The Modem was VERY easy to hook up, I plugged it up connected the wires and it hooked right up and worked. It couldn't be easier and since I hooked it up it has provided flawless service. I have used D-Link devices before and all of them have done everything I need them to. Thank you, D-Link!

I have had problems with the DCM202 after about 5 months. It has defects that dlink is not wanting to fix, so they will never receive my business again. I have experienced similar problems as some of the other reviews with the same horrible customer service. I spent over an hour with my ISP to determine that my modem was faulty. I was not willing however to play the games of staying on the phone for hours trouble shooting the modem with dlink. The customer service is very troubling. They were unwilling to issue an rma unless I was willing to spend many more hours on the phone. They know that most customers do not have the time to do this and use this to their advantage. Do yourself a favor and buy another brand. There are many other quality products that I am positive will serve you better.

It workED fine first month then it get slower and slower , sometimes I could only get 20 Kbp/s, turn it off and back on again, performance get much better for couple hours and then it slow down again. Faulty product! Downloading from the same website, my sister got 900Kbp/s , I got max 200 Kbp/s(after turn off and back on). Disapointed !!!

Although I did not noticed any performance boost over my older Best Data modem, the D-link is smaller and does offer a USB port. Something my older modem lacked. The only drawback is the lack of power button like some other cable modems in the market. But this is minor. Over all, a very nice cable modem.

What can I say about a computer gadget that works without a hitch? This one certainly does. I got it at half price (25% off on sale at Best Buy, 15% off for an open box item, plus a $10 mail-in rebate), and I'm very happy with it. Installation took about 20 min, 10 of which were taken up with reading the Quickstart Guide. After that ..... ready to go! It seems to run faster than the old 3Com modem I'd rented from RCN; for servers 500 miles away I'm getting about 5500-6500 kbps download speed on a line that RCN rates "Mach7", i.e. presumably 7000 kbps.Initializing the modem was easy and didn't required a call to my ISP (RCN). I powered down both of my machines behind the router which is behind the modem, then powered down router and modem, exchanged the modem, powered up the new modem and the router, waited until all 4 LED's of the modem had settled to a steady Green (that took about a minute) and then powered up my two computers again. When I opened the web browser on one of the machines, I was presented with an RCN "self-authentication" screen that asked for the modem's model, MAC address and SN, and that's all that was needed to register the modem with RCN (perhaps I had to go through power cycling one more time - I forget).I like the looks of this thing and the tiny footprint, and it runs cool; it's lukewarm in only one spot. D-Link appears to make pretty good products. E.g. inexpensive ($25-40) wired (i.e. Ethernet) 4-port NAT routers are available from D-Link, Netgear and Linksys as well as from other companies. I carefully researched equivalent routers from these three companies, and the one from D-Link got the best reviews. I eventually went with the Netgear because I got one used for $25. It worked well for a year, but then started to drop the line several times every day. A firmware upgrade cured that.

It works as well if not better than the one I have beeen renting form the cable. I was paying $7 rental. Therefore pay back will be in 8 months.

I switched to VOIP phone service and found out from trouble shooting the Packet 8 system that the Motorola modem I rented from Comcast was replaceable. After researching, I got this and set it up on a Mac G4 with a Linksys router for Vonage VOIP service. The whole system has been flawless since set up. I have temporarily moved the 'office' across the room to do some custom shelves and paneling with no trouble.Also have added Virtual PC, Windows 2000 pro with Internet Explorer 6.0. No access problems due to the hardware system (had to uninstall some spyware).I have a battery backup with a line voltage regulator that maintains the power as well as back up and surge protection. I suspect the lack of brown outs helps some of the problems others have had. The speed IS noticeable to me - especially when I am somewhere else using the net. Definitely fewer fall offs than the older, slower Motorola.

I was renting a Toshiba PCX1100 from Cox for almost 2 years just because I knew nothing about Cable modems and was hesitant to break what was working. Customer Service rep recommended buying so took a chance. I reviewed the recommended list online and took his recommendations Motorola Surfboard, Toshiba PCX 2200, and Linksys under advisement. I was on my way to purchase a Motorola at Circuit City when I saw this on Amazon at a great deal(...). I couldn't beat that price anywhere so I checked the reviews. I noticed that the reviews in 2005 gave good ones. It was on the vendor's recommended list so I gambled and thought let me try it.At 10:30 pm, I began to read and install. When installing the ethernet connection, I disabled and enabled the Local Area Connection and the protocols were automatically updated for the modem. (Properties were set to automatic as per the directions) Then I clicked on internet explorer and the easy installation instructions from Cox Communications came up. I walked thru all the steps and at the very end hit an error. I called Cox Technical Support and after 15 minutes of troubleshooting and questions, he updated the Serial Number and the Cable Modem MAC for the D-Link in Cox system. A quick double click at 11:15 PM and I was up and ready to go. I thought 45 minutes wasn't too bad since I'm no technical person and most of the time was spent reading directions and working with someone at COX to get me up and running. Loading webpages and content is MUCH quicker than my Toshiba which I believe was on it's last leg. Most of all, I'm happy with the product.Rule #1, Before installing CALL your cable company, tell them you are switching modems, the brand, Cable modem MAC, and the Serial number. (All are found on the modem or box)Rule #2, Do NOT rent. BUY!!! In 3 months time, I will have recovered the cost of renting.(...).

Very easy to set up. Dual ethernet and USB connection provides flexibility. It is just a simple cable modem though, so it has no security features like firewall, website blocking, etc. I use my old router to provide better security. But if you are buying a cable modem for the first time, you might consider spending a little extra for a unit that has a built-in router.

For You peep who live around san jose california if you are currently with the comcast cablem modem service, you gotta pair ur service up with this cablem modem, because that's what i'm running right now. Guess What !!!!!! I am actually getting real 6Mbits down. Very impressive for both Comcast and D-link.

So far I've used 3 of these devices in recent Comcast user installs with various SOHO broadband routers and have not had any compatability issues. As a matter of fact, they're solid high speed performers and I've been getting upwards of 9MB down! ...One issue that may arise for comcast users is the need for a firmware patch if it hasn't already been upgraded.Beyond that, this is a good alternative to the Motorola surfboard series.As always....you can pick up additional information, troubleshooting notes and reviews form the DSReports hardware and service forums @ http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all

I was a little concerned about this DCM-202 modem after reading the reviews on the heat and also firmware upgrade for Comcast ISP. However; after finding the unbeatable price with rebate from Amazon.com, I decided to buy it. I prepared all the new Firmware 2.01 upgrade before the modem arrived and spent 10 minutes to upgrade the firmware when I received the modem. I did not upgrade the 2.01 firmware successfully the first time but I did upgrade successfully the second time. There is no issue whatoever with the modem. There is only some issue to register my modem the 1st time and it took a second phone call to register it. Perhaps I called Comcast to register my modem before I upgraded the firmware for Comcast customer. I could have given it a 5 stars but the firmware upgrade took a small effort so I give it a 4.5 stars intead. Anyway, highly recommend the Dlink DCM-202 cable modem for the price, performance, and the small footprint.

I tried two of these modems on my Comcast connection. It would loose the connection (you couldn't ping your default gateway on the comcast network) at random times for as long as 30 seconds at random times.It was impossible to use this modem with Vonage or other services that expect a reliable connection to function.I have lot of other D-Link equipment, and typically recommend their hardware, but I would recommend staying away from this modem at least on a Comcast connection.

I bought this modem at the same time there was a problem with Comcast customers, and I heard there were other ISPs effected as well.But now that time has passed D-Link and the ISPs found a fix and all these modems should be working fine. I was on the trail end of the problem and I just had to bring the router in to have it "upgraded" and I brought it home and it worked fine.The modem seems pretty stable, but I don't think I've ever had a cable modem that was not reliable. This one looks nice, doesn't take up much space and was easy to install. Basically you just plug it in and it works.If you buy one of these to replace the cable modem you are "renting" from your ISP, then make sure you call your ISP in advance so that they know you are switching. This is usually because ISPs only allow cable modems on their network that they know about. And how they know about it is by entering in the serial number, or MAC address on the back of the router into their system. This tell their system to allow this device to connect to their network. I believe it is standard procedure, at least it was for Charter Communications in my situation.Overall this modem works great and I'm glad I can save money by purchasing it myself.

This modem has worked perfectly since day one. I had more hassle with Time Warner speaking to someone that knew what they were doing to convert from their modem to the D-Link. Finally got someone intelligent enough to figure out what to do and it has worked great when finally activated. I notice slightly quicker download speed. Webpages pop up instead of filling the screen from top to bottom like before. I had the original modem issued by TW and it was a Toshiba. Big improvement and reliable.

I was torn between the Motorola 5100 and the D-link 202. I already know the 5100 is good from the reviews but I had to see for myself with the D-link and I'm really glad I did. It was simple to hook up. Make sure your provider get's the MAC address and you will be online in minutes. WIth Adelphia the screen pops up asking for Mac address if you're not using a router so you don't even have to call it in.Speed is great with most pages coming up right after click of the mouse. The most I've had to wait with a busy site was fifteen seconds with 5 being the norm. I have it a week now and haven't experienced any overheating or disconnections with the exception of one that Adelphia confessed to. I would like to see them match the two year warranty of the Motorola but I still go by the old computer rule of thumb that if a computer component or peripheral is going to go it's usually in the first three months. After the first two years there's no guarantee on anything. I'm going to play this one out because the way it's working now it's worth the small gamble with the one year warranty. I did call customer service just to see if they were there and they picked right up and answered a few of my dumb questions. I highly recommend.It's now about three months later and I haven't had one problem. Great modem.Now had it almost a year and a half and nothings changed. Still recomment.It's now Nov. 2010 and modem has been flawless. I made the right choice.I haven't had one problem with this modem and I'm now into Windows 7. I haven't done a thing with it except dust it once in a while. Needless to say I'm very satisfied.
