I guess alot of people had trouble with theirs but mine has always worked fine. It's alot faster surfing with this "N" router compared to the "G" router I had before and it was easy to setup with the included Network Magic CD. I did uninstall the Network Magic after the installation setup because of all the "buy full version" pop-up windows but that's no big deal it doesn't have to be installed for the router to work. I have it connected to a WebStar cable modem and we have several computers, a tablet, smart phones, and a DVD player connecting to it wirelessly with no problems at all. I highly recommend the Linksys WRT120N wireless router.

I used a Linksys router happily for many years. Last year it seemed to start to go South, and I wanted to upgrade to a N router anyway. So, I bought another Linksys router from Sam's Club. I noticed it also had the Cisco name on it.That should have clued me that something was very different. It's been a POS from the day I bought it. It continuously dropped the wifi and had to be reset. Just for fun, it would occasionally also drop the LAN, and for even more hilarity, it would sometimes dump all my settings and reset to the factory defaults. A cumulative 1/2 day with "Bob" and "Mike" in Bhopal, and several firmware reflashings helped, but did not completely fix the problems. The 3rd Level Tech basically told me "It sucks to be you" as the warranty had expired while I was screwing with "Bob" and "Mike". Lately, I've noticed the router now has the range of a thrown spit wad. If I wasn't so damn cheap and busy, I'd buy a non-Cisco router and take a 3 pound mal to this abortion. I give the router a two star [Update: zero star] review because, with all the work, it has barely crawled above the Line of Suck.Due to their cheap equipment and ####-poor Customer Service, I'll never buy Cisco again. May they fly United.[Update] That's it, I'm done with this POS and cr@ptastic company. The WiFi Protected Setup (WPS)standard has a security flaw which allows hackers to quickly gain access to a router. The best fix is to simply turn off WPS, which works with most routers. Think Cisco did it right? You obviously don't have a Cisco router. Turning off WPS does absolutely nothing on a Cisco router, the security hole remains. Cisco's cynical recommendation: turn off the wireless networking completely! They'll have a firmware fix in a couple of months... or not. Until then, your router is completely vulnerable.I'm done. I'm immediately buying a new non-Cisco router, probably a Medialink. Then I'm going to take the 120 out on the stoop and beat the Cisco out of it.

I'm a great fan of Linksys wireless routers. I have a closet full of older WRT54G models, whose reliability and versatility enticed me to continue buying Linksys. However this model, WRT120N, is without question the crappiest piece of hardware I have ever owned. It doesn't support raw 256-bit WPA keys, it can't route Bonjour multicast packets. It needs to be rebooted after handling 500G-1TB of traffic. For the past several months I thought my new ISP was flaky, because every WAN TCP connection would be disconnected after a few hours. Turns out it was the WRT120N. It gets poor throughput over wireless, and the range is short and unreliable. I loathe this router.

I own a small computer and network company and have replaced several of these routers for customers. The router is unstable and will quit working frequently. Last week I had my trusty wrt54g die after a power outage at my house, when the power came back on a wired device (nettalk) must have allowed a surge into the router and killed it. I did not have any other wireless routers in stock at my business and with kids needing internet for school I was forced to go to wally world to pick up a router. The only thing they had in stock was a belkin and this linksys. I chose the linksys. (a tough choice, but the belkins have been even more problematic with Time Warner)I installed the router through the web interface using the same settings as my dead router and it went smoothly. I updated the firmware and reconnected all of my devices things worked well for a short while. When the family began using the internet the wireless quit working and I had to reset the router. It needs reset (power on and off) at least twice a day and it must be reset every morning when we wake up before it will work.If I didn't need this quickly I would not have purchased this. Three days later I received my stock of WRT54GL routers and also a TP-LINK. I kept the WRT120N hooked up for four more days because I wanted to try some things to make it stable and do some in house testing. I never was able to get it to be stable. I replaced it with a new WRT54GL and it worked flawlessly for three days, after three days I installed the TP-LINK router to test and it has worked flawlessly, the range is better on the TP-Link also. The WRT120N went back to walmart after I had a chance to verify that this router was as bad as I had suspected.

I dont know what other people are saying but this router has been going strong for close to 2 years and all I've needed to do is reboot about once a month. I does help if you are a bit savvy in regards to IT, but hell just type in the IP, name & password and you have all the controls you need to set this thing up. In my humble opinion, a great product.

I bought this router some months ago and I stopped using it because my DSL company gave me a Modem/Router which was pretty decent, though it has the shortest range I've ever seen on any router. After some time my girlfriend wanted to start using her laptop on a different room sometimes so I had to plug the WRT120n back in.In a few words, this router is the worst router I've ever seen. I thought at first that my unit in particular was defective, but reading reviews here and on other sites, my problems are the same as everybody else's. If you want this router to work, you have to tweak it so much that you end up with a non 802.11n, non WPA2 and in my case, with the firewall disabled. After disabling all those features the router is usable, though it still fails and I have to restart it almost every week. If this was a 802.11g router from 7 years ago which didn't have the option of using WPA2 and an integrated firewall, I would give it 2 stars, because even though it fails, it's not THAT bad.

I am not new to networking of any type and this router is junk. I have had nothing but issues with it from the time I purchased it. The first thing I did was update firmware to try and fix issues. No dice. Then tried adjusting countless settings from network type to security settings to frequency. Still has connection problems. Listen to the stars on this product. It is very poor. I cant believe these companies would put their names on this product!

the wrt120n router worked fine with my laptop for 2 years. I just bought the Kindle Fire HD. It would not connect at first so I called Cisco. They had my records right there and showed me how to find the Cisco router password which I did not know. Connected immediately. At first they wanted to charge $29 but then realized it was as simple as showing me my password so they did not charge. Excellent router and support.

I've had 3 or 4 Linksys routers total, and all had issues with completely dropping the wireless signal at random times, and needing to be reset. This newest one is even worse, now dropping the signal about once every other day. (Like with the others, it started out better, and gradually got worse. I've had this one for maybe a year or so, now.) Luckily, I don't use the wireless signal for my main work.Other than that, the signal only reaches the back of my average-sized American house intermittently (about 50ft distance), and we get no signal at all in the backyard. We could move the router to the center of the house, to reach at least the back wall, but we currently hard-wire it to 4 things, which we don't want to move. (We'd have to re-drill and move *all* the CAT-5 cables in the house.)I WOULD buy routers from other companies, but every time I need a new one, I read the reviews, and they're all around the same level of trash.

This router most definitely does not live up to its name.I chose it from a variety of routers because of its specs, and because Linksys is known to produce good routers. This one, however, seems to be "Cisco-Linksys", and something went wrong there. As soon as I plugged it in, I had internet connection. Nonetheless over the days my connection became intermitent, on and off all the time. I set up DHCP configuration, to give you an IP automatically. It does not work, I had to set up everything manually, something only one out of 20 people knows how to do. Especially annoying seeing as DHCP is enabled. Nothing is auto, all has to be done by hand. Signal is OK, but then again my house isn't all that big, and when I go outside, signal drops so I wouldn't recommend it for a building with several floors. Whenever friends come over I give them the password and none of them can connect, the router just rejects connections. Every now and then it doesn't even broadcast, it just says Connection Timeout. My roommate lost the receipt and I'm not going to fight over the phone for this junk. I'll go buy something else tomorrow (it's been one-two weeks with this Linksys), be it a Belkin or a proper Linksys router. They say if something is not broken don't try to fix it. I can see how my old Belkin was great. I end up having to tinker around the configuration page of this Linksys every day, I tried every configuration and none works normally.Save yourself the trouble and buy a different router. This one does not connect properly, has low signal through floors, and the configuration doesn't even work right. Transmission rates are good, I get 1040 kb/s from my 10MB connection though. Useless however when it doesn't even let me make use of it!

The installation was easy, especially on my win7 machine, although it takes a bit more work on my win xp machine, but its still pretty easy to install compare to other routers I have. However since the day 1 i got this router, the wifi connection from this router will disconnect every hour or so. I have tried several settings including updating the firmware, try different frequency, and several other options, none of it makes any different. I even thought the problem was coming from my ISP, but when I am using wired connection with this machine, I never hav any problem. I eventually got another cisco router(a different model), however still having the exact same problem. I am surprised to see such terrible products coming out of Cisco... the Cisco routers I got around 10 years works great, never have any problem..

I had the same frustration many have expressed here and elsewhere and none of the settings people recommended worked for me. It was dropping the connection about every hour. What finally worked for me, the same day I bought a Belkin replacement router (of course) is I changed the setting "SSID Broadcast" to Disabled. That's ALL I did. In fact, as I tried various settings I would always have to reboot the router to test them. When I changed the SSID Broadcast option my iPad and phone immediately connected without me having to reboot the router. Oh, and my firmware is, of course, latest and greatest.Hope it works for you. And, as for the review, stay away. I will do my best never to purchase a Cisco product again based on the limited and unsuccessful support attention this issue has received.

I bought this item from Sam's Club. I had a prior dlink router (dir-615), which worked well, but the only problem was that I had bought one of those Nettalk Duos to replace my Vonage. I couldn't get the Nettalk to work w/ the dlink router. The setup was easy, but then within a couple weeks, I started having problems. I would lose either the internet connection, or there would be a message on my devices to reenter the router pw. Here is my setup: linksys cable modem to linksys router (WRT120N). From the router, I have the Nettalk Duo coming out of port 3. There are 3 laptops in my network that I connect wirelessly. I have a HP wireless printer, and I use my iPhone to connect to the wireless system.I tried updating the firmware (1.0.04) but was unsuccessful no matter how much I tried. I reconfigured the system several times. I could get a stable internet connection for at most 2 weeks, but then all my computers can connect to the wireless, but there was no internet connection. By resetting the cable modem, powering down the router, modem and computer, I could reestablish internet connectivity, but it is an incredible pain. It seems that every week or so, I have to do this. There are times that from my iphone, I would have to reenter the wireless password. When I'd enter it, I could not get the wireless to connect. I would then have to power cycle the router, and then it would be fine. All of this is incredibly frustrating.Today, after losing internet connection again, I downloaded the firmware upgrade from the Linksys website, and was finally able to upgrade the firmware to 1.0.05. I don't know if the problems will be resolved. We'll have to see. If I lose connection again, this is item is going back to Sam's and I'll have to try another. I never had these problems with the dlink router. When everything is connected, I get an excellent, fast connection. It's the episodic drops in internet connection that give this item a low rating.Update 3/12/11:After upgrading the firmware to 1.0.05, the router is working much better, and I haven't yet had to reset the router/modem. However, I connect my iPhone 3G to the wireless, and everynow and then, I get the message that it could not connect to my network, or that my password is incorrect. If I powercycle the router, I can reconnect. For whatever reason, my laptops maintain connection to the network. I don't know if this is a problem w/ the iPhone or the router. Anyways, I'll raise my rating from a 2 stars to 4 stars.

Had other linksys products, but this one simply doesnt worth the investment, there are tricks to make it work however there are other products around without such issues, with this device you can expect frequent disconnections, and its settings are very limited ( it doesnt even allow mac encapsulation routing and as PPPoE doesnt allow to use a static ip either) as modem, and as router is also limited compared to linksys routers.

Hey, it's not all bad with this router. The worst case scenario is that the router would blow up in my face as I'm plugging it in. And that didn't happen, so this router deserves at least one star because it didn't kill me. As far as fulfilling it's duties as a router, save your money, and go outside, pick up a rock, and use that as a router. The rock will have more features, be more reliable, and will make you feel a lot less guilty for the purchase. So when you inevitably have to replace your faulty router, you aren't out fifty bucks or whatever this piece of shite costs.
