality, though nothing you'd want for anything truly important. Movies are fun (and a cool way to amuse a three-year old). The QuickCam Pro 5000 works without a hitch with the latest versions of Skype, AIM, Microsoft LiveMessenger and Yahoo. Overall an excellent value for those who don't want to spend twice as much for the Logitech UltraVision or don't need the quality of the latter's all-glass lens.Jerry

I had a webcam years ago but it became so old I tossed it. I recently bought this one and can't believe the advances. Every person I have chatted with says the picture is crystal clear. The built-in microphone also does a great job of delivering your voice. This camera also tracks your head so moving around a little does not become a problem.I use this on the top of the monitor, with my desktop. I have used it with my laptop and it does a great job of staying balanced on the lip of the monitor.Good job Logitech!

I bought one for me and one for my daughter. This web cam shows a great picture and true color. It compensates for lighting and is easy to set up.The only down side I have found is that we do get feed back on the sound. It could be that the speakers are too close to the camera. I have moved mine away, but my daughter still gets feed back at times. She has speakers attached to the monitor so this makes it hard for her to position the camera away from them. Over all this is a great product and we really love it. It is as close as you can get to being there.

In just a few months I have purchased three of these cameras; the first camera was for ourselves, and then I purchased two more, one for one set of grandparents and another for the other grandma. The main use of this camera is with web conferencing (via Skype). It is a great camera with a little wider angle than most other webcams I have used, so you get to share more of what is happening on your end. The driver/software for the camera (I downloaded the latest version) is very complete and complements the camera nicely to provide echo-free communication as well as automatic color balancing and lighting.One thing I have noticed is that if there is a lot of dark colors in the scene (like if I am wearing a dark shirt), the camera over-compensates and the image is somewhat over-exposed. The opposite is also true... a very light shirt will make the camera under-expose the image. However, I have found that this is not a big issue and I can easily "fix" this by adding some more light or dark objects to the scene if really necessary.In closing, I am really happy with this camera and I have already recommended it to several friends.

This webcam works great with Yahoo Messanger and has all the features of cams twice is price. It was very easy to set up. Most of the time I spent on set up was trying to disable all the firewalls. Getting it to clamp onto laptops and thin monitors is a little difficult. We finally folded a wash cloth to tighten the fit so it didn't slide around.It has a built in microphone so you don't really need the headphones.
