This is an amazing pancake lens. It is a great addition to my setup. I love the compact size, it's light weight and the build quality. I am very pleased with the sharpness. I love it for video, STM is virtually silent.

This is one of the first lenses i got for my Canon SL2 and I'm so happy I did. I use this lens for so much. The price on this is a steal and I definitely recommend it for anyone that is starting out.

Inizio dicendo che io ho provato questo 24mm e il 50mm su una canon2000D. L'obbiettivo ha dei pro e alcuni contro(sopratutto paragonandolo con il 50mm):
PRO:
-leggero e piccolo
-ottimo per fotografie da interni e paesaggi sia grazie alla luminosità che all'angolo di visione(è un 24mm ma su aps-c diventa circa 38mm) quindi vantaggioso rispetto un 50mm che non permette foto in luoghi con poco spazio
-messa a fuoco silenziosa
-qualità dell'immagine bella ma forse un 50mm dà più soddisfazione
-con tanta luce è più semplice da usare di un 50mm perché meno luminoso e si farà più fatica a bruciare le zone più luminose (consiglio comunque di fotografare in RAW e poi di elaborare le foto con lightroom)
CONTRO:
-in controluce la messa a fuoco può far fatica
-l'effetto sfuocato pensavo fosse più presente essendo 2.8 ma invece rispetto il 50mm(che però è 1.8) c'è un abisso
-le immagini sono nitide ma non quanto un 50mm
In sostanza se uno può permetterselo economicamente consiglio di comprare sia un 50mm sia questo 24mm in quanto sono complementari e in base alle situazioni si può decidere quale usare.
Se invece bisogna scegliere uno dei due:
-50mm per ritratti(all'aperto o perlomeno dove si ha molto spazio visto che su aps-c diventa un 75mm) dove si vuole un bell'effetto sfuocato
-24mm per ritratti dove si ha poco spazio(con un effetto sfuocato nettamente ridotto) e per foto di paesaggi
-Per lo street-photography sono belli entrambi ma bisogna tenere conto dei pro e dei contro
Comunque hanno entrambi un'ottima qualità prezzo(100-150€) e li consiglio

I’ve been using this lens as my everyday lens for a month now, and love the deep bokeh possible at f/2.8. I bought this instead of the “nifty-fifty” EF lens as it is similar considering the crop factor, in both focal distance and especially aperture. The 50mm f/1.8 becomes an f/2.9 on an EF-S body. The 35mm macro would be a closer match but considerably more expensive. Of course with the 35mm you get image stabilization and the ability to do extreme closeups.
Picture quality is likely somewhat better than the kit lens, but when I use a RAW editor, I don’t notice a great difference; the benefits are in better low light functionality, less chromatic aberration, and deeper bokeh.
I recommend this lens to anyone looking to get a nice decently wide prime lens on a budget.

Ho tirato fuori dall'armadio la vecchia ma valida eos 350d aps-c e ho cominciato a fare street photography. Però col battery grip e il tamron 24/70 non sempre passavo innosservato. Ho rivoluzionato l'approccio togliendo battery grip e sostituendo l'ottica con questa. Ora sembra una compatta evoluta. Poi per chi come me ha una certa eta' avere un solo obbiettivo fisso e non uno zoom è un tornare alle origini perché una volta le reflex venivano vendute col 50 mm, ottica alla quale questa a conti fatti si avvicina (24*1.6=38).
Non sempre da ragazzi si riusciva ad acquistare subito una seconda ottica e questo fattore ci portava, nostro malgrado, a divenire "esperti" fotografi perché col solo 50 mm dovevamo coprire alla meglio tutti gli ambiti fotografici, avvicinandoci o allontanandoci dal soggetto. Ecco, questa è un ' ottica che porta a fare questo non potendo zoomare comodamente da lontano. A questo punto consiglio anche, ai giovani, di provare virtualmente il fascino della pellicola simulandola con pochi accorgimenti: oscurare lo schermo così da non controllare lo scatto, imporsi un valore ISO, qualsivoglia, e non cambiarlo al variare dell'illuminazione e, importantissimo, scattare SOLO 36 scatti, che era la misura del rullino. Avere a disposizione solo 36 scatti e, ancora meglio, scattare in manuale o al massimo in priorità tempi o diaframmi, ma non in automatico, può solo far bene alla fotografia vostra e allo spirito di chi poi guarderà quanto prodotto.
CONCLUSIONE: l'ottica fa il suo dovere alla grande ed anche a tutta apertura mi è parsa avere una vignettatura contenuta peraltro presente anche in altre ottiche ben più costose. Per il costo tutto sommato contenuto non mi sono lamentato dell'assenza del paraluce. Anche lì questione di abitudine perché una volta erano sempre venduti separatamente. Un filtro uv lo consiglio per protezione agli urti. Dopo di che via, uscire a scattare variando orari e meteo con la consapevolezza di avere un ottica che se usata bene si presta a qualsiasi genere di fotografia.

Great little lens for video and photography. It is very small and light weight so i makes a great walk around lens. Combine this lens (any STM) with any Canon DLSR that has movie AF servo (auto focusing) and lens is relatively quiet, it still makes noise that internal camera mic picks up. At f/2.8 the lens makes noise as it hunts. At f/5.6 and higher the lens makes less noise as it doesn't hunt to focus as much. However, if you get an external mic like a Rode Video Micro it helps cut the lens noise. There are other STM lenses like the 50mm STM f/1.8 and the 40mm STM f/2.8. I like the 24mm f/2.8 the best of them all for video.

I have been using 24mm lens mostly for landscape and group photos. It is a versatile lens. At f2.8 @24mm, it does cover a lot of space and also at the same time gives decent bokeh affect. Lens is good for taking room photos where there is not enough space. Very lightweight and silent. If you are confused between 50mm f1.8 and 24mm f2.8, I would suggest to get both as both serve different purposes :).
PS: I am no longer using the 18-55mm kit lens after buying this one :) as the picture quality of this lens is far better than kit lens.

Versatile lens
Good for photography in room and tighter conditions
Cons:
Less background bokeh as it max out at f2.8
Overall good lens to have in the kit.

If you have kit lens 18 55 then no need to buy this.. Just waste of money. Same result like kit lens. Use kit lens for indoor. And buy 50mm for outdoor. 50mm really worth.. Note:- i m experience about film making.

I was looking or a prime for my 70D and am very pleased with this choice. I found using my 18-55mm lens that most of my shots were taken around 24mm. So I thought i'd give it a try. It was delivered quickly in the original box, and has been my go to ever since. the 2.8 f stop is good enough for most night shots. It's so compact it's easy to take anywhere.

Semplicemente magnifico. Ovviamente paragonato al costo. Chiaro che poi dovete usare Lightroom o simili per correggere vignettatura e distorsione, ma a questo prezzo una lente cosi e’ un must da avere. Non puo’ mancare in nessun corredo. La mia 70D sembra una compatta. E’ stupendo per scattare la sera, in citta’ o in interni. Compratelo.

This lens will transform the way you take photos; literally. Being a ~35mm FOV, the lens sees a similar frame to what our eyes does and this one factor makes a world of a difference.
STM focusing is a little on the noisier side and not as smooth as the efs 10-18 or efs 18-135, however it is quick and precise and will rarely cause an annoyance.
Having f2.8 means this lens is an excellent night/indoor companion and pair this with the light weight and small size, it’s truly a wonderful piece of gear to have!
PS: writing this review after using this for well over three months.

Great lens, very lightweight and compact but sturdy build quality. Takes great photos. A nice lens option when you are working in relatively close quarters and don't want to be burdened down with equipment. I use it on my Canon 70D. I was able to pick it up for just over $200, which I think is a very reasonable price for this lens.

Pros: My favourite daily-use lens for product photography, portraits, buildings, street photography and even selfies! I've stopped reaching for the 50mm and my 40mm lies unused. The 18-55 is completely forgotten. I suggest buying the camera body alone and this lens, and forgetting the 18-55, 50mm and 40mm.
I use it with my Canon 60D. Despite narrower aperture than the 50mm, the 24mm needs even less light. I can get away with just adjusting the AEB settings by a point or two in low light, and not touching aperture, ISO and shutter speed, without flash. Close-up shots are, needless to say, much easier than with the 50mm or 40mm. I don't need a macro lens to photograph coins and watches. Since the 24mm has greater DOF than the 50mm lens, I can actually manage to take selfies (until my arm hurts from the camera weight)!
The lens weighs and measures next to nothing, so I don't have to carry my huge camera bag along; it fits nicely with the camera in my daily handbag. Less noisy than the 50mm (I mean literal sound, not grain!), the lens feels sturdy and not as cheap as the 50mm did. It fits more securely than the other two.
I have managed to take decent videos with this - better quality than my Sony Handycam.
This lens and my zoom lens are all I will need at my level!
Cons: No IS. But that's expected at this price, and I've had fewer shaky shots thanks to the lightweight lens.

I chose this lens because I thought it would provide both smaller size and superior optical quality to the 18-55 kit lens. While it is very light and handy, when tested it was not appreciably sharper than the kit lens, so I returned it. That is more a reflection of the quality of the 18-55 than a knock against the 24 f2.8 pancake -- which may be perfect for some applications.

Obiettivo pancake compatto e solido. Motore di messa a fuoco STM velocissimo e precisissimo (mai riscontrato problemi di b/f focus). Potete scattare tranquillamente anche a f/2.8, la nitidezza al centro è già quasi massima. Ottimo contrasto, il trattamento antiriflesso fa il suo ottimo lavoro. Prezzo in linea con le aspettative. Presente vignettatura, risolvibile facilmente in post-produzione. Grazie alla ridotta focale, su APS-C vi permette di fare quasi tutto, paesaggi, street e qualche ritratto ambientato. Non proprio adatto ai primi piani (non si riesce mai a sfuocare completamente lo sfondo), per quello meglio 50mm o 85mm.

Recieved on time. I use camera with APS-C sensor, so its effective/actual focal length becomes 38mm, which is close to standard 35mm focal length used by many for street, portrait, and to some extent landscape photography as well. It's a very versatile lense that way. Picture quality is much better than standard kit lens 18-55mm. It's a best general purpose lens and a must have.

24 mm is awesome lens if you want a lens for everyday photography.This lens will be helpful if you are in very tight space where your 50 mm can’t help .Picture quality is not good as 50 mm but worth as it is very small ,produce good quality images and easy to fit in your bag with camera when you are travelling and don’t want too much to carry .Good for travel ,street and food photography.

It is one of my favourite lens after 50mm which I also bought from here.
If you are looking for a lens something more wider than 50mm but without much loosing nifty fifty look. That's in simple language.

The lens arrived without a seal and invoice and its not fitting on my camera smoothly i have to use force to screw it on . I have three other lens and they all fit on smoothly in a fluid moting but not this lens . It feels like i am fitting on a rusty tight screw cap. (just found out, after months of use metal lens do behave that way So in all after using it for some monnths is a great lens and super sharp

I prefer the nifty 50mm to this lens, but this lens is better if you don't have much space to back away from your subject, or you're out on vacation and need a small lens. It is also, usually better for landscape photos and run-and-gun street photography. I have also used it for music videos, but it's hard to use with manual focus while filming videos since the focus ring is very narrow.

At first I thought why would I need this lens when I have the Canon 18-55 mm EFS STM lens. I also can do reverse macro with theach 18-55 mm. Then I decided to buy this lens too. It took me awhile to decide. I can use this to do reverse macro and get a lot more light on my subjects and creates a better bokeh then the 18-55 mm. Plus with extension tube I get still more light with the 24 mm then I would with the 18-55 mm. And less bulk.

Great optical quality. A bit soft at 2.8 but becomes super sharp at f4 plus. Picture quality, contrast and color reproductions are just fantastic. I wish it also has image stabilization for a very low light situation. But for this price the lens if fantastic.
