I'm not an expert in the audio devices area, having had most of my experience in the older analog equipment. But I did buy this Creative device and I have to comment that their instructions are as crappy as any I have ever seen. There are functions that I do not understand at all and the so called "manual" tells the user, in pictoral sketches, how to plug various devices into this unit and what cables to use (the kind of stuff that just about anybody can figure out). There is no help or advice as to WHAT the unit can do for me and the best way to use it, when/where etc. I'm very disappointed as this thing is a waste of my time. I'll certainly never buy and other item made by this company.

This is a terrific audio enhancement for a notebook computer. It was installed on a machine that had been upgraded to MS-Windows 8 using drivers & applications downloaded from the Creative web site. The software interface is easy to use and the quality of audio (using external speakers) is now at a par with a high-quality sound card typically found on a desktop PC. I really like this product and recommend it without reservation.

Does everything I wanted it to do, sounds great. Included cables are of relatively high quality. Default driver in Win7 works but seems to be taxing the system quite a bit - kernel CPU times spikes were bad enough to cause issues in Skype calls. Bite the bullet and install the Creative driver together with the obligatory bundled bloatware.

Considering what I paid for this, I thought that it would record in a little better quality then it did. I am a dj, so I have been using this to record my mixes, and ive noticed that this device isnt capable of multiple frequencies. When i start belmding songs it easily gets distorted and sounds bad, but then once its to one song again it sounds fine for the most part. Good if you arn't super ocd about quality.

This sound card impressed me. It has many things that make it appeal to me. Firstly, the unit looks and feels like a quality product. There's gold plating on the jacks and the inputs and outputs. The unit is plastic, but looks and feels solid. The minimalist design is both modern and elegant. Secondly, I am impressed with the sound. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect the sound quality to improve as much as it did. I hear more depth and clarity in the songs in my music collection. Some songs sound much better than others given the higher quality file and bit rate. Details become noticeable which weren't there with the original sound card in the computer. I use PortaPros and HD595s headphones and both sound much better plugged into this. I use Energy RC-10s and a HSU sub connected to a NAD C320 BEE amp, and the sound has improved quite a bit. Instruments leap out more and there's more separation, detail, and clarity overall. Finally, the price of this product is great. It's easy to justify this purchase given that it's less than $100 and has great performance.One thing I found annoying is that the volume doesn't have a definite start point where you know the volume is lowest. In other words, turning it counter clockwise, you won't be able to dial it down to zero and the dial stops and turns no more. It just keeps turning so you often have no way of knowing what the volume is at. I found that it takes about 3 full turns or so to get from 0 to 100% volume. I find that it is too many turns.The software ran flawlessly. Drivers work on Vista 64Bit. There's a Creative Audio control panel for tweaking the sound with effects, which is pretty nice. There is no equalizer, which many will find disappointing. However, I normally don't play around with equalizer settings so it was not an issue with me.

Pros: Works in Ubuntu 12.04 without any extra work.Cons: I can't get it to work with JACK (a high-performance audio server)Benchmarks: My motherboard's built-in audio has latency of < 78 ms (using the default pulseaudio server). The X-Fi HD has latency ~ 30 ms, which is not good enough for electronic music processing.When my motherboard goes through JACK, it has a latency of 10 ms. Unfortunately, since the X-Fi doesn't seem to work with JACK, I'll be returning it for a better-supported sound card.

Great for re-creating high quality audio for classroom learning. This was a much-needed piece of equipment to add the finishing touches for the classroom recordings I made.

I bought this to digitize my vinyl album collection as an inter-face between my record player and my laptop.Seems to have a very low noise ratio and the hardware and software works well with my Dell Win7 laptop.

I've read and wholly sympathize with the reviewers who are reporting problems getting this product to work on their Win7 64-bit machines. Whether I'm the lucky exception to the rule, or they are the unfortunate minority is less the issue than the reality that some (but not all) folks with that operating system are having problems. In my case, everything went off without a hitch. Setup is as easy as plugging the unit in via the provided USB cable, and then installing Creative's driver and software. As noted above, that process was successful for me right off of the CD, and the audio system has been working beautifully since (wish I could report the same about the Hercules XPS 101 2.1 Multimedia Speakers (4769199) it's paired with, but that's a different issue).The audio quality, of course, is going to be tied to the speakers you use -- so there's not much to say there. What I can report is that I get crisp and clean sound through this device, it's a measurable upgrade over the simple/bare-bones on-board audio that came with this laptop, and as the laptop didn't have a 'normal' audio out (just a headphones jack and an optical port), it's great to be able to plug in via USB. That the device has composite (red/white) ins means it can also serve as a DAC, a device through which you might connect and record older equipment for the sake of making digital copies of audio from old record/tape/etc. media -- and that's icing on the cake for those of us who simply wanted it as an off-board audio controller. See the "Sprawlers" 12/25/10 review for a cleaner and comprehensive commentary about this functionality.For my purposes, it's an ideal solution. Perhaps I just got lucky with the set-up, so if you're running Win7 64-bit, take some solace from the fact that there are folks who are getting all the features/software to work in that environment, but pay close attention to the more recent reports of problems/experiences therein.

I bought this product to see if it would improve the audio output coming from my laptop to my mixer(I do mobile DJ work) and it does help. It gives you a lot of choices to play with the sound, different room aspects, reverb, or just tweeking your audio system. I'm glad I purchased the item, very easy to hook up.

Ok this is an amazing piece of hardware. the sound is extremely good but only as good as the headphones/speakers your going to use with it, so make sure you have the hardware to fully utilize it

Being in an apartment, I rarely get the chance to listen to my nice sound system. And nowadays I find myself listening to music on my laptop much more often. So I decided to give this DAC a try as my sound card is not very good and would like to have a better-than-average music listening experience to tide me over when I need to keep the volume in check for my neighbors. I won't be using this for its recording features, simply just going to plug in and use for headphone listening.It was easy to set up, just plugged in my headphones to the DAC, and connected the DAC to my laptop via USB. My laptop updated its drivers and it was ready to go. (The first time I tried this install - the software crashed my PC. I will probably try to install the software again eventually just to have it available.)I went about this process backwards as I found a good deal for this DAC before ultimately deciding on a pair of new-good headphones. But the headphones I do have are at least entry level monitors (Sony MDR-V600's) that I used for a number of years back when I used to DJ. So they are at least good enough for testing this device.Quality-wise, I would say this DAC is 4 stars. But because of the price point I give it 5 stars. It made the sound much more clean and detailed. There was a very noticeable upgrade in sound quality even with an average pair of headphones. There was a far greater soundstage compared to when my headphones are directly connected to my laptop, it definitely breathed more life into my musical library. The DAC was able to bring out each instrument or track recording layer with more distinct clarity. Some sounds in the tracks were even brought out that I've never heard before, which makes me excited to go through my entire music library and possibly have an entirely new experience with each song!Can't wait to get a new pair of headphones and really give this set up a go.

I purchased this primarily to record my vinyl records. I works great. It has a built-in preamp so I didn't have to hook my preamp to it. Sound is great after the enhancement features in the software. It was well worth the price. I can't rate it 5-star because of the plug-ins for the mic and headset, because it uses adapters for the larger plugs.

Length:: 0:21 MinsI bought this because I have awesome AudioEngine2 speakers and wanted some better sound from them, I took a chance on this in hopes it would bring my speakers to life and oh boy did it ever!I have a 2011 27" iMac and it works flawlessly, I even tried it on my 2012 13" MacBook Pro with no issues. Keep in mind, the software will NOT install on a MAC but the hardware works perfectly. Even the volume knob works with the iMac and MacBook Pro. I have included a video to prove it.Just change the sound output in System Preferences to the USB Sound Blaster HD.

Recently purchased this product and love the sound, although it's just slightly better than my on board audio, which is Realtek HD. There's one serious problem, however. In Windows 7 64 bit, with all software and drivers up-to-date, this device will not play music or games without audio drop outs. I've done lots of A/B testing between it and my on board audio, and the Realtek NEVER gets drop outs, but the SB does it all the time. It also makes game playing herky jerky at times because of the audio problems. I don't know why this SB gets drop outs because it uses very little CPU resources and has a HIGH dispatch setting in the Windows Task Manager. It's possible it has something to do with it being a USB device, but who knows. There must be something wrong with the way the drivers are written (just a guess). I'll be looking to get the SB Fatality Pro internal set up, which should be much better, because it installs in a motherboard slot. I'd keep the external one if it didn't have this problem, but will sell it and replace it with the internal one.Just for the record, I have a fairly recent computer with a high end Intel i5 quad core processor, 8 GB RAM, ATI/AMD 5570 video card with 1GB RAM, etc. The SB gets drop outs when the computer is sitting there doing nothing but playing music with no other tasks running except iTunes. The CPU and I/O activity is almost nothing. When I use the on board audio instead under exactly the same conditions, everything is fine. I went to the Creative web site hoping to find a user forum, but found nothing. Forums usually contain excellent feedback about problems like this, often with solutions.
