This USB sound card significantly improved the sound quality of my Sony VAIO laptop. Another plus is it has an input for external devices, such as a electronic keyboard, which will allow me to record directly onto my laptop. However, the software bundle that came with it was disappointing. For example, there isn't even a graphic equalizer included to customize the output.

I did not beleive that this would change my quality of sound, I was very mistaken this thing rocks. It sounds so great I cant beleive my JBL 635 speakers COULD SOUND SO GOOD OUT OF MY LAPTOP. My daughter's boyfriend set this little device up to her computer and she loves the richer sound playing out of her crappy speakers. She's no audiophile, just a "normal" early 20's girl who likes her music and loved that it sounded better. She gives it 5 stars.

I have a KVM between a MacMini and Win7 pc. I connected it to the USB port of the KVM and I got to use it for both devices. No drivers needed for both Mac OSX lion and Win7. On the OSX lion, you just have to select the sound output from the system preferences to output to the new soundcard.

It has -- forever -- been the case that Creative has created decent, value-driven hardware crippled by bad-to-awful software and drivers. You kind of get the feeling they don't quite know what "bad" (or "good") is.I updated firmware, installed the software, and cannot for the love of mankind figure out how to enable the SPDIF-out port to use my outboard DAC (via optical SPDIF). I have another Creative USB outboard DAC, that works fine. Plug it in, connect the TOS cable to "optical out," and Presto! Music. I got the H-Fi working via SPDIF before -- somehow -- but can't remember the specific voodoo. I've now fallen back to the other device, and the X-Fi HD is an expensive paperweight.The "knowledgebase" is useless.Buy something better-conceived, and better-supported.

After many hours of trying to get the creative drivers installed I've just given up. In order to use some of the features of the Sound Blaster X-Fi HD USB you need to load creative's drivers (that come on the CD) rather than the generic windows drivers that get installed when you plug it in. Problem for me is that I get warnings that the drivers are unsigned and then the device just doesn't work. No drivers are available on creative's website and I'm not willing to turn off signed driver requirements just for this device.And to top it off there are errors during the install so although it appears that the install finishes it doesn't.

I was looking for a decent headphone amp to sit next to my PC. In my opinion this is not an audiophile headphone amp. The base sounds muddy with my Sennheisers. The volume knob is too small and feels cheap.

All I am telling is about the sound what I think is most important factor for any audiophile. I found it to be harsh but as well as detailed. One have to take an interval at least once after 30 minutes because of the headache. There is no question that it is detailed but that does not necessarily means it is a product for audiophiles. But Creative made a good try but its nearly (not totally) a failure. If u want to use it for long sessions then stay far away from this one.

I was looking for something to help with conversion to digital from old analog sources, and this certainly fits the bill. It is pretty easy to use. I have some friends with some higher end equiptment, and there is a difference in the sound quality, but only if you are listening on serious audiophile equiptment. This has the advantage of USB setup, which was a snap, and it fits my needs. I'm pretty satisfied with this one and would recommend it to those who care a lot about music, but not to those (and you know who you are) who are super picky.

So far, I still can't find a way for RCA out put or anything like that. I can only let it output via headphone jack but that is all I need. I used to have StudyAudio Ruby so I did not expect much from this. However, it turns out to be amazing. It works with Linux and it sounds great. I only have Denon D2000, which does not requires lots of power to drive and it fixes quite perfectly with this DAC/amp. The sounds from on-board chip to this DAC become more lively, a little more bright and the mid is more the defined. Bass is tightened but not overwhelmed. Only that I like is it does not need the powerAC, only power from usb is enough (I know it is partially a trade-off with less powerful amp section). Overall, for those who seeks entry-level of music listenings and especially Linux, this pieces works well (for $100, it satisfies me).To use RCA output. Simple take the headphone jack out, then the signal will go to RCA out. I am still was not sure how to use optical in but I suspect it would work as well. Hurray!

This is a simple yet fantastic product. I use it as an external sound card/DAC(Digital Analog Converter) for my computer. It sounds fantastic. The volume knob and front jacks are extremely convenient. The software works fine. I've even set up a way to use it as a DAC for my XBox using the optical in. If you want to know how to do that there is a useful review on Creative's website.

I am using this unit on a Computer powered Jukebox I have at home.Vast improvement on the onboard soundcard I was using and the Creative Software really does improve the sound quality of MP3s.Highly recomended

I am using the X-Fi with a set of AKG K430 headphones as well as bookshelves slightly higher end than your average Logitech desktop speakers. Sound quality is very good and appropriate for this price level. Not as good as my dedicated hifi setup obviously but compares favorably considering the price. Very flexible, convenient and easy to use.

This usb sound card sounds cheap and bad!!! This is NOT a Audiophiles sounding DAC/Sound card. The THX Software is a joke and you will not use it trust me on that. If you want too make this X-Fi HD sound really bad then use the THX software.lol The $30.00 Creative Lab sound Card I had from 2003 sounded way better then this fake Audiophiles product. I could not take how bad this sound card sounded so I returned it too Amazon for a full refund and I got a HRT Streamer II DAC to replace the creative junk. Save your ears,time and money and don't buy this product! The HRT DAC was day and night then the X-Fi HD. The Creative Labs made $600.00 bookshelf speaker sound bad! This was one of the worst DAC/sound card I ever heard that is the best way I can review this product in short.The Con list would be endless.

Replaced an integrated sound card that was giving me problems. Thought I would spend a little more to get discrete sound and it was def worth it. Great sound through my 7.1 receiver or through headphones. No complaints so far.

Super easy to install. Had no issues whatsoever. Hooked right up to my laptop and then into my sound system. Sounded great! Was able to watch Hulu, videos, etc on my tv with fantastic sound. It's a hit around my house. I love how portable it is. Not too bulky or heavy and will fit easily in my laptop case.

I have used Creative products for years (soundcards, speakers, etc.). Until now, it is a brand I trust.I recently bought a pair of Grado SR225 headphones; I bought this soundcard to use with my laptop and headphones to listen to my collection of lossless audio files.My laptop is a Gateway M1624, and I'm using Vista. Each time I connect the soundcard to the laptop, I get a blue screen of death, with no exception. I had to search online through forums to find a support phone number (Creative does not list one on their website - unacceptable!!!!When I finally reached them, the support worker was terse, and not very helpful. Since I have reached the end of my 30 days of Creative "support", I think I will return it and buy another product.Creative needs better technical support! A company commited to helping their customers would be able to solve an installation issue.Shame!

easy set up and controls on the desktop couldn't be easier, I use the analog inputs from a mixing board so I can play my bass and guitars along with my drum machine thru my computer and it works great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bring you all the detail in music in a fantastic way without using your CPU usage . So portable with USB connection. With a good headphone you can hear a higher note, deeper bass, and every single detail. It has DTS decoder, you can connect with your 5.1 sound system. 3D surround is very helpful for playing videos games and watching movie. This thing doesn't have an equalizer so if you want to tweak your music, you need a different program

Most importantly I am in the market for a Turntable phono input to a SPDIF (24/96) output... There is no mention if this unit can perform this function.Is there a power supply adapter or is the unit USB powered.Can anyone tell me if this is possible.RegardsHPCreative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD USB Audio System with THX SB1240

I dont know much about this kind of stuff. i got some Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro's and read around the interwebs that i should look into a headphone amp. so i chose this one im using it as i write this. its so beautiful looking. right now i have it hooked up to big speakers that are older than i am and its NTUS. i could bring this and these speakers to a park and throw a high quality Dub show. its so nice i cant type anymore, check this picture[...]this amp is making these antiques scream like a new born childjust buy it you will love it
