These devices contain a known bug where the reset button doesn't do anything until a later firmware version (1.03 or 1.04). Unfortunately, those later versions break 802.11n, so you'll be stuck at g speeds.If you attempt to disable NAT, you will brick your device. For good. You won't be able to access the administrative interface again. Using the reset button won't fix it.Spend an extra $10 on a Cisco E2500.

This was my first experience with a wireless router. I have been getting by for many years with a standard old hardwired router but recently purchased a wireless Blu-Ray and an IPOD Touch. I had intended on purchasing a new wireless router when my father in law told me they had this one that they no longer needed due to the recent install of Verizon FIOS at their residence. Since it was only two months old and according to him worked fine for running his laptop and of course FREE I took him up on the offer. Being that it was a Linksys and was wireless "N" I figured it would have to be good. WRONG. What a pile of garbage this router turned out to be. The setup wasn't the easiest but it also wasn't the most difficult. The problem or problems are 1.It CONSTANTLY drops connection. Multiple times daily it would drop connection. 2. Very poor speed. Completely unacceptable for a "N" router (which it turns out was branded "N" without certification). 3. SUCKS for XBOX Live 4. SUCKS for streaming movies. Of course with poor transfer speeds you would expect the gaming and streaming to be sub par. I really don't have anything good to say about this router. I even hate the way it has to lie down flat on your desk, it would have been nice for Cisco to design it to stand up for those who have less room. I even got this router for free and it upsets me.Yesterday I went and bought the router I had planned on in the first place (Netgear WNR3500L) and I had it installed and connected within 10 minutes. It works flawlessly with my Blu-Ray and Xbox 360 and hasn't disconnected one time. I am relieved to know that there are good wireless routers out there. I am sure not all Cisco/Linksys products are this bad, but they would be smart to pull this product from the shelves in hopes of keeping a good reputation.Bottom line: If you are planning on a wireless router purchase steer clear of this one. If you already bought this and you are within your return period DO IT NOW. If you happen to have it and don't have an issue with it consider yourself very lucky.

The set up seems to be easier than Belkins in 2010, the thing is made in China as most products from Walmart are, so get the extended warranty walmart offers and plan for a trip to customer service desk there to get an new one. 6 months tops if your lucky. The pc board has a nice brown spot where the CPU overheats...my guess, insuffiecient cooling. Like no heat sink. I figured poor solder connection on the antenna due to the cheap solder they use today (lead free). Once it heats up, it gets hot, loses conductivity on the joints or in this case, the CPU overheats. So cool it off by unplugging it, then turn it back on an it works fine. You cant leave it on or it will not lasts more than 6 months..Great quality control..NOT! I wish I read reviews but i was desperate and in a hurry.

Ahhh, where do I begin, the device needs regularly rebooted...by regularly, I mean multiple times a day. The DHCP server function fails all the time. In my home we use a desktop, 2 laptops, 2 iPhones, iPod touch, Blu-Ray player and Wii, 2 Nook Color eBook Readers. That is 10 wireless devices...not all connected at the same time...and it is a real crap shoot when we turn one of them on whether they get an IP or not. When they don't, the easiest thing to do is disconnect power. This happens at least twice, sometimes as many as 5 times a day.I have had 2 Linksys wirless products now...and they both sucked.Don't buy this or other Linksys products if you don't like throwing your money away.BTW, I would give this a "0" star rating if amazon would let me.

This router is garbage. It constantly disconnects all wireless connections and I have to power cycle (disconnect and reconnect the cord) to get it to run again. Not really convenient when I am trying to use my Iphone or Ipad in bed, to read news, email, ect., before going to sleep.Another reviewer suggests that it is not bad if you are a wireless Engineer and know how to work around its quirks. I didn't buy it for adventures in quirkiness, I want it to work 24/7 and it fails every couple of hours.

For those of you who are dead set on ignoring the reviews and feedback here and buying this pile of monkey dung anyway, I do have a helpful pointer. If you want this thing to work at all, unplug it every day and let it rest for 12-15 hours. Then only plug it in when you need it. I wish I had visited Amazon before buying this spontaneously at a retailer. Shame on me. I can save you the headache. The first one of these I had worked okay for a little while, then intermittently, then not at all. After several exchanges with Cisco tech support, I was told a new router was in order. As you might expect, Cisco will not let you upgrade or improve on the offal you just bought, they will only exchange it for you for the same one. So, I got another plastic doorstop a week or two later. It had the same problem. I got a tech that actually knew what she was talking about this time, but it only helped temporarily. This thing only functions with any regularity if it can carry the internet yolk for you a couple/three hours a day max. Even then, be diligent about not asking it to split devices. It'll work sporadically as a wireless device for one item (say, a laptop), but don't ask this poor lazy excuse for a router to also supply a phone or a desktop at the same time. It'll get tired and poop out on you. Cisco should be ashamed.

This router promises wireless-N speeds, but it has trouble even meeting wireless-b speeds. It keeps dying and needs to be restarted. Constantly, it loses connections or slows down to near crawl speeds. I have tried this with various laptops/iPads and the problem exists with all of them. My 5 yr old Linksys router that I bought for $15 from PCRecycle works better than this!

This has to be their worst router ever. The last Linksys I had was just ok. Then I upgraded to the N Router by Cisco. WOW... what a POS!!! It goes down once a day and I have to unplug and plug back in to restart. 6 months ago, it stopped working because I had to upgrade Firmware. I thought the unit was dead after 6 months old. I called Cisco and they charged me $60 to tell me to upgrade my Firmware. How nice! Cisco is a rip off. I will be buying something else next time.

I have installed at least 20 of these in the last year. 15 or more have failed. Failed. They just quit working in a few simple ways: No internet, Not connectable (you can see the SSID but you cannot connect), Plain Fail (brick) or just become so unreliable that they are worse than worthless.I am:An IT technicianAn IT consultantAn owner of an IT consultancy, a computer repair, sales and service shop.I do not write these things lightly, this is a sad review for a once Solid company. Cisco makes Linksys and Linksys has totally devolved into junk. After this last year I have no faith in even the higher end routers and APs. Buy the Netgear wndr3700 or 3800. Solid, high traffic performance.

We happened to buy this router because it was on a clearance rack, and our 5 year old router was having issues. We didn't need anything fancy, just a replacement. After having persistent connection issues for a couple weeks, I found a review here that offered several changes to improve the connection. Those changes helped, but now, a month later and there are still disconnects and reconnection issues. Simply a horrible product that should not have been released.

I wish that we had read these reviews before we purchased ours. I am now on hold with technical support for the 5th time in a week and they do not seem to understand what intermittent connectivity means. Of course, maybe they have as hard of a time understanding me as I do understanding them. We will be on wifi and then not, intermittently, all day every day! It has been a headache and I DO NOT recommend this product!

This router was by far the easiest I've ever set up. Just put the CD in and it does it all for you. I tried to set up another router and needed everything from my name to a third world countries launch codes. This was up and working in 5 minutes and I am running three devices on it right now. I really don't understand the negative reviews. Very satisfied.

I have never rated a product so low but, in my experience, this router is a piece of junk. After spending at least three hours on the phone with Linksys tech support, they told me the modem was broken and to send it back (which I did).I'm glad I bought the router from Amazon because returning it is quicker and less complicated than if I had bought the same product from Cisco/Linksys. The router also cost considerably less at Amazon.But that's not the whole story.I ordered a new modem because I was told by Linksys that my two year old Linksys modem was broken. That was after spending another 3-4 hours on the phone, shuffled back and forth between Linksys and my dsl provider. Because I no longer had a warranty on my "old" router, I paid $39.95 to Linksys for six months of tech support (it cost $10 less for one time tech support).When I spoke with Linksys before receiving the new modem, they told me it was easy to set up by using the included CD. I tried and it screwed up my entire wireless connection, which I previously could use by plugging the Ethernet cord directly between the modem and my laptop.Towards the end of the process, the tech support person suggested I uninstall their software. But guess what?! It could not be uninstalled from the control panel and there was no folder for it in the programs menu.After I got of the phone entirely frustrated, I decided to do a system restore. Thank goodness it fixed the problem with my internet connection and I can now use the internet by keeping my modem and laptop connected. I no longer can access the internet wirelessly, so now my husband and I take turns connecting our laptops to the modem.I called Linksys Customer Service and asked for a $10 refund because I could only use their tech support for one incident because my "old" Linksys router was broken. They refused.If you decide to buy this router, or any other one by Linksys, I suggest you call tech support rather than do the installation from the CD.I want to add that the tech support people were always courteous and tried their best to help. When you call, the phone is answered quickly.I don't know if I'm going to get another wireless router but, if I do, it won't be a Linksys. If it's not broken when you get it, there seems to be built-in obsolescence. Don't expect it to last long.But do expect to possibly spend a long time on the phone!

I now know why Cisco has gone down in the dumps1. While installing - it tries to install yahoo toolbar, some 5 day trial of some antivirus and other crapware. Honest people without computing background will install by default.2. I being more aware did not opt for the above so the software post completion shows me a warning in red that I have no antivirus (I have MacAfee installed already).3. I cannot connect to the network - no reason given I simply cannot connect and I am supposed to pay for support. This is after me being from a computing background and after spending hrs in various support forums.4. Bought a Netgear 300N router and everything worked well without the crapware.I will never buy a CISCO product in my life again.

This router was extremely problematic. Setup was easy, but it required being restarted at least once a day. Obviously, this defeats the purpose. Have replaced with the Medialink Wireless N Router, which has not EVER needed to be restarted.

I've used many different wifi routers, and this one by far is the best. My laptop works like it's connected directly like to modem. I'm not sure why everyone's complaining, it hasn't crapped out once, it's super easy to set up, and downloads are a brezzy. The only con is that the internet connection in the back is a bit loose, but that's nothing that can't be fixed.

The "Quick" installation was a complete joke. After wasting 2 precious hours of my day off, it was determined by the very strange tech support person that the thing is defective! He had the nerve to tell me never to buy their product through department stores and to only buy through them direct. He told me to get my money back then reorder through them online! Well excuse me, but do they send their defects to the department stores and keep the ones that actualy work for themselves?? Made no sense!!! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!

You should get this router if:1. You love resetting your router so much that you'd like to do it multiple times each day,2. You enjoy trying to find meaning in randomly blinking lights,3. You don't really need wireless to work but still want to spend the money on it,4. You like entering login and password information 5-10 times before the router acknowledges it (IF the router acknowledges it - RESET),5. You hate yourself.I thought spending extra on this instead of my last router, a Belkin, would be worthwhile. But the cheapest Belkin available is better than this. I will never buy a Linksys router again as long as I live. I hate that I have to give this thing even one star.Keep up the good work, Cisco!

When it works, it works great. However the wireless connection (not the wired) would randomly drop off. The router would need to be rebooted and it would work fine again...for a day or two. After several times repeating this process I contacted support via the life chat on the Cisco site. Support walked me through updating the firmware and changing the channel. "This should fix the problem". It didn't. After a few days the problem started again. I contacted live chat support a second time. This time we changed a few of the advanced setting, and changed the channel again.Now, a Mac computer has been more stable, but all the handhelds in my house(ipad, iphone's, notebooks) will work for a day or so, then be unable to connect. To solve problem, I must still unplug the router from the power and plug it back in. Then it works fine...until it randomly drops off.Do not buy this product. I will be purchasing a new router and throwing this one in the trash where it belongs.Follow up 3 weeks later.After three time of "chating" with tech support (via the support site) I was given a option to replace my router. The replacement was a referb but the same model, so I figured they had fix what the problems. WRONG! The "new" router lasted 3 hours before the power had to be unpluged, and replugged to reset the router. Again, it works great for a few days, then the wireless just drops off. Sorry, but two strikes and you are out.

I purchased this router from the Cisco itself after I had called them about help for my 5 year old router which kept dying and dropping connections on me, the tech support guy strongly recommended I buy this router for 49.99 , 54 bucks total with tax but it had free shipping with it. He told me its the highest rated router by consumers. He made sure for me that the one I will be getting is not faulty and works 100%. People if you want to buy routers buy them from the manufacturer It's a whole lot easier to deal with if there ever is a problem and you get longer return periods + free tech support and warranty.The CD setup was easy to install the only problem when setting it up was at the start I had to manually Autorun the setup program from the disc itself, (click the setup application icon on the disc when you go to Start>computer>Open the disc contents and there you go.Easiest dang router I have ever setup just open the disc to start the installation process guide to setup the router step by step, Ignore all the free trial crap and Antivirus stuff. The Firewall should be enabled and I think it already comes like that so thats a +1. Again Buy this from CISCO not a third party site.

Unless you like re-setting the router daily becuase the wireless gets dropped, then look elsewhere. Sad that a major router manufacturer could put out such a lousy unit, and not recall it.

it works ok for wired setups but will not broadcast an internet connection to any of my wireless devices, ive messed around in the setup to see if there is anything i can do to fix this problem but everything ive tried has not worked. i would not recommend this router at all.

Update New Year's Day 2010: Bought Apple AirPort Express from my brother, and had difficulty getting it to work, but after some time (this update applies to the day I got it to work, not the day received) having changed the configuration, it works faster than my old NETGEAR, which isn't a good router, as even technicians at local retailers know of the same problem--power supply going out cold. Having not the education in electronics engineering (for instance), I am taking a wild guess an overheating transistor or faulty circuit after being connected a while. I am not planning to review the Airport card on Amazon; however, I would rate it four stars for some learning curve the NETGEAR didn't require, but for performance, five stars. Now things of the past (original review when first posted)...Have an older NETGEAR that started clocking out and in need of occasional reset, which became annoying quickly. Had no idea what the local Target store had in stock, so I bought this Linksys WRT120N and checked the reviews here on Amazon before opening the package. To no surprise, once I realized that the reviews looked iffy but did not do much reading (as I was excited to replace the 'defective' NETGEAR), I proceeded in installation.The Cisco wizard went through and verified the connection between the network and the router was OK (Mac Pro using 10.4 X and later as required--I was using 'Tiger'), but to no avail, it did not detect an Internet connection. I tried the settings and went through the basic instructions carefully at least three times with no luck of connecting. Even tried known settings via the router's IP address, no such luck there either.Another reviewer suggested to hold the middle button on top of the router while plugging in and then waiting for the lights to light up. That didn't work (but thanks for the suggestion anyhow). Did this on my older IBM laptop Think Pad--same result--I can't go online, and can't repair the connection.Two days later, I returned the product to the local Target store. Very disappointed--and at least my old NETGEAR is working for the most part (will do for now).Maybe you would have better luck than I did. I rated this product 2 stars because the network/router connection check passed, but can't go online. Maybe if it at least worked some of the time, then I would maybe rate it 3 or 4. (I would rate my 'current' NETGEAR three or four stars.)If you have any suggestions on a very reliable router (doesn't matter what price--whatever will be easy to install and be powerful enough for streaming music and YouTube video, for instance), please comment. Thank you.I'd not recommend this product to a novice user or someone without the patience to deal with what I just went through.

I think this router is incredibly easy to set up. But so was its predecessor - and THAT one didn't require an installation disk. This model WRT120N installs a "trial" of Network Magic, which took over my networking (even though I chose the option not to download and use it) and automatically starts up every time I turn on wireless. I hope it doesn't boot at startup, but I know how to disable that from running misconfig.I do like how setup forced me to change password, network name and network security key. My last router didn't automatically walk me through the steps in doing that. I had to learn how by reading other websites.Overall, this router does what it's supposed to (at least that's what my experience has been so far the last few weeks) and it looks a lot cooler than the cheesy purple dinosaur of a router. I haven't had to reset this router (the last one, I had to reset at least once a week. Not sure if it was the router itself or if Comcast just sucks...)

This router is the biggest pain in the ass. Several times a day, I will have to go and reset this thing. Sometimes I have to wait five minutes before it will work properly. Even then, Ill get ten minutes or so before I have to do it again. Other times, it works just fine all day. Im shopping for a new one. This one is worthless.

Design and setup was easy also price is good but something wrong with DHCP. I can't connect to the Internet. Connecting and disconnecting automatically or I must restart router to access Internet. Firmware was 1.0.0.1, I updated firmware from 1.0.0.1 to 1.0.0.5 but problems not resolved. So I think it's Router problem or we need new firmware to fix this DHCP problems.I have enough skill to configure Home routers so problem not comes from me. If I am wrong and someone can fix this problem I'll be glad to hear this.BTW I also used Static IP but I have same problems. I had talk to Cisco live support but they said WRT120N not supported, this is old model!So Read this review before pay.Thanks

I used to always use Linksys routers for home and work. This router has totally ruined their good name in my mind. I won't be buying their products anymore. We have to reset the darn thing every few days. Newer firmware hasn't helped.

It gets disconnected very often -- seems related to the firmware. All firmwares later than 1.0.04 seem to have this problem. A stable version is 1.0.02. The old WRT54G series is much better.

This is a terrible router, it's not easy to set up or use and it frequently crashes. I've wasted way too much time with this piece of junk trying to get it to work and finally got an apple airport extreme. I wouldn't use a cisco router again if they were giving them away!

Although I am technically astute, this was my first venture into the world of home-based WiFi. I conducted some initial research on various series types, brands, etc., and felt this product fit my needs--so I purchased it.Then...I read the reviews on here and seriously considered returning it. The vast majority of reviews on here detailed doom and gloom and a product that does not work. Would I be among those who end up spending (as one reviewer stated) 6+ hours on the phone with technical support, only to have horrible performance?My results? It took me less than five minutes to set up. A few clicks of a button during the install wizard, and it was set up. But would it work. First I tried my laptop in another room. Worked perfectly. Then I moved the laptop to the opposite end of the house (approx. 1000 feet away through 5-6 walls). Worked perfectly. I set up my kids DSIs, their Wii, etc. and for the past month everything has worked great.I even went next door with my laptop and had a great connection.So...I'm unsure about the results by other reviewers, but I can say this product has met my expectations and then some.

Easy to install, set up and use, but time-consuming to remove and re-insert the power plug to reset, which is what you will need to do several times per day to re-establish a connection. If I could give it less than 1 star in that category, I would be tempted. Since I believe a router should be "out of sight, out of mind" unless you need to physically change power or ethernet connections, it doesn't work for me. If you purchase this router, I would place it directly in front of you, facing the rear of the unit, and while you're at it, put some WD-40 on the power plug.

I spent over 3 hours trying many different settings and I still can't get my kindle to connect to this router. After searching google for a while I'll I could find are other people with the same problem but no one with an answer to it!

This is perfect for anyone considering an AP. It is true that it is used but it is almost guaranteed that it will outlast any consumer line product for 2 or 3 times the money. This reduced my down time to zero under load, which is what really matters. will buy again in a heartbeat.

I did a lot of research prior to buying this router. It was extremely easy to set up, and is easy to use. However, once the 14 day trial period for the Network Magic software expired (and I'm not even sure what the trial was for), reliability has become a problem. I've had to use the wizard that came with the router software to reset the router at least 3 times because of connective issues. The range has never changed, so it's not a matter of signal strength being low (signal strength is always excellent).Overall, I'm disappointed with my purchase because I expected reliability. I do have several items connected to the network (printer, cell phone, laptop, and Wii), so that I'm pleased with, and the price was right.

In the 6-8 months I have had this router I have had to have technical support numerous times. Once I even had to pay an additional $10 to have them help me with THEIR product. They said they would replace it, then promptly informed me that the warranty expired two days ago!!! I will NEVER buy another Cisco/Linksys product again!!!

Purchased yesterday. Failed to properly install. I called Cisco support and 30 minutes later it was limping along, with most of my home wireless network remaining unconnected. The Cisco support lady was doggedly persistent in trying to get me to purchase a $69 support service from Supportix. I relented mostly because I needed to speed up one of four computers on out home network. We have two XPs, one Vista, and one iMac. I then spent 3 hours on the phone with Supportix, got four computers working but still no printers. Then, this morning, nothing is working again. Now I am reading amazon comments and seeing that nearly everyone, including IT experts, are having the same kinds of problems! I went to Cisco's support chat and refused to sit through another hour of tweaking this dead horse and just asked they work it out with Supportix to return my up-sold and useless support. I will return this useless, time-wasting abomination to my soon to be unhappy retailer for a return of the purchase price. I am an experienced technology user and worked in computer design for 20 years.

Великолепно
This router was amazingly easy to install. I inserted the CD that came with it and followed all directions. It found everything I asked it to automatically, unlike my previous router that was extremely hard for anyone that doesn't have a thorough knowledgy of computers. I bought this on recommendation from a friend that has one just like this.

Ужасно
I get kicked offline almost every day. I have to unplug and reset this thing every day of my life. I wrote this because I had uploaded 89% of an 820mb file and got booted. I want to smash this thing and rip it open with my teeth before cooking its pieces and eating them. It must be destroyed. I will write a follow-up when I have enough money to buy a working router and I can torture this one to death. Do not buy it. I hate Linksys.

Saw this for dirt cheap and got it. Read some reviews and was skeptical but haven't ever had a single problem with it for almost 2 years. My last Linksys router was a BEFSR41 and it was horrible, always had to reboot it or it would drop my ISP network connections. THis one has yet to let me down. I really have nothing negative to say about it. It just works.

I purchased this router yesterday at my local computer shop (at their recommendation), in anticipation of receiving my iPad2 next week. Popped the instructional CD in my computer's drive, followed the instructions, connected it to my DLS modem, and in no time at all it was up and running. Confirmed this with a little Acer Netbook (Windows 7 starter version), which picked up the signal throughout the house. Haven't taken the netbook outdoors yet (too snowy), so I'm not sure about the signal's distance, but what the heck, it does what it's supposed to do and was a breeze to install. This is my first venture into WiFi at home - really cool!

After reading the reviews on this product I though for sure I would be sending it back.But I ran the setup program (which took all of 5 mins)and have been using thisrouter without a problem for a month now.I'm sure there are better routers out there but for the money you can't beat this one.
