I have had this printer for a year and it has been a year too long. I don't use it all that much, but when I have, I have almost always had issues. My computer either can't find the printer on the network (which ends up freezing my computer in the process), or the printhead needs to be replaced. I have contacted Lexmark about the printhead twice, and they have been very helpful and have replaced them in a timely manner. My third new printhead is now acting up, and I am calling it quits. I went to check to make sure that I have downloaded the most recent firmware and it still didn't work. On top of that, it even has on the support site that this series has had a lot of printhead issues. I am going to try to call Lexmark and return this thing since it hasn't worked in the year that I have had it. I'm going with something else. Anything is better than this.

this is an exellent printer easy to set up. it arrived quickly. and appears so far to be cost effective. the last lexmark lasted 8 years. i expect this one to do the same.

I got a print head error and cleaned the printer as mentioned on the Lexmark website. After several hours I called the Lexmark customer service and they helped me with cleaning process. They also told me that I did not have 5 year warranty as I had not registered the product in 3 months of purchase?? Where is the fairness? My printer is only 8 months old and paid a hefty price just because it said 5 yr warranty but now Lexmark is not honoring. False Claims- do not buy.

This sure is a great printer, especially because of its Smart Solutions features (more on this in a second). The speed and print quality of this printer are better than other printers I have tried recently from HP and Kodak. Photo print quality is quite good. Scan quality is great as well.The printer also looks stylish and professional sitting on a desk, and its big, bright, and colorful touch screen display is attention grabbing. The screen was much larger than I thought it was going to be. I've had people walk in to my office from my living room when they saw the screen turned on just to check out the printer.The truly awesome feature on this printer is called "Smart Solutions". They are downloadable mini-apps that you can customize to fit your needs. Here are a few of the cool apps that I find very useful:- Apps for pre-defining commonly used scanner and copy settings. For example, if you have the need to often create three copies of black and white 2-sided documents, there's an app you can install that will allow you to do this with one click. If you would like a one-click button to scan a document in color to a PDF file to a specific path on your computer, you can do that as well.- An app to automatically scan and e-mail.- An app that scans, automatically (and perfectly!) crops a photo, and saves it to your computer with one-click.- A Google Calendar app that allows you to view your Google Calendar on the printer's screen, change dates, view appointments, and print them with a single-click.- An RSS feed and MSNBC headlines app.- A Google Analyitics app that will display and print statistics from your accounts, including graphs and maps!- Apps to scan to your accounts on websites like Photobucket, Picassa, Flickr, and MobileMe.- Apps to print various forms, cover sheets, and other documents.- And a lot more, many of them highly customizable.This printer is great for any home or small business environment, especially when used often. And the Smart Solutions feature is the coolest new innovation I've ever seen on a printer. This is now my full-time printer and will be for years.

Previously bought a Kodak esp 9 to economize on ink. It locked up and I could not get any repairs to correct it. Saw this Lexmark pro 205 on sale at a great price on Amazon.com and bought it. the Lexmark pro 205 came on time and in good shape and was easy to set up and install and very user friendly. Its been three weeks now and not a glitch. I haven't had an opportunity to compare ink usage, but the interface with software is smooth and it's fairly quiet in operation. I also bought the 100XL black and standard 100 3ink multipack to check the economy of each. I'll let you know how it works out. So far very happy!

At every opportunity, Lexmark endeavors to take another $20 out of your wallet. Want to refill your cartridge? Well, no, you can't, because they have a little chip in the cartridge that won't let you print if you don't change the cartridge frequently enough. Don't use your color cartridges? Well, you still have to buy them. You can't print without the color cartridges, and even if you rarely use the color cartridges and they are full, the little chip counts the number of pages you have printed. When you hit their limit, no printing (even only in B&W) for you.Honestly, if you want to charge more for your products, just do it. Don't pull this bait and switch with your cartridges demanding money every few days.I'll never buy another Lexmark.

I bought this printer for the inexpensive cartridge refills. There is a serious problem with it: every time the printer powers down to conserve energy, it disconnects from the computer. When I try to print, I get a message that "the printer cannot communicate with the computer." I was dismayed to find dozens of complaints about this on-line by people seeking tech support. Troubleshooting requires a whole series of attempts to re-establsh the printer connection, like rebooting, unplugging and replugging the USB cable, unplugging the printer and plugging it back in, and so forth. I have found that rebooting and making sure that that the printer is powered up during the reboot works. Then you have to print before the printer powers down. So I guess someone has to do this every time they want to print. Ridiculous. (I have done everything else too-like make sure there are no firewall issues and re-installed the software and drivers to no avail). I always bought HP's in the past, and never once did this issue ever come up. There is a reason why Lexmark is not a first tier printer choice.

i had a lexmark photo printer that lasted me 10 years. unfortunately it died in december. i typed 'lexmark printer' in amazon's search box and it showed me this one for a ridiculously low price (it has since increased $65)so i bought it. i'm kind of a technotard, but i actually got it all set up, all by myself. I LOVE IT!!! i've tried every feature and i just simply love this machine. i've printed a lot of pics and other things on it and still have about half the ink that i started with. i've read a lot of bad reviews, and i just don't get it cuz i absolutely love mine.

I've never owned anything... anything that has disappointed me more this piece of junk. I also never write reviews but this thing forced me to warn others as it warrants a ZERO, I had to give it a one to register my rating. I am literally throwing this out tomorrow and getting ANYTHING other than a Lexmark.. Slow, unreliable, poor quality, etc. etc. etc.Just terrible!

The 405 is one of the worst printers I have ever user.I am using a MacBookPro with 10.7 over wireless networkstupid things> if in standby the printer is not starting printing. you have to manually turn it on from standby.> after firmware update it basically started consuming more ink than ever> if you are not using it for like 3 months you can kiss the printing heads goodbye and basically dump the whole damn thing (is just what I did)> scanning is a nightmare since the software is not updated to work with 10.7 (and the one that is included is not compatible)> expensive ink even if they mention that is the cheapest on the market. NOT comparing with the number of pages.sorry lexmark . not a chance

I'll make this short, since most of my experience has been well expressed by others.The Pro901 was easy to set up with my wireless network. My XP and Win 7 machines worked well with the software and the printer.Print quality was very good for about 50 pages, although I did notice the print levels going down at an alarming rate. I used the copy and fax functions, which were fine. (Although be aware that ANY incoming call will awaken the printer, which is a poor design.)After about 50 pages, I noticed banding when printing cyan. I tried the various cleaning and aligning options with no improvement. (That really hit the print levels badly. Black was down to about 50%. I can't understand this as I was using the Quick Print setting most of the time.)I chatted with a Lexmark rep who was very responsive. They arranged to send a replacement printhead and new cartridges, which I received overnight. (Great service.)After reading all the bad experiences here, though, I decided to return the printer (while I could) and look for a better choice. I just don't have faith that a new printhead is likely to provide smooth sailing in the future. And even if it would, the ink consumption is unacceptable. (As an aside, you should be aware that the printer will not accept anything other than a Lexmark cartridge. This was introduced in a firmware level recently.)A printer should be reliable out of the box. While Lexmark has great customer service, it should also understand that good service does not take the sting out of bad quality. The best service is no service.

Having had HP printers the last 15 years, I was expecting a pictorial guide to setting up the printer. Lexmark lacked this. I hoped there might be something useful on the installation media. Unfortunately, the DVD wasn't recognized by my MacBook Pro, nor would it eject. At this point, I set up the printer using my inner-Jedi.Connection to the wireless hub was painless. During the printer's 25-minute initialization, it decided the cartridges were misaligned. There aren't many ways you can mess this up without breaking something, but to humor it, I removed and reseated everything. Same result. The online documentation didn't offer any next steps, and technical support was unavailable on the weekends. With no other recourse until Monday morning, I played with different menu options, finally having success with "Print head clean." (Considering this was a new printer - this was weird.)With the printer set up, I downloaded the Mac printer driver from Lexmark's web site. It installed flawlessly. The first printout looked great, scans were okay. I rebooted my Mac to get the driver disc out of the machine so I could use it on my kids' Vista desktop. Vista installation was also painless. The driver indicated the printer detected newer firmware available and would download and install it directly - this was pretty cool.I count myself lucky not to have the print head problems others have reported. For that reason, I've been leery of buying cartridges in bulk for fear of being Epsoned - printer breaks, cartridges are incompatible iwth any current printer.Pluses:* Works with the Mac.* Wireless was easy to set up.* No craplets (google "theoatmeal printers") bundled with the drivers.* The printer goes into sleep mode after ~10 minutes of inactivity.* Relatively quiet printing. Quiet when in sleep mode (this was a serious shortcoming of the HP 8500).Update: * Black cartridges run ~5 at Amazon.com (and prime), you can print up to 500 sheets with them.Minuses:Update [July 2011]: * Touch-based interface gets Zombified after a month and needs a power cycle.Update [July 2011]: * Cyan ink consumption is 2.5x as much as other colors. I have theories, but no explanation.Update [October 2011]: * It can be very finicky with cartridges. I bought a set online and had problems with the ... cyan (shakes fist). After being on the phone for an hour with Lexmark's technical support - who was patient as I disassembled everything that could be - they sent me a new cyan that worked fine.Update [March 2012]: Since updating to Lion, I've had a recurring problem where the print driver loses connection with the printer reporting "Unable to write print data: Broken pipe". A workaround is to start the Lexmark scan document tool, which doesn't have this problem, and once it reestablishes connection (via sample scan), it prints okay for a while.Bottom line: a serious competitor for HP with low ink costs and a five-year warranty.Update [March 2012]: I am not so sure that I can expect five years of printing. It appears the print head is about sixty bucks on Amazon, which then starts to suggest considering a new printer...

Update:Lexmark is getting out of the inkjet biz.Now if only HP would do us the same favor.I didn't think anybody could create a product that has worse service or reliability than HP inkjets,but lo and behold,Lexmark has set the new standard for bad!Everybody who bought this printer got suckered by it's so reliable ,we'll give you a FIVE year warranty.A no brainer,right?Bad print-head after 2 or 3 months and now communications issues over wired Ethernet.My customer had another Pro series printer that constantly had paper jams and between the two of them are ready for the circular file container.I now am on hold with them and the wait looks to be about 20 minutes.These are the last of the Lexmark's my customer will own.Brothers are far superior in every facet of reliability.You know these are POS ,when you see issues after issue prominently displayed on the support web page.

Overall, I have no complaints about the operation of this printer; however, my complaint lies with the ink cartridges, and its a dealbeaker. Lexmark's design of a printer that won't print in B&W from a full Black cartridge when one of the Color cartridges is low is robbery, and the cartridge cost vs pages printed per cartridge is poor. Then, throw in the fact that the scanner function is lost once one of the ink cartridges is low/empty, and the machine becomes a $150 paperweight. When filled with $60 worth of ink, other that occasional wireless disconnects, I had no complaints with the printer. I just can't afford to feed the beast anymore. I'll be looking for another printer this week, but it won't be a Lexmark.

After some deliberation between the canon photo printers and this lexmark 901, I finally made up my mind to go with this printer. So far, after having spent only an hour or so with this printer, I am quite happy.I needed a printing solution that would allow me go wireless and print/scan with good quality. The lexmark satisfies my requirements nicely.Setup: Fairly simple to unpack, install the printer head and cartridges, connect to the wireless network and all with very easy to follow steps on the computer and also the printer screen.The best part was the WPS push-button setup feature on the printer.A word of caution, if you are going the wireless route, is that you have to follow the setup instructions on your computer so as to allow the printer to talk to your computer. This is needed when you want to scan from the printer to the computer. I might have messed-up by not following the instructions to the dot, but still wasn't a big deal.Oh, I forgot to mention, you don't need the usb cable even for wireless setup.Printing: b/w text is nice and crisp. I printed a color photo on a regular paper and the result was quite good. I am quite sure if I use a nice photo/glossy paper, the result would be much more better.Scanning: I scanned a few documents from the printer and was able to send it to my computer as a photoshop and preview document. There are a couple more document types that you can select. Having so many options is such a nice feature. Scan quality was satisfactory, since a few pages from the Time magazine that I scanned had pixelation around gradient shades.Printer screen: Nice touchscreen and easy to use.Except for the scan quality of color pages, maybe I am too fussy, overall a good buy.

This printer replaced a 5-year-old Lexmark C534 which was simply not worth throwing money at anymore, as replacement toner was unbelievably expensive. This printer uses a different type of toner cartridge which is far cheaper to produce, and therefore will always cost less compared to the old printer. This is still a color laser printer however, which will always cost more then any inkjet printer. For my small business purposes, the increased cost to inkjet is more then justified.Print quality after approximately 2000 pages printed is still as good as it ever was. Text is razor sharp and colors are quite bright and vivid. I occasionally print high quality logos and designs onto presentation paper, and the results have always exceeded my expectations.

I, like many others here, was initially impressed by the features and low ink cost of this printer. Having now owned and used two of these printers for over a year, I feel compelled to warn others of my experiences. To be fair, I do like this printer's looks and I've never had any serious issues with the wireless connection. Those are where the redeeming qualities end, so on to the negative. My main complaint is that this is by far the most I have ever paid for a printer and it by far has the worst print quality on either black ink, color ink, photo, or text. I bought it for my small business, and yet have not once felt like I could use any of the documents it prints for any kind of professional presentation. The lines will be blurred and cutoff, or the pictures blotchy, or it will ruin the document entirely so I have to reprint it, even with high quality printing settings and high grade paper. Also, scanned documents used to look fine, but now they all have a line running down the center left side. I wish I could just write this off to a lemon, but due to various unresolved problems with my first printer, this is my second one! So I have now owned 2 of these and each one had unforgivable, low printing quality. The longer I own it, the more I hate it. Never again Lexmark.

At first this printer seemed great with the wifi printing being a nice feature I had wanted, but after a short time the ink in the cartridges dried out and although the printer and computer thought there was ink it wouldn't print. Then the printer started malfunctioning in in terms of it's software and function. I've owed plenty of printers prior to this one and I either got a lemon or this printer just sucks. I tried restarting it several times and changed the ink cartridges, but now it will only print black (and poorly at that) even though it recognizes that it has all the colors when queried. I've tried cleaning the ink heads, but to no avail. Unfortunately for me I've waited too long to do anything about this and the warranty has expired, but I'd never buy this printer again. BUYER BEWARE!

My 205 has been an absolute bust...from the start the print quality has been awful, and I've had to do many, many 'deep cleans' to try to correct the problem; this laid waste to the ink cartridges. This printer seems to gorge on ink. I got in touch with Lexmark (their tech support seems very solid) regarding the print problem and they decided that the printhead was defective - they will send a new one with a new set of ink cartridges. Hopefully that'll do the trick. There is also something funky in the way it grabs and shoots the paper out, as it always leave a small crease in the top of every page. On a good note the wireless printing is a great feature, and the machine itself is quite easy to use with intuitive menus. The good points will be even better if I can get this machine to work properly.I bought this after hearing that Lexmark got its act together and overhauled their products. All in all I'm regretting this purchase.*update* This printer indeed turned out to be a piece of junk. Lexmark sent me a new printhead but that brought no improvement. They sent me a new replacement printer, and the new one was even worse that the first. I printed a grand total of around 35 sheets of paper, and it jammed over 1/3 of the pages...it didn't just jam the sheets: it annihilated them. And the neat control pad on the front of the machine got stuck in the up position the 1st time I moved it...and it refuses to move back. So Lexmark will either refund me (they are loath to do so and say it will take 2 months) or they will send me a new upgrade printer...it would be awesome if Lexmark would just build a decent product the 1st time so we wouldn't have to go through this waste and drama. Every single Lexmark printer I've had - 3 of them - have all been crap. Why will the next one be different?*another update* Well, my 3rd PRO205 really isn't that different. Even after many, many firmware updates this thing burns through ink like no printer I've ever seen. The print heads tend to clog a lot as well, leading to blank/semi-blank print outs. Cleaning the print head just blows out what ink you have left, and new print cartridges are not cheap. I'm just astounded by how many times I've replaced the cartridges with so little printed material to show for it. As it did on my 2nd printer, the control pad has ended up jammed in the 'up' position...now how on earth did that happen? I've moved it only 2 or 3 times in its whole life!I do like several features of this unit - wireless printing, scan/copy functions to name a few. But the frustrations that come with it aren't worth it. I'm done...No more Lexmark for me!

Since some reviews of this printer have been exceedingly technical, I will not attempt to add to that aspect of the product's reviews. Rather, my focus is on what I consider to be great about the machine, and what has not worked as well. For the past decade, I have been an HP printer user for both personal and home office use, and was fairly pleased with HP functionality, reliability, and service. However, our HP printers were always difficult to set up with our Mac computers, sometimes taking hours to download appropriate software. We have connected the Lexmark to two different Macs of very different ages, and both installations, except the wireless connection, have gone smoothly and seamlessly. Our HP all-in-ones were prone to paper jams that were difficult to clear. This printer has no such problem. The Lexmark offers all of the functionality of our best HP all-in-one, plus the promise of wireless connection, and has aspects that are energy saving and easy to use, as well. I am most pleased with the quality of the printed product -- black on white is sharp and clear, extremely crisp, and color reproduction is the best I've seen in an inkjet printer. I'm very pleased that this printer has four cartridges, one each for CMYK -- much less expensive than the multi-color HP ink cartridge. I love the ease of use in the double-sided copy function. My HP supposedly had a double-sided feature, but it required removing the copies and flipping them over. The Lexmark simply requires that the setting be adjusted. Be careful, however, to re-set if you don 't want double-sided copies, because the setting stays for all functions, including incoming faxes. The fax feature is absolutely seamless, has multiple settings, and faxes come in as sharp and clear as copied and printed pages -- unless the original is bad, of course. Scanning quality is also very high -- this is very useful since I'm involved in a project to scan in hundreds of old photos, and the high quality of the scan makes this job a pleasure. I don't have a need for OCR right now, so haven't used it. The Eco Mode allows for a variety of settings, and I really appreciate that the machine goes into sleep mode when it isn't in use. Because we have Verizon and use ring discrimination for the fax number, the printer "wakes up" whenever the phone rings, which is a minor flaw. I have found every aspect of the printer to be intuitive and user-friendly, except the wireless function. I have an in-house techie who has tried numerous times to set up the wireless function on the printer. Tech support has always been nice and helpful, but no fix has worked as yet. Since we have several printers, one for each computer, this is not a critical function for us, so for the time being I'm giving up rather than continue to spend time on solving the problem. Perhaps when my projects are done I can revisit, but for now, I am exceedingly pleased with the high level of functionality, economy, and performance with the Lexmark Prospect Pro 205 all-in-one.

This printer has great quality and would be fine for printing occasionally at home. We bought it to replace a Zerox Phaser we had issues with and discovered that although the print quality is great, the printer is simply too slow to keep up with our small 2 person office. Double-sided printing is particularly slow. Also, it seems to run through ink very quickly. We have already gone through TONS of ink cartridges. Only had it for a few months and my boss has instructed me to start looking for a new one again.

Hello everybodyThe printer was ok in the beginning. But after some time:- wifi was not working any more -> only usb was working.- Printing black when the color cartridge is empty is not possible. After buying new color cartridge, color was going down very fast (in a month, half out) without printing in color.- And today black is not working any more (no its not because I don't use the printer for a long time and yes I did several print clean procedures)Once I was going to scan some pages : blocked in autotray -> original music score creased.O, I forgot to mention the startup time with al does updates ...Conclusion : my lexmark in trash.

This is the worst printer I have ever used in over 30 years of computer use. The wireless connection is terrible. For several months it worked fine. Then, it would not connect through the wireless. I discovered that when it goes into sleep mode it will no longer wake when it is sent print commands. The only way to get it to print is to go to it, shut it down, and restart it. And now half the time it won't even connect when it is connected to a computer with a USB cable. Add to that the fact that it is cheaply made--this morning a plastic piece broke off. Perhaps it broke from the stress of not being used because it never connects when I try to print. I would never buy anything from Lexmark again.
