I needed this product because the adapter on the motherboard of my Dell Vostro desktop became flakey, and was not repairable without replacing the whole motherboard (the machine was only a couple of months out of warranty ... ouch).The Intel adapter was reasonably priced, easy to install, worked on first boot with Windows 7 (no additional driver installation required), and has been trouble-free.BTW, when purchasing expansion cards, it's important to actually open your PC and confirm the architecture of the available slots. Foolishly, I did not do this the first time around, and ordered a PCI card, not realizing that this machine had no PCI slot! This whole area is confusing (there are multiple types of PCI-E slots), so best to research carefully ahead of time. Retailers like Amazon good give better guidance/warnings for this compatibility issue.

For anyone looking for I new NIC I would recommend this one. Solid performance with good consistent speeds and ping. I went from a on board Intel Ethernet chip-set to this card. I hoped it would slightly decrease my pings and processor load during gaming/internet usage. It did, just not as much as I hopped. Dropped my I7's load down about 1-2% and improved my ping about 1 ms on average. I did have a pretty good on-board Intel chip-set to start with, almost identical to the one on the card just not all the boot features and advanced management. If you have a real-tech chip-set I would expect more of an improvement though. Great card all in all though and at a decent price point.

The network adapter that came with my Dell XPS 8300 began to fail several weeks ago. After doing some research, I found that I could either replace the motherboard, because the failing Broadcom adapter was soldered to it, or purchase and install this Intel adapter. Spending $30 and a few minutes of time installing a new adapter seemed like the best way to go, and it works beautifully! Many thanks to everyone on Amazon and on the Broadcom forum who took the time to discuss the "XPS 8300 problem" and leave reviews. You helped me figure out how to get back online!!!

My motherboard's LAN ports were getting buggy, dropping network connections at random intervals and I needed a fix. With a single PCI-e slot available, a PCI express card was my less expensive and less troubling fix vs. changing out the motherboard. Reviews here and in other tech boards praised this Intel network card. After plugging in the card, I had to maintain the old connection long enough for Windows Vista Premium to find the hardware and locate the right driver online to complete the setup. Note that as this is an OEM package, there is no setup disk included, which does have the benefit of making the purchase cheaper. Trying this routine offline by taking a stab at various Intel network card choices didn't do the trick, and there was no telling how long that guesswork would have taken. Luckily, I still had some connectivity through the system board to let the O/S complete the job. Switching over the jack and resetting the cable modem brought me up in seconds with the new card.

I just hooked up a Netgear 3500L V.2 Gigabite router, about 2 weeks ago. My main PC was only running at 100Mpb, yellow light on router indicates that. Took 1 minute to install, and Win 7 auto detected new device, auto loaded driver, green light now on router or 1000Mpb. After reading the reviews, I decied not to go with a cheaper product, and I am very happy with this product. Skip the cheaper one's, save a headack, cause thier like rolling dice. The entire set up install, reboot, auto detect was about 3 minutes. If you have a gigabite router, you need a gigabite card. My on board Intel 10/100, did not interfere with this install. Was a breeze. Bob...UPDATE 10/22..Inrel onboard was still set to run. Did not interfere with gigabite card, but I went into bios and turned it off, rebooted, everything fine.

My computer's onboard NIC was having problems with the NIC losing connection due to driver issues, so I decided to install this item. I did a speed test, and it seems a bit faster. My motherboard has a Marvell NIC controller, which has been known to have problems. In general, Intel makes good NIC cards so I'm happy. Good investment.

When the on-board LAN connection in a PC needed to be upgraded from 100 megabit, I chose this model. I needed the highest possible throughput, so I wanted PCI-E and gigabit. It has worked as designed from first install, without issue.

When I needed to purchase a network card for my Windows 7 64bit machine I was reading reviews and found mixed information on whether each product would or would not work on Windows 7 64bit. Even this product had mixed reviews.I decided to check the Windows 7 hardware compatibility list and found it should work. I decided to purchase.When I got the product I plugged it into the slot where it belongs closed the case turned the machine on and that is all it took. Windows 7 with all major updates had no issues with this product at all. Microsoft had native drivers for this item that installed with out any interaction from me, just like when you plug in a USB flash drive.If really want to check out the compatibility you can look at this page on Microsoft.(...)

A recent storm fried a couple ethernet ports and cards at my church including the onboard ethernet in a Dell Vostro 460. Unfortunately, the 460 only has PCI-E slots and our stash of PCI ethernet cards was useless.The Intel Gb PCI-E was a great, cost effective solution for us. I disabled the dead onboard ethernet and installed this in a free PCI-E slot and was back on the network in minutes. The OS is Win 7 64 bit and it already had a driver for the card. I ran Windows Update and it found an updated driver which I installed also.

The onboard MOBO LAN in one of our office computers was going out resulting in some network issues. So we installed this LAN card to fix the issue. Worked perfectly. Over the last 20 years, we have used a number of different brands of network cards but over the last 10 years have used Intel Lan cards exclusively as we have always been able to trust them for quality and reliability. I'm not sure they are the fastest, but for near bulletproof reliability, we have always been able to count on them to keep our business running.

My new Dell XPS came with a network 'card' built into the motherboard. I had a recurring problem when network access eventually became intermittant. I called Dell support and after several tries at a fix, Dell finally sent a replacement motherboard, under the initial 1 year warranty. In a few weeks it, too, started to give the same intermittant failures. No one at Dell could fix my problem.My solution - I bought and installed this Intel card. Sure, it takes up a slot (1 of 3) but I'm on-line now. BTW - I got the Blue Screen of Death a few times after I installed this Intel device. I (1) disabled the driver for the Broadcom 'card' on the motherboard and (2) found a driver update for this Intel card. I've been running fault-free for over a month.

Its very basic and windows will install the driver automaticially when you install it into your computer. Very easy to do. I have a Dell XPS 8300 the network card that came with the machine absolutely sucks, this has worked everytime for me.

Installed directly into available PCI-Express slot with computer unplugged. Plug a Gigabit Ethernet cable directly from my Linksys router into this Intel card. After turning the power back on, the computer correctly identified this network card, installed the driver, and recognized the 1.0 G LAN connection. Very pleased.

I installed this card in my Dell with windows 7 (64) which took 5 minutes. It worked without the need to install drivers or make any other changes. It seems much faster than the adapter that was built into the computer's motherboard.

Granted the price is a little higher than others.However, I bought two cheap PCIe Gigabit Cards ($7 ea.) and was expecting them to work.I was pretty much wrong, could have taken the $14.00 and thrown it out of the window, same effect.So, I decided to get a brand name and was not disappointed with the product.Installed, fired computer (Linux Server Box) up and here it was, no reboots, hang ups or anything else.It just worked right out of the box.I am happy with the product.I did not do any scientific tests to verify the design, far beyond my scope.It works, that's all I have to tell.The fact that a low profile mounting bracket was included, was absolutely great for my application.

The storms knocked out my modem and my Ethernet port, because the modem was not plugged in the surge protector.To make sure this fits in your PC, open the case of your PC and see if you have the necessary ports. Most likely you will have two them.Plug this card in one of them, and disable the old Ethernet card.This card was plug and play, and Windows configured it by itself.This card is as fast as the one that went out. I performed a speed test and my connection is as fast as before.I chose to go with a PCI card rather than a USB adapter because it doesn't take up USB ports, it fits with the PC, and USB adapters are not as fast.Order this card with no fear; it will work nicely.

I purchased this card for a home server whose motherboard did not come with gigabit ethernet connectivity. The server is a Ubuntu Linux box, and installation was as easy as plugging the card into a PCI-Express port, and inserting the cable, no configuration necessary! This will be my go-to card whenever I need gigabit ethernet.

The card comes all alone. I found drivers on Intel site but the readme.txt told me that it did not work on Vista 64. They were right the drivers never loaded and I had to return the card.

I opened the case, plugged it into an available PCI slot and Windows found it right away. The only potential difficulty is that you need an Internet connection to get the driver for Windows XP. I just used the old existing motherboard 10/100 connection that this board was replacing, but if the new board is your only connection, you'll have a problem. Once Windows installed the board, I switched the Ethernet wire to the new board and got a 1 gigabit connection right away. I disabled the old connection through control panel and was done.
