I rarely review anything I buy on Amazon, and I buy a lot of things. I love this mower. It is cute, lightweight, easy to assemble, quiet, effective, and pleasant to use. I got a light workout that was more fun than a treadmill and used zero fossil fuels. I could hear the birds while I mowed. Not only did I not use the fossil fuel for the treadmill, I used none to mow, got fresh air, and didn't harm the environment, or harm my lawn by making the divots the landscapers make with their "zero turn" mower. The dogs didn't bark, there are no dead spots now where the landscapers refuel and spill gas (and later deny it!), no bad smells, no noise, no electricity. The grass is mowed at a height that is healthy for it. It mowed the weeds without too much trouble (sometimes requiring two passes). Having said this, I garden with native plants and have a bahia lawn, meaning this isn't a manicured St. Augustine yard in a subdivision. I got tired after mowing one section of my lawn, which took a half hour. I will be able to get my lawn mowed, in sections, once a week, 1/2 hour at a time. It doesn't look like carpet or velvet - it looks like a freshly cut, country house lawn, and is beautiful to me. The birds are happy, and are already searching through the clippings I left today. I will never go back to a gas mower! PS someone napped in my very quiet house while I mowed!

I bought this mower in June of this year after I moved to a townhouse with a fairly small yard. It's definitely a high-quality piece of equipment. It is also very light, which is important since I usually carry it from my front to my back yard and back. I also purchased the bag, which I use every time. However, the mower does have limitations. First, it doesn't cut all the grass on one pass. Two passes are often needed. Secondly, the bag misses a lot of grass - obviously, it has no suction. Thirdly, the blade height is adjustable, but the maximum height isn't very high. In summary, nice reel mower, but with limitations.

Very easy to set up and use, adjustable height for grass. Rolls easily over my Marathon grass for being a manual mower, but you do get a bit of a workout and use of your back muscles (which is fine with me). Part of my yard is invaded with Bermuda and Zoysia grass-does not work well on this type of grass but I think that was mentioned in the description. I have not yet purchased/used the optional bag to collect clippings, but am thinking about it as leaving clippings every time may lead to excessive thatch. Overall great product!

I wasn't happy to pay $174 for this. I have a 5.5 HP Toro sitting in my garage that Home Depot can't locate part numbers for and a lot of $ spent on guessing. Ive had it 2 years. Bought a $150.00 lawnmower that won't start after 2 mowings because it has a cheap plastic starter assembly that's loose. I had a reel lawn mower a few years ago that was just too flimsy.I am desperate, as I had company coming. Assembled this as soon as it got here, today. It took minutes to assemble and...OMG!!! It works soooo well. It was less trouble than the lawn mower. It's not self-propelled, but I just leaned on the thing and it went.

I was very satisfied with my purchase. I looked at a lot of different options before stumbling upon this one. I have had it for over a month and I am able to maneuver it quite easily on my small lawn. I don't know how it will hold over time but it is great now. It is light and has a sharp blade. I usually only need to mow it two times to get an excellent cut. This only takes me about 20 minutes at the most as I lawn is only about 25 X 10. If you have a small lawn and don't feel a motorized lawn mower is necessary, I highly recommend this one.

The mower was childishly easy to assemble and very easy to handle. The person who loves it the most is my 9 year old grandson who was sure I bought it for him - "Oh boy! Now I can MOW!" I bought it to use on my front lawn when it is getting long and my son-in-law is not ready or able to mow with the riding mower. That way, the front always looks neat and tidy. I consider this mower one of my best on-line purchases!

I chose this product carefully to maintain my spit of St. Augustine lawn in Florida between the lawn service's twice-a-month summer visits, and it has been a joy. Five minutes once a week, no noise (except for the plastic wheels on the driveway as it comes out of the garage), no gas, and clean sharp cutting met my needs and made me happy :)
Don't let your twentysomething borrow it, though - it was returned to me by him with weeds and reeds around the reel, and the blades dragging on the ground, which I didn't discover until I pulled it out of the garage down the driveway. Blades damaged and screws missing - have to figure out what to do now :(
In sum - great push reel mower - noisy plastic wheels - don't let your kid borrow it - they don't know how it works :(

Fast shipping. Simple to put together. Very light and easy to push.
Although.. not so much in tall grass.
Bought this for my wife who can't start the gasser. She always talked about how much she loved using one of these "back in the day".
Apparently the memory meant more than the work. She used it once so far and had to go over the lawn several times in different directions to get it all cut. If she kept up with the cutting... every other day or so during the growing season, it would probably go better.
Won't get close to walls/other obstacles, maybe 4 in or so.
Out of the box, one of the blades seemed to be rubbing the cutter blade more than the others... and they are not individually adjustable (AFAIK).
All in all a decent product.

Very pleased with the cordless mower it had to be shipped by container to AUST as Amazon will not ship this item to Aust which is a bit poor. There was one screw missing from the mower when it arrived which I had to replace when I assembled the unit. The mower is light and does all our lawns on one battery charge it cuts beautifully.
I purchased a second battery as was not sure what the life would be but no problems we probably have about the area of a singles tennis court of lawns. Also purchased a cordless Gardenea edge trimmer which works well but the plastic blade wears out very quickly and you would want to by a good supply if you got one of these.
We have a thick Buffalo lawm which I cut every two weeks.

Mower has plenty of battery power and cutting time. Cuts unevenly, often leaves random long grasses standing. Jams easily and shoots debris back at the operator. Glasses are a must when using this.

This battery works fine with the Gardena mower. It may seem expensive, but it is less expensive to use than lead-acid battery technology like my previous electric lawnmower used, because the lithium-ion battery has no problem with repeated charging and discharging. (I had to buy a couple of new lead-acid batteries every summer. So far, I've fully discharged and recharged one of my lithium-ion batteries about three dozen times with no noticeable degradation in performance.) And, when fully charged, this battery holds all of its charge for a few days even if not plugged into the recharger. I bought this battery as a spare, so when the battery that came with my lawnmower is discharged, I can continue mowing. (This battery is identical to the one that came with my lawnmower.)
This battery holds its charge so long that you can use just one charger, and charge each battery overnight and be ready for the weekend or whenever you mow your lawn. Each battery lasts for about an hour of mowing--slightly less for long or wet grass. You could mow about a third of an acre of grass with two batteries if the grass is dry and not too long.
This product probably deserves five stars, but I have not yet used it for a full season, so I'm not sure.

Just moving to Tucson and the desert from Florida, I'm adjusting to a relative postage stamp of a lawn. The Gardena 1430 is absolutely perfect. Easy to assemble and collapse, it's very light and maneuverable and mows quietly and effectively.

Gardena, while HUGE in other parts of the world, is just becoming available in the US. This mower was soundly engineered and beautifully constructed. It is what they say it is, does what they say it will do, and is worth every penny!

When I was young I mowed lawns using my grandfather's reel mower. As years progressed I moved on to the beasts of gas powered lawn care. The noise and pollution have caused me concern for some time. When my latest polluter needed major repair, I saw the Gardena in a New York Times article and orderd one. Silence, cleanliness, no pollution. BLISS. Please buy one and save us from the polluion of noise, hydrocarbons and waste.

Two washers and four nuts is all it takes to assemble this lawn mower - unlike a previous mower that sent me to a hardware store to buy wrenches. It was quickly done and out on my lawn in no time flat. Unfortunately, I did not raise the level of the cut the first time I cut grass with it, and my yard looked like it had a heinie - noticeably shorter than all of my neighbors' lawns - a big no-no in this community. The height adjustment is also straightforward and simple to do. It's a snap to push this baby all over my yard - it cuts great and putting it away in my shed is quite easily accomplished because it only weighs about 20 lbs. No grunting and groaning with this guy and I love the colors, too!

Really great product which cuts grass efficiently and easily. It also looks great and was incredibly easy to assemble. I feel good about cutting my lawn with a mower that runs with no electricity or gas, and barely any sweat!

Don't think this one will work for someone with several acres but for my small front and backyard it made cutting the grass enjoyable. In comparison to my last reel mower (Scotts Classic reel mower-better for large yards) it's light, easy to push/turn around, and easy to carry. My small front yard was done quickly and easily and I was able to carry the mower without any strain down my narrow walkway to the backyard. It's pleasing to look at and fits nicely into a tight spot in the garage. I can even fold it up for winter storage! One thing: when assembling, make sure bolts are nice and tight, otherwise they come loose somewhat and start to chatter during mowing. A great reel mower.

I am on my second season of owning this mower, and I still love it. Pros: lightweight, easy to maneuver, extremely quiet, sharp blade, blade stays sharp for years, low maintenance, unique color. Even my arm-strength lacking mom happily uses this mower (and she hadn't mowed a day in her life until now). There are a few cons to this mower, BUT that is to be expected from a reel mower, since they do have limitations. So, for those who have never used one: if your yard is very large- this may not be ideal, as it is more time consuming. If you tend to let your yard get overly long, this may not be a mower for you - while it can and does cut taller grass, it sometimes requires going over it twice - and it simply cuts, does not mulch. If you allow weeds to get out of control, keep in mind that this mower isn't fond of dandelions. You'll have to take a few swipes over them as well. You must also make sure to pick up sticks prior to mowing, or they'll get stuck in the blades.
So, if you maintain your yard fairly well, this is an AWESOME mower! I love being able to go out and mow while still hearing the birds chirp. When I'm finished, I'm NOT covered in green residue, smelling like gas and ready for a shower- I simply feel as though I've had some light exercise. I researched long and hard before buying a reel mower- this is along the lines of the Brill mowers in my opinion. Top of the line, and doesn't require annual sharpening as do many of the less expensive models.
Easy to store, as the handle can easily be disassembled.

If you look in the dictionary under mega-junk I'm quite sure this fertilizer spreader would appear as a picture.

I used it first with some fine grained fertilizer and it worked well. Later on, I wanted to use it on the grass with some fertilizer in small pellet form.
It did not work at all, it dispensed most of it at one side by the wheel and it became stuck over and over again. :/ It looked like I got a horrible distribution. I am giving it one more try before I just to it by hand again(which I am bad at :D). Really annoying, I just wanted at even distribution.
