This printer would be great if we could use anything other than regular paper in it. It chokes on photo paper. It chokes on anything thicker than regular paper. You end up wasting as much paper and ink as you use on good prints. The rear feed is a joke. You can't even get regular paper to feed straight. Also, as with most inkjets, the ink costs are ridiculous. I'm buying a color laser (maybe QMS magicolor) and will order my photo prints online (it's cheaper and better).

I've been using a Canon BJC-250 for the past 5 years. I go Windows XP and the Canon doesn't work anymore. I was forced to buy a new printer. I saw the DPI resolution on this printer, which is the same as any other printer costing much more than this one. This was a tremendous change for me! I have never seen a better image come out of a printer in my life! Very detailed, very flowing. There are some exceptions to the printing. Buildings that are smaller can actually look blotchy on the photo paper, while water turns out perfect. Also, when printing out multiple pages, I've had the printer actually jam quite a few times. I've used maybe 20 pieces of paper, and 4 have jammed, two of them in a row. Other than these incidents, it does turn out to be a very worthy printer for the price. It is XP compatible and can be hooked up with the computer still on. You are not forced to buy the USB cable. If you already have a cable for your LPT Printer port, it will work also. I am using the LPT port. The printer is also quite large for what I'm used to (see dimensions). Make sure you'll have enough room for it on your desk. Paper loads from the bottom, not the top like my old printer, and can hold up to 100 sheets. This makes it easier than having to constantly reload the darn thing. After a few weeks, the jamming has stopped. Maybe the printer just needed to be broke in. You must install both ink cartridges with this printer (black and color). This is also new to me, with the Canon I had to constantly change cartridges; another perk from HP. The printer also takes quite a while to "warm up." Instead of just hitting the print button and watching it print, it takes maybe 1-2 minutes (depending on how long it has sat idle) to warm up before printing. It is quite loud when warming up and loading the first sheet of paper. After the first sheet is loaded, it's *amazingly* quiet. (Remember, I used to have a 1998 Canon! This is super cool by my standards!) The speed is something to be proud of, as well. Although warm up time can take a little bit longer, after it gets going, it's running very well! A nice high DPI photograph can take up to 1 minute to print at about 800dpi. I haven't tried it any higher yet. Black pages... maybe 10 seconds, if even that!! I changed my rating from 4 stars (on March 17) to 5 stars (on March 21) because the paper jams have stopped. Don't think you need a new printer? For this price, you deserve one anyways! Order one now!

I bought this printer mainly to print larger scale photos for personal use. I originally considered at the Canon S9000 and Epson 2200 but was mortified when I learned the cost of operating them. Even though the in tanks are small, I've printed about 25 full color 8x10 photos and 5 11x17s and the ink tanks are still about 45 percent full. That makes it a lot more economical than photo services and the other printers. I was skeptical about it only having three colors, but it has provided good results thus far. I'm certain that if you did a side-by-side comparison with a magnifying glass, you could see a difference, but at a normal viewing distance, the photos turn out beautifully. On the downside, I spent the best part of the first weekend I owned this printer trying to get their XP driver to work, only to find out on Monday when their tech support is in that they are aware that their XP drivers are deficient, and as a work-around, I should use the XP mini driver. The XP mini driver works ok, but doesn't give you full functionality and with the graphics program I use, doesn't print precisely the size that the print dialog box says it is going to print. The unit sells off the shelf as being able to print 13x19 format, and its carriage is certainly capable, but whoever did HP's WEB page says it is an 11x17 printer and only list up 11x17 paper in the supplies section for this printer. After a bunch of searching, I was able to find 3 types of 13x17 photo paper in their business pages, but these do not specify compatibility with the 1220cse.Fortunately, I will not be using card stock, or I'd probably have another thing to gripe about.Bottom line, if you are looking for an economical large format printer for pictures on your wall at home, this one is less expensive up front, ...

I was interested in the novelty of being able to print select pics from my Canon A20 digital camera (a great camera too). I read the reviews on the HP 100, the 130's "little sibling". I tried the HP 100 out at home and although the printer was okay (meaning the concept was pretty cool), I was not impressed with the printing quality. So, I returned the HP 100 and bought the HP PS 130 --what an amazing difference. Truly, the HP PS130 produces professional quality 4 x 6 and wallet size prints. There was no comparison between the output in the 130 compared to the 100. The difference is that the HP 130 has 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution, whereas the HP 100 is 2400 x 1200 dpi. The printer is relatively quiet, is pretty fast and easy to use. One drawback: I can see where having a screen to view the picture would be helpful, but it is not crucial. Also, like the other reviews for the other photo printers mention, this is not the most cost effective way to print 24 pictures because the paper and the printer cartridge are not cheap, but the ability to print out the pics you want almost instantaneously is very rewarding. I have not yet tried out the HP software that is included, nor have I connected the printer to my computer. The literature with the printer indicates that when connected to the computer the resolution on the 130 decreases from 4800 x 1200 to 2400 x 1200 dpi which, if true, would be unfortunate. For now, I have no need to attach the printer to my computer, so I have nothing to worry about. Good luck, and read the Amazon.com reviews, I have found them very helpful.

First, the good news: HP supports this printer, so you can get paper and ink for many years to come. And it prints borderless 4x6 prints in a matter of seconds.Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad news about this printer. First, the color tone is poor. Second, the drivers are not fully XP compatible, which caused some instability for me. Third, the card reader is virtually worthless. It can take an hour just to read DPOF prints. Four, the per-print cost is moderately high. For the same money, buy the vastly superior Hi-Touch Imaging dye-sub printers, which produce better prints at a lower cost per-print.

My HP 890C inkjet printer stopped feeding properly some months ago. I had extra ink cartridges on hand, and they're expensive, so I continued to use it, even though I was hand-feeding just about everything. It was a rare occasion when it fed two sheets of ordinary copy paper consecutively. So, finally I gave up in disgust and bought the Photosmart 7150 Inkjet a few days ago.It feeds well, and tonight I just finished printing 32 old family black and white photos, four copies of each,4 up on each 8.5" X 11" sheet of Kodak glossy photopaper. The quality is superb! At least as good as the prints you would expect from a quality photo shop. I should say that, on the best quality setting, the printer is extremely slow. But the quality makes the wait worthwhile. Also, it assists in the drying for the picture to come through slowly.I had a heck of a time getting 4 up of the same picture on a single sheet. Finally, I went to Corel Draw 8 (Corel Photo Paintdidn't help) and imported 4 copies of the same picture and enlarged them to fill the sheet. It worked fine, and now I know how to do it in the future. The printer is inexpensive, and I hope it continues to feed properly. The best printer I ever had was an HP Laserjet, which I bought in 1989. My experience with that one keeps me coming back to Hewlett Packard. I've had three or four printers since then, and except for the 890C they've all met my expectations. Now, if only they would come up with a printer that was fast, as well as capable of good quality...Joseph Pierre

I bought this 920C printer about a year ago. Until now, it still performs good. I love the printing results, the small size (6 point) characters are sharp and readable, the pictures are sharp and smooth, even with normal mode. I found that it's far better than my old 820Cxi. The dimension is so compact and lightweight, so I don't need more space to put it near my computer. However, the weakness of this printer is its integrated color ink tank. You have to replace it if there is one empty color, while the others are still half full. Honestly, I prefer the separated color ink tanks because they are more friendly to my wallet. Hope, in the near future, HP will make deskjet printers with separate ink tanks in economy prices without reducing quality.

When I first set up this printer and printed out a photo, the first thing I noticed was how fast it was. In less than 2 minutes, I had an excellent quality 4 x 6. I had been using an Epson Stylus Photo 780 before, and it took 10-15 minutes just to print a 4 x 6. It also used a lot of ink. This printer is very ink efficient. It's perfect for digital camera users because it has a built-in memory card reader that accepts 5 different types of memory. You can use it to print directly from memory cards or from your computer. One improvement they could make on a future model should be to try to eliminate paper jams, because they are somewhat frequent. A model that would print 5 x 7 would also be nice. Overall this printer is one investment worth its small price.

This is our 2nd HP printer. Only to say, we regret buying it. The 1st HP printer, was purchased over 3 yrs ago. It's an 1100c series color printer that is on a "higher" end of the printer line.Buying a G3 PowerBook had us looking for a USB compatible printer. At first, we purchased the LexMark Z55, which worked GREAT for almost year, before a faulty part went out. *(we do a LOT of printing). So, thinking about how a former HP product was great, we got this one at the store when we were in a rush. We didn't even look at the demo. BIG MISTAKE!1. SPEED, was the first disappointment - way too slow. LexMark speed is way better, even for photo quality pics. The ole 1100c is faster than this one too.2nd disappointment was HP changed the printer cartridges. These are NO LONGER refillable. They have metal clips on the sides, and there is no way to refill them.3. There aren't enough printing options available. Sometimes I wanted to makes changes that I could do easily with the older 1100c series printer. I found that the options change depending what program I am on, therefore making it more confusing. (to go into detail on this subject, I'd have to write a long long explanation). Basically, it was a LET -down, I don't even want to keep this thing. I'm better off buying a different printer, with refillable inks. Ink is just too EXPENSIVE to be purchasing and not refilling.4. When the Black ink starts running low. It Basically makes you change the cartridge. It doesn't allow you to run the printer on low black ink. The machine stops functioning, and the big ink light blinks, and sends a message to your computer, saying STOP! Color inks run low, and the computer allows you to function with low color, but different story on the black ink.

Like other HP printers, this one is no different. It works for a few months and then will not feed paper properly. It has three paper feed paths, none of them feed the paper straight. If you are only printing 8.5x11 text documents this would do you just fine, otherwise dont waste your money.

I've had this printer for about 8 months, and I am finally happy with it in general. When I first set it up, it was via parallel connection on a PC running Windows ME. Total set up time was 10 minutes and text and graphics printing was very good. However, loading photo paper, which requires some tricky maneuvers and varies among the different sized papers, is enough to discourage a lot of photo printing, especially on 4" x 6" paper, which uses a separate tray for loading and is finicky on a good day. I then moved the printer to my laptop and tried to set it up via the USB port. This was rougher and required uninstalling the printer and then reinstalling it and selecting USB connectivity. Not a big deal except nowhere does it say to do that; you just figure it out by trial-and-error. The big deal came when I upgraded my laptop's OS to Windows XP. The original driver for ME or even Windows 2000 does not work with XP. Finding the driver via the HP website was the run-around of a lifetime; their FTP site in the U.S. was so overloaded that you'd only be directed to that site at weird, off hours. Otherwise, you were redirected to the Twilight Zone. My success finally came when I located (via a Google search) HP's Euro FTP server, which at midnight here was quite responsive. Recently, the driver has been easier to access (I know, because I just had to reformat my C: drive). Print quality remains quite acceptable and the noise level is very good. Ink usage is a bit high, but as I rarely am in the mood to print photos anymore, it's less of an issue. Overall, this is a great all-around printer for the money.

This printer is great. Separate tray for 4x6 photo paper, so you can easily switch paper sizes. In fact, I was having so much fun with it, I ended up getting a higher megapixel camera so that I could print even bigger, better pictures. I am surprised by how many pictures and other graphics I have printed and still haven't had to change the ink cartridges (separate photo ink and color cartridges) Can exchange the photo ink cartridge for a black ink only one, which is a nice feature. Unless you want to print your pictures without a computer, this is definitely one to check out. If you want to print without a computer, check out the other versions of HP PhotoSmart printers. However, I prefer editing the pictures slightly first (i.e. cropping, color enhancement, brightness or contrast) and then printing them out.

If you are looking for a home photo-quality printer (not pro quality- but good enough form me), for a decent price. This is your printer.I can print 8X10's that come out with amazing results. I even use my scanner to print from the negatives and the photos print out better than my local store (I am not comparing to 1-hour development, I am comparing a local specialty store with an amazing reputation).Just make sure to use (and of course set the printer) to high quality photopaper, and you will see amazing results.I bought this printer a few years ago and have never had a problem with it. I don't know if the newer versions are better, but I can't say a bad word about this printer.

This is my third HP and the results just keep getting better. The 7150 is stylish and well designed. The printer has a 4 x 6 photo tray that allows 20 sheets of photo paper to be loaded and printed in a batch mode directly from HP's excellant photo printing / album layout software. Even with the 20 sheets of 4 x 6 paper loaded you can still print on regular paper via a lower paper tray. Prints using the photo color cartridge are stunning. I have to say I sold my Epson 820 in no time flat and even made my Canon friend blush when he saw how incredible the prints are. As always the big advantage to HP is the quality. These printers don't jam, don't need head cleaning and don't require tweaking to get the results you see on screen.

Put the old camera & film in the attic for nostalgia sake! Get a 2 MP digital or higher and print your photos with this printer! The 4"x6" tray is a plus for album & framed prints and the 8x10 tray is fine for multiple prints on one page (called albums). I use desktop publishing programs to create collages of pictures as well. The photo print quality of the HP is magnificent! People who see my photos cannot believe a printer produced them with such vivid color and clarity. I have made "memories" CD's using my cdwriter and imported background music for the "slide shows". The HP software does it all - follow the directions. User friendly and the ink goes a long way! Don't pass on this one - I paid ... only 3 months ago and it's worth much more -it's on sale so run for it! Print only what you like and you will LOVE what you print!

HP has done it again! This little baby is, by far, the nicest printing product offered. Forget the 230 and its LCD screen. This one will do the same thing .... The menu system is foolproof and the photo quality output is beyond approach. While it's limited to 5x7 output, it's perfect for the average photographic need. Combined with the Sony DSC-S85 (or 75), you have a perfect combination to get top quality prints quickly and effortlessly. And, by the way, it reads all existing media cards and you don't even need a PC to use it (although it's USB-compatible and comes with the necessary PC software).

I evaluated a lot of printers on the market since I was looking to print photos from my digital camera. I also wanted that the printer be able to handle text too because when all is said and done, you might need the printer for printing simple text too.At the end of my evaluation, I found that Epson was extremely good for printing photos only while the HP was very close to the Epson in terms of graphics, but was way ahead in terms of text printouts. Also HP has a reputation. So HP it was; And till today, I have no regrets. Its ultra quiet & pretty fast (Not earth shattering, but then we are talking of a few minutes here and there, not a big deal). Not one photo has come out to be smudgy or bad. Every print is crisp even on normal paper and when printed on HP photo paper, the quality is just awesome. And yes, everything has a bad side to it and the 920c is no exception. There is hardly any usefull printing software bundled with it. You need to shell out more bucks for a decent software to manipulate images and print them.So if you are on the lookout for a great printer at a good price (Not exactly a bargain), then go for the 920c.

As for photo printing, I take alot of photos and print them out for family and friends. They all seem to have the same comment...."Your photos are so colorful and clear, who develops them"? They can't believe I printed them out myself.I recommend this printer to everyone who wants quality, without a hefty price tag! Enjoy!

I have owned quite a few printers, including Epsons, Ravens, Lexmark, and two Canons, but none of them come even close to the HP DeskJet 1220 C (Cse). Even my last Canon, a BJC-5100, which cost me quite a bit, couldn't compare to the solid performance that the 1220 delivers, and I suspect the HP will be around longer than the 10 months the 5100 lasted. After ten months the 5100 began ruining paper, leaving large bands of ink all over print jobs and even after a meticulous cleaning, it never returned to proper working status. My first experience with a 1220 Cse was at a restaurant that I worked at used it to redo their menus. Without complaint the 1220 Cse churned out 60 copies of the 8 page menu- with no flaws such as streaking. The only mistakes were ours and we had to print out another 480 pages with corrections-using the same ink cartridges. It can be hooked to your PC (or Mac) via either a serial or USB cable, (neither of which are included). After a quick software install and an alignment is done, the 1220 Cse is ready to go. The 1220 Cse exceeded all of our expectations- both in the shear quality of print jobs, even in things like our menus which used a great deal of color in the images and text, but also with its flawless performance. Now that I have one of my own, I am delighted that it continues this trend in the home environment. It is a big printer, and it takes up a fair amount of desk space, but that is small price to pay for a gem of machine like this. It can do 2,400 x 1,200 dpi images with the right paper, and having seen that in action, I am even more convinced that this is perhaps the best small office/home printer ever made. It does everything my wife and I want- beautiful black and white text and stunning color. Plus, it is exceptionally well made- worth the extra money if you were perhaps thinking of getting a less expensive machine. That quality will go a long way to the machine's longevity. This, coupled with the fact that ink cartridges seem to last forever make it an excellent value.

I love this printer. Finally, a printer that can handle large format. I can do an 11 x 17 poster or you can even go larger if you have the paper. I'm also able to print pages to my 11 x 17 leave behind piece that I leave with clients. The visuals are crisp and clear and it's faster than any printer I've ever had in the laserjet category. But I couldn't afford a color laserjet that handled 11 x 17. So for the price, this one is awesome. I used to have my leave behinds done at Kinkos but now I do them myself. Even with the ink costs, I save a bundle. And with the double ink cartridge, I don't have to change it all that often.

I was looking for an inexpensive printer for my 19 year old to take to college for printing term papers, etc. Having just begun to use a digital camera the HP 920c caught my eye because of its ability to print photo quality images. The price was also right. I decided to try it out and I am really impressed with the results. It was easy to install (with my son's assistance, of course,) and my photos were as good as the ones I paid for. I have decided to keep this printer at home and send our old Deskjet 682c to school with my son. Now we're both happy. My only caveat is that with the cost of paper and ink cartridges and my time (this printer is not ultra fast) its still cheaper to send out for my digital prints, but there's more immediate gratification and more fun if I do it myself.

While the print quality is great, this printer is not economical. A person is likley to spend as much on HP ink cartridges each year as they do on the printer's purchase price. Further, this printer has an electronic glitch that renders it lifeless, apparently just about when the warranty expires. This means that you might expect to replace the printer every year (I have owned 2 and a colleague has gone through 1 as well). Therefore, if you use this printer to just half of its stated limits (like 2500 pages per month), you might need to discontinue annual contribtions to your IRA in order to fund this money hungry beast. I must find another solution. A good printer for casual users only.

I read the other reviews and bought a HP 920C printer with reluctance since two HP 600 series printers each broke down in less than a year without using them much. Would the printer work with Windows 95? Will I end up upgrading the whole system before I would otherwise need to upgrade? The only problem was that a setting (Raw Spool-whatever that is) needed to be changed. Instructions popped up, were easy to follow, and worked. The print has a clean sharp appearance. Ink dries instantly. It's quick and quiet and priced right. This dinosaur system isn't extinct yet. The printer works fine with Windows 95. I haven't had to upgrade yet.
