Set up was a cinch! Was up and running in 30 minutes with 3 computers. The firware update for the router wasn't hard but does require some computer knowledge. Teamed with the DWL-G650 Network Card(firmware updated) I really don't see how it could get any faster. I actually tested the wireless connection compared to a direct cable connection and it was only .1 Mbs slower using wireless, which is amazing. Using Road Runner I was downloading 380KB/s wireless. As far as I can tell the range is outstanding. I am going through 3 walls and 30 feet right now and have excellent signal strength. I highly recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want to settle for average as this product is far from it. Well worth the money and seems to be very high quality! Great product D-link

It looks good, is fairly small, and was a breeze to set up. At first, when the computer was in the same room as the router, it was great. Super fast. When I moved the computer to the basement, it still worked fine at first. The basement is two floors down, but directly underneath the router. So the actual distance was only 20 feet at the most.The next day I couldn't get a signal at all. I tried rebooting the router and the computer. No luck. It would pick up a signal for about five seconds and then drop it. Then I disconnected/unplugged the 2.4GHz cordless that was on the same desk as the router. Voila! I got a signal with the link quality at 99%, and the signal strength at 70%. However, apparently that is not nearly as good as a 33.6k modem, as it took both Yahoo! and espn.com about 4-5 minutes to load up. Each. So, I took the router and NIC back. What was the point of that?I think that this router does exactly what it is billed to do. I also think that it would work great if it only had to go through one wall or floor. Two was too much. The equipment worked perfectly fine. My problem was that the technology just isn't good enough yet. At least, not without an external antenna.I'm waiting for the prices to drop on the 802.11g stuff.

Good points: Easy to setup, works right out of box, good range on wirelessBad points: It will randomly reboot, dropping all wired and wireless connections. I have ver C2 with firmware 2.42 and the problem persists.Until they fix this problem, I cannot recommend this product.

I have tried SMC, Netgear, and D-link wireless routers. I like the D-link most of the bunch. Their software is the best of the three. It has a little small and light AC power adaptor. The speed seems good and the range is good.Netgear has a sexier package--slightly smaller and more rounded but its is offset by having a HUGE, heavy brick of an AC Power Adaptor that weighs what seems like about four times the weight of the router. Netgear had about ten feet more range than the other two, but I actually travel with my wireless router and the huge adaptor doesn't compare well to D-links.The SMC has the worst software of the bunch. The one I'm using is a couple years old though so maybe they fixed that up in the newer versions. This router has a parallel printer port which I like alot so I use this one at home. Its range is the same as the D-link. Speed is slightly slower.In the end D-Link is clearly my favorite and the one I would recommend to anyone (unless they need a printer server).

I got the Dlink as a replacement for my Linksys BEFSR4 (non-wireless) which died during a lightening storm. At first look the User interface is confusing but I soon realized it was better organized for the new user. The routers DHCP didnt pick up my DSL ip so I had to hard code my ip and then flashed the 2.0 firmware. I would recommend everyone to upgrade their firmware to atleast 2.0. I set up WEP 256 right from the startThe Bad:1. It worked well with my Dlink 614+ card on one of my laptops, but I could not get the configuration utility to work on my main laptop. I finally got it working by hacking the windows registry, but Dlink Support are still clueless.2. I was in for more problems when I bought a US robotics wireless card, you would think that 802.11b would ensure smooth compatibility. I got the card all setup (had to reduce the wep to 128 bit as WEP 256 is not supported on this card.) The router seemed to detect the card as I could see the MAC address in the wireless status screen, but there was no ip and no link. I havent tried using any other cards but looks like there could be a compatibility issue.3. When setting my Virtual servers (port forwarding) I only set one custom port forwarding and when I tried to add one more it reported that it had "run out of space". But infact it allows me to add more settings on other pages.4. D-Link claims this device to be a router, but there is no way to statically route my connections along a particular path. I think thats essential because then I could share my wireless internet connection with anyone and not compromise my LAN. My LinkSys had this feature I dont know if the LinkSys Wireless router has this feature.5. Their support stinks6. No SNMP Support. My LinkSys router used to support SNMP (Simple network Management Protocol allows you to save logs on your computer) and SPI (stateful packet inspection rejects any packets whose connections dont originate from your LAN)The Good: 1. D-Link has the best warranty in the industry 3 years (My Linksys died in 1.5 years with a warranty of 1 year)2. The Dlink is fast I can get up to 22 MBPS3. The range is great.4. Has a feature by which you can save all your configuration changes on to a file great if you want to reset your router or change setting and experiment.5. Good buy for a novice user.6. Great price

Hey. I've got an apple airport card in my desktop dual g4. I plugged the router into my roomates pc and bingo my mac recognized it. end of story. However, this thing emits a really high pitched ring that is annoying to my ears. I dunno if anyone else gets this or not, or if it just happens with all these things. Anyway, just beware.d

I have had minor hang-ups since I bought this router. I bought it to be able to handle my VPN connections, my kids' gaming habits, file sharing programs, and all on wired OR wireless. These have all been working great for me. It is hard to believe that others are having so much trouble. Everything I've thrown at this thing it can handle.My wireless connection is great, right now we only have one laptop that can take advantage of the wireless but when a buddy comes over, or when we get more laptops I will be ready. The 22Mbps only works with other D-Link products of course, but you can buy them in a bundle. I have a DWL-650+ in my laptop and it gets constant 6-7Mbps when I am on the same floor as the DI-614+. When I am upstairs I get about 3-4Mbps. This is perfect because our ISP only gives us 1.5Mbps speeds.Setting everything up was fairly simple since all the features are right there in this one box. We all run Windows XP and which only made setting this up even easier. From within the web based configuration I was able to open specific ports to allow certain PC games and file sharing programs to work properly. There are even preset firewall rules that allow you to play MSN Game Zone and more, all you have to do is enable them. Another plus is that I can set up "Parental Controls" to disallow certain websites from showing up on my kids' computers. I can do this by entering in keywords I find inappropriate into the parental control area.This router continues to work flawlessly to this day.Our family isn't exactly novices when it comes to utilizing a router for all its uses but we sure are taking advantage of what this router can do. I am very impressed and somewhat proud that I can get this one product to do so much for us and at such a low price. This is definitely a great value.

I purchased this with a Dlink G650 to use with my Verizon ADSL service. The install application is fairly simple, but, when finishing up the install it would not assign an IP address. The wireless connected fine but what good is it if it can't access through the DSL modem. When I tried calling Dlink I waited over half an hour and gave up. I tried calling Verizon who said they could only help me if I had a Linksys :-(.. So I've been trying to call Dlink support without success in getting through.

Initially the system worked fine, the Network Card connected everytime and the firewall worked great. I had WEP and MAC filtering enabled (at the time the most security I could get for wireless). I took the laptop on a trip, and when I returned, nothing worked. I had to literally strip out all of the security settings and then slowly re-enable them. The laptop would at times drop off the network, not connect, do things that made no sense, since none of the settings had changed. Also their customer support wasn't at times the best of help either, they replied always by email, but it took two-three days for a reply. It just became too frustrating.

The Dlink router is good but not the wireless part. It use a 166 Mhz ARM 9 network processer which is state of art and can have a sustain throughput of 45mbps for the wired ethernet connetion. But only one bad, I mean real bad implementation. It uses a TI chipset could not hold on for three hours of continously transmittion at about 45% load. It means you need to reboot the router about every three hours if you are downloading all the time. It happen to all routers with TI chipset. such as USR and everyone is advertising that they can go 22mbps. If you use it as a wired router only which will be the best price and performance you can get.

As instructions stated, I installed the latest firmware for the router (which obviously is on their site) and followed instructions. NO BIG DEAL. IT WORKS!But if you are the type who think they know everything and don't take time to read instructions OR if you are not comfortable with computers, go with another brand because updating the latest firmware may not be for you.Signal strength fluctuates around 65% to 50% at 50 feet (my bedroom to the living room). Can't really notice a drop off in performance but maybe if I had a larger apartment :p Its an all around good cable router which allows me to check my email and surf the web without having to buy 100ft of Cat 5 cable.

I purchased this wireless router hoping to replace my 3 years old LinkSys router. However, after playing with it for several hours, I decided to return it because of the following (using firmware 2.18):1. MAC filtering: Can't make it for wireless only. Once it is enable, it is for both wireless and wired network. This is the MOST annoying part. I mean, why do I want to enable MAC filtering for my wired network???2. Router configuration: Very primitive comparing to my old LinkSys.3. Enable/Disable Wireless: It didn't really disable the wireless network(physically). It shoulded be called "allow/deny all" access instead. Once the wireless is "disabled", it does still broadcast the SSID. 4. No way of disabling SSID broadcast for security reasons.Finally, I have to give DLink credit for making upgrade firmware so easy (Web base), which is a big improvement comparing to my old linksys router.

I have this router along with the laptop adapter from D-Link. I can be anywhere in my home and get a strong signal. This was easy to set up and works seamlessly with my wifes laptop that uses 802.11b still. When she isn't isn't home or when her PC is off it seems to me that I can get slightly better transfer speeds. I am mainly concerned with everything working well across both "B" and "G" not so much with the speed capabilities.This router, like other D-Link products I've tried, has a simple and intuative interface that allows you to change a wide array of things so you feel more in control. Or you can just leave them as default and be on your merry way.For me, it has worked as advertised and it feels good. It isn't very often that you can get something this complex in features at such a low price, and on top of that so easy to use.

I was amazed at all the features this thing came with. Parental controls, MAC filtering, IP filtering, URL filtering, the usual NAT port forwarding, 256-bit WEP, blazing wireless speeds at about 8Mbps anywhere in my home, and more. I am definitely pleased with my D-Link DI-614+ and it's capabilities and over all performance. It has also been reliable enough to have made it through a couple small LAN parties I've held with a couple friends. We played all sorts of games online for hours on end and found no problems setting up the router to keep our computers safe and in working order for all games. I am also happy to report that the DWL-650+ and DI-614+ works good for online gaming on my laptop as well. I was able to play some counter strike with no increase in ping when compared to my wired PCs. I was very suprised and glad this didn't give me any problems in all of my situtations.I'd recommend this for gaming as you can see, and of course it has handled all of my normal actions like web surfing, playing java/shockwave based games, file sharing programs, and more. Another plus is that this router has great security and was rated stealth all on ports when I tested it online.

Hooked this up to my Mac G4, no software needed. Just remember to unplug your cable modem first, then power the modem, then power the router. Connects and reconnects without fail. I have been able to use an iBook with AirPort all over my house and outside. Also works fine with a Belkin USB Adapter on another floor.

I recently purchase the D-Link DI-614+. I had never set up a wireless network before, but found this really a snap to install. I had one problem with the installation, contacted D-Link support and they were very helpfull and solved my problem within minutes. Would recommend this product for ease of installation and operability.

The WEP Encryption did not work for either the 128- or 64-bit encryption. The laptop and wireless card I used worked just fine on another wireless network I set up, so this router was the problem. I called up D-Link's not-too-helpful tech support and received the suggestion that I try typing the encryption key again.

All you need is this router.It is a Firewall, DHCP server, wireless AP, 22Mbps speeds, 4 port switch (for up to 4 computers wired, more wireless), and it looks cool. Plus it all works out of the box.

Lots of features and the 22Mbps speeds on this router is what initially drew me to it. And what do you know, high speeds and a wide range of features is exactly what it gives me. I am more than pleased with this wireless router. I was able to keep my existing 3 PC wired network and have plenty of room to expand my network wirelessly without having to run wires every where. The range on this router alone covers my entire home and then some. I get good to great signal whether I am upstairs or downstairs with the router being downstairs. The features are great because I can shut off my kids' access to the Internet after 10pm on school nights without having to manually unplug them or tell them anything. So even when I am away or out for the night my kids wont be staying up late or getting into any trouble on the Internet. Very useful. I also have this currently working with my XBox to allow game play over the Internet, which is very entertaining.

I had this setup for a total of 2 days before I was ready to throw it out the window (fortunately, I was able to send it back to Amazon.com). Setup is the pits, range is terrible since you have to be right next to it for the card to have a connection, and there are better, more affordable productions on the market (Netgear!!) Good luck to you if you are brave enough to try this.

I bought a DE-614+ in USA and brought it to Santiago de Chile, where we are living now. It was impossible to configure, as my computer (Dell 8250) couldn't "talk" with it through the web browser; I tried a Liksys similar unit (BEFW11F4) without any difficulties.My problem is that I don't get any guarantee service in this country, as I bought it in the States; the local dealeer only responds for the units they sell. Reparing (if possible) or sending it back there is more expensive than buying a new one. Wasted money.

I first impressed with the number of features this router was capable of doing. For this price I honestly didn't expect so much from it. I just wanted a router to expand my wired network to wireless. After finding out what it can do I just had to have one.I brought this baby home, plugged in the power, plugged in my WAN connection, filled in the neccessary settings, upgraded the firmware, and the next thing I knew I was able to access the Internet with the greatest of ease. There are so many controls that come standard with this router I don't think I will ever use them all, but I am happy they are there. Well when my kids get older and start using the computers I can use the parental controls to restrict what they can access on the Internet. There is even a feature to only allow certain MAC addresses to have access the Internet so if my neighbor has an 802.11b card they can't use my Internet access without me knowing.Everything about this was fairly simple to set up thanks to the manual, and I would definitly recommend this to others.

Everything about the D-Link AirPlus DI-614+ is perfect, minus one important fact: there is very little information on teaching a home user how to setup the firewall and encryption feature. The manuals are a joke and the D-Link website is useless. Trust me on this. However, every other fact about the router is excellent. I just wish D-Link would provide more information on actual set-up features...
