so far this is a very good and reliable instument, took a lil figure in it out but is great, love the telephoto on it, having to download and print 168 pges of how to's off the internet is a pain but it is worth it thanks

I love this camera!!! Still working through the manual, but I have been able to take some great pictures to submit to the local newspaper with my job. Don't get to submit photos very often, but when I do, they will be good.

A professional photographer recommended this light weight, compact camera. It has lots of features to choose from - including manual settings. The range of the lens is amazing! The zoom is from 24-1200mm! Crazy! This makes a great alternative to your "big camera". I recently heard the Dalai Lama speak in Atlanta. DSLRs were not permitted unless you had a press pass. As a freelance photographer, I was not able to get a pass. I brought this camera instead and was able to get some great shots of His Holiness.

U gave this camera to my mother and she loves it. It easy to use and portable. Highly recommended for amateurs.

I bought this camera to replace my damaged OLYMPUS SP590UZ which was a pretty good camera but this is light years beyond the OLYMPUS. I didn't notice until it was too late to do anything about it but the tripod socket on the OLYMPUS was PLASTIC! & broke out in a relatively minor fall ( $130 to repair ) & still plastic! Without a tripod it was very difficult to get clean uz shots with that camera. When the SX50HS became available I had already done some research & decided on a Canon as a replacement. So far I've only used the AUTO setting & found the image stabilization & tracking systems so superior to what I had that I've used it more without the tripod than with. The only faults I've found are the diopter is a bit stiff & difficult to fine tune & the Canon battery drains faster than the Photive backup I bought for it. If you're considering this camera there is an adapter ( $8.00 ) you'll need to attach filters, hoods etc. My setup has one w/uv filter & standard hood which I expect will break off ( the adapter ) without damage to the camera & only the replacement cost of the adapter in the event of an accident. This is a fantatastic camera & with the quality of the shots I'm getting ( mostly birding )I can't justify the price of a DSLR. Also, the software suite that comes with it is so good & easy to use that most of the time I use it rather than the Corel Photo program I have. good shootingP.S. I bought this camera to use on a recent trip to Costa Rica. The last dslr that I have owned is the Nikon D90, but it was just too big and bulky to carry with me on vacation. I had the Panasonic FZ150 which I really loved, but there were times when I felt limited by the zoom so when the SX50 was announced, I seriously considered it and the FZ200. I had some concerns about the slower lens of the SX50 but in the end, the superior zoom capabilities won out and I bought the SX50. I wasn't sorry! We took over 1000 pictures during our trips and the camera performed beautifully. It was able to take pictures of monkeys and birds in the backlit and at times low light rainforest canopy. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. I love taking pictures of wildlife and this camera is great for that with its 50x optical zoom. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is the low resolution EVF and the very annoying feature that when you take a still photo during video this causes the video to black out and pause when the photo is taken. This is extremely annoying and caused me to ruin quite a few videos early on in our trip. I don't understand why Canon does this. I have the Sony RX100 which allows you to take 16 mp stills during video without disrupting the video. I buy it and when i finally learn how to use it, and how to take pictures properly, i enjoy it so much in my journeys, is really great all that you can do, see and immortalize with this awesome Camera.

Took some pictures during night time, my flash was on & the image came back with dust spots on it.Looking at the lens doesn't reveal any dust particles, seems like a defective piece to me.Also there are no controls for flash what so ever, I couldn't force the flash to remain turned on during the night time.It's all auto controlled, really frustrating. I wish I had known about this before.

All I can say is, UNREAL! I took a picture of the moon at full, at about 75x Zoom. The 50x Optical zoom is just amazing, and the digital up to about 2x (100x total) is very good. I can see the lines, and craters on the moon in amazing detail. The pictures are stunning, and the video is amazing for the price. My only wishes, are that it would have had the option for "AA" batteries instead. Also, 12.1 is a bit small for MP these days. I wish it was at least 16MP or 18MP. Still... my moon shot was taken on auto settings at 2:30am in the morning, using only camera - no tripod. What i got, was the most detailed picture I have taken. The features of this camera are almost as good as a DSLR, at less than half the price. I have no issues showing this camera off, and the amazing pictures it takes. I highly recommend this camera to anyone.

The pictures are acceptably sharp for a 12.1 megapixel camera and the color is excellent. There is an amazing range of features and controls useful to advanced photographers able and willing to venture beyond the green auto exposure button. My main complaint about the camera is disappointing 2.8" LCD, which is noticeably smaller and less handy than the 3" tiltable LCD on the Nikon Coolpix P510. There also are occasional struggles with the automatic focus. The Coolpix P510 is only 42x, but its 16.1 megapixels seem to produce sharper images. There can be moments with the Nikon when the automatic focus also is balky. Both cameras do acceptably well in low light. Anyhow, the more you use either of these cameras, the happier you are likely to be with them.

Use it nearly every day as we live on a lake and there is always something to photograph on the lake.

This is an upgrade from my other Canon. Super zoom and great pics in low light settings.Make sure you create an account with Canon Image Gateway to link your pics with WIFI to share with Flickr, Facebook, Youtube or any other service. One you link your camera to the Gateway, the rest is easy. Those steps could be tricky. Every else is pure Canon easiness.Would recommend.

The camera seems to work well, but if you have been using the Canon ImageBrowser 5 for storing photos, you should know that this camera is incompatible with it. Read the reviews of the ImageBrowser EX on Canon's site: [...]

For the price I can't be more pleased with the SX510 HS. Great photos, awesome zoom and all the setting you could ask for. Only issue I have had is the manual flash. Other PowerShots I've owned have had a auto pop up flash. Other than the flash issue I highly recommend the camera.

Having recently switched to "point and shoot" cameras from standard slr cameras, I am amazed at the clarity of this camera. The telephoto aspect is phenomenal as is the overall ease of handling. I have tried others brands of this type of camera. The Canon SX50 is in a class of it's own. I would (and have) highly recommend this camera.

Received this camera yesterday and have fallen head over heels in love. That being said, please know I am a point and shoot type of gal who lives on a lake with lots of wildlife hanging about. It's perfect. I played with it for several hours and have found some fun filters, e.g., a fisheye filter among others. For anyone looking for easy to carry and easy to shoot, this would be the one for you. Zoom capabilities are incredible, even in the digital mode. The one thing I learned in a photo course a long time ago is "read the manual." I'll be doing that over the next few weeks so I can take full advantage of everything this little camera has to offer... I may even get out of AUTO mode someday :)

Needing a long reach lens for my 50D I happened upon this SX50 for $400.Could this be real? You bet it is. While it is not a 50D it is a super value.I not only use it at 1200mm but through out the entire range from 28 to 1200mmand find acceptable results for the entire range.It is not a multiple frame camera that I would go to first since the viewfinderblanks out after the first frame is fired, but that is why we have the 50D.If you can get your picture with one frame, wait half a second then take anotherthen you are fine with this outfit. However in sports mode you can get a burstof up to 10 frames and still follow the action. I believe focus will be fixed on thefirst frame fired but it works pretty good. I have it for the 1200mm lens and it isawesome. Where else can you get 1200mm for only $400 and get a camera too!Sure contrast is not as good with my 50D but after all it is 1200mm,only weighs in at 20 ounces and while it wont fit in my pocket it is quite small.If you need a camera that has outstanding reach, is light weight, has Image Stabilitythen this is the one. I will use the SX50 along with my 50D and capture birds and animalsthat are out of reach with the 50D. On a long hike it will be nice to only carry the SX50and save 6 lbs by leaving the 50D in the trunk or at home. Canon got it right, of coursethey usually do!

Takes good pictures and the flash is stronger than most point and shoot cameras. The flash is over top of the lens eliminating red eye in most cases.

Got this camera for $318 on Thanksgiving. Best decision ever. I haven't had much time to use it but I did go for walk around my town a take pics. The pics are superb. I didn't mess with any settings and I got beautiful pics of wildlife. The zoom is wonderful. Even when zoomed in the pics are super clear. I am traveling to Europe and I wanted a good camera to take with me and I feel this is the perfect choice.

I really like my Canon SX50 which replaces an older Sony DSC-H5 7mp camera. There are many things the Canon doesn't do which I had hoped for, but all-in-all it's a great camera. While few of these bridge camera's can compete with DSLR's for image quality, the cost of a single lens for a DSLR can buy you a second camera. I will say that the SX50 is a great camera in this price range, but like any camera, it's up to you to learn how to use it within it's limitations. Also, You'll never know what this camera is capable of until you take it out of auto mode. Finally, the RAW images are better quality than the jpeg so you can step the quality up a notch by going RAW.What I like most about this camera is the zoom and the articulating screen, both of which I find indispensable for fun photography. While DSLR's are arguably better, there are many shots that a DSLR owner will pass up because they can't get close enough. As an example, You've all seen shots of a huge moon hanging over a boat/tree etc... Very impressive photo, in my mind! To take this kind of picture you need a boat/tree or anything else so far away that from where you are standing that it is smaller than the moon. You zoom in until the moon and subject fills your frame and snap the photo. This can be done with a DSLR, but many times requires a zoom lens that is too expensive for the average human being.The articulating screen is fantastic for those shots that require you to play twister to get. In addition, when it is very bright out you can reposition the screen for better contrast.

This has some nice features, but we still need to work with it a bit to come up with the perfect setting. Love the fact that we don't even have to connect to computer to get photos.

This camera is the perfect camera for birding.... 50x reach is amazing for getting ID shots of your birds. Been using this camera since March. It does have the typical Powershot issues with focus in low light, but the tradeoffs are worth it. I do question it's durability but for the price you can not have it all. I would buy it again for my use, which is a light mobile field camera for birding.

Great camera. No problems with battery running out or any difficulty with extended lenses..beautiful photo's. Only wish a book came with camera instead of computer disk as you have to keep going back to different things in order to learn how to do a new thing with the camera. The camera is well worth the money
