Bluetooth 4.

First off let me say that the build quality of the ERA is fantastic for how lightweight it is. I bought this unit as well as he blueant q2 with the intention of returning the loser. The ERA is a great piece of hardware but Jawbone really needs to step it up with their mytalk software to give users more control to unlock the potential for this headset.JAWBONE ERAFirst the bad:1. Accelerometer; For now its just a gimmick. I mean really, why are there 3 ways to answer the phone, shake shake, tap tap, button on the back of the ERA. that is just a waste and with proper software users would be able to specify their preference for answering which leaves other options open for more functions. also tap tap is ONLY for answering and hanging up which is a waste of a feature when not receiving or on a call, for example when listening to music or podcasts taptap does nothing when it should pause/play. with a simple update the uses of taptap could be expanded. shake shake is useless because unless you want to give yourself a headache and look very weird you will not be shaking this thing while on its your head, Its cool for pairing but thats it.2. NO MUTE; neither the blueant or the jawbone has a mute button which I find unacceptable when working from home. being able to mute while; talking to your kids, bathroom, dogs start barking, etc jawbone should let you customize the button functions (I personally would use the button to answer hangup and taptap to mute/unmute when on a call.3. My Talk; being able to change the voice in your ear is a great feature however I found that was the only good thing about mytalk. there are apps available but you can only run one app at a time and it requires you to give up voice dialing. Why voice dialing is an app when all it does is activate voice control on your phone is beyond me. a better function would be to use the button and then tell it the name of the app you want it to load so you can have voice dial and the apps to read and send text/emails at the same time. Mytalk does not provide the custom-ability the ERA deserves and the forums are full of requests that seem to fall on deaf ears.4. Caller ID; The ERA does do caller ID by name but is limited to 20 names and must be setup manually. While this should work for most blutant's Q2 downloads your contact list automatically and can do up to 2000 contacts vs ERA's 20.THE GOOD:1. Noise cancellation; Noise Assassin is by far the best compared to plantronics 975 and the Q2, during testing I was able to hold a conversation on the freeway @ 70 with windows down, AC on and Radio at a medium level. I was told it was crystal clear when i wasn't talking and when I did talk they could hear a little buzz in the background but my voice was clear and no distorted. The Q2 failed to even maintain its connection to my phone when the windows were rolled down at 70mph incoming and outgoing would instantly cut out. even at lower speeds the blueant Q2 could not match the noise cancellation of the ERA.2. Speaker; the speaker on the ERA is very nice, especially after tuning it to your liking with the volume control. It does not get as loud as the blueant's for conversations but it has a much better sound and wider range for music and podcasts. the only drawback is you cannot have volume control and noise assassin control active at the same time, its one or the other but who would actually want to turn noise assassin off?3. Quality; quality feel very good on the ERA compared to the blueant, ive read many complaints about the mesh wind guard of the blueant coming unglued after a while or anytime its left in the car on a hot day.4. FIT; the ERA comes with more ear options to find the perfect fit and for me at least the ERA felt more secure in my ear than the blueant but I did not have comfort issues with either I did prefer the solid feel of the ERA when it was in my ear.5. connection; the ERA had a slightly longer range than the Blueant before distorting and did not unpair form the device as easily as the blueant2Conclusion:Both the ERA and the Blueant are great headset and I would recommend both depending on the situation they will be used in. For quiet environments the blueant excells with great call quality for office settings. If however you are a field tech or require noise cancellation that actually works the Jawbone is your only option. the era could also be improved 100% with some firmware updates to add features like pause/play and mute features as well as the ability to load more than one app at a time. I give the Jawbone 3 stars. minus 1 star because other than noise cancellation there isn't much to set this apart from other headsets, and if you dont need noise cancellation there are better options. minus 1 more star for jawbones lacking software which keeps this unit from having very important features like mute. Jawbone seems to like to push new products for you to spend money on (ICON HD) instead of updating and improving on their existing pr

I gave this 1 star because of the way Jawbone dealt with a warranty issue otherwise I would have given it a 3 star. The reason for the 3 star is a combination of expectations about voice quality and noise cancellation and a comparison of how it performed relative to a Plantronics Discovery 925 that this replaced. The voice quality and the noise cancellation didn't live up to the expectations I got reading other reviews. The hands free system in my 2011 Hyundai Sonota and my iPhone 4 standard microphone both sounded better than the Jawbone. The noise cancellation on the car and the iPhone were both better than the Jawbone ERA. I expected the ERA to sound better than the car. The noise cancellation was acceptable, but as a test I called my wife from the car with the windows down and the radio on at a normal volume and she had a difficult time hearing me. I had to turn the radio way down and roll up the windows for her to hear me clearly. The ERA didn't fit nearly as well as the Discovery 925. I could put the 925 on and keep it on for hours without having to mess with it. I had to regularly adjust the fit of the ERA.The ERA did have great sound quality. It was better than any bluetooth headset I've ever used. The only complaint there was that it wouldn't go loud enough for me to use it while mowing the lawn. I had to switch to the Apple headphones. However, all things considered, I don't think it's reasonable to expect that much volume from the ERA.The problem I had was the headset would have frequent intermittent connection problems with my iPhone 4, even to the point of completely losing the connection. I'm not sure why, but the problem was worse when listening to the iPod app or streaming audio than it was with phone conversations, but it happened with all of them. I called Jawbone tech support, and I was very pleased with the quality of the troubleshooting. We reset the ERA several times and tried it with an iPhone 3GS. The problems persisted and the tech concluded the ERA was the problem and sent me an email to request an RMA. I sent in the receipt from Amazon and got the following response."Thank you for contacting Jawbone. You've recently requested and RMA for replacing an ERA, at this time we would like to inform you that Jawbone warrants the original retail purchaser ("Consumer"), for a period of one (1) year from date of original purchase. The limited warranty extends only to the "Consumer" and is not assignable or transferable to any subsequent purchaser or user. We recommend contacting Amazon for any claims on the ERA you've purchased. To view our complete list of products and retail prices please follow the link: [...]For a list of our retail partners in the US, please follow the link [...]We appreciate your interest in Jawbone products and we want you to enjoy the best headset out on the market, that's why for one time only, we're offering you a 30 day special offer to purchase a NEW ERA at a 25% discount price at Jawbone.com with one year limited warranty. All you have to do is reply to this email letting us know that you accept the offer so that we may create an RMA so that we can receive your non functioning ERA .Once in our warehouse, we'll send you a discount code, after that, simply go to our site, select the color you like and click check out, once in the cart, enter your code and click apply, the discount will be deducted from the total and you can proceed to complete your check out."According to Jawbone, I was not the original retail purchaser despite the fact the unit I purchased not advertised as used or refurbished and was shipped to me in a factory sealed retail package. The seller was Crystal Trading and Amazon did the fulfillment, but neither are on the retail partner link they sent me, so this was probably sold by an unauthorized dealer. However, considering that Amazon is the worlds largest online retailer, I would expect Jawbone to make sure it wasn't sold there if either was an unauthorized dealer. Since they have not done that, my expectation is that they honor their warranty. Since they chose not to honor their warranty, I think it only fair that other potential buyers know up front that if they purchase their Jawbone ERA from Amazon, the warranty will not be honored.

The Jawbone Era is well-named: being one of the first Bluetooth headsets to have the ability to have software loaded onto it, it marks the beginning of a new era of 'smart' devices. I use the Era with my Samsung Captivate (a.k.a. "Galaxy S") and I have found it to be an excellent headset overall. The Era is light. It comes with just about every possible kind of attachment you could imagine. The packaging is really pretty slick: with the Era in a clear window sitting on a stem, the body of the box then folds out to reveal a book, a bunch of different attachments, the charger, and each part carefully labeled for you. You can use the Era with either the over-the-ear hook (okay, "binaural loop" according to the manual) or the rubber ear-plug (the "spout connector"). It didn't make sense to me at first, but with some trying it became obvious that the loop on the end of the plug can be tucked into the fold of cartilage at the edge of your ear canal. This makes a nice alternative to the ear-hook for several reasons:-You can still wear glasses without tangling in the hook-You can switch from left to right ear without having to adjust anything-With the right size plug for your ear, the headset won't fall out any easier than it would with an ear-hook-The shape of these plugs funnels sound straight into your ear canalThe inner surface of the Era has a tiny power switch to turn it on or off. It may not be as slick as my Motorola, which used the foldout mic to turn on and off...but that's because there is no foldout mic on the Era: it's all one tiny unit with no other moving parts. I have accidentally left it on a time or two and killed the battery, so this is something that needs watching--a tiny power light will also clue you in, as well as change color based on battery status, pairing mode, etc. Some people have complained that the power switch is hard to flip, but I haven't had this problem despite having somewhat largish hands. There's also a nub on the inner surface that's designed to rest against your cheek. It doesn't poke me annoyingly; in fact, it's hard to notice at all once you put the unit on. This is the Voice Activity Sensor, and when the pointed at a good angle helps the Jawbone to detect and filter your voice against outside noise--the other Jawbone products apparently pioneered this technology, and the quality of sound in the Era is very good. The back of the unit has a mini-USB connector for the charger. My only complaint here is that the plug sits at an angle, and it takes some getting used to, pushing in the charging connector at an angle to make a proper fit. Some customers don't care for the fact that the charger cable is only a few inches long, but I find that useful because it makes the charger a lot easier to tuck into a pocket or laptop case. The charger cable connects to the power adapter using a standard USB port, so this situation is easily remedied by using a longer USB-to-mini cable. One useful feature of the Jawbone is that when you turn it on, it makes a sound to indicate it is powered up...and then tells you in a clear voice about how much talk time you have remaining on a charge. This voice will pop up again if the battery gets low while on standby, but won't interrupt a conversation if you're talking and the battery starts to die. Getting the Jawbone to connect really is as simple as a couple of flicks of the wrist (with the Jawbone held horizontally between thumb and forefinger); pairing mode is activated with four vertical shakes (hold the Era upright). Answering an incoming call is as simple as tapping the button on the back end of the unit (near the charging connector).Calls on the Era are extremely clear, and this is where it wins above the other headsets I've used. I can step into the wind or walk through a crowd and still carry on a conversation. I try to find isolated spots to place a phone call, but I've noticed people have an annoying unconscious habit of walking close to me while talking loudly even when I'm out of the way in a corner somewhere. My voice comes through just fine on the other end, anyway--I don't get asked to repeat anything. I've tried to deliberately feed wind directly into the mic, but even this is tricky to do because the microphones are extremely tiny. They sit on one side of the unit, so typically noise cancellation works better in the right ear because this places them on the underside of the unit. I had a call the other day where I was able to get wind blowing in--it was certainly noisy for me, but the person I was talking to said nothing about it and was still able to hear me. I've also streamed music off my phone into the headset, but I'm a bit skeptical about the "HD Quality Audio" label--one tiny speaker playing stereo music isn't really going to be able to be measured as to whether it's "HD Quality"--the music I'm playing doesn't really sound any better or worse than it does on my Motorola Rokr S-9 headphones, except that

First let me preface this review by disclosing that when it comes to Bluetooth headsets, I am only considering the best quality and performance at any price. I am on the road a lot and make many business calls on the road. My judgement is based on incoming voice quality (how well I can hear), outgoing voice quality (how well others can hear me), noise cancellation quality, and build quality.Incoming Voice QualityBose > Plantronics > JawboneCompared to the Bose and Plantronics, the Jawbone ERA has the worst incoming voice quality. Incoming voice quality is still better than the average headset out there and unless you are very sensitive to this aspect, the three headsets are very close. The Jawbone is a bit quiet and the voices sound hollow.Outgoing Voice QualityBose > Plantronics > JawboneThe Jawbone is also the worst in the outgoing voice quality and this time it loses by a wide margin. If the headset is firmly touching your cheek, your voice will have a slight robotic tinge to it. Switching from Bluetooth the my phone's ear piece, the voice improvement is dramatic. However, if the headset is not touching your cheek, your voice will sound choppy, cutting in and out as if you have poor cellular reception. This happens quite often as the headset becomes unseated quite easily in my ear and also my wife's ear. This is probably the biggest drawback and the reason why I rated this product as 3 stars.Noise CancellationJawbone > Bose = PlantronicsThe Jawbone really shines in this category. All three headsets will completely eliminate road noise while driving. But the Jawbone will cut out most other noise, and when it cannot (such as screaming children in the background), the speaker's voice is still much louder than the other noises. The Jawbone somehow knows it's your voice and all other noises are suppressed or come through at a lower volume. Also, if you are not speaking, no noise in the background makes it through to the other side. Well done in this category.Build QualityJawbone > Bose > PlantronicsThe Jawbone has a little switch to turn the device on and off and it is very solid, almost too solid. The single button on the back does not wiggle at all either. And the tap-tap function to answer calls means that there are essentially no moving parts when answering or hanging up calls. The ERA feels very solid and has a high quality feel to it. The Bose is good, but the power switch seems like it can break or fall off at any moment. I've gone through two Plantroics, and the Voyager just has too many moving parts that increase the likelihood of something breaking. The Jawbone also has software that you can update and you can download different voice accents for the menu / alerts. This is a nice feature and I did use it to turn off the A2DP function since it was not playing nicely with my phone.Overall I still recommend this product, but the outgoing voice quality is so terrible, that I do not use it as my daily headset anymore.

I've been searching far and wide for a replacement for the venerable Plantronics Voyager 510. Plantronics has discontinued the 510 and supplanted it with the Voyager Pro, which is actually inferior to the 510 in many ways.I've run across nearly every problem you can imagine while trying to find a headset that's secure and comfortable to wear for long periods of time, has good audio send quality with natural sounding noise reduction, has crisp receive audio, and good battery life.Having tried previous Jawbone products without much success (especially in the fitment area), I reluctantly tried the ERA, seeing that it had some additional fitment options.I've been extremely pleased with the headset. It comes with four silicon ear loop gels that retain the headset in your ear with a D-shaped loop integrated into the gel. It also has four simple torus (donut) shaped gels that are intended to be used with an add-on ear-loop. The large number of options makes it possible to find a gel that fits your ear almost perfectly- not loose, nor with undue pressure or chafing. Not only do the gels fit well and block much ambient noise (extremely important in noisy environments, with the benefit of letting you run the headset at a lower volume than would be otherwise possible), the gels with the integrated loop also feature a small funnel that directs the sound into your ear for even better quality. The audio receive quality is surprisingly good, and is well balanced, without the boominess (excessive bass) present in many recent headsets. The sound is a little thin and tinny sounding when listening to music via the A2DP connection, but I consider that to be a side benefit; normal call quality is what I'm primarily concerned with. The headset has self-adapting volume which I've found to work very well; it can be fine tuned with the phone volume buttons, or the call-control button on the phone- unfortunately the one-button implementation on the headset ramps the volume up and down and is slow and cumbersome to use.Send audio is also very good. Wind noise can be a bit of a problem, but it doesn't keep your voice from being heard clearly. Even in very noisy environments or in a loud automobile at freeway speeds, the performance is excellent. Don't even think about turning NoiseAssassin off in noisy environments, as your outgoing audio will become nearly unintelligible. I am able to utilize voice dialing on my Blackberry 9700 in all conditions with almost perfect accuracy- something no headset has been able to do for me before.Operationally, the ERA is adequate, but not stellar. There is no mute function (a huge omission), and some other features common to Plantronics and others are missing- for example, the ability to transfer a call to or from the headset while in the call. I find the "shake-shake" "gesture" to answer a call (using the integrated accelerometer) completely useless. The "tap-tap" gesture to answer or end a call is quite convenient, but would be even nicer if it would allow spoken audio commands for answering a call (completely hands-free). The headset has a nice dedicated power button, although it puts itself to sleep after some period of non-use and wakes itself up (by the accelerometer) when picked up and automaticallly announces its battery level - very nice!Jawbone's "Mytalk" site allows you to update the firmware on your device and do things such as load different voice profiles, add voice caller ID for up to 10 numbers, add "Dial apps" that change the functionality of the call control button, and change certain other headset options.Jawbone also has a neat little Blackberry (and iPhone) app to monitor your battery life on the phone. I find that it gets confused once in a while when the headset is charged and the app has to be restarted, and since the headset will announce its charge with a simple press of the call control button while paired with the phone but not in a call, I don't find the app to be really necessary, but it's a nice touch.I think it looks a bit funny with the patterened metal screen- I'm not worried about looks after wearing the overgrown hearing aid of a Plantronics 510 for years, but I've been getting a lot of compliments on its looks, so I guess it's cool or fashionable looking to a lot of folks. After about 50 hours of talk time, I'm able to rate this headset a full 5 stars for comfort, inbound and outbound call quality, and reliability. I'm able to overlook its minor shortcomings- but I sure wish Aliph/Jawbone would add Mute!

Although the Jawbone ERA came in "retail packaging", this headset appears to have been used, returned with a little earwax on it, and put back in the retail packaging with a little tape to hold it together for resale. After a little clean-up, I still can't get the crud out of the flashing LED ring indicator, so it still looks a little gross, but I'm sure it would have looked this way after a couple days of use anyway, so I got over it. Another indication that the product was used was the fact that the manual says it should have plenty of charge to get going, but mine died before I could complete the pairing process. After a charge and another failed attempt at pairing with my Android phone, I restarted my phone and everything worked great, so no fault of the Jawbone. If you're having trouble pairing, don't get discouraged right away! With the other reviews it appears there is no warranty with this seller, so you might as well keep at it.After getting my ERA working, I was surprised at the sound quality when talking to someone on another phone. It's as good as holding the phone to my face, and the caller on the other end was able to hear me fine. I do have one person who can't understand me when he calls and I used this earpiece, so there must be some difference, but this it the only person I have trouble with. I like the tap and shake accelerometer actuation features, and they work well. I use this just for long conversations while driving where it would be a pain to hold up the phone the whole time, so I haven't taxed the battery, but it hasn't died on me yet. I do have trouble with the supplied earpieces not keeping it in my ear, but I'm not willing to go buy the recommended Jabra EarGels to correct the problem because I don't use it frequently enough to bother. The charging cord supplied is literally 2" long which is strange, but it does charge and the earpiece is light enough that it can hang from the mini-USB connector without falling off, so it works. The seller doesn't specifically claim that the product is new, but they sure aren't forthcoming with that information, so I'm taking away 1 star for that reason alone. Other than that, this thing works great. 4 stars.

I am a daily Bluetooth user. I pair with an iPhone 4s. The reason I bought this product was because of a strange screeching sound that some folks would tell me they heard when I was speaking with them but I couldn't hear. I wrongly blamed my Jawbone Era. Now I have two blue tooth devices and use them both on a daily basis. Here are my thoughts:-Battery: the Jawbone wins hands down. It feels like it might even be twice as long a battery life-Battery warning: the Jawbone gives you 15 minutes warning and then another warning before it dies on you. Bose has very little warning and it is obnoxious when you hear the tones.-Battery meter: Jawbone actually tells you how many hours/minutes of talk time you have remaining. Bose you have no idea. Even though I read about this problem I unfortunately ignored other reviews. I would must rather have two Jawbone Eras than the Bose just for this feature alone.-Comfort: Very similar. I would give the Bose a 3 and the Jawbone a 4 on a scale of 5. Either one gets a little annoying after an hour or so of use. But I suppose this is true for any blue tooth headset.-On/Off Switch: Bose's switch is confusing as to whether it is one or off and it is very easy to switch off by accident. The Era's switch is very clear and the switch is more solid and will not switch off accidentally.-Sound quality: I feel like they are the same. I think if I walked up and down busy streets on a regular basis in Chicago or something the Bose would be worth considering because of their noise recognition software feature but it doesn't seem to affect my home office or driving experience.-Special features: I am more used to the Jawbone Era but I definitely like the innovations they put into their headset over the Bose headset.-Price: Jawbone wins againAt this point, if both my headsets are charged and ready to go I grab the Jawbone every time. Hope this helps in your decision.

I was looking for a cordless headset after a new job that required me to spend 1-1.5 hrs driving to/from work every day. I needed a high-quality headset since I had to attend work-related conference calls, and I didn't want to sound unprofessional. The last bluetooth headset I had was literally from >5 years ago, so I came with low expectation. However, this bluetooth significantly exceeded my expectation due to its great call quality, simplicity, and relatively long battery life. This is probably a repeat of what a lot of other reviewers have mentioned here, but here's my take.Likes:- Great, great call quality, never had any complaints, even comments from folks I had conversation with.- It's very simple to use with not a lot of buttons (in fact, only 1 button + 1 on/off switch).- Micro USB charger doesn't require me to bring extra charger (my phone also uses micro USB).- Relatively long battery life - in my case, a full charge holds >4 hrs conversation, and it's pretty quick too to charge it.Other considerations:- Not quite a dislike, but it's a bit pricey. I guess you get what you pay for :).- Sometimes (like 1 in 10 times) the headset doesn't seem to pair, even though the phone claimed it did (i.e. person on the phone can't hear me and I can't hear them since the phone already assumes the headset takes over, while the headset has not). A simple reset (turn it off then on) fixed this. Just a small annoyance, but not a deal breaker.- One time it stopped working altogether (i.e. didn't turn on properly, couldn't be found, paired, etc). I panicked and went to their website. There was a software update that I could do from their website, so I thought I'd try it out. It fixed the problem, and the headset has been working fine since. In summary, this is a great headset I would recommend to everyone.Good luck with your research and purchase!

***************************************** AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID***************************************************Ok, SO I MUST NOT BE THE SMARTEST BEAR IN THE WOODS. I bought this off Amazon, not a retail seller, for $79.99, that clearly had a description that said "RETAIL PACKAGING", which according to Amazon's FAQ page means --"it comes in the same packing as would be seen at a retail store". Further down the page is describes "BULK PACKAGING" as items, and accessories are packaged together in non-retail packaging, which is short for "REFURB/USED/RETURNED". So I was surprised when I opened my new Jawbone Era box (which did arrive in 2-days) to find 5 tiny ziplock plastic baggies with all the accessories , instructions, headset, and charger. The accessories look used, the instructions and carrying case looked new, and the headset and EAR WAX on the ear piece. Are you F'NG kidding me. What kind of an outfit is Amazon running. I plugged in my headset to the computer, and couldn't get the micro-USB to connect to the headset. Upon further inspection I found the area around the charging port was badly scratched, another sure sign of a used item. I found the connector pin was slightly bent down inside the headset so I used a flat knife to gently bend it back so I could plug in the headset and look for s/w updates. Guess what------The headset was already paired with "Michael's" IPHONE---I'm not Michael. I called Amazon the next day and they were prompt about sending me a return label, but it's now taking time out of my day to return it. What a bummer.. When I pressed Amazon about who actually fulfilled the order, they kept telling me it was sent from their warehouse, and when I finally got a supervisor on the phone, and after about 20min of digging, he did finally say it was fulfilled from one of their "trusted" sources, and guess who 3rd party RETAILER IS : 11th STREET WIRELESS. THe sham rip-off artist out of New York city that sells broken, used, refurbished, returned and plenty of "deals that fell off the back of the truck" and tries to pass it off as "new" merchandise. Shame on AMAZON for doing business with crooks.***************************************** AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID***************************************************

So I have a basic Uniden blue tooth that was about $15. It fit fine and it is good enough for basic calls at home. The sound quality is pretty scratchy and I've had people say it's hard to hear me sometimes. Also, I wanted a headset that I could use just for music and videos as much as for calling purposes. For music and vids, the Uniden is a no go. It sounds like it is coming in over a CB radio or a walkee talkee. So it's fine for calls but nothing more advanced than that.I wanted to upgrade. There was a gold box deal a few days ago and I decided to try it. Very first thing I noticed is that the sound quality is excellent for my music, almost as good as actual headphones. I'd rate it a 5/5 in that regard, honestly. I also like the sleek look of it and I like the dark black color because I have dark brown almost black hair and really you can't even tell I'm wearing it unless you are paying really close attention. It connected to my phone with no problem at all.But besides the sound quality, this thing was a complete bust for me. I literally spent two hours today, if not longer, trying to get this thing to fit my ears. I tried every single combination of earpieces and ear buds to make this darn thing work. I even went on the website and tried to find tips on there and in other reviews. NOTHING worked. My ear got sore from me trying it on so often. I'm over it. I'm not wasting any more of my time on this. Not only that, but the earpieces are extremely hard to take on and off. I worried about breaking the piece off. The little plastic piece that you can put over your ear is so generic that I don't know how I didn't break it off. The one on the Uniden was better quality and it is only 1/4 the price I paid for this one. It's also pretty generically made for the price you pay for it. I'm thinking it's worth closer to $30 than $60+.This is honestly one of the most disappointing items I ever bought and I have placed over 1500 orders. I really expected it to be an awesome blue tooth based on the name and all the other reviews. However, I would never buy another blue tooth off the Jawbone brand. Just terrible experience overall for me.Obviously I'm in the minority here but that is my honest opinion. I will return it tomorrow.

I received my Jawbone ERA, in the original, new sealed packaging. And the first use the person on the other end told me they were having a hard time hearing me. Several test calls later I found that if the Noise Assassin technology was enabled people could either not hear me at all or my voice was a faint whisper to them. Sound on my end was great. However, if I turned off the Noise Assassin, the other end could hear me fine, of course, with all the background noise. So, I contacted Jawbone support and after several attempts at resetting and re-pairing the Jawbone with my phone they determined the unit was defective. But, and began to process an RMA, until I provided my Amazon receipt, at which point they said that since the seller was 11th Street Wireless I was not the original consumer and they would not honor the warranty.Despite Amazon being listed as a retail partner and clearly me being the consumer that purchased the unit from a retailer, Jawbone refused to stand behind their product.Honestly, I'm not sure why I purchased another Jawbone. While I loved my first gen Jawbone, when it broke and I replaced it I found the sound quality was no where near the standard the original set. And friends reported similar disappointments with other generations. Looking around, the Jawbone forums it's clear that my problem is not unique. Both the problems with Noise Assassin in this model and their refusal to honor the warranty. In the past I've avidly recommended Jawbone to friends, but no more.Stay clear of Jawbone. They built a great reputation but are now content to put out shoddy products and find every excuse to deny warranty coverage.BTW - I'd give this product zero stars if I could, but I'm forced to give it one...

I purchased a Jawbone ERA because I am familiar with other Jawbone headset products. This particular model needs to be discontinued immediately. The audio on phone calls is terrible. There is a muffled, popping sound riding on top of the conversation. Being on the road, this is a problem. I use an iPhone 4 and have absolutely no problems with the normal corded headset. Apparently, I am not the only one with these issues. Of course, after I bought the unit, I have seen dozens of complaints about the very same thing on the internet with a variety of phones. So, I cannot believe it's the phone's problem.I cannot complain about Jawbone's customer service. They have been most helpful up to a point troubleshooting and getting me a replacement unit. The problem still persists.I would not recommend this device to anyone. The only reason they got one star was because of the customer service.

I found that this Jawbone more than the others I have owned in the past (Original, and II) lives up to it's promises of noise cancellation and good sound quality.I have only had a small issue with people on speaker phone, and me talking too fast, but that is a minor issue, and one I can easily overcome.I recently called a friend, and was talking to them in my car, with 2 of their (Teenage girls) chatting about food, and with the radio on, and she could hear me clearly, without issue.VERY GOOD PRODUCT, I highly recommend to anyone who needs a good noise canceling headset.NOTE: I have not tested it in high wind, so I can not speak to how well it works there.

I have used more bluetooth headsets than I can count from a range of manufacturers. Jawbone typically proved the most frustrating: excellent technology, good controls, and brilliant packaging marred by heavy weight, large size, use of proprietary chargers, poor fit, and weak sound. Over time, as the already incredible noise-canceling technology improved, the size and weight decreased, and output volume increased, leading to the small, featherweight Icon. The Icon also saw the first use by Jawbone of the micro-USB standard for mobile device charging. Sadly, the Icon still suffered from an unstable fit and tinny sound.Enter the Era, and at last, Jawbone has reached perfection (almost). Most on-line reviews will gush over Jawbone's ability to pack a larger, fuller-spectrum speaker into the same-size housing, and it's true: it is louder, and voices sound more natural, now that they have the "warmth" lacking from the Icon. What they don't tell you is that the eartips are much improved. First, there are four of them now, not just three; what was the Icon's largest one, is now the second-largest packed in the Era's box. Interestingly, the second-largest eartip for the Era is also slightly larger than the Icon's largest, leading to - at last! - a stable, secure fit. One that also remains fairly comfortable for extended periods of time. One will also read much about the built-in accelerometer. While it seems a bit gimicky, I have to admit, the "tap-tap" to answer and end calls is actually pretty slick. I can't wait to see what other control-ability Jawbone will devise for the Era in time.Which is one more point you don't find in on-line reviews: through Jawbone's MyTalk site, not only do the Voices and DialApps continue from the Icon, but you can now adjust nearly a dozen of the Era's settings there, too. For example, I disabled the "double shake-shake" pairing function (still accessible via the multifunction button), and changed the button-hold behavior from volume adjustment to Noise Assassin dis-/en-abling. Very cool. There are just two issues, both minor and not nearly worth the loss of 1 star. An extremely minor nit is the eartip design. I don't understand why no one uses the excellent design of the Plantronics Discovery 640 or Jabra EarGels, which fit more easily, naturally, and comfortably, and guarantee the proper pointing of the headset at the user's mouth. The other issue is Jawbone's insistence on including only one stupidly short USB charging cable. Yes, you can use your own USB/micro-USB one, or buy Jawbone's $15 "cable kit" (which includes a 5' cable and an additional 3" one). But given the $130 price tag and the inclusion of an A/C wall charger (aren't most outlets on or near the floor?), why not include the 5' cable as well? The best headset I ever had to this point was the Jabra JX10, but now it is second-best - by a long shot - to the Jawbone Era. The fun starts with the very cool and eco-friendly box, and goes from there.PS: My phone is an iPhone 3GS, for those that may be wondering, and both mono and stereo sound work flawlessly

I purchased the Jawbone because my boss seemed to be happy with her ICON and after reading the reviews, I thought Jawbone's newest release would be even better. The packaging was user friendly and did not require military-grade tools or brute strength to open. Which was fortunate for me since I decided to return it in less than a week.First, I could not get a comfortable fit with any of the earbuds and the one that had the "best fit" was uncomfortable after less than 30 minutes of use. I had a BlueAnt Z9i before trying the Jawbone and did not have any difficulties with the ear piece, so I assume my ear is unremarkable in shape and size. Also, for 130 bucks (give or take), the sound quality was equivalent to that of a $35 Samsung WEP500--which wasn't very good at all. The caller sounded muffled and because there isn't any volume control on the ERA (it's auto adjust), the muffled caller was also annoyingly loud. Like many states, mine does not allow me to touch my phone while driving, sitting at a red light, or inching my way through traffic but it was a necessary evil to illegally fumble with the volume control on my phone.Unfortunately, this poor audio clarity during voice calls also affected the sound quality of any music you were streaming through the A2DP as well as the voice options through their MyTALK platform. I tried the Voice on the Go application which had a free one week trial. It's really neat because your text & email messages are typed to a recipient and your original voice recording is attached as well so that it can also be heard by the receiver. However, to access the ability to send/receive text & email verbally, you were required to call a phone number and send or "read" your texts/emails via this phone call. I do not speak with any regional accent, yet some of what I said was not accurately translated into text and unlike manually entering your own text, you lose the ability to inject emoticons into your message. So in the case of a business email, I would definitely suggest you type it yourself and skip the risk of miscommunication and if you wanted to send a heart <3 to your loved one, it's best to do it on your own. Also, the Voice on the Go plan costs were based on minutes of use. If you text or email frequently, you would have to subscribe to a more expensive plan and also make sure you had a substantial number of minutes with your cellular carrier to support your frequent calls to Voice on the Go. But again, because of the muffled sound reception, it was difficult understanding the email as they were being read to me and I had to replay the message to fully understand it--more wasted minutes. As for the shake-shake, tap-tap... I didn't find any use for it. Then again, I only used the ERA for 3 or 4 days before deciding to send it back. I purchased the Plantronics Savor M1100 as a replacement. I'll let you know how that goes.

This is the 2nd Jawbone product I purchased. The first was ok and given the rave reviews on CNET, I got this as my primary earpiece. All I can say is the sound quality is highly variable (most of the time not good) and now it has stopped working telling me that the sofware is being updated, although it is not connected to anything. This has been going on all day long. My plantronics earpiece I bought as backup for 2/3 of the price is much better and more reliable. If you are thinking of getting this don't and go buy another brand that is probably much cheaper and better quality.

Length:: 0:27 MinsLooking for a bluetooth headset I could use when driving in a convertible with the top down, I researched and bought three to compare: Plantronics Discovery 975, Jawbone ERA, and Etymotic etyBLU2. The Etymotic was the hands-down winner. Without a full length boom and wind baffle, the Plantronics and Jawbone didn't really stand a chance. My rating is biased by how the headset performs in a convertible, as that's my primary use.I recorded calls made with the three headsets at freeway speed in the convertible with the top down. I started each recording with the windows rolled up, then rolled them down partway through. The recording for each product is included in my video review for that product. I have reviewed this item previously. Unit stopped working and after multiple delays of them asking for my Amazon receipt -Amazon only, NO non Amazon purchase returns accepted- and then asking for the serial number, they accepted the return. But now, Jawbone have no units in stock to send me so I must wait until who-knows- when? They cannot say how long it will take, period. So, I await a replacement.UPDATE Sept. 15, 2012, replacment finally arrived. Took something over two months of waiting. Meanwhile got a Blue Ant A2 that seems much more comefortable and great features.I will repeat this here: Plantronics Pro headsets are terriffic quality (BEST VOICE QUALITY OF ANY) if you find they fit your ear...and they (USED TO) have Quick-Web Service and send your replacment before you even have to ship your item back (THIS POLICY IS NO LONGER THE CASE WITH PLANTRONCIS, BUT STILL THEY ARE REASONABLE ABOUT QUICK TURN AROUND) Spend the extra money on the Pro HD or at least + models for H2DP which allows you to listen to music and podcasts.

BUYER BEWARE!!! Do NOT buy from 11th St. Wireless (Fulfilled by Amazon)! The product and all it's accessories were crammed in a flimsy ziploc plastic baggy with a printed sticker reflecting this product page's title "Jawbone ERA Headset - Shadowbox - Retail Packaging". Retail packaging, this is not! You would never find something packaged like this in a brick and mortar store. Because this did not come in its original manufacturer retail packaging, this means that either 1) This product was used, or 2) This product was a refurbished unit. I didn't want to take my chances so I immediately contacted Amazon by phone and well what do you know? By the time I received this product, the product page on Amazon now shows that this product is under investigative review due to multiple customer complaints. Least to say, this product is on it's way right now back to Amazon and my money back in my wallet. If you're considering a Jawbone ERA in authentic manufacturer retail packaging, I'd urge you to wait until Amazon completes their investigation or just buy from someplace else.

After reading a number of reviews on this site as well as reading the PCMAG online review I decided to take the plunge on the Jawbone Era. Currently it is paired with a BlackBerry 9630 Verizon phone. After about a week of use I offer the following observations:* Fit: No problem establishing a good fit. I use one of the smaller ear pieces with a loop and found it to be very effective. The device always feels securely in place.* Pairing: Four shakes and the device quickly pairs with my BlackBerry. Flawless & Easy* Usability: Two taps to answer, one to hang-up. Two or three practices calls and it was second nature.* Noise Reduction: Amazing performance in a variety of noisy environments. When I first tried the device I called my wife from the TV room. As we spoke I gradually turned up the TV, only when the TV was uncomfortably loud for me could my wife hear it through her phone, and even then it was fairly mutued. I have since used my Jawbone Era in the car, on conference calls and even on an airplane while the flight attendants were making the pre-flight announcements. The people I was chatting with were always able to hear with good clarity.* Sound quality: It is louder and clearer than either the regular or speaker phone mode on the blackberry. In noisy environments it is the best solution, but I find even when there is minimal background noise that the sound quality is better the blackberry speakers.* Applications: You can download applications for this ear piece, although I struggle to understand what I would want it to do (Angry Birds for Jawbone?!). Haven't tried this function.* Build quality: Seems reasonably well built and I like that it has a conventional charging jack. (I understand this to be a change from previous model). Little neoprene case provided with purchase is appropriate to task.* Sex appeal: SORRY, it is a nice piece of equipment, but unless you're Russel Brand or George Clooney it will have the same mojo dampening effect as any other headset!! :-)Kidding aside, overall a very nice performer. I have read other reviews which challenge the cost of this device. From my perspective $130 may be a little more than some competitors, but for the amount of time I spend on the phone, it seems like excellent value in exchange for the quality received. Would purchase again without hesitation.Hope this review helps with your decision making.

Buyer beware! Because this product was purchased on Amazon, it is not eligible for warranty replacement through the manufacturer, or the retailer after 30 days. About 90 days after I purchased this product, people began complaining that they could not hear me properly. Most commonly, it was an echo or a comparison to talking through a tube. I went through normal troubleshooting methods by resetting my phone, updating firmware, re-pairing the headset, etc. Finally I called customer support and was walked through the manufacturers troubleshooting protocol which consisted of a "soft reset" and a "hard reset" of the headset. When neither method worked, I was offered a 25% discount on a new device. Needless to say, I declined. I had the original Jawbone for years before it finally gave out, this one has been nothing but a huge disappointment and complete waste of time and money. I will never spend the money for any of their products again. Also, I think Amazon should make it abundantly clear that they are not an "authorized" third-party retailer for this product (and others) when it essentially voids any warranty.

UPDATE: after six months of use people constantly ask me to quit using this. Double checked the software update for Jawbone. It's up to date. This thing is a piece of junk. Lowered the rating to one star, because zero stars is not an option. This thing is sexy. The product description makes you drool and the flashy website makes you feel you'll own a piece of Army's high tech device. Expect to be disappointed. The Noise Assassin simply does not work. It failed a simple test. I recorded a 45 second message, with pauses using calm voice, to my voice-mail while walking in windy weather (10 MPH) with passing noise of a truck passing, two cars (including Prius), and some light construction voice. None of the noise was blocked off and voice was barely heard. (No, this feature is not disabled in the settings). The upgrade of firmware via the website worked, but that disabled headset's ability to play music. This required a call to tech support that resolved the issue by providing instructions on how to do a soft reset of the device, but not before collecting more personal information than I cared to share. The TapTap no longer works to hang-up the call after the update. The fit in the ear is OK after trying various cup sizes - the headpiece will fly out of your ear if you make a sudden movement. Lower your expectations to avoid an expectations hangover.

I did a lot of research before purchasing the ERA headset. I even had an inexpensive model just to get a feel for having a headset to see if the whole concept was for me since I was a virgin bluetooth headset person. The quality of sound reception is awesome and I have had no complaints from the people on the receiving end of my conversations. The noise assassin works great. The pairing was very simple. I do like the "tap tap" option for phone calls but sometimes it feels more like "whack whack" so I tend to answer phone calls with the tab at the top. I registered with the mytalk option and selected the "rogue" for my talk id. The female voic Aes were just not my cup of tea. I also like the caller id option. Yes, it only gives you ten slots. I realizes that this is not sufficient for a teenage girl or a business man but it works just fine for a middle age mom. Numbers that are not one of my "top ten" are read as the number so it is still good if its a number I recognize, say, my ex husband. (He didn't make it to my top 10. Go figure). As with many bluetooth headpieces, the earpiece options that come with it suck. All of them. I am currently going with a suggestion somebody else made which is using the jabra eargels for the jawbone ERA (they also make them for the icon and other jawbone headpieces). They are a much more comfortable option and they stay in your ear without having to use the over the ear wire. After extended wearing of the eargels (I tend to wear it for a long period of time or my family accuses me of not being readily accessible as I do not actually carry my blackberry up my butt) my ear gets a bit sore so I am having a custom eargel made (I have VERY small ears and ear canals). It may be an option you want to consider but if you have ears even remotely on the small side I would go ahead and get the jabra eargels which you can order on Amazon as well. They come in different sizes and are have right and left ear specific pieces. The lack of a proper fitting earbud is why I gave it only 4 stars.

I purchased the Jawbone Era 5 months ago. It worked flawlessly with my iphone4 until about 2 weeks ago when it began to break up and garble my outgoing voice. I thought it was location specific but within days the complaints I got from people I called told me it happens everywhere. I called Jawbone and was walked through a software reset which seems to work for now. Here's where they earn their 2 stars:I explained that this is not stated in the warranty or on the Amazon website. The customer rep agreed but stuck to his guns: I bought it from an unauthorized seller so the 1 year warranty on my 4 month old product is void. I asked for a list of authorized sellers. The Jawbone rep told me that is internal company information and he can't give it out!I looked around their website and found a page showing logos of "retail partners" To my amazement there was the secret list of approved sellers and Amazon is not one of them: ergo no factory warranty. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN AFTER 30 DAYS when you buy a jawbone product through any online seller that isn't jawbone.com. This makes it simple for me: I'm not going to buy Jawbone products any more.

I've been following the Jawbone product line for over a year now, wondering if the product hype is really true. I'm happy to say my experience in using the Jawbone ERA has been great. My previous headset was a plantronics 925. It got the job done and was low profile and unobtrusive. The ERA is a big change for me, although as it turns out, it's a welcome change. The Noise Assasin 3.0 does a great job. The Jawbone Companion software interfaces well on both my Blackberry Bold and HTC EVO. Since I carry a personal and business cell phone with me all the time, having simultaneous multipoint capability is a nice boon. With the plantronics, if I answered a call on the other phone it disconnected the current call. The ERA passes it back and forth similar to call waiting on a single line. The Jawbone website lets you change some settings on the headset, and install some additional apps such as Jawbone Companion for your smartphone. The charger provided puts out the same voltage at very close to the same milliamps as my Blackberry car charger. It's nice that both my Blackberry, EVO and headset can all be charged with the same car charger if necessary.I was very comfortable with the fit of the Plantronics 925. The earbud that came installed on the ERA didn't provide that same comfortable fit. Fortunately the ERA ships with enough options that I think everyone should be able to get a comfortable fit. I found that the non loop earbud slightly smaller than the factory installed earbud provides the same comfort I had with my previous headset and that I do not need to use the included over the ear hook with it.If you're on the fence regarding the Jawbone ERA, it's time to jump down and pick one up. My negative review is not of the Jawbone ERA, which is a great headset. My review is of the seller, Seller1on1. The Jawbone Era was sold as new, wnen it actually was used or refurbished. When the Jawbone arrived, its packaging was scuffed and worn, and appeared to have been opened previously. When I went to update the firmware and set the advanced settings on the device, it reported that it had been previously connected to "Bill's Phone." Jawbone's tech support confirmed that a new device would not ship showing that it had been connected to "Bill's Phone." And, consistent with a defective return, the Jawbone did not function properly. (This is my third Jawbone ERA, but I also confirmed with Jawbone's tech support that the device is not functioning properly.) So don't be mislead by the good price, the price is better than purchasing directly from Amazon because this merchant is NOT selling new products.

The jawbone era did not come in retail packaging as advertised in the title. It was definitely a used set. Sorely disappointing as I've never had such bad experience with amazon. Stay away from this!

I ordered this Jawbone ERA at the price of $90.00 Feeling as though I had found a decent deal I was excited. This product was a prime order yet it took a week to get to me should have been 2-3 days. This frustrated me but I was ok with it. Then came the very disturbing part. I read reviews on Seller1ON1 for 60-70 dollar range for the Jawbone ERA. They all said they had received repackaged/used goods. I was still hope-full I purchased a new product for more money till it arrived. It was labeled NEW but the package was slightly weathered. I plugged the ERA into my computer to find that it was already paired to a device named ERIC and had software installed on it that was not factory. Just to make sure this was not a mistake on my part I contacted JAWBONE directly and they confirmed this was a used unit.Bottom line:STAY AWAY FROM Seller1ON1

I upgraded from an original Jawbone, which had multiple problems. All of my problems with the original Jawbone are fixed in the model. It is simple to learn and use. It has excellent voice quality, excellent noise-canceling, though on a very windy ridge it's still difficult to use unless you put up your hood. The on-off switch is great. Having a micro-USB charger interchangeable with other cellphone chargers is a great plus. 5 hours of talk iime is great. Bluetooth voice dialing with my HTC EVO Android 2.2 works great, once I figured out that I had to use Google Contacts synced with my phone to make this work. Streaming audio mp3s from my phone (via Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)) works well, if in mono - but for podcasts or Teaching Company mp3s it's fine. The default earpiece fits my ear comfortably - I originally was afraid that it was so loose it would fall out, so changed to a larger earpiece. But after finding it made my ear hurt after an hour or so, I went back to the default size. Once I got over the feeling of looseness, I realized it was actually quite secure in my ear, and is comfortable for many hours. The slide-in case makes it easy to keep it in my pocket. The software updater on the Jawbone website wouldn't work in FireFox, I had to use Internet Explorer. And the website is full of all sorts of flashy ads for many different software updates - different voices and the like. Fluff. But the headset itself is simple and easy to use.I suspect that Jawbone or someone else will come out with a bluetooth headset that has all sorts of new, cool features. But for the core uses - talking on your phone, voice dialing, and streaming audio - this is perfect.
