Why would you spend the extra money for this monitor? You can get a nice 24" monitor for a lot less than $400 . . . I know because that's what I did about 18 months ago when I bought my 24" Samsung Syncmaster 2433. I was very happy with that monitor, and now my wife is very happy with it on her computer. Before buying the Samsung I didn't do my homework and so I was just looking for a larger size for my video and photo editing. I didn't dig deep enough to learn about things like TFT and ISP. Among many other differences I didn't know that TFT monitors are really 6 bit with an algorithm to make it look like you are getting a lot more colors than you really are and that ISP monitors are true 8 bit. After about 9 months with the Samsung I really began to notice that when I was editing images I kept moving my head and/or tilting the screen to see it at the best angle. I also found I was standing up and stepping back a few feet to get a better look. That's when I started researching and finding out why some monitors cost a lot more than others. Yes, you can pay $1000 or more for a monitor, which I don't need because I don't make a living with my graphics, it's just a very serious hobby. Fortunately for me, like a lot of technology, the price on good ISP monitors has dropped a lot in the last year. After spending several hours in research I decided that the HP ZR24w was probably the best value for my budget. I read numerous reviews both here on Amazon.com and others.Like others, one of the first things I noticed when I opened the box and started to unpack it was the shear weight and solid feeling of both the monitor and the stand. I also noticed that every kind of cord was included so whether you want to connect by VGA (I wouldn't recommend), DVI or Display Port, It's in there. They also included a USB cable to connect to use the monitor as a USB Hub - very handy. The next thing I noticed was that it didn't look like the photo on the Amazon site. In the photo it looks like the top and bottom of the frame around the screen is bright chrome. I was worried about a bright reflection being distracting. I was happy to see that the monitor is surrounded by flat black on all four sides. The control buttons are on the lower right front, which have not been a distraction for me.As hinted above, the stand is very solid and substantial. It also provides a good solid base that does not easily slide on the desktop. The connection of the monitor to the stand is very well engineered and built with the added bonus of a passage opening through the base to guide cords. Again, well done. There appears to be plenty of adjustment in height, tilt angle and rotation angle and as a bonus it seems quite smooth in all directions.Knowing that I was not going up in size the only reason to get this new monitor was for a better image for my photo editing and hoping that it would be a little easier on the eyes because of it. Again, not being a business use, I do not have the equipment required for calibrating the color like it should be but I had read enough reviews to know that It would come on very bright and so I really didn't waste any time viewing it at factory default I went in and immediately reduced the brightness to 7. I know a lot of reviewers said they went to 0, but I read some tests in one in-depth and very technical review and their tests were very good at 7. I then changed some of the RGB color settings based on the same review, and I was not happy with what I was seeing, so I went back and re-studied the review and saw my error. I finally settled on brightness of 7, contrast of 100 and color setting of 6500K - sRGB. I have one of my favorite photos as my desktop and when I went to it it was like going from watching a DVD to watching Blu-Ray. Though I was happy with the image on the old monitor this one gave me greater detail, depth and vibrance especially along the edges and corners. I went to my blog and flickr and looked at the photos there and the difference was again very visible. Since my wife is using the Samsung monitor that I switched out I can easily compare the images on the Internet. The improvement is very obvious with the ZR24w.In my home office I have a large window behind me at about a 150 degree angle and I've had no issue with reflection/glare.The bottom line, as they say, is simply this: It appears that I made an excellent choice, and even though I do not have $$ to throw around I feel this was a good investment in my photography. I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone who needs or wants the quality of an ISP monitor for video/photo editing and graphic work.

I am an advanced amateur photographer who does his own work from the initial taking of the shot through to the final print. Like most people, I find the printing step to be the most frustrating and to involve the most technical expertise. I use a Canon Pro 9000 13 x 19 printer because I like the vivacity of the dye type inks. Color is my thing and the Canon Chromalife inks provide that in spades. I use Photoshop Elements 9, Perfect Photosuite Pro 5.3.3, and Nik Sharpener Pro to process my pictures. Like most photographers, I work in the sRGB color space from initial shot to final product. I had purchased a Dell 2408 WFP 24 inch monitor three years ago in a burst of enthusiasm for extended color range monitors. Don't ask me why, since I don't work in an extended color space like Adobe. As it turned out, that was a poor decision. I now believe that anyone working in the sRGB color space should save themselves a bunch of headaches and get an sRGB monitor. I tried everything I could to get the prints from my Canon printer to look like what I got on the screen with the Dell. After trying multiple settings on the red, green and blue phosphors, multiple brightness and contrast settings, playing with the white point, calibrating the monitor with multiple tools, etc. over a 2 and a half year period, I managed to get the prints looking pretty close to what I saw on the monitor, but I never was able to achieve true WYSIWYG. Like most photographers "pretty close" was not good enough for me. I finally broke down and bought the HP ZR24w LCD monitor. Right out of the box, the colors were really good and the prints came out very close. As recommended in some articles I read, I used the sRGB color setting on the monitor, dropped the brightness all the way down to zero and pushed the contrast all the way up to 100%. Then I calibrated it using Spyder Elite 4.0 software and the Spyder colorimeter. Even dropping the brightness to zero didn't allow me to get to the recommended 120 candelas, but I got to 142. The brightness at the factory setting was in the middle 300s. My white point ended up at 2.25 which is good enough. The DeltaE for the white point was 0.9 and for the 50% gray was 0.3. Anything below 1.0 is considered excellent fidelity. Pushing the contrast all the way to 100% before calibration resulted in a black point of 0.26, not wonderful, but a whole lot better than the 0.54 it was out of the box. Anyway, the upshot of all this technobabble is that in one sitting I was able to set the color so that it was very realistic and, importantly, I was able to get my prints looking just like what I saw on the screen. This monitor has beautiful color that is not cartoonish or way oversaturated. Being a sRGB monitor, it is easier to set for WYSIWYG prints. Most desktop printers print in sRGB, although a few can handle extended color spaces. This monitor is really bright and you have to tone it down. In addition, it doesn't have the deepest blacks around, but you can get it looking quite good by using the trick with contrast prior to calibration of the screen. Do not just set the brightness to zero and the contrast to 100 without calihrating the screen afterward. If you are not going to calibrate or don't have a colorimeter, then I'd recommend you set the brightness to 25 or 30% and the contrast to 100% using the sRGB 6500 color setting of the monitor. This will get you in the ballpark. In summary, this HP monitor is a great bargain at the $376 it sells for on Amazon. It is a solidly built, easy to adjust monitor with excellent color fidelity. After just three or four hours of fiddling, I liked the colors better than those on the Dell and they gave me WYSIWYG prints. Dell has replaced the 2808 WFP with a 2810 that is reputedly a better monitor. But it is still an extended color space monitor and you are buying yourself extra problems if you work in sRGB. The Dell has an sRGB emulation setting, but I don't think any emulation is as good as a real sRGB monitor. Besides, the Dell is $125 more. Why pay for something you dont need?

If you don't want to read my long rambling, skip down to the pros and cons below. Also read my update below.I previously owned a 'Samsung 226BW' for 6 years (TN panel) and had the 'HP LP2475w' briefly (H-IPS panel, instead of e-IPS like this ZR24w). My problem with the LP2475w was it's wide gamut and I wanted consistent color saturation across the entire desktop. I wanted a good looking monitor for multiple purpose, for work and entertainment. This ZR24w meets my need, it only come with a few small imperfections, but they are not bad enough so I would still recommend it.General impressions, the good stuff:-The monitor has a very sturdy stand. After turning the brightness down to zero (which is still bright enough), it output around 37watt which is acceptable. The monitor is very bright, but CCFL backlights are known to slowly dim as it gets more hours, so this is a good thing for the long run.-The colors are simply stunning, combined with great contrast this monitor have very good clarity. When viewing photos and videos, the details and objects stands out, unlike most TN panels which look washed out by comparison. Watching HD videos should be a joy.-The text is really smooth and sharp at the same time, one of the highlight of this monitor. Good for people who spend lots of time reading online. Small pixel pitch (.270mm) so you won't notice dots unless you move your eyes up close to the screen. There is a feature to adjust sharpness, but only 5 steps, which isn't enough IMO.-The monitor is standard color gamut (not wide), so colors are not over saturated and are consistent across the whole screen. This is important as it makes the monitor more attractive to average users who don't want to mess with color profiles. Of course, if you are an artist/designer and want to work with Adobe RGB colors, you should buy a wide gamut monitor instead. The green tint:My previous HP LP2475w have the infamous problem that plague some IPS monitors: one side of the screen have a pinkish tint and the other side a greenish tint. Unfortunately, my ZR24w came with a slight green tint starting from the right edge of the screen disappearing toward the middle, the left side is white. I can notice the green with white and gray backgrounds. Turning down the green and calibrating the monitor can help a lot, but the green doesn't fully go away. This imperfection bothers me because I do a lot of online reading and a bit of scripts editing that usually involves white background. UPDATE: I fixed this problem using a (better) colorimeter, more info below.Backlight uniformity:There are some backlight leakage. I set the monitor to display a black screen and in a dark room took photos of the monitor using my camera with 1/4th and 1/8th second exposure to exaggerate backlight leakage. The photo shows leakage coming from the bottom left and a small bit from the rest of corners. Believe it or not, I noticed these leakages even while using the monitor in daytime when the screen background is a dark colored like black or dark brown, though not anymore if the screen is displaying brighter colors. Also, the backlight slightly dims along the very top and bottom edges of the screen.Black level:The black level isn't great and have problem showing 'true black'. Experienced users will know what I mean when a monitor's black level is not good and instead of pure black you see kind of a 'reflective black' because of the backlight bleeds through. This creates a problem when you watch movies or play FPS video games where very dark scenes are involved, this 'reflective black' can makes it harder to pick out objects and details. Despite this, the contrast is good and the colors are accurate, it's still much better watching black and white films on this monitor than my Samsung 226BW. However, I don't think this is the best monitor to edit black and white photos (also due to a bit of 'color banding', though rarely will you notice it unless you are doing specific tests to identify the banding).Viewing angles:If your eyes are leveled with this monitor, the image quality will remain if you shift left and right horizontally. However, if you stand up and look down from the top-right or top-left, it loses gamma and saturation. So imagine a situation when someone is standing by your side looking down at the monitor, they would either have to bring their eyes down to the height of the monitor or step back one or two steps to see more clearly. Same problem looking up diagonally from below. This e-IPS panel has better viewing angle than TN panels, but possibly not as good as the more expensive H-IPS panels.Display speed:-Input lag: I have the Samsung 226BW which is known have very low input lag. I connect it and the ZR24w to the video card for clone view, ran a stop-watch timer software and set my camera to 1/125th second exposure time, then took photos of the two monitors. In the photos, the times displayed on the ZR24w screen are slower than the times in the 226BW for onl

My wife and I are wedding photographers and we use a pair of these monitors for image editing in Lightroom and Photoshop.I have somewhat mixed feelings about this monitor. I'll mention my purchase experience and then I will explain my usage experience.Purchase:I purchased a pair from B&H based on some positive reviews. I installed them both on a pair of LCD arms I purchased on Amazon for around $60. Setup looked great, monitors were identical, everything matched and I was ready to go. Upon using the monitors a while, I noticed that the screen on the right had a clump of 4 or 5 pixels burned out. So, I called B&H and they were going to send me a new one, but they were out. I returned the defective one to B&H and bought one from Amazon. Another 4-5 pixel clump dead this time in a different area of the screen. I did a return/exchange on the spot with Amazon and I had my new monitor the next day. This third new one also had a couple pixels (smaller area) out, but this time it was in the upper right hand corner and it was not in my way--I was by this time sick of returning these things. Fast forward about 40 days....the right hand side screen went out. I thought it was my video card, but no, the monitor went black and was deemed defective by HP. I was outside my 30 days at Amazon, so I had to go to HP. Boy, did they ever surprise me with their excellent service! They Next Day Aired me a new one the next morning with a return label and the new one is perfect - no dead pixels what so ever. Finally a happy camper. A little leery that the left one may go out, but fingers crossed it'll stay up.Usage:Because I am a wedding photographer, monitor color accuracy and luminance is important. I use the XRite I1 Display 2 to calibrate my monitors so that when I edit my photos, they are color accurate for web viewing and also print correctly at pro labs. Out of the box, the ZR24w's are reasonably color accurate, but not perfect (I think not many monitors are perfectly color accurate out of the box, but that's just a guess from experience). The first thing you'll notice when you use these monitors is that they are UBER BRIGHT. Way too bright for accurate editing of images. To achieve proper 120cd/m2 luminance, I had to reduce contrast to around 85-90 and then decrease brightness to around 0. These numbers vary from unit to unit. I noticed that my images were showing up dark on other computers and then realized this is because my screen is way too bright! Viewing angles are reasonably good. You will notice a shift in the image when you move from dead-center, but no noticeable color shifting.Overall, I am happy with these monitors. I have recommended them to friends with the above caveats/hassles. For the price, it's hard to beat the performance of these screens. They are color accurate (I recommend machine calibrating them, it's not that expensive to get, if your business relies on color accuracy) and they are large and sharp. I would probably step up to the LP2475w next time, but my budget wanted the ZR24w's and I'm not disappointed. HP's and Amazon's superb customer service makes choosing HP through Amazon a pretty easy choice for me in the future.

When i purchased this monitor a week ago, it had 4 dead pixels on the bottom and another smudge on the right, which HP calls "contamination". I sent it back and got a new one having a flawless screen.First of all, let me say that I'm a computer engineering student and spend most of my time writing code. I also frequently watch movies and play games. My expectations from a new monitor were:- 1920x1200 resolution (not the 1920x1080 crap)- Crisp text- Good viewing angles- Bright colors- Matte screen- Relatively low input lag and ghostingThis monitor has fulfilled nearly all of these expectations. The 1920x1200 resolution is great. The text looks crisp and the colors are bright and accurate enough out of the box. I just had to reduce the brightness to 10 because it looked like a torch in its default setting. Screen is very uniform with no bleeding or anything else. Its blacks are not as deep as my brothers 27" Apple Cinema Display but the details on dark screens are clear enough. I haven't noticed any input lag or ghosting in any type of game i played which includes Dirt 3, Fifa 11, Crysis etc. therefore i think that this is a good monitor for gamers. It has a sturdy and flexible stand. Build quality is very good in general and also the monitor itself looks good thanks to the aluminium strip, even though it is a bit thick. For me, the most important problem with this monitor is the grainy matte film on the screen. It certainly isn't excessive but still bothered me after coming from my 19" Samsung having a PVA panel. I really don't understand the reason of existence of this film. One doesn't need to put a grainy film on the screen to make it matte. My 19" Samsung has also a matte screen that doesn't reflect any light and yet doesn't have even the slightest grain on its screen. Unfortunately, most of the IPS monitors on the market today have this grainy textured films on their screens. At least the ones that are in this price range. The grain was bothering me a lot at first, but after using it for a week, i think i got used to it and it doesn't bother me as much as it did before. But still, i have to use it for a longer period of time to see if it will cause eye strain or not when reading/writing a lot of text. The other problem is the viewing angles. Horizontal viewing angles seem fine although not as good as H-IPS panel monitors but the vertical viewing angles are not good. I can see considerable amount of contrast change if i look at the monitor from a viewing angle of +-30 degrees or more. This of course doesn't bother me during working because I don't move my head that much (no one will), but still the vertical viewing angles are not good enough for an IPS panel. I think this is a problem of the cheaper S-IPS technology because even my Philips 200W has much more better angles than this one even though it is 2+ years older. The monitor gets considerable hot from the top after a few hours of usage even though I'm using it with a brightness setting of 10. I wonder what would happen if i used this monitor with a higher brightness setting like 80-90. This isn't a problem though as long as the monitor doesn't fail. Conclusion:Despite the grainy matte film on its screen and its limited vertical viewing angles, it is a good monitor overall. For the people who don't spend most of their time on their computers reading or writing text, it doesn't have any significant flaw. For the others, it will depend on the user i think because despite of the grains, the texts are crisp and in time one gets used to it.

The HP ZR24w is a 24 inch diagonal 1920 x 1200 resolution (16:10 aspect ratio) LCD with florescent backlight and IPS LCD technology. Viewing angle lengthgwise is wider than across the length. This shows up as more dimming when viewing across the long axis (up and down in landscape mode, and left and right in portrait mode). It may be somewhat better suited to using in landscape mode, though it works fine for me in portrait mode. Normally one doesn't move around a lot when using a monitor. To set portrait mode, be sure to download the latest video card drivers, then look for the "rotate" tab or button in display properties for the video card. HP software is not needed to use portrait mode in Windows XP SP3 with the latest Nvidia drivers. Same standard software works with multiple monitors.I measured AC power usage at about 85 Watts with the brightness set at the factory default 80%. The monitor is way too bright by default so I turned it down to 0%, where it's still too bright for my tastes, but perfectly usable. At 0%, the power usage is 37 watts, about the same as an LED-backlit LCD monitor of similar size.Note that LED backlights can have uneven and relatively rapid dimming, particularly on the blue LEDs, somewhat reminiscent of the dimming problem of plasma displays. Florescent backlights are still better in some ways, though LEDs can have a wider color gamut and are slightly more efficient. Don't be afraid of buying a florescent backlit display. This one is excellent. The backlight will probably last even longer than the usual decade or more of constant use at the lower power I'm running.Image quality is excellent, including when playing full HD video. Have not tried it with games yet, but given that it does HD video fine, it should be fine with games too. In normal work with text and still images, it's great. It should play HDTV, DVDs, HD Video, etc., just fine, with very small black bars on the top and bottom of the screen since video is usually 16:9 and the monitor is 16:10. If the video aspect ratio does not show correctly, then try to set it correctly in your video playback software.Inputs are DVI-D, DisplayPort and VGA. Has a USB hub with 4 outputs. Has no HDMI input, which is fine for most office use. It's not intended to be a gamer or hobbyist or home user monitor. It's an office / work / business monitor.Comes with cables for power, USB, VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort.Have not done a color calibration yet. Factory default colors are ok. ZR24w supports sRGB color profiles. The included stand allows tilt, pan, height and rotation adjustment. It's well designed. To raise the height, press down on the top of the stand or monitor while simultaneously pressing the height adjustment release button at the back of the stand. It may take some wiggling, but it works. The monitor has VESA 100 mounts, and the latching coupler can be removed from the stand and monitor and used on a VESA mount, or the monitor can be mounted directly to a VESA mount. Be careful to not use screws that are too long with a VESA mount. For this high quality and high resolution, the price under $400 is excellent. The monitor is made by in China by Tatung. Paid about $370 plus shipping from Provantage.

People have reviewed this screen up and down so I'll keep mine short. In short: I agree with all the positive reviews.I've now had this screen for over two years and am still extremely happy with it. It's sharper than most screens, brighter, colors are more accurate, and the design is elegant. It's a little thick in depth, but I don't really care about that because even if it were thin, the stand would take up that space anyways. Anybody who sees my screen compliments it, to this day. I also like the fact that the stand allows you to position the screen however you want without having to adjust the stand itself. If you're thinking of buying a quality screen, this is definitely a great option. I do about 10 - 12 hours of work on it, daily, and my eyes never hurt. It's pretty good for gaming too, but it's not something I focus on. I do a lot of coding, 3D, cad, and regular computing with it and it helps to be able to see everything clearly. I'm actually only using about 4/5 for sharpness because 5/5 is too sharp!

I purchased the HP ZR24w monitor about 2 months ago, and I love it! It took the place of a Samsung 17" CRT that was still working fine after some 15 years (but the coating was starting to come off the screen surface). The ZR24w is evenly lit from edge to edge, and has no bad pixels or sub-pixels. Both text and photos are super-crisp.As stated in other reviews of both this monitor and similar ones, the brightness out of the box is set WAY too high for photo editing. The factory setting would probably be OK for spreadsheets and word processing, but for photo editing some setting changes were definitely needed. I don't have a hardware monitor calibrator, but was able to get the monitor image and the printed photo (Canon Pro9000 Mk II) to match really well after some trial and error. I also used some on-line tools to adjust gamma (my Gforce video card had it set to 1.0). Using the monitor's own menu I knocked the brightness down from the factory setting of 90% to 0% (that does not make the screen black, it just reduces the backlight brightness the most possible). It was still too bright, so I used the driver for the video card to reduce further by changing the setting from 100% to 88%. After the brightness was good, I made small prints with different color settings (on the monitor's menu). I found that the factory settings (255 for R, G, and B) made the screen image too cool compared to the prints. So I knocked back both the green and blue to warm up the screen image. I'm sure hardware calibration might do a better job, but I'm pretty pleased with what I could do without it, and I'm a fairly demanding guy when it comes to photo printing. Most of the IPS monitors are advertized to have a viewing angle of 170 degrees or so. I found that not to be the case. There is still much less contrast change when you move your head side to side or up and down compared to TN monitors (like laptop displays), but not 170 degrees. I don't find this to be a problem though. After looking at reviews of Dell, HP, and some other brands, I decided on the HP, and am very happy with it.

I spent several weeks researching monitors for my new workstation desktop. I do a lot of video and graphic design work (both print and web) with Adobe Creative Suite 5.5, so monitor size and color quality were important to me. My decision was finally narrowed down to the HP ZR24W and it has been a good choice. I have owned the monitor for 4 weeks and it has performed beautifully with no dead pixels and no color issues.SCREEN SIZE: The 24" size combined with the 16:10 aspect ratio really gives me a lot of screen real estate to work with. This is very beneficial with the video work, but also makes my photoshop and dreamweaver workflows much easier. When I am designing for web, I do have to be more conscious that most of my viewers will be viewing on smaller screens, and plan my layouts accordingly.COLOR: Colors are awesome and uniform across the screen. The IPS "grain" does take a bit getting used to. As stated in other reviews, the whites look a little "dirty". It is weird, and almost like you have a matte screen protector on the screen. After you get used to it, however, you don't notice it all and in reality the colors and whites are true to color (not "dirty" or misrepresented on the screen). That said, I LOVE the viewing angles, and would never go back to a non IPS. I have not color calibrated yet, but have tested against proof prints and it seems pretty well calibrated out the box (aside from brightness, see below).BRIGHTNESS (WARNING): This sucker is BRIGHT out of the box. The brightness, combined with screen size, gave me considerable eye strain the first few days. After reading tips online, I took the brightness down to 24% and that helped a lot.STYLE: While I was looking for performance over looks, I really like the style of this monitor. It is fairly thick compared to most modern day flat screen monitors, but the addition of aluminum trim on the size, combined with the fact that the frame on the front is only 3/4" thick, still gives it a sleek, modern look.

Getting the right monitor is a balancing act. My own monitor is a 27 inch 2560x1440 Apple Thunderbolt Display which I love but know is not for everyone due to cost and Thunderbolt requirement. I also have a 27 inch 1920x1080 HP 2711x which is cheap but has a poor picture and horrible viewing angles. In the middle, price wise, I bought this 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor for my wife, mainly because that is the maximum resolution supported by her 4 year old Mac Mini, and I have been pleased with the choice. At a higher resolution and smaller size than the 2711x, text is smooth and clear, while the IPS panel gives great viewing angles, and the colors have fine saturation without being cartoonlike. It's comparable in picture quality and brightness to the more expensive Thunderbolt display and leaves the cheaper monitor in the dust.On the negative side, USB power management is too aggressive. I really don't want to power down my USB devices if I turn off the monitor. I ended up not using the built in USB hub, this contrasts with the Thunderbolt which has USB, FireWire, Ethernet, a camera, a microphone, Thunderbolt out, speakers, a MacBook charging cable, and a subwoofer, most of which I use daily. So, this monitor is mainly about its excellent display and not accessories. I am happy it has a DisplayPort, in addition to DVI, so there is some future proofing there. The buttons and display LEDs are attractive, easy to find, and the configuration menu is easy to navigate. In general, if you want a real computer monitor, don't have special requirements and are willing to pay for quality, I think you will be more than happy with this beautiful device.

This is my primary screen in the office.. everyone there has a large and cheap panel these days but this one has a more vivid and colorful display.Pros:- Excellent visual quality, noticeable better than common TFT screens- Built-in USB hub for easier access to ports (no bending under the desk)- Very bright; important when you have a windowed office.- Screen rotates to Portrait position when neededCons:- Flourescent backlight generates noticeable heat on top and in back- Can't seem to get it perfectly level when rotating back to Landscape orientation. The stand has a mechanical detent that is slightly off-level so I have to play with it a bit to become level.Verdict:Very nice screen but today I would look for an IPS screen with LED backlighting.

I have connected to my MacPro, both the Apple Cinema Display and this one, and I have to say this is by far much better, the colors are great and looks really solid and professional. The SIPS pannel and the mate screen make the ZR24W the best choice for professional

Ужасно

I bought this monitor because I had read good things about it. For a while it worked fine.Nine months after I bought it the monitor went into sleep mode and did not come out of it. The USB ports no longer were recognized by my computer. The only way the monitor would work was to hook it up via VGA. To make sure it wasn't a problem with my computer, we hooked it up to a different computer. It was the monitor.Contacted HP and after a fight with customer service, they sent another one. Had it three days and the monitor went into sleep mode and the USB ports are no longer recognized by my computer. It is now hooked up via VGA, which is the only way it will work. Again, we tried it with another computer, it was the monitor. Not sure whether we will try customer service again or just go with a different company.

Плохо

The monitor itself is good. The response time feels OK.Could be five stars of not two things:1) One thing which keeps bugging me is the electric "flickering" sound, like something is wrong with the power. It appears when the monitor starts for zero to 20 seconds and generally doesn't return once it goes away. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature though.2) No HDMI input, only VGA, DVI and DisplayPort. And HDMI => Display Port cable doesn't work for legal reasons which I hate too much to go into any details. Basically, had to get an extra video card for my desktop to have the monitor connected via a non-VGA cable.

I was very happy with my previous monitor, Samsung LCD SyncMaster P2370. Alas, I wanted to install it on a monitor stand but it doesn't support the VESA standard mount. So, my search began for a worthy replacement. In my search I tried a Viewsonic, I considered the Dell UltraSharp. The picture on the Viewsonic was OK but the screen would not completely fill with the desktop image. Also, I mistakenly ordered 10:8 (HD) aspect ratio instead of 10:9 (1920 x 1200). You see, the Samsung 2370 had spoiled me. Trying a new HP I borrowed from work (with its VESA compliant mount), I discovered how solid it was. I found the ZR24W had the specs I needed. Purchased from B&H because Amazon doesn't sell this unit directly.Upon hooking up the new HP ZR24w I was impressed. The blacks are black and the screen is super crisp at its native 1920 x 1200 resolution. I didn't do much adjusting - I'm not the color calibrating type - but it's plenty bright and you may want to play with the OSD. I enabled Dynamic Contrast Ratio and cut back some brightness. Hooking it up to my new Dell Latitude with Win7 Enterprise OS, the laptop did not recognize the higher resolution. Installing drivers from the supplied CD did not seem to work. I downloaded latest from HP's website and then the laptop recognized the correct (higher) resolution. Makes a huge difference.I'm very happy with this monitor and surprised that I am now an HP customer.

I purchased the ZR24w after looking for a good 24" screen to replace my 21.5" Samsung LCD. I also purchased the Dell U2410, and the HP 2511x. The ZR24w was the best of the three.Pros: - The screen is sharp and easy to read at 1920x1200. This is a good resolution for a 24" screen and you will appreciate the extra vertical space with a 16:10 ratio.- Color is great (after using a pre-calibrated profile from TFT Central). Out of the box the screen needs some work. Viewing conditions vary, and so will your calibrated settings.- Clean easy to read text. Images / video look great.Cons:- Size is larger than most modern displays (in terms of depth). The monitor on the HP stand will set the screen a few inches closer to your face than a normal LCD would. I have limited space on my desk and would like to be able to push this monitor a few inches back. The design of the stand makes this impossible, this is my one complaint about the product.- Grain... This is something I noticed on both the Dell U2410 and the ZR24w. I thought it would bother me at first, but to my surprise after using the monitor for 4 days I no longer notice it at all. Calibrating the display and setting the correct brightness and contrast levels really helps here. I no longer see it. If it bothers you out of the box, correct the brightness settings and give it about a weeks worth of use.Other Thoughts:- Would like to see a card reader on this display like on theU2410.- The screen is good for gaming (to me). I am a casual gamer and don't notice any problems.- I would choose this display over the U2410 (having owned both). This monitor costs less and is getting much better reviews compared to the U2410. Keep in mind that the U2410 is a wide color gamut screen and not applicable to your average consumer. My U2410 suffered multiple problems out of the box which seem to be pretty common.
