Well, I have found the Gigabyte is in fact better. To be fair, it would well be a better binned CPU but my 3600 on the Gigabyte generally runs the cores 100MHz higher than on the MSI. Running a CPUz stress test on the MSI, all cores stabilise and run at 3975. On this board, 4075! Also, more of the cores boost higher and several will hit 4200 as opposed to just one - and that's quite rare - on the MSI. Using the standard Auto OC on Ryzen Master will also mean that the core boost on this board will actually hit 4400! Setting the same Auto OC on the MSI results in no difference at all. Wow. To top it all, the max CPU voltage is lower on the Gigabyte than the MSI. For info, I have the latest BIOS installed on both.
So, it's a great performer. Functionality wise, it's also a pretty good board. Two NVME sockets as opposed to the one on the MSI. The RGB lighting is also far superior, if that's your thing. The BIOS is perfectly good too. The only downside for me is the lack of USB-C. The software utilities are hit and miss. SIV (which controls fan speeds) is really good. The RGB control software is just hit and miss.
So, really happy with the board - more so than the more expensive and recommended Tomahawk, It could be the CPU but if I could swap out my Tomahawk for another one of these, I would.
At first there was system instability but this was fixed by changing the RAM. It seems this board is sensitive to the specific model of RAM and I recommend checking that your RAM is on the board's support list before buying. I switched from Corsair CMK16GX4M2D3600C18 (not on support list) to Corsair CMK16GX4M2Z3200C16 (on support list).
I would recommend upgrading to the WiFi(ac)/Bluetooth5 model because I've just bought a separate PCIe card for this and it cost more than the motherboard upgrade would have done.
I have also encountered some POST failures (alternating CPU and DRAM LEDs) but these stopped after I selected "Load Optimized Defaults" in the BIOS and made only minimal changes afterwards (enabling XMP and the "quiet" fan profile).
This board boasts 3200mhz (oc)
And yet after activating xmp and setting my memory to 3000mhz it's kept crashing my computer I went through alot of solutions including reinstalling windows.
After all all the specs said the shouldn't be a problem.
I have it a shot and lowered my memory speed to 2700mhz.
And this has stabilized my rig.
I'd appreciate accurate specs when I'm buying product not guesses.
I feel as though the 3200 MHz oc was slapped on there to sell the board in the hopes that people would not bother to overclock
1. The RGB for my Corsair fan was very difficult to connect, it has to line up 100% or it just won't go in.
2. There are small orange accents on the motherboard, which can detract from a different colour scheme. However, when looked at at a glance or through tempered glass, it's barely noticeable.
3. There is no RGB inside the word 'Aorus' at the top left of the motherboard, even though it has clear plastic, which confused me at first. However that's a very minor point.
4. I'm not sure if it was the case or the motherboard, but it was quite difficult to get into position in the case. This may be due to the fact that the IO shield comes attatched.
5. The software for the RGB's (RGB Fusion 2.0) is a little confusing
However, the motherboard was easy to add components to, and looks great. Definitely a good purchase.
Second order works correctly. Easy to install, BIOS is adequate but overclocking can be a bit of a pain. RGB hue varies MASSIVELY, with different lighting areas ranging from very yellow to very blue for supposedly 'white' setting. Combined with the RGB software being trash and no working alternative, would NOT recommend for RGB enthusiasts. Buzz on audio output has forced me to use my front panel audio jack.
It's a decent option for a reasonable price, but would only recommend if you have little concern for RGB
Only downside (and this is minor) is the slight inconsistency of some of the gigabyte software- e.g. sometimes rgb Fusion doesn't pick up all of my components.
As expected the XMP profile is incredibly easy to set up with a drop down tab allowing the approriate speeds of the RAM you own.
Only 'issue' is the unnecesary plastic they put near the IO, in my case I ahd to remove two fans just to fit this in, as the plastic excedes the standard height meaning it wouldn't natively fit in.
All in all great board 9/10 would recommend
Ciao e buona scelta
