Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM?:
Canon RP/R8.

While the camera is more of a general use camera, if you understand how to set shutter speed, then you can get shots of moving subjects such as your dog or kids.
For the price, this camera is a real bargain. You get the beautiful Canon color and easy to use ergonomics. It is weaker in low light than many of it's competitors - that would be my only negative comment.
Again, to repeat: YOU CAN SHOOT AND PROCESS RAW FILES WITH THIS CAMERA JUST LIKE ALL OTHER SIMILAR CAMERAS.
I think the body is a little cheapy feeling. The ergonomics are good and you really dont need the extra bottom plate unless you have gigantic hands. It has a good grip and as everyone has mentioned, its very light. Of course until you add some big EF lenses. Other than the nice grip it tends to remind me of a Sony in that everything is minimal, controls are flush to the body, all black. I would have prefered a little better leatherette cover, and some more slr like controls. However, im being picky here and this would all affect the size and weight of the camera.
The EVF is a top notch feature. For landscapes in particular, there really has been no other way but Live View through the LCD, but that has changed. You can almost forget about the rear LCD except for certain purposes, the EVF is that good. It allows you to control everything and see everything including exposure. You can see in the EVF whether the sky is blown out etc. And thanks to drag and focus, you can easily move the focus point , get the exposure you like and lock it in with exposure lock. It is very much like having a peephole LCD. Big points for this.
The autofocus is excellent and you can have a combination of them in place at the same time. The eye detect focus from my limited use is very fast and does a great job. If you want to to change the focus, just touch your LCD while looking through the EVF and you can move it, almost anywhere in the frame.
There are a number of other great features such as focus bracketing that ive yet to try, but that one has the potential to be great. So all that being said, lets get to the image quality.
Anyone moving from an aps-c to full frame Im sure will be very impressed with the RP. With a good lens you cant beat that combination of razor sharp and creamy soft that full frame offers. The colors of course are very good as expected, and here is a surprize. I was expecting the DR to be a real downer but its not. I convert to dng and edit in other programs other than DPP and i was surprised at how much range there is. Its certainly not class leading, but it is very respectable. If you need more than this, you really took a bad exposure. The low light performance is very good, and you can get very respectable images even beyond 12800 ISO with a little work. Now i have to say this, for whatever reason, i still prefer the images of the original 6D. I cant say exactly why, a combination of the tone, color and what i like to call the creaminess is still better for me on the 6D. But again I am splitting hairs. For the most part, the RP is capable of producing images rivaling the best of Canons full frame cameras. And it has a lot of practical convenience features that make this one hell of a camera for the price.
Unless you plan on only shooting in JPEG, do not buy this camera.
The autofocus and shutter (there is a lag or delay when you press the shutter) are so slow on this camera, don't even think about trying to capture moving subjects. I tried to shoot my dog jumping in broad daylight, and it was impossible. Nothing but complete blur. Also, because it is completely digital, the viewfinder and image display shut off after you take a shot, as it is processing. The viewfinder itself is also digital as well...which totally negates the purpose of having a viewfinder...
This camera is also completely useless in low light. Don't even think about increasing the ISO to 10,000. Also, the max shutter speed is only 1/4000.
And this camera is a manual focus dream! It will highlight whatever is in focus -- it's better than any manual focus camera ever was. And because there is no mirror, you can fit small Leica lenses.
Want autofocus? It has a superb AF system that covers 80% of the frame. It's really a wonderful camera.
My only complaint -- and it's a big one -- is that the battery life is really awful. 1/3 that of a 5d Mk III, I'd guess. So buy some spares.
I still have my 80d but am having a hard time finding a reason to still use it. I think my daughter will like it.
Still, it gets 4 stars for being able to produce high-quality images for a good price.
Therefore, my search for a new camera began. I seriously debated nearly every camera in this price range from every manufacturer. Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic, you name it. However, it seemed like they all had one fatal flaw to them. Sony with their weird coloring, Fujifilm with the overheating issues, Panasonic with the awful autofocus. Some were better at photos, some were better at video. However, I needed something that would do great with both, as I wanted this to be something I could shoot professional portraits with but also shoot vlogs. At the end of the day, all signs pointed to this camera, and I'm so glad this is the one I chose.
I'm not a super-advanced user, however, I do think I've moved past the beginner stage of photography and videography. I think this camera really fits me perfectly as I'm not incredibly overwhelmed with options and features that I don't know how to use, but it still has a ton of capability that allows me to learn more about photography and videography. I've also just been using the 24-105 kit lens that comes with this bundle on Amazon.
The video on this is amazing. HUGE step up from the T3i. The face detecting autofocus works great and nearly all of my shots are perfectly in focus unless it's super dark which it has a little more of a struggle with but obviously any camera would. I was a little hesitant about the fairly disabled 4k capability with this camera due (disabled dual pixel AF, crop factor, 30 min time limit, 30 fps max) especially since other cameras in the price range have a more robust 4k capability. However, I've found that 1080p meets my needs just fine and looks absolutely gorgeous. It's also much more friendly on the file size and processing in video editing.
The photo capability has shocked me even more than the video. I knew this would obviously be a great camera for photos, but I didn't realize what a step up from my T3i it would be. I honestly thought my T3i photos would look just about as good as this camera since the T3i does admittedly take amazing photos. However, this blows it out of the water. The autofocus on this is SO much better. With the T3i, fast moving subjects were nearly impossible to get in focus. This does so much better. The full-frame sensor on this camera makes a huge difference too. The low light performance is so much better and the size of these photos is insane. You can zoom in to the photos so much and it's still amazingly clear.
As for the body of the camera itself, it feels incredibly well made. Grabbing my T3i now feels like a cheap plastic toy compared to this thing. It feels very solid and durable. The grip on the camera is incredibly easy and comfortable to hold.
The only negative thing I've encountered so far is the kit lens that comes with this bundle doesn't have a physical switch between autofocus and manual focus. You have to go into the camera settings to switch between them. I don't find myself doing this very often as the autofocus is amazing but when I do need manual focus it's a little bit of an inconvenience.
Overall, it's an amazing camera and I'm very happy that I went with this one.
Positives:
- The biggest selling point of the RP is that it's a full frame mirrorless camera. A full frame camera will help you out for wider shots as well as low-light situations. You simply won't find a better full frame camera at this price. And better yet, it's made by Canon! Canon is known for their world-class customer service and overall quality of their products.
- Being a Canon camera, the RP also uses Canon's color science and lens lineup. I know it's subjective, but many professional photographers and videographers will tell you that Canon's color science is the industry gold-standard. Canon's RF lenses are also some of the greatest glass ever made. They will add onto the cost by quite a bit, so just be prepared and plan ahead.
- The overall build quality and the feel of the camera is amazing: each button and dial feels great to press and has a certain firmness to it. The entire body is very light and thin so it won't take up much space in your bag or weigh it down.
- The swiveling touch screen is fantastic, extremely responsive, and bright. I use it all the time when I'm facing the camera and it's better than having a tilt-up screen and (obviously) a non-moving screen.
- The electronic viewfinder is large and almost lag-free. I was surprised at how well this EVF works, as I thought the lag would be much worse. I was very pleasantly surprised. I had no issues looking through it for extended periods of time, too.
- There are so many other things to like about the EOS RP that I simply cannot fit all of it here. The custom menu system, proximity sensor for the EVF, a dedicated lock switch, custom function button, and many more. All of this adds to the functionality and user experience that is unmatched by any other camera.
Negatives:
So I've listed all the things I love about the RP. Here are some of the things I felt like would have made this camera better but at the same time not increase its cost.
- While the touch to drag focus is great, I still wish that Canon included a joystick or their newer touch sensitive joystick. I'm used to shooting DSLRs that have that joystick, and I'm sure many photographers would feel similarly, though this point is mostly of preference.
- The battery and SD card slot is in the same compartment, and the compartment is blocked on many mounting plates for tripods/stands. This is a minor annoyance and not a dealbreaker for me.
- While the dials are plentiful, the buttons were limiting. I like to review images right on screen to get an idea of my shots, but zooming in is not quite intuitive or easy as there are no buttons for zoom in/out (you have to press a button, then use a dial to zoom). I guess since it has a touch screen, you are expected to use that more for things like this.
In conclusion, the Canon EOS RP was designed to be an affordable full frame camera. You get an elegant, light build that delivers wonderful photos in all but the most challenging shooting conditions.
Autofocus speed is good though not the best compared to more expensive lenses which are obvious. Compared to any STM based This is super fast as its based on USM (Ultrasonic motor) which quickly focuses objects, especially when objects are far away.
Image stabilization is very good.. Especially while you are standing when its windy ...
Worth the money you oput in here for an all combination lens
I bought "White Box (New)" and "Sold by Amazon EU S.a.r.L" for about £150 less than normal retail. For anyone worried about "White Box" the lens came in original packaging and registered with no problems on Canon UK's website. I also added Amazon 3-year extended warranty and 3-year accidental damage when I bought it.
I already own 3 Canon lenses that I use with my Rebel SL2: 18-55; 50mm 1.8 and 50-250 and I think this is my new favorite! It works for portraits as well as landscape, the shutter speed is fast and the images are beautiful.
