Here's a quick recap after setting the router up. In short: extremely satisfied after first impressions.Many reviews/sites claim that this router is somehow incompatible with Macs. Not so. The router setup worked perfectly with a macbook, and offered everything I was looking for. I've had trouble with, for example, Linksys routers that don't play along with Safari, so I was a bit wary about the incompatibility warnings. Fortunately, they only seem to concern the software on the CD. I set the whole thing up through the web interface, so can't comment on the CD. Anyway, I was happy not to install any extra software on my laptop.In about 15 minutes, I had configured a dual-network wifi setup (one SSID for 2.4 GHz and another for 5 Ghz), DHCP settings (static ip for my server machine), and everything else I required. The web interface is good and fast. It doesn't try to be cute or gimmicky. Instead, it (at least so far) offers all the settings through a no-frills functional design. It also comes with better logging than I expected, which helped in setting up my NAS drive that didn't want to cooperate. (The problem was in the NAS drive, not with the router. The router's logs helped me notice that the drive didn't even try to send out DHCP requests.)

A few years ago, Linksys was definately at the top of their game with wireless G routers. I only bought WRT54G routers until the WRT54GL was the way to go. But when the N routers started coming out, I just found Linksys N routers unreliable. They didn't last long and they had reliability issues even when they worked.I've tried a few random N routers, but but many have either reliability or feature issues. So far, I'm very happy with the dir-815. It's been reliable, it's dual-band and I've had zero glitches so far!Pros:-it's sleek and small and doesn't take up much room (but make sure wherever you put it that it has airflow around it so it can keep cool.)-I had no issues installing it, but I am a computer nerd.-I replaced a G router and I definately get better throughput-I really like the dual-band. It means that you can run the router both in the 2.4 and the 5.1 megahertz ranges. You can run a network on both ranges at once. You can put G traffic on the 2.4 and N traffic on the 5.1.Cons:-it would be nice for it to be a gigabit wired router, but it is reasonably priced for what it is so I shouldn't complain.Other info:-I'm a computer tech so ease of install really isn't an issue for me. In fact, I didn't use the disk at all.-I think you'll see a good jump in speed going from a G router to this, but I don't know if you'll notice much difference moving up from another N router. It's a good N router, but I doubt it would win speed tests.-another user said they had issues getting it to work with DSL. I didn't experience any issues getting it to work with DSL.So I'm really happy with the router for it's price. I would definately suggest it and I'm going to install one at my Dad's.

I purchased the router to replace an older D-Link I was very happy with. The setup was relatively easy, as I was familiar with the D-link user interface.The problem is that this router does not work. At least once every other day, the router locks up. It can not be accessed through its IP adress in a browser, and it blocks all access to internet. When it is locked up, you can still connect to LAN, but connection to router, and connection to internet does not work.If you cycle power on the router, it starts working again. Problem is I have the router in the attic, so it is a huge hassle to climb up there very other day to reset it.If you google this router and the problem I describe, you will see it is a common problem many people are having. I suspect the router needs new firmware, but Dlink appears to have no interest in fixing this problem.This will be the last Dlink product that I buy. Customer support is non existant. If you buy this router you are simply stuck.

Pros:- Can handle my 2 wifi cell phones, wired desktop, 2 wireless laptops, and my wired Samsung Internet TV- Nicely built antennas (2 of them)- Compact size- Speed = AMAZING!!- VERY easy setupCons:- Honestly Cant think of anyI actually bought a NetGear N300 router(NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless-N300 Gigabit Router with USB WNR3500L and had to return it. The speed of the wireless was slower than the G router I had. I spent a couple hours trying every configuration and eventually gave up. The PRIMARY reason I wanted to upgrade was not because of the actual speed of the wireless, but I needed a more heavy duty router to handle all my wireless and wired devices. My old Belkin G router was awesome for 2 devices, but once you start throwing in a wife who streams netflix on the Samsung 55 inch tv while browsing the web on her laptop and facebooking wifi.... and then me doing what ever else on my devices just hammered the router and actually froze/crashed where I had to restart it. (Not enough processing speed) About 2 weeks after I returned the Netgear I get an offer to try out this D-LINK router.This DLINK...AMAZING! I hooked it up and it took about 2 mins to setup, no install cd required. I useed speedtest dot net to test out the wifi speed. I am getting 9.8 Mbps out out of my 10Mbps line. Before I only topped out at around 7. And of course the most important thing... it could handle all the devices on my network and allowed them all to do what ever they wanted.So if someone is having a hard time with a new Wirless N router and almost gave up like me, go get this one!

This router has been fast, but after 8 months it works only sporatically and so now we have to replace it. Needless to say, it WON'T be with another D-link 815.

I got this router to replace an older one that was no longer working consistently. This one has been in use for over six months, with no problems. We use it with a cable modem to provide WIFI service to two desktop computers, several notebooks, several smartphones, and various other devices. It's been a workhorse.

I purchased the DLink DIR-815 to replace a Netgear router product. (Netgear still worked fine, but wanted N support) The router installation went ok (after disabling a pair of VMWare virtual network adapters). Unfortunately the wireless range was much less than I expected and much less than my Netgear router. I tried different channels, disabling the 5GHz radio, validated that the transmit/receive strength settings was at 100%, positioned it in a number of different locations (including the same location the Netgear router was located at) without help.To add insult to injury, the wireless signal strengh of my laptop to the Dlink router (within 3' of each other) was less than the strength between my laptop and my neighbors 2Wire router. That is just not right......

We purchased this router to replace an older Dlink router. I have been using Dlink routers and access points for years, so I am very familiar with (and like) their user interface. We use DSL and have a mix of wireless and wired devices. Our router is set up in the kitchen and we have a wireless access point (DAP-1522) in the living room. As soon as we got this set up we began to have issues. The new Dlink modem and DAP-1522 would not communicate. In addition, our Internet slowed to a crawl and we began to get numerous time out errors. This isn't limited to the Internet either, as trying to connect to the router is sometimes painfully slow. I have spent a few hours adjusting the router configuration to no avail. My next step is to call customer service. My previous experience with Dlink equipment has been all positive. Unfortunately, this router is bucking the trend.

I got the D-Link DIR-815 for its simultaneous dual band capability. I couldn't get the 5GHz band to work, and put it on the shelf.A week ago, I noticed that D-Link has released a new version 1.01 firmware, so I tried again. Now the 5 GHz band works for me, but the router is SLOW. It isn't the wireless, it is the router itself.I tried multiple tests on my Roadrunner Turbo Plus line using the wired ports on the router (not via wireless). With the D-Link, the tests were 1400-1900 Kbps down and 400 Kbps up, while my old Edimax router would do 13,000 Kbps down and 1,800 Kbps up.I'd love to hear there is a way to fix this, but I'm about to return this.

Seriously, I pay $80+ for a router and this is what I get?This thing has been nothing but trouble. I am literally crouched over my laptop in the living room right now, plugged up directly to the modem because for some reason this router has decided to cut me off from the internet again tonight.Doesn't work wirelessly, doesn't work plugged in. I never get speeds over ~30 mbps even when it is "working".This has been my first D-Link purchase, and I will NEVER buy another one.

Alright so i have never written a customer review on products like this mainly because i forget to but i didnt this time. I really am doing this because im tired of people that dont understand how to use routers and set them up and such. Yes i have worked in IT for around 7 years now and still pretty young but i understand alot and the router was very very easy to setup get connected and get protected as well.Pros:Dual Band at the same timeEasy SetupWEP/WPA easy to setup up as wellAble to set to SSIDs without any issues at allCons:Not a gigabit router only 10/100THis router not being a gigabit doesnt bother me one bit because im getting the speeds of my fiber optics that i want which is 50MBps down and 50MBps up with this router I get no lag times this is a great router over all even without the gigabit

We have over a dozen devices on our home network, and most of them use wireless. The wireless devices include several laptops, a printer, an iPad, an iTouch, and a Windows Phone 7. All of them connect easily and quickly, using WMA with a long key for security. We also routinely connect visitors' devices with no problems.We're getting an extra bar or two for signal strength for most places in the house. Also, having the phone functional on Wifi perhaps 200 feet into the backyard is nice (the wireless hub is in a window on the back of the house, which helps).Set up was very easy. I've used Linksys and Buffalo hubs earlier, and setup was as easy or easier as on those.I can't see any speed increase over the Buffalo Wireless N hub, but the wireless devices are mostly just using the network for web browsing, and it's plenty fast. I still used a wired connection for gaming and large downloads, and of course that's as fast as the broadband connection will allow.

I bought this modem thinking it would work better then the linksys that I had and man was I wrong. On weekends while waiting for my 16month old daughter to wake up I take my laptop and a cup of coffee to a table set up in front of our house. Before with our old linksys G I had a perfect connection with no timeouts now I barely get one bar and am constantly timing out on the internet and having to re-load. I will definitely be looking for a better one here in the future. Set up and installation was easy but if you are looking for something that gives you good range this is not one I would recommend!!

I found this DIR-815 router very easy to install and I hope every D-link router will be the same.Unfortunately, after the installation we found the internet connection very slow and sometimes the loading of wetpage will time out. It was very frustrating. So, we brought back to the retail store to get the credit.

Biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased. I had to replace a Linksys WRT54G-T that was flashed with DD-WRT software due to lightning strike and I spent almost a week trying to resolve network connectivity problems that this device created. The DHCP server in the router is totally unreliable in that it randomly refuses to assign IP address to units that are not constantly on line. This is a relatively new model and support is non-existent.I just purchased another Linksys on Ebay and returned this thing to Amazon.

I bought this router used to replace the Buffalo Nfiniti router I had that kept disconnecting. It has worked much better, with only 1 disconnection early on and no major problems since. One issue I do have is that because it is dual-band, I should be able to connect certain devices to a second SSID, but it hasn't worked. It's not a big deal because the speeds don't seem to be affected by the number of devices I have connected (4) so they're all connected to 1 network.I didn't get the installation CD with the router, but even without it, I didn't have any problem setting up the router. It took about 5 minutes and was very easy. The Buffalo took much longer and was very confusing.I highly recommend this router.

I am not really computer savy but I did figure out this one. Hooked it up and it's nice to be able to use my second computer that I have upstairs to gain internet access now. I use that computer mostly for my genealogy and it's just such a pain in the behind to have to download on one computer and transfer to the other. No more though. YAY!The range seems fine to me as I have a very large old, old house with thick walls and floors. Signal strength is exceptional and I haven't had any problems with interference of any sort. The unit is of a likeable size so as not to be cumbersome thank goodness. Ease of set up even for a dummy is tops in my book.I just don't know what else to say other than it's worth every penny and makes even dummies feel computer savy. Saves mega on aggrivation. Guess now I need something to help me learn how to spell too. :)

The D-Link DIR-815 is, simply put, awesome. I have it on the top floor of our three-story home and I get a full strength signal in our basement. It has four ports for all your gear and, because it's 802.11n, it broadcasts in both 2.4ghz and 5ghz ranges.The software that comes with the DIR-815 is PC only, but I was able to plug it into my Mac and get it set up with the router's built in web interface admin software. That software will let you do just about anything you can imagine: set up custom sites for gaming, change all the network settings, prevent specific MAC addresses from accessing your network. You can also look at your wifi network's stats and see who's connected or who has been, it's pretty full featured and has a lot of advanced options; I drooled over the amount of tweaks I could make. All of that and it's running 802.11n so you're getting more range and, possibly, more speed.The D-Link DIR-815 is fast, reliable, and stable. It is exactly what I needed and it works flawlessly.

Tis is a very good wireless router. I replaced my Linksys WRT54GS with this one. Its performance exceeds the old one all sidelly. I like it.

The D-Link 815 is a fine wireless router that was easy to set up from the CD it came with. In about 30 minutes I had 4 computers, an ITouch and a printer connecting to the router and working. What it is missing is WPA support so the D-Link DIR-815 Wireless N Dual Band Router won't automatically process your IP information over an encrypted signal. The 815 seems a bit faster than the Linksys Wireless G router it replaced. Certainly being able to take advantage of our newer computer's Wireless N has been a great feature of the D-Link 815. The device is sleek and small enough to be on a desk or even on your CPU without being in the way. This is a very good device that I would recommend highly.

This router looked great, had all the features I thought I needed.When it arrived I went to work the next day to set it up, I spent4 hrs trying to get this p.o.s. working, support was not available,I finally gave up. I returned it to Amazon and replaced it with theCisco E2000, it took ten min. to set-up. Two days after I had contactedD-Link by email I got a reply, a long difficult fix to make it work witha DSL modem....too complicated for me, I'd already sent it back anyway.
